What is it?

HOdlcoin is just like Bitcoin Cash, but it pays interest on every balance. This is to recognize the importance of HODLers and properly reward HODLing. 1% per day interest (375% APR) is paid on regular balances, and up to 2% per day interest ((750% APR)) is paid on coins HODL'd for 1 year. No staking, mining, or counterparty is required. Interest is guaranteed by the blockchain.

Mining
Solo mining is still possible and is the recommended way of supporting the network. Mining reward is 50 HODL.

Mining direct from the wallet is easy to get started with and is reasonably efficient.
These flags can be used on the command line to attempt to enable more efficient mining - These can give 100% gains, but may cause an immediate crash on some processors.

Proof of Work

1GB AES Pattern Search POW. Pattern Search involves filling up RAM with pseudo-random data, and then conducting a search for the start location of an AES encrypted data pattern in that data. Pattern Search is an evolution of the ProtoShares Momentum PoW, first used in MemoryCoin and later modified for use in CryptoNight(Monero,Bytecoin), Ethash(Ethereum).  CPU/GPU friendly. The POW Algorithm is considered a technical detail and is subject to change to favor CPU and consumer grade hardware with the intention of keeping mining participatory and distributed.

1. The Standard Interest Rate
Interest is paid on regular balances (outputs), on every block, for a period of up to 30 days (561x30 blocks). The rate is approximately 375% APR or (75/2^22)%, compounded every block. Interest is paid on casual balances for up to 30 days.

2. Term Deposits
If you lock an amount of HODL as a term deposit, you get a bonus on the interest. The longer the deposit, the bigger bonus.

When a Term Deposit matures, it stops earning interest - you must move it to start earning interest again.

1. Go to the Term Deposit tab. It looks like a little bank.
2. Enter your own address, the amount of the term deposit, and the length you to deposit for.
3. Click HODL

A popup will appear telling you how much interest you can expect. Click OK if you want to continue. Another popup will ask your if you're sure, click OK again, and your term deposit instruction will be sent.

Remember, once you HODL, those funds are LOCKED until the maturation date. That's the price you pay for the term deposit bonus.

Hi FreeTrade,

First off, thanks for all the innovation you have brought to the crypto community. I have mined and profited from Memory coin and Protoshares, (did not get a chance to play with LottoShares.)

I have one question and a comment/suggestion (below).

Will this be a PoW or PoS (or hybrid)? you state that it will be merge mineable but earning interest on funds sounds like a PoS.

This will allow users to lock up funds for a specified amount of time, to earn a specified amount of interest. The interest rates provided may be very high, especially in the early stages of the coin.

This will encourage and reward HODLERS. It will also constrain supply - interest earning coins cannot be moved.

Interest will be entirely handled in the blockchain and protocol. There won't be any counterparty.

I am not trying to name drop, but check out RateCoin (XRA) project (link in my signature), it also does what you have described, you can lock selected inputs in order to receive interest based on duration of locked block.

With that said, I will follow this project and assist where I can be of help.

It will be PoW. I think PoS and Merged-Mining are two approaches to chain security. I'm choosing MM because I think it's easier to market to Bitcoiners. 'Bitcoin + Term Deposits' is easier to understand than 'Bitcoin + PoS + Term Deposits'.

Thanks for the link. I had been searching for similar projects, and someone had mentioned XRA, but I hadn't found the link yet. I guess there are few differences -
1. PoS vs PoW(MM)
2. Likely Higher/Variable interest rates for HODLCoin

Can you tell me more about 'lock selected inputs in order to receive interest based on duration of locked block' . . . my reading of the ANN is that users received larger interest payments if the stakes coins haven't been moved recently . . but that they still available to be used if the staker changes his mind. Can you clarify if locked blocks are different and how that works?
