81  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Any massive mines focusing their heat? on: July 16, 2015, 08:53:15 PM
We see the massive mines out there and know there is a ton of energy being output as heat but are any of them concentrating that heat to change it back to another form? We have megawatt farms and with the correct airflow we could push this heat into a single output, this output could be used to change water into steam and turn a turbine on the way out making them a bit of electric back to the grid and lowering their operating cost. Has anyone started doing this or tried? This seems like our current goal is to take energy (electric) and turn it to heat and dissipate it to the outside instead of heat to steam to back to electric via turbine. I am not 100% sure on how we could do this in a warehouse setting but I definitely am thinking of a flap and tea kettle design where pressure builds and releases to force a turbine to spin.
82  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / 750 ti Hashrate chart? on: July 15, 2015, 10:19:41 PM
I have used the search function but I can't find a chart for the hashrate of a 750ti per algorithm or the current best algorithm to mine, if you happen to know one please link it! Thanks! Wink
83  Economy / Computer hardware / WTB 750ti on: June 26, 2015, 08:44:46 PM
Looks for some prices on used 750 ti's that I could possibly buy. Thinking of making a little side rig.
84  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Motherboard for 4 750ti? on: June 25, 2015, 03:33:26 PM
I am looking into possibly making a 4 750ti rig (that would be in a case, no risers) and need a motherboard that fits standard atx size. I was looking at this http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188159 but I noticed it doesn't have molex to the motherboard like the H81 pro btc http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H81%20Pro%20BTC/
Now won't 4 cards being sucking too much power from the standard plug attached to the motherboard possibly leading to a melting?

Is there a 4 pci x16 motherboard that has sli power adapters but will fit in a case?
85  Bitcoin / Pools / Best alternative to F2pool with PPS payouts? on: June 18, 2015, 02:44:50 PM
So I have an S3 I run just a bit as a side thing and since it isn't on a lot I like to keep it on PPS not PPLNS, I am currently using F2pool but they have way too much hashrate and I need to move it. I was going to put it on btcguild but they're shutting down, what is the next best pps pool out there? I just want to get away from the massive hashrate even if I have just a couple of hundred gigahash.
86  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / New R9 cards and possibilities for GPU mining on: June 16, 2015, 05:57:38 PM
Today AMD announced their new line of cards which includes the r9 fury x, fury, nano but when it comes to gpu mining the nano caught my eye. It is 2x as powerful as the r9 290x per watt and only 6 inches, the card won't probably be a full 2x as powerful as a 290x but somewhere around 1.3-1.5 with less wattage and heat. The price for the fury air is 550$ so we are looking below that for the nano, I would assume around 450$ but will go down in price just like the 290x did. Do you think due to size and wattage this could be the new king of gpu mining, especially when the price dips a bit?

87  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Any Hard drive mining based coins runnable through Raspberry pi? on: June 15, 2015, 07:41:24 PM
So I have a few extra hard drives with external power and usb hard drive looking to put them to work, it looks like they won't make very much but it would be a neat thing to do, the only issue I see is keeping a standard pc on to keep them working.

I guess if for some reason no one makes them one of these pc's may work.

88  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / I have an extra pi sitting around, whats the best use to generate coins? on: June 15, 2015, 04:06:21 PM
So I have an extra pi sitting, I know i could stake coins pos coins but I was looking for some input on which ones. I also have a powered Hard drive to usb adapter for two hard drives and I am able to hook them up to the pi and burst mine or whatever with them if it is possible. Please let me know what the best use would be for this little pc !
89  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A lot of users dislike altcoins but are pro sidechains, why? on: June 09, 2015, 05:50:34 PM
I don't really understand what's going on here, by the way I have read it sidechains seem to be like altcoins with their own sets of rules and acceptance but cuts out the exchange site. What am I missing? We are just going to make a lot of altcoins and have the ability to change your bitcoins into them and while the bitcoin doesn't actually go anywhere you are locking them until you or someone else has enough of the sidechain coin to get them.

So essentially instead of making the blocksize larger people want to use sidechains which are altcoins without a third party exchange. I don't see the point, if you want to use a sidechain to keep smaller transactions just buy litecoin, if you want an instant transaction sidechain coin just use Dash, if you want anonymous sidechain just monero.

Won't sidechain coins have their owns prices as well? Wouldn't we need to start worrying about the price of sidechain X or Y compared to btc?

If I am misunderstanding it please fill me in.

Also for use we expect the coffee shop or other local stores to support sidechains instead of increase the block size? It seems far more logical for the blocksize to change then request all of the stores to change, also how are we going to all decide on which sidechain is the microchain and which chain is good for different purchases?
90  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Any Scrypt Asics still profitable? on: June 01, 2015, 02:02:47 PM
Production on scrypt asics has been quiet if there has been any new produced at all, is anyone actually profiting on Asic miners currently or are they just speculating on the negative electric cost?
91  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / PSU for 2 R9 290x to not blue screen on sgminer? on: May 28, 2015, 05:56:28 PM
So I have 2 R9 290x in my main rig, I use it for many things and I HAD a 750w psu powering both, it would bluescreen when attempting to mine neoscrypt with Sgminer. So I decided to change it with an 850w psu I had and I am having the same damn issue, so what is the wattage to mine 2 r9 290x? I have some higher watt psu around I could switch it with, I just am not sure what I need to run it.
92  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Bent some motherboard pins, need ideas on: May 20, 2015, 02:30:51 PM
Any ideas on how to fix some motherboard pins, I bent a couple when reinserting a cpu yesterday and want to see if I can salvage the board.
93  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Favorite Motherboard for mining! on: May 14, 2015, 02:20:09 PM
So I was wondering what everyones favorite motherboard for mining is.

I have been using the Asrock H81 Probtc but 1 died and when replacing it the next was doa, these seem to be pretty lackluster on quality so I wanted to see what everyone's favorites are.
94  Economy / Economics / Could a Government back their dollar by Bitcoin Successfully? on: May 12, 2015, 05:26:19 PM
Would it be actually possible for a Government to succeed in backing their dollar to Bitcoin like nations used to do with Gold or Silver? Could a nation that actually had it where you could go to any bank and trade your dollars to bitcoin without trading fee work? This seems like a good middle point for many nations as 1 they are able to see where the Bitcoin in their nation is spent and 2 able to back their dollar by a non territorial value.

Do you think this could actually work or if we will see it ?
95  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Best site for profit rates? on: May 11, 2015, 09:37:51 PM
I have been using Whattomine but was wondering of some other coins out there that may give a bit more information or are better for figuring what coin to currently mine. If you happen to know a site please post.
96  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / How to get the 400kh/s stated on What to mine for my 7970 (280x) on: May 10, 2015, 02:52:22 PM
So I have tried to mine neoscrypt and whattomine says I should hash around 400kh/s for my card, what bins or kernels does one need to make this happen or is it an error on whattomines site?
97  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Encompass 5.0 on: May 06, 2015, 04:14:03 PM
I was using encompass to try out the multiple currency feature and noticed it doesn't match my trezors balance correctly by a whole bitcoin and the addresses on the receiving end was a lot. Does anyone know how encompass works with Trezor? Is it an actually protection for all of the address or does it just use it as a password system and add its own addresses and wallet data.

TL;DR: Issue with Encompass and I don't trust it.

I had to reinstall windows and I decided to retry encompass, it seemed to work well and my dash was there so it definitely does truly integrate with trezor.
98  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Edible Password Pill FDA approved on: May 04, 2015, 04:18:49 AM
I saw an article on reddit today about a pill that motorola has developed that has been FDA approved already.

"A quick soak in your gastric juices turns the pioneering pill on, triggering it to transmit an 18-bit, EKG-like signal from your insides. The ingestible micro computerís (thankfully silent) signal would then automagically unlock your smartphone and other gadgets. Yes, youíll actively be your very own password beacon for as long as the pill is still inside of you."

This seems like it could be useful for hardware wallets for large face to face transfers or a cold storage wallet.
99  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Stirling engines to help keep mining rooms cool? on: April 27, 2015, 03:34:59 PM
I was looking into some stuff today and ran into a sterling engine, it is a simple engine that runs off heat and will run off the heat of your hand. This had me think, could we use lots of these simple engines to move fans and keep mining rooms a bit cooler or even for massive farms possible generate a bit of electric back?

Here is a video of one: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wGRmcvxB_dk
100  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Best Engraving material for Seed words? on: April 22, 2015, 03:19:42 PM
I am planning on engraving my seed words on 12 unique plates and have them somewhat order encrypted, what material would be the best to do this on? Has anyone else engraved using an engraving pen? Brass or steel is more preferable? Any negatives come to mind from engraving seed words?

These aren't just questions but I am also posting this thread because I think it is a great idea for everyone to do, an engraving of seedwords sure seems to beat a paper copy somewhere.
