101  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Best Engraving material for Seed words? on: April 22, 2015, 03:19:42 PM
I am planning on engraving my seed words on 12 unique plates and have them somewhat order encrypted, what material would be the best to do this on? Has anyone else engraved using an engraving pen? Brass or steel is more preferable? Any negatives come to mind from engraving seed words?

These aren't just questions but I am also posting this thread because I think it is a great idea for everyone to do, an engraving of seedwords sure seems to beat a paper copy somewhere.

I am looking to sell a Hex 4M which runs at 400gh/s and has frequency tuned to get around .8w/gh. I will part with it for 50$ and shipping. I don't have enough psu's around to run and it and it is just collecting dust.

Board is sold, I do have 4  cooler fans for sale though.
105  Other / Meta / Mod remove spam negative trust? on: March 30, 2015, 05:29:57 PM
I just was checking the trust and I noticed I had negative trust, this surprised me as I have NEVER done something worthy of negative trust and the reason was  quote in the fork debate. I then went on and noticed this user spams constantly negative trust on lots (and i mean LOTS)of users including highly respected ones just for conflicting opinions. Is there anyway to have a mod clean out abuse of the trust system or is this a bannable offense as we all know the trust system is highly used here.

107  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Carve a private key into a stone? on: March 20, 2015, 09:26:57 PM
I was thinking about long term wallets and how the steel wallets are neat and paper wallets are fine but what about a long term wallet to last for hundreds of years, this lead me to think of ruins and then it went to carved stone. Stone carvings and markings have are able to last an extremely long time as we have seen but has anyone thought about carving their private key into a stone and building it into your house or keeping it in a safe? No need to worry about fire and wearing down wouldn't be a significant issue unless it has a constant erosion variable. This may sound crazy but it just seems like the best long term storage that has proven the test of time through history.
108  Bitcoin / Mining support / Doing a fan mod ran into issues on: March 20, 2015, 02:20:33 PM
So I was doing a fan mod on a miner and I ran into a couple of issues, the fans connect into a 2 pin female, the replace fans I bought are 3 pin but not just that, they are also female. Has anyone happened to find any adapter or cables that will connect a female to female fan ? I haven't found any gender changers for these and thought I would see if anyone had any similar issues!
109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Pools (Altcoins) / Looking for Scrypt Multipool that converts to Litecoin on: March 06, 2015, 02:43:31 PM
Just like the Title says, I am currently using Ghash.io's multipool and Coinking as a backup but I have heard issues with Coinking and Ghash having too much power behind it I am looking for a decent alternative. Please let me know if you know a pool that fits this description.
110  Bitcoin / Mining support / Best Thermometer for miner equipment? on: March 06, 2015, 02:23:12 PM
So I am doing mods to some mining equipment and I was looking at purchasing one of those common Infrared thermometers but is there a better one I could use ? I am replacing fans for the most part so I just need to make sure chips aren't running too hot, if anyone has a good link please let me know!
111  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / S6 and S2 upgrade speculation (S2 Upgrade kit ANNOUNCED) on: March 05, 2015, 06:03:24 PM
So here is a quote:
S2 upgrade is coming, but until the hardwares are mass produced in the assembly and tested for specs for each item, we can't say what the spec is...

But it should be less than 0.4w/GH.  (ants on the engineers floor tells me it would be in 0.3x in range)

Official Confirmed Spec may be available at Berlin, Germany Conference or after the conference.*

PSU upgrade should not be needed.  Existing 1000W PSU will be more than sufficient.
(Including the under performing PSU that can't hash the 10th hashing PCB but works with 9 PCB)

If there is a clear need of spare parts, then it will help us determine what we need to prepare!

email to support @ bitmain . zendesk  . c o m if you are seriously considering to show support!!!

*This is why it is still marked as "Speculation"

** Aaaand.... Please remember, ANTS are always in-stock sale, not future unknown shipping date when it is announced for sale.  HASH NOW is more important than waiting for weeks/months for 0.2Xw/gh miners that may come out in a few months.  Grin

Grin Grin  And as always a little PR  Grin Grin

If you visit our new staff Jake Smith and Yoshi from Bitmain at the Inside Bitcoin Conference on March 5 & 6th in Berlin, Germany, you may get to see the actual Hashing PCB with chips on them!!  (Good German Beer Donation is always WELCOME!!)

Sample Hash PCB may show up in Amsterdam on the 7th at the Bitcoin Embassy as well if ants can cross the border  Tongue

Yes, you can take ant porn with your cellphone in Berlin or Amsterdam as long as you are willing to share with others!  Shocked
Well today is the conference and Bitmains site is down and has been down, I am expecting them to add it to their website and make a forum post in a couple of hours since its only 2 AM Beijing time where their employees are at.
112  Bitcoin / Mining support / Antminer S4 Quieter fans? on: March 05, 2015, 03:15:08 PM
I am looking for quieter fans for the S4, I found a thread on S5 fans but I am not sure if the S4 and the S5 use the same size fans, if they do that sounds great but if not I am looking for fans that will fit the S4 and take it down a lot of noise, I will be underclocking it a bit so a drop in cooling shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Would these be too weak? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835553002

Okay so I have found the size of the current fans and they are 120mm 30mm thick *not that thickness should matter too much* but I don't know how much CFM I will need,

118  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin backed National currency, the digital standard on: February 20, 2015, 01:30:03 PM
Alright so as many know there are tons of post about either micronations having Bitcoin as their national currency or post about how Greece should make Bitcoin their national currency, but as most of us know at this stage that just isn't possible or easy. This got me thinking about Bitcoin in whole and how it is currently but many are afraid of it's volatility but also how it is very comparable to Gold. Countries aren't willing to use gold as their national currency as it would be too much of a pain for them to keep control over but they're willing to back their currency by it. So this led me to the thought of a currency backed by Bitcoin and how this wouldn't be such an extreme issue and essentially be no risk to the government who does it anyway.

So lets go into a hypothetical world, Greece leaves the Euro and makes it's own currency the drachma and they decide they need more than just a Fiat at this point since Greece has been in such turmoil and there may not be much faith in it. Greece certainly can't buy a ton of gold to back their drachma but they could back their Drachma with Bitcoin. They wouldn't need to build a fortess like Fort Knox to securely store gold they would have to invest a small amount into Bitcoin security. They could have government exchanges or deals with banks that will allow you to bring your paper notes and have the Bitcoin sent to your bank whenever you want without fee's, they could use long lasting polymer notes and put them back into recirculation when they replenish the Bitcoin or instantly with the exchange rate lowered.

The best part is that Greece has nothing to lose from this system as they would be backing their Drachma with nothing but the faith of Greece if not, even if Bitcoin somehow failed it can be changed to a standard fiat without any issue.

As for security the private keys could be split with parts held at the UN and Greece while embedded on steel plates and using a physical encryption (or BIP32) Security could be discussed later.

So how would that sound, a countries dollar backed by Bitcoin, do you think this would work in the real constantly changing world?

The government has nothing to lose and the nations citizen has an option to exchange their currency to a decentralized worldwide storage of value. Security would be easier and auditing would be a snap compared to gold and the transferring wouldn't take months.

120  Other / Meta / Ban Memes in Bitcoin General (Poll) on: February 04, 2015, 02:39:16 PM
The Bitcoin General board seems to be getting overloaded by memes especially in serious topics regarding the future of the coin, do you think memes should be allowed in the bitcoin general or deleted by mods?
