141  Other / Meta / New trust feature? on: May 21, 2013, 11:18:04 AM
Just discovered this trust feature on user's posts. Looks like a more sane version of OTC where users have to specify who they want to listen for feedback, cutting down on trolls / sockpuppets.
142  Economy / Marketplace / [Interest Check] Free Faucet Script on: May 19, 2013, 03:37:38 AM
Are there much interest for a free faucet script? With the new dust limit, free mBTC would have to be tallied up per address and sent (in batches) when it crosses a threshold.

The script would be free, with source available, but not open source.
143  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / You WILL lose all your BTCs in Ripple. on: May 19, 2013, 12:51:29 AM
With Bitcoin, 1 BTC is 1 BTC. They're accepted in every BTC accepting site.

With USD, 1 USD is 1 USD. They're accepted in every USD accepting site.

With Ripple, 1 BTC-Bitstamp is 1 BTC-Bitstamp. You lose them when Bitstamp [gets hacked | by owners | raided by DHS].

You will lose your BTC-Bitstamp, because no site lasts forever. Eventually, it will get shut down, hacked, etc.

It looks like he built up more posts this time on his sockpuppets (all registered 14 or 15th), and also locked the topic.

Please, add a giant red warning.

147  Economy / Service Announcements / WebMoney, a Russian payment network with over 11 mil users now accepts Bitcoin on: May 16, 2013, 11:43:56 AM
http://blog.wmtransfer.com/en/blog/wmx-the-new-type-of-title-units

Quote
The new type of title units named WMX has come into service at WebMoney Transfer system.

WMX is a unit of measurement delegated by WebMoney Transfer users and stored in the Guarantor`s (INDX Transactions LTD) storage for property rights to publish entries in the distributed transactional database of the bitcoin.org peer-to-peer network.

You can perform operations with X-purses using ether WM Keeper Classic ver. 3.9.9.1 or WM Keeper Light. WMX funding and withdrawal are available at wmx.webmoney.ru service.

Please read the rules of WMX funding/withdrawal and the Agreement on Property Rights Keeping.

After depositing bitcoins to be stored in the Guarantor`s storage, the WebMoney Transfer user can exchange them into WMZ, WME or to other title units at wmeng.exchanger.ru and make a purchase at any of tens of thousands online-shops connected to the System.

You can now purchase BTC with a credit card, and various other payment methods (deposit with those methods first, then buy WMX, withdraw them). It's pretty huge.
148  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / A 1 BTC giveaway is going on in this thread (Ripple required) on: May 16, 2013, 08:37:38 AM

149  Other / Beginners & Help / 1+ free Ripple BTC giveaway - ended! See OP! (Over 455 BTC gaveaway) on: May 16, 2013, 08:36:31 AM
This social experiment has ended - here was the goals:

1) teach people that Ripple BTCs are not real BTCs
2) teach people that your BTC.* can be substituted for anything you trust, automatically

There was also mass invasion of ripple.com/forum posters. It's not too hard to figure out who they are. Keep this in mind:

1) I have not profited at all from this.
2) Anyone who lost BTC.* had their BTCs exchanged by other people.
3) Anyone who I sent a BTC to could have redeemed someone else's Bitstamp or whatever IOU.

Please read http://ripplescam.org/ to learn more!
150  Economy / Scam Accusations / SCAMMER: BTC-escrow "bank" - owes me 20 BTC of promised pentesting funds on: May 16, 2013, 05:50:26 AM
I HACKED A BANK!!!1111

Learn what XSS is before you go launch your "BTC-escrow Bank"

no you hacked a MySQL databse. get it right.

Go try actually hack the bank by playing with the demo account my friend.

http://btc-escrow.co/login

User - demo
pass - demo

if you can do some damage, then ill pay you 20bitcoins straight off.

20 BTC like you promised to 1GLadosEkeAsLReqS3yQ51E1R3wVtbJCDF please - everyone can see if you sent the coins or not.

The bank owner refuses to pay, as he thinks it is not hacking that I got into his admin panel, just cause he hadn't hooked a MySQL database to it so I couldn't do any damage (but there was no damage you could do).
151  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / The DHS Can Seize All Your Ripple Balances With One Court Order on: May 15, 2013, 12:07:16 PM
Seen the news earlier about Mt Gox and Dwolla?

It takes one court order from the DHS to seize all your Ripple balances - because Ripple is centralized, and it's closed source. Joel isn't going to go to prison for 10 years just so you can have your XRPs and imaginary BTCs.

If you haven't, read RippleScam.org - and listen to it now until when the crackdown on cryptocurrencies happen.
152  Economy / Service Discussion / PSA: 'Bitcoins' in Ripple are not Bitcoins. They are not real, can be seized. on: May 15, 2013, 12:03:07 PM

Your balances on Ripple are not real. They don't exist, they never existed in the first place and will never exist. Some people honor their printed Ripple balances, but for how long?

It doesn't have to be malicious by the gateway.

What if the gateway loses all the bitcoins through a natural disaster and a poor back up strategy?

What if the Department of Homeland Security seizes the gateway's stored bitcoins, like what happened earlier?

The answer is.. nothing changes. You never owned anything of existence in the first place.

"We can win a major battle in the arms race and gain a new territory of freedom for several years. Governments are good at cutting off the heads of a centrally controlled networks like Napster, but pure P2P networks like Gnutella and Tor seem to be holding their own." - Satoshi Nakamoto

Napster was a centralized network controlled by one company. It was closed source. You had to trust files that they were legit.

Ripple is a centralized network controlled by one company. It is closed source. You have to trust gateways that they actually pays out.

Bitcoin is an decentralized network, controlled by every peer (that's you) who run Bitcoin and enforces the network rules. It's open source, and you don't have to trust anyone. A bitcoin, is a bitcoin that can't be seized without physical or malware intrusion - because it's enforced by every peer.

History repeats itself. Don't blindly follow Satoshi, but as someone who has created Bitcoin, you have to give their word a moment of thought.
153  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Apparent OpenCoin Employee Fails To Comprehend Basic Concepts Of Bitcoin on: May 13, 2013, 05:35:24 AM
I'm using the term apparent because despite using the terms 'we' referring to opencoin inc multiple times, I (certainly) hope he's not actually hired by opencoin inc. Such as:

Yes, Bitcoin is premined, by Satoshi, despite the genesis block including a news string that proves the coin was not premined.

MtGox premined bitcoins because of the gox hack that bought down bitcoin's price on that exchange to $0.01 (wut)

"you -have- to construct payment networks around debt" despite the fact that Bitcoin isn't based on debt.

"Bitcoin (and other altcoin clones) don't rely on debt transfers to facilitate transactions" Oh yeah, so you have to construct payment networks around debt. Sounds legit.

"if Ripple is compromised by bad UNL hygiene we can abandon the network, and the underlying currency we have will still be in our possession" Correct.

"Whereas if Bitcoin is compromised due to a 51% attack your Bitcoins are now completely worthless." You still have your bitcoins under your 51% attack, 51% attacks just makes future transactions reorderable.

I'm not even going to approve the comment because of how retarded it is.

155  Economy / Service Discussion / Why Ripple™ is against everything Bitcoin on: May 11, 2013, 04:57:38 AM
Ripple™ is a trademark of OpenCoin Inc, a private for-profit company. I am breaking their Terms of Service by using the trademark Ripple without permission. Sue me.

Satoshi Nakamoto:
Quote
The root problem with conventional currency is all the trust thats required to make it
work. The central bank must be trusted not to debase the currency, but the history of
fiat currencies is full of breaches of that trust. Banks must be trusted to hold our
money and transfer it electronically, but they lend it out in waves of credit bubbles
with barely a fraction in reserve. We have to trust them with our privacy, trust them
not to let identity thieves drain our accounts. Their massive overhead costs make
micropayments impossible.

With Bitcoin, you hold your own money. You control it.

With Ripple, you don't hold money. You hold debt, IOUs. You hold debt issued by a "gateway", a central authority.

As it is debt, they can print as much as they want, when they want. (Aka debasing).

>> See here, I printed myself 1 trillion bitcoins on ripple.

With Bitcoin, miners are required to use their computational power to earn new Bitcoins and transaction fees.

With Ripple, OpenCoin Inc issued themselves 100 billion ripples. They promised to only keep half (50%) for themselves.

With Bitcoin, nobody can spend your money without your private keys.

With Ripple, as the server source code has not being released and it is still proprietary, OpenCoin Inc can change the rules and spend your money.

Bitcoin is v2.0 of money - where you control it in a democratic process via mining. Core network rules are embedded in open source code.

Ripple is v1.1 of money - building on top of existing central banks, and fiat money. Their current marketing efforts are set to overtake and destroy BTC, with their centralized system.

And it is a question of when - no site lasts forever.
