281  Economy / Goods / Is http://physicalbitcoins.openbtcshop.com/ Legit or a Scam? on: May 12, 2013, 01:08:31 AM
Has anyone bought bitcoins from this site (and actually received them)?: http://physicalbitcoins.openbtcshop.com/

Prices seem too low to be true. I would love to be proven wrong though. If you can attest to placing an order and receiving it from this site, please post a reply!

282  Economy / Goods / COOL Rare Coins [In Your Price Range!] on: May 11, 2013, 02:17:44 AM
So, I have always wished that there were more people into rare coins who are also into bitcoins. But, its all Bullion. You might see the occasional Morgan Dollar on BitMit (careful! Morgans are the most faked coin!). But really, there aren't any rare, numismatic coins available for sale for bitcoins. I created the site below to try to change that. If you're into rare coins at all, or you just think they're cool, join the site! Rare, numismatic coins are not just something you collect for fun-they're an investment. The metals marked is volatile-especially lately. Numismatic coins hold their value, and only increase as time goes on. They are not subject to falling bullion prices, because you aren't selling them for the precious metal content they might have-you're selling them to a collector. One thing I have learned is that there is ALWAYS someone looking to buy any rare coin you might have.

283  Economy / Goods / WANTED: Your spent Casascius Coins! on: May 11, 2013, 01:41:34 AM
Hi,
I am looking for any Casascius coins that have been spent. The back does not even have to be clean. I'm interested in any Series/Denomination. I have silver and many other things to trade (bottle of Cuban Rum posted for close to $100 on here, expensive rare coins, etc). An offer I think  is fair is that for 1BTC or 5 BTC Used Coins (I don't care the year/series) I will give you $1 Face Value of 90% Silver US Coins. I'll even (to the best of my ability) allow you to select whether you want dimes, quarters, or half dollars. If you want to propose an offer, by all means please PM me. I just like using old Casascius coins to hold my bitcoins (I put my own hologram on back). I store basically all of my coins offline (a little paranoid), and this is the coolest way.

Remember-if you have any spent coins that you're even mildy interested in selling/trading, please PM me. I have a feeling we can work something out.
284  Economy / Scam Accusations / Damien Edington of Canada=SCAMMER on: May 10, 2013, 09:57:28 AM
Hi everyone,
I am into collecting coins, and have always wished to see more numismatic (collectible/rare-not bullion) coins available for sale in bitcoins. So, the other day I registered the domain name "bitcoinnumismatists.com" (for only 50 cents at www.networksolutions.com/Domains - take advantage of that deal before it expires!). I used a basic site site builder to create an interactive forum where users could post classified type ads ("wanted" and "for sale") of rare coins available for bitcoins.
I was happy to see that within a few days I already had a couple posts (I have advertised on this forum and only this forum). One was a "wanted" listing for pre-1933 US gold-no sketchiness with this one.
The next was a "for sale" listing for an 1889 Carson City Morgan Dollar graded AU 55 by PCGS. That coin is worth, conservatively, over $6,000 (http://www.ngccoin.com/poplookup/NumismediaPrice-Trends.aspx?c=17190&g=50).

Now, that was out of my price range so I asked the guy if he had any other coins. My thinking is if you have a coin such as this, you probably are a pretty avid collector. He said that he did not. Red-flag #1

I kept looking at the picture he posted (see ones below), and something just looked wrong. I took a couple of my coins in PCGS holders to compare. There was DEFINITELY something wrong. What pops out most, and what you will probably have the easiest time noticing is the spacing between letters/numbers/words. On the fake one, characters and words are spaced noticeably further apart than on a real one. Also, the slab is just different, and the coin contained in the holder looks like it is of poor quality and is definitely not an AU 50 coin. The scary thing is though, you REALLY have to be familiar with coins, etc in order to notice the imperfections. Just on one note, if you see a graded  coin you want to buy, I would be happy to verify its authenticity for you (as long as pictures are in good clarity).

Now, please let me explain how this guy is such an idiot:
This thing will never sell, period (unless its to another STUPID scammer). He picked a fake $6,000+ coin to buy. Don't you think people at that level of collecting (not EVEN that level) can spot this fake from a mile away? And its not like you can sell it at a discounted price...grades standardize prices for coins. If his is even barely lower in price than a REAL 1889 Carson City Morgan, people MIGHT get suspicious Wink

I found this gem, too: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/PCGS-AU50-1889-CC-Morgan-coin/666985659.html

Looks a little familiar I bet, huh?

Finally, please read our discourse on the forum, it will entertain you for 30 seconds

Sorry if that is in bad resolution.
Bottomline: Don't deal with this guy EVER and be careful about buying coins (ESPECIALLY Morgans). And finally, its kind of scary they have the ability to make these.
285  Economy / Goods / BUYERS BEWARE! on: May 09, 2013, 09:38:25 PM
Recently, I realized the extent some scammers go to make some quick, dirty money. It shocked me.
The story is, I collect coins and have since I was a kid. I was always disappointed with the lack of numismatic items being available for sale in bitcoins, it was always bullion instead. So, I made a website:

http://www.bitcoinnumismatics.com/ and here is a link to the specific thread I'm talking about:

http://www.bitcoinnumismatists.com/forum.html#/20130503/pcgs-1889-cc-silver-morgan-dollar-au50-2590749/

One guy posted a listing on there for a graded coin ("Graded" means it was given a ranking based on its condition. There are two prestigious grading companies-NGC and PCGS). It was an AU 50, PCGS graded 1889 Carson City Morgan Dollar. This coin is referred to as "The Monster Silver Dollar". I was impressed the guy had it, and I asked what else he had in his collection (if you own a $7,000 coin you're probably a collector and own some more). He said he had no other coins. I found that rather suspicious. I looked closer at the picture he posted...I have several PCGS graded coins, and something about his didn't look right. I got one of my PCGS slabs and compared it to his picture. The difference was clear as day. The most obvious sign that it was a fake is the spacing between characters and words. On a real PCGS slab, the letters/numbers are very close together. On his fake one, they are further apart. Do an image search and you will see what I mean.

Of course I know, and most people probably do too, that China is flooding the market with all kinds of fake silver and gold bullion, and even some coins. I had HEARD that there was a such thing as fake graded coins, but never seen one-even online. But, after determining his was a fake, I found this listing on this website: http://www.aliexpress.com/item/PCGS-AU50-1889-CC-Morgan-coin/666985659.html
That is the exact thing he bought. $150 may seem like a lot, but when the real thing is worth $7,000, it isn't.

I suppose this is just another warning to watch out for scammers. They don't all work in the same way. But they are ALWAYS after the same thing-your money.
286  Economy / Trading Discussion / RE-EDIT**EDIT*: How to SAFELY sell Bitcoins on eBay on: May 09, 2013, 09:22:27 PM
**There is always a risk selling digital goods. PayPal was initially the culprit that made it such that I could not sell bitcoins on eBay. That was after I had done A LOT of transactions involving bitcoins. I would bet that if you do one or two transactions selling bitcoins and using PayPal as your accepted Payment method, you'll be ok. But once you start doing more volume (like I was), you appear on PayPal's radar. I honestly think they target volume-sellers to sort of make a statement. Anyway, the important thing to realize is that even though it certainly seems this way, eBay DOES NOT equal PayPal. eBay owns PayPal, pushes it as accepted method of payment, and thus 95% of sellers use it to accept payment. However, PayPal IS NOT the only accepted form of payment by eBay. You can use your credit card merchant account (if you have one), Skrill (owned by PayPal, I believe), ProPay, one more I want to say, and "payment upon [local] pickup". So, so long as PayPal is not your accepted form of payment, my method of selling bitcoins will generally work. All it is really is a system to make sure that someone cannot come back and say they never received the item you sold and sent to them. Scammers are clever though, and constantly coming up with methods to take your money. So, just use common sense and awareness to make sure that you aren't taken by a scammer.**

*This is a safe method if you only use it once or twice. After more than 20 transactions, PayPal has restricted my account, saying that their services cannot be used for currency exchange, check cashing, bitcoins and EVEN Bitcoin COLLECTIBLES (like a redeemed Casascius coin). I am fighting this because, for one thing, the restriction on collectibles is ABSOLUTELY ridiculous. Also, they say they do not allow their services to be used as currency exchanges. Well, all US currency ever produced is STILL legal tender (as is the case with other countries' currency, too). You know how many listings there are for say, Silver Eagles? With a LEGAL TENDER amount of $1? I could buy that with Euros if I wanted to. If thats not a currency exchange, what is it?*

I wanted to write up this guide, but wasn't sure where to put it. I decided here since it offers instruction, and I know not just newbie members check this board.

Anyways, I want to share with you a completely safe way to sell bitcoins on eBay. eBay and PayPal are covered in an aura of taboo in the bitcoin world. That's because-obviously-scammers use those methods to steal from you. And, both PayPal and eBay like the customer, so if you sell bitcoins for PayPal, you get back a nice fat chargeback.
The problem with selling bitcoins on eBay or for PayPal, by strictly sending them electronically is that there is no physical aspect involved. THAT is why PayPal sides with the buyer-they aren't used to selling digital goods, just tangible things. If you sell Bitcoins for PayPal, on eBay or elsewhere, you thus have to have something tangible involved-and if it has tracking, its virtually impossible to get a chargeback.
I have sold a lot of bitcoins on eBay. This is the way I do it: I simply print out a bitcoin bill (go to bitaddress.org, hit "bulk wallet" and under "generate", put the number of keypairs you would like made. 1 bitcoin bill=1 keypair. Then, go to printcoins.com, hit "print your own" and fill in the initial fields with whatever you want-they're just for fun-I put "Bank of Johnniewalker". In the big dialog box, copy and paste the entire keypair from bitaddress.org. Pick a design, then hit "Generate PDF of bills". If you have thicker paper, customers would be more impressed, but if not don't worry, just print the bill.)
NOW you have something tangible. If you sell through eBay, you can mail w/tracking for $1.69.
You tell the customer that once the bill is made, you destroy all data pertaining to it (and you do-don't be a scammer). Thus, once they receive the bitcoin bill (still it has 0 balance) they need to send you a message with the public address of the bill. Once they give it to you, send the funds to the address, go to blockchain.info, enter the public address, and take a screenshot for confirmation of funds sent.

.....aaaaaaand you're done!
287  Economy / Services / Bounty Hunter on: May 09, 2013, 04:57:26 AM
I would like to offer my services. Call me a bounty hunter. I live in Southern CA (the most populated part of the country's most populated state). If you were scammed by someone and know where they reside (at least broadly), I will pursue them within 100 miles of where I live. I'm never one to "jump the gun". I'll do some recon work first. As far as approaching the subject, of course I will not do so with any sort of violent weapon/threat. I will, though, approach them at a moment they can't possibly make a run for it (at their place of work, with family, etc). I am 100% confident I can get them to pay. If what it takes is regular visits, that's what I'll do. But I don't think it will-I'll corner them at an extremely vulnerable moment, they'll have to pay up (I'll even let them use my computer  If they don't have the funds (not "I don't have the funds"-of they actually don't  I won't leave until a payment plan is worked out. And like I said, if it requires check-ups, I'll do check-ups. I'm actually excited at the thought of this. I just graduated undergrad and am thinking about mastering in Criminology and become a private investigator.
Of course, I can't tell you how much I would charge for the service-there's far too many variables. It would all depend on the work and time required. Although, keep in mind that I'm aware I'm not a Private Investigator...I'm just a college grad-for now. If a case is simple, I'd just ask for a fee. If its not and requires "check ups", etc, I would ask for a small percentage of the balance due.
So, if you've been scammed by someone you know resides in Southern California and want to do something about it, send me a PM!

293  Economy / Goods / Cuba's Havana Club Rum-Anejo Especial *Their Premium Rum* NOT Available in US on: May 07, 2013, 07:21:28 AM
Hey everybody.
Up for sale I have a bottle of Cuba's state-run rum company, Havana Club's, "Anejo Especial" Rum. They have 3 "grades" of rum they produce. First is the Blanco-great for mixing drinks, then their mid-level "Anejo 3 Anos", aged 3 years, and finally their "Anejo Especial. This one is a blend of their finest rums, aged for a minimum of 4-5 years. This bottle is a 2010, so its aged nicely in its bottle, too. This rum is for the Aficionado. Don't even think about mixing this one! Its for sipping on the rocks, enjoying the truest of the Caribbean's rum.
This bottle is sealed, all state labels/export stamps in-tact (making it a bottle to save even when you finish it). If you have a home bar and want to TRULY impress guests, this is what you need.
I am asking (including shipping anywhere in USA-sorry, no International) for this bottle. I might be willing to make a deal if you have gold, silver...anything interesting, don't be afraid to try me!

Thanks!

*EDIT: If you are interested in any specific type/brand of alcohol (I can get absinthe!) just send me a message!

Hey,
If you have 300 posts and are always "last seen" less than 72 hours ago, I want your signature space.
I just require one line of it (but it must be at the top and there permanently (NO month/month bs) and its just a link with some text. Here:

BitcoinNumismatists.com - Rare Coins and Bullion for Bitcoins

I reserve the right to say no to anyone (but I'm a nice guy so you would have to be a huge asshole lol).
I am limiting this to first 10 PM's I get (but if its successful you'll see more).
296  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / A "Real" Paper/Physical Wallet on: May 04, 2013, 09:17:21 AM
Hi everybody,
I have seen people trying to sell a "Personal Bitcoin Card". All it is is a card with 2 QR codes-1 is public address, the other is private key. So obviously it's just like a paper wallet. I would be very hesitant to buy such a thing, because you are eternally using the same key pair. To me, paper wallets are great "one time use" devices.
So, am I being paranoid about reusing and reusing key pairs, or is there something to the argument?
Thanks!

298  Other / Beginners & Help / Top Line of Your Signature+5 Post/day for 2 weeks=Silver Dime in Mail on: May 04, 2013, 08:28:23 AM
So this is pretty simple. I have a website that I just created and want to get the word out about it. Signature space is a good way to advertise. But, since posting in the regular threads I have gotten offers like 1 line for one month for $150...ehhh no. So, here I am to capture the rising stars of the bitcointalk community.
The deal is this. I don't care how many posts you have at the moment. Just send me a PM and tell me you're interested, and I'll give you the script to post in your Sig space (I require only one line-the top one, and it must remain there permanently). If you average 5 posts/day for 2 weeks I will mail you a silver dime.
I only ask that you please PM me so that I can get an idea of how many people are interested (I only have so many dimes), and so that I can monitor your post count. If you average more than 5 posts a day, I have silver quarters and half dollars, too (reserve that right to hand those out as I choose)!
And in case you're wondering, the site I'd be asking you to advertise is

(But remember-yours would only take up one line of sig space) Hope to hear from you!
299  Economy / Goods / [WTS] Going to Mexico...junk 925 Silver for spot+50 cents Available on: May 04, 2013, 12:51:09 AM
Hi everyone,
I often leave posts before I make regular visits to Mexico. Popular items in the past have been Cuban Rum and fake designer items. Although, two visits ago I noticed very old, tarnished silver-looking bracelets. On closer inspection, they were marked 925 (although this doesn't mean much in Mexico). I bought a few hoping they truly were silver. I got home, pulled out my JSP testing solution and...real silver. I couldn't believe it. I paid below spot (to say the least) for that silver.
My last visit, I actually brought the testing solution with me. The way it works down there is if you buy something from a vendor (there are TONS who just set up carts) they treat you like royalty. Even if you show interest in something, you are treated like a king. So, they didn't ask many questions when I pulled out the stuff and put a drop on silver-looking bracelets and rings. I spent all of the cash I had on real 925 Silver Jewelry...there wasn't a shortage of it. I wondered how it could possibly be that these vendors were selling real silver?
I talked to my buddy at the liquor store I frequent and told him about it. He said he was aware that some of the stuff is real silver. Remember in about 2003 silver was only $3/oz. He said that vendors' inventory tends to sit for a long time, or is produced and stored, or traded among other vendors. Well, when you have real silver marked 925 and fake silver marked 925 and they're stored together, it takes quite the trained eye to differentiate between the two. I guess I had that eye Wink
So, anyways, I'll be making a visit this weekend-testing solution in-hand. This is probably the best opportunity for you to acquire silver at the lowest possible premium. Find somewhere else that offers silver in any form for only 50 cents over spot. Your silver will/could be bracelets, rings, chains, etc.. But, it will be real 925 silver.
If you want, for a slight additional charge (we can work it out) I can melt your silver down for you in 1oz ingots (or smaller). That's what I do with all the stuff I buy down there. I'd rather have a silver bar than 2 bracelets and a ring.
So, I'll be bringing more cash than usual down there, so I'll be able to buy more silver. If you're interested in buying some, PM me.
Thanks!
