201  Other / Serious discussion / Accidentally clicked an ad when going to a faucet site on: November 03, 2018, 11:42:42 PM
I was on moon btc and it told me it’d had been 26000 hours since I last visited the site and all was well.

The issue was I accidentally clicked a link on my iPad that took me here: http://genxbitco dot eu/

I’m not entirely sure of the site is harmless or not and what I should do if it isn’t? Do iPads have antivirus?
202  Other / Serious discussion / Another of my hdd mining topics on: October 31, 2018, 04:18:34 PM
I have an 8tb hard drive and a laptop I can dedicate to permenantlh mine for 6 months, is it worth doing it?

Or am I better off trying to sell my drive off for backups here so people each get a part and encrypt their data with their own private key to which stays with them.
203  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Outernet Bitcoin service? on: October 31, 2018, 10:49:35 AM
The outernet as a thing has been out for quite a while, I’m wondering whether it’s possible to make the same sort of thin for bitcoin.

All the outernet has is 6 satellites that broadcast a connection around the globe but it just seems to be a mainly one way connection (unless I’m wrong). Anyway, is it possible to do the same with bitcoin? These satellites have a bandwidth of 50GB per day if I remember correctly.

I think I made a thread on this a while back but a few months ago, jet cash made me look at sky coin so it is possible to do.
204  Other / Meta / Is there a thread here on the ten year anniversary of the white paper? on: October 30, 2018, 10:50:18 PM
If there isn’t I think we should make one for the occasion since the news at the top of the forum reads it’s the anniversary of the white papers’ release.

I was late reading it by about 2 years after being here, if you haven’t yet read it, I’d urge you to take a look into it to see the thoughts behind the first most stable cryptocurrency and the generation shift of a people who only two years prior had invented the smartphone (I still think mobiles came out far too late Grin).
205  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Eduroam blocks tor, vpns and bitcoin core! on: October 29, 2018, 10:28:03 PM
Warning: this is another eduroam ruins lives thread if you want to see something without misery I'd suggest going here

I need help.

I'm at university and I want to run a bitcoin/litecoin node here. The issue I have is that the [insert word here] service known as "eduroam" which no one likes is essentially governing over my internet connection.

People here are obviously doing things like watching porn and playing computer games and all I want to do is send some money, but I can't!

My error when trying to connect to Tor is "Establishing an encrypted directory connection failed" and I'm using an obfs4 bridge and have three listed on the list thing you have to give to tor.
My electrum wallet works though which seems a bit odd...

it is potentially the way that both grab their connections from the internet.
206  Economy / Services / Free coding python/c# on: October 29, 2018, 01:27:16 PM
I was thinking this morning that there must be people here who can’t code at all or are bad at it, so I’m wondering about offering free code in python or c# or as a stand-alone executable.

I have done c# for two years and python for 7 so am fairly competent in the languages.

If owing something for free I’m obviously not going to program anything that you would be able to sell on as is (I don’t think) but if you have a suggestion and it’s quite quick to do I might take a look at it and see if i can give it a go.

I’m suggesting things more like short algorithms like bubble sorts or quickly, sorts or even algorithms that do complex calculations in them.

I’d you suggest an algorithm that isn’t widely known or is complex (like something bitcoin related) I will probably require some pseudo code to actually be able to program it.
207  Other / Serious discussion / Sending "large" amounts of money between banks on: October 21, 2018, 03:42:49 PM
I need to send what I think my bank classes as a large amount of money by bank transfer in the UK. I want to know of the fastest way to do this if there is one (I don't have a chequebook - my mail slot is shared so it wouldn't be safe) and can't really take out the money from an account and put it straight into the other as it's quite a bit of walking).

Sending the money online yeilds an error of a monthly spend limit being surpassed.

Edit: I managed to solve the issue by finding a friend with a card reader but that seems like an arduous task, is there a better way?
208  Economy / Digital goods / Any TRUSTED member looking to sell Amazon UK vouchers? on: October 19, 2018, 06:10:09 PM
I found something on amazon I wanted and I want to top up my credit there, I'm looking for about a £100 voucher for an amount of bitcoin (make me an offer).

Trusted members only please (and by trusted I mean ones I've seen that have contributed to the discussions of the forum I would have seen and ones who have been here for a while, not necessarily some trust you have from the trust system but everything helps)...
209  Economy / Gambling discussion / Would a site with a slightly negative house edge still be profitible? on: October 17, 2018, 01:09:42 PM
I'm currently thinking that if someone made a dice site and had it to have a -1% house edge it could still be profitible.

When people gamble, they're either aggressive gamblers or gamblers for fun (a few botters but not so many). If there was a -1% house edge, this would attract people to your casino and they would usually get addicted to it or they'd not deposit more than they could lose. Things like the martingale strategy would still have a similar likelihood of failing too.

Am I confusing something here or is this correct?
210  Other / Meta / Lol on: October 10, 2018, 10:45:59 AM
I came across this recently and just laughed at it for a bit....
http://archive.is/JhteQ

I'm guessing someone likes the new way of getting past recaptcha, no one could sit there and do this could they? Although a bot would take a while to program...

Edit now he's quoting himself: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5047133.msg46717173#msg46717173
211  Other / Meta / Link expiration on: October 03, 2018, 09:21:16 PM
I'm not sure if it's just me thinking this but I was searchin for my old topics and found one that had a link to a site, it looks to be a legitimate site at the time but now has been bought by someone else and is potentially being used for malicious purposes (it wanted me to allow my firefox to disable noscript and then allow a program to install - surely that's going to be harmless Grin)...

Anyway, could we make it so that if links are posted after about a year or two that they expire unless they're from a highly visited site like blockchain.com/blockchain.info or other sites like that that get a lot of clicks.
This should also be helpful in reducing database sizes too. I reckon that there's a lot of blockchain.info links that are posted here that are going to go dead in a few years anyway so those could be de-linked too.
212  Other / Meta / Evolution of rank names on: October 03, 2018, 04:12:52 PM
Did satohsi decide the rank names or have they been done individually since then?
Also, has it always been Brand new, newbie, jr member, member, full member, sr member, hero member and legendary member or were there any changes along the way in order to reach this? (Reason I ask is that the 'full member' rank title to me always looks a bit out of place and trange in comparison to all of the other rank titles)?
213  Other / Meta / Can merits be awarded in threads that aren't for public view? on: September 25, 2018, 10:20:36 PM
I was wondering what would happen if a moderator gave another moderator merit in the staff board how would it look?

I'm not sure the subject would be displayed as someone like Hilariousandco coming up with a solution to "cookie vulnerability by use of iframes on other sites" (for example if that existed) clearly that would arise speculation and there would be people either moaning or trying to sus the vulnerability to make a few quick bucks...

I'm not sure if this has been addressed elsewhere but what actually would happen (I know deleted post has the "deleted post" sign on it)...

(Disclaimer: I do not know if iframes do cause an issue for other sites to gain access to cookies however I can see everything you all do on your computer screens and in your minds and will smite anyone who attempts to use such vulnerabilities for malicious intentions Grin you have been warned).
214  Economy / Speculation / I expected a price flop with the recent news. on: September 19, 2018, 09:04:51 AM
Due to this: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5032443.0 I was expecting a significant price drop. It doesn't matter that the vulnerability is a small one, it's the fact that it got missed by the core devs for so long and maybe smaller things could also get missed by them accidentally along the way that are more significant...

Anyone got any thoughs, was I being too pessamistic here? (by significant I mean 300-500$ the coin itself is quite stable)
215  Bitcoin / Electrum / Electrum gives me a seed and then won't accept it on: September 16, 2018, 09:26:39 PM
I have been using electrum and was trying to make a 14 of 15 multisig (I'm aware of the high fees, and am hoping it'll make me less likely to spend those bitcoins)...

Although, I go to put in a random file name (to make it go through the create wallet stages) and put in to create a multisig wallet > generate 14 require 15 > create new seed and write down my seed in my notebook. I then hit next and get taken to a screen, I put my seed in and the nexxt button doesn't highligh. I delete that seed that I inputted and go through each word to test with the predicted text but that similarly doesn't work (I'm on my third crossed out seed now, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated).

I am using electrum V3.2.3 and V2.2.2
216  Other / Serious discussion / Bitmain are selling 3 tonne boxes? on: September 16, 2018, 07:37:56 PM
reference link

They've come up with a new and original idea of an antbox (not really they're just copying bitfury)...

Since I'm not posting in the mining section as of now, I'll have to post this here.
I'm very cunfused as to how they seem to have worked out the weight before the price...

DISCLAIMER: miners are apparently sold separately...
217  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Best way to make multisig wallets on: September 16, 2018, 02:29:14 PM
I want to try to use electrum on my regular machine running a live OS. My issue is, I'm not sure if there's an edition of live windows that can be used (linux seems too dependent on its dependencies to be useful to me - too much reliance on running random scripts from the internet).

Is it safe to assume, once I've sent an amount of coins there and none of them leave and my seeds have been taken completely offline and just stored in a notebook somewhere that my coins are safe for any new coins - I'd use my phone but that seems to have a limit of 5 keys?
218  Other / Meta / Is the altcoin section the biggest (in the amount of storage capacity needed) on: September 15, 2018, 09:51:59 PM
I was wondering these two questions recently.

1. How big is this forum (data-wise) in total.
2. Is the altcoin section the biggest section in the forum also (I've just looked through about a hundred pages of airdrop/bounty campaigns and all those social media links look like they'd take up a lot of space) - and how big is that if it's possible to work out that information?

If there are live stats on this data then do tell me so I can delete this thread...
219  Other / Meta / Can someone delete these posts and ban this person/their accounts on: September 15, 2018, 02:26:43 PM
I had a thread for making bitfury miners, I'm not sure my question was fully addressed and I'm still waiting to find an answer.

This has happened though: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4976339.0

archive

Can someone ban these accounts before they post with another one and continue to derail the thread with their shitcoin.

On to a more pressing matter, I've spotted this coin before. It seems they're the new coin to get spammed. It's almost as if they're getting paid to spam their ref link (like a pay per click rather than a pay per sale)...

This project is awesome, also please try this link to get bonus:

I think it's a better way.

220  Other / Beginners & Help / Difficulty factors added to bruteforcing multisig private keys on: September 12, 2018, 02:46:29 PM
As I understand it, a multisig (let's say for example) a 15/15 multisig requires a signature from all 15 private keys of a controlling address.

Is it therefore much harder to bruteforce if quantum computers descend in the next few years? I'm thinking of printing out 15 seeds and storing those seeds on a flash drive and putting that flash drive in a secure location (with other crypto related things so I remember what it is)...

Am I right in thinking this or is there some sort of private key that can be calculated out of all the other private keys that exist which relates to a "regular" address' private key?
