121  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Development team for a HTML5 altcoin game? on: April 30, 2013, 07:05:24 PM
I would like to find out some info on developing an alt-coin and what requirements I would need to do so. As a designer I do not have the technical skills to work on the code which I understand is a major factor, I am confident however that I could create a kick ass brand, merchant stores, merchandise, websites and even in some instances specialty hardware although I would rather try an alternative to hardware mining. The question is how easy is it to find developers capable of working on a new coin, obviously beyond just minor tweaks which seems unnecessary.

My current idea is a create a top-down video game, perhaps HTML5 (web based) allowing users to mine in the game and interact, also providing some unique features. Funding would be limited initially however working as part of a team could allow for steady development and I feel with some actual work on branding/promotion the alt-coin could thrive. This project would not be about pre-mining early or anything of the sort, funds could come from alternative sources such as in-game advertising and upgrade packages, the only real advantage over other users if time & game skills. I would like to the traditional features such as an offline wallet, transactions and trading etc too. I do not intend to contend with Bitcoin, this project would simply allow for users to earn the new alt-coin without the need for software, with HTML5 portability and affordability would be great features. I do have some great ideas for the game mechanics itself, advertising would be a key component, however, not as one would expect.

This project would be a risk for those willing to invest time into it, it is possible we wont see much revenue until a beta is released although I will do my best to support the project with funds from other sources. I am confident in the idea, I just need to gauge whether I could realistically get the right people with the specialties together...

Programmer
HTML5 Developer
Game Designer (mostly animations)
Designer (Web, Illustration, 3D, Graphic Design, Merchandise, Promotion) - I would assume these roles

I could visit specific communities and put together a team with the above experience however an understanding of Cryptocurrency would be an essential attribute. Obviously a more detailed look into the game & fundamentals will be provided to those who respond, the project would be open ended. Out of all the projects I am developing and have considering, this just seems like the most fun and has huge potential.
122  Economy / Lending / Suspicious Loan Request on: April 29, 2013, 04:26:51 PM
A couple of days ago I lent 1BTC to a member on the forum although some were suspicious of the transaction. Anyway today a new JR Member sent a private message to me which I have listed below. I am not sure if this is a user I have dealt with before or perhaps a new scammer who thinks I will go for the scam. Although the deal does not interest me I asked for the ID just to get an idea of whether or not he would provide it which he has. The documents look authentic I guess but as they are US docs I am not familiar with, I cant tie the ID to the user "F" either lol. Investigating further I did a info check on the domain he provided, the registrant of which is listed as "Smith, Maria" while his email and ID states "Jonathon Coleman", he did send the email from admin@sickexchange.com though.

I am not interested in the loan request even without the risk involved but I wanted to share this just in case he has send private messages to other members.

123  Bitcoin / Project Development / (Levitated Ink - OPENCART) How to enhance Bitcoin integration? on: April 29, 2013, 01:19:45 PM
My LevitedInk store is now pretty much setup with all the basic features that I need. At the moment I have some basic payment gateways setup such as Paypal, however I have also added Bitwallet as an option which seems to work fine converting the price into BTC. I am new to Bitwallet though, and to be honest I do not expect people to sign up to the service just so that they can pay using BTC in my store. I would like to find out how I could improve my site so that Bitcoin(& maybe altcoin) customers can purchase using coins aside from having to create accounts for the wallet. Unfortunately Bitwallet seems to be the only Bitcoin extension available, Bitpay has shut down.

www.levitatedink.com

Perhaps there are some extensions out there that I can add manually integrate that are not featured in Opencarts extension library? I realize MT.Gox has a merchant tool however I do not see how that would integrate in terms of processing the shipping information and so on in Opencart. On a side note, the site will offer plenty of features such as coupons, affiliate partnership, gift cards and so on, it would be great to use Bitcoins to enhance those features, for example if an affiliate helps sell a T-shirt I could send them their affiliate commission in BTC.

I have some sexy looking watches arriving soon that I will customize, plus Levitated Ink lighter/bottle openers too. Grin
124  Bitcoin / Project Development / ASIC vendors on: April 28, 2013, 01:26:13 PM
Over the last few months I have been swamped in Bitcoin related projects (& UNI work), most of my projects have been focused around design solutions and the application of design to push forward new concepts within Bitcoin technologies. After creating the 'BitPhantom' design concept I have been contacted numerous times by hardware companies & developers asking about designs for new ASIC and mining rig devices and services that they have planned (capital/resources in place). In order to approach these companies with a more informed understanding of hardware devices such as ASIC chips I thought I would get some input, this information could lead to new devices perhaps at more competitive rates relative to current products.

At the moment my thoughts are predominantly centered around ASIC vendors as this keeps cropping up in contact, I need to find more information on vendors who can provide the boards in particular. If I can find a reputable selection of manufactures that can supply custom boards/chips then everything else will fit in place. Perhaps some members have direct experience in the relevant industries and would like to impart some wisdom? I should add that ASIC's are in the works regardless, I am just looking for options to help in the development to enhance existing ideas. I am also interested in manufacturers of hardware cases/electronics too.

As a side note, if you cannot really add anything in relation to the above then feel free to share your thoughts on what is needed to expand Cryptocurrency technologies(hardware/services) into the future regardless, that might bring about some new innovative ideas. Also If you feel you have relevant technical expertise and can offer specialized hardware/components then feel free to send me a message and I can liaise with those I am in contact with to see what we can come up with. Sorry if this thread is a little broad however I am trying to kill 10 birds with this 1 thread.
125  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Giving away free BTC with product sales? on: April 26, 2013, 01:43:57 PM
I am currently setting up a website that will sell a high quality apparel label, along with other items including Bitcoin merchandise. In order to help spread the Bitcoin message I would also like to give away around 0.1BTC per sale of each T-Shirt. I would like to ask, what is the most efficient/most secure way of doing this? Obviously it is essentially that the code is redeemable once and to the exact specified amount, ideally I would like to print some form of card that I can pack inside the T-Shirt or on a swing tag. These will be small giveaways so the ability to easily create the necessary code per item is important. I will also provide additional info on the items to help users understand Bitcoin and how they redeem their code. I have lots of great ideas to incorporate Bitcoin I just need to solve some of these basic problems.
126  Bitcoin / Project Development / Paper wallet design requirements? on: April 25, 2013, 10:03:10 PM
I would like to get some info in regards to paper wallets, first what (non generic) requirements/features should a good paper wallet design have? I feel I have the resources and distribution channels to create some quality paper wallets for people to use. Also what would be the best method to allow other Bitcoin users to use the wallet? I have never used paper wallets before so I guess I am still a little confused about how they work and the requirements. I do not have a great programming knowledge so even if I cannot create a generator at least I can create a cool design that might be useful somewhere down the line.
127  Economy / Speculation / 100% Serious prediction for 2013 (Backed by science) on: April 24, 2013, 05:12:49 PM
I have noticed a lot of threads making predictions in and around the $200 - $300 before a mass sell off/bubble/correction or what ever people are seeing in the crystal ball these days. Regardless, I have decided to bring together a team of world renowned scientists and top of the range technology in an effort to correct these incorrect assumptions with some actual scientific data. I am proud to announce that after countless hours of studying our surveys, conducting data handling, quantum entangling, and advance mathematical analysis we are proud to bring you a most likely scenarios the summaries our findings in the metric graph below.

This is the current, most reasonable speculative prediction for the year of 2013.

130  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The FIAT Fire Tribe on: April 20, 2013, 12:01:57 AM
I would like to share this idea that I feel describes our current situation.

At the moment I see one dominating "tribe", this tribe is the general population, fully engrossed in the FIAT system despite understanding it's issues. In this tribe FIAT is a tradition however, it is a religion, it has been passed down through generations and is considered an essential for self fulfillment and survival. The tribe in order to worship their religion sit around the "FIAT fire", this fire has burned for generations also and on occasions has burned out(financial collapse) before recouping through the act of throwing on heaps of gasoline and desperate re ignition attempts.

The problem the FIAT tribe faces is this, only so many can have a sit around the preferential radius of the fire, the wealthy as a result huddle around in a tight circle around the middle squeezing out the competition, the rest sit behind those before them in ever expanding layers, each reducing in warmth and expanding in people per layer as you move further from fire. I hope this idea is understandable so far, if you draw a small circle with dots(representing people) then surrounding the previous inner circle with a new outer circle requires more dots in order to build each new outer layer. So now we have established the FIAT tribe, the rich are warm and the poor are freezing on the outer edges.

So how does Bitcoin come into the equation?

Well, the early adopters of Bitcoin are still part of the FIAT tribe, we are still in that circle. However, we have started to realize that huddling by this one flickering fire is not adequate. All the heat and light is filtered and regulated to the extent that the outer circles are growing colder and weaker. As a result Bitcoin is born, humanity has slowly started to look away from the fire and at alternative means of survival away from the FIAT tribes religion.

As the Bitcoin users look out of the circle they begin to see tools and resources laying around the outer perimeters, out of curiosity the first tribe members begin to pick up those tools. The FIAT tribe are now starting to notice other tribe members are picking up mysterious tools outside of the tribes radius too. Those in the inner circle, the wealthy controlling the fire begin to spread rumors, in fear they will do anything to alienate those exploring tribesman. From the inner circles whispers resonate, "those Tribe people are picking up those tools to hurt you! Do not trust them, we have a nice fire going don't give this up".

At the moment the rumors are working, the general populace of the tribe just want to get closer to the FIAT fire and take in as much warmth and light they can get.

So where does that leave those picking up those tools, well we have come to the realization that we can build an oven, a light bulb, a heater! This is a profound step than can not be undone, just like the invention of the wheel, it is an evolutionary shift in thinking. So as Bitcoin users begin to make attempts building various contraptions with varying success, slowly but surely the FIAT tribe will grow curious of what others are up to out of the FIAT tribe circle, somehow operating without need for the fire.

Bitcoin users should expect denial amongst the rumors and propaganda. The circles will continue with the mantra, louder and louder, "why would we mess around with those mysterious, cold looking tools when we have this fire! Yes it is burning out but we can fix this, they can fix this for us! All we need to do is huddle a little closer and give thanks for the space the inner circle provide".

All I can say is pick up those tools, build the infrastructure and show them what they are missing. I firmly believe we have have stepped outside of the circle, beyond the point of going back, all that is left is growth! Sure confidence will be dented, people will run back to the circle when they can not handle the cold or the complexities of the tools, however there are to many looking out of the circle to give up on what has been achieved and what has been seen.

I hope you like this short story, I might even create an illustrative interpretation if people like the idea, feel free to offer new perspectives to the idea too. Smiley

132  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Six reasons why Chinese people will drive the next bull market in bitcoin on: April 19, 2013, 08:34:54 PM
I wanted to share this article as I found it to be an interesting read, perhaps the more experienced members will be familiar with the points in the article however the Q Coin etc were all new to me. I must admit, I never really think about the Asian market when in fact they do and certainly will have huge influence on the future of Bitcoin considering the East is expanding rapidly.

Rather than copying the article I will post the headlines so you can get a gist of the contents, this my article by the way. Feel free to share your thoughts on the article.

http://qz.com/74137/six-reasons-why-chinese-people-will-drive-the-next-bull-market-in-bitcoin/

1. They’ve already done the whole virtual currency thing—with Q Coin.

2. As a medium of exchange, bitcoin could help Chinese people evade currency controls

3. Insane speculation schemes aren’t so crazy to many Chinese people.

4. PCs abound.

5. Chinese techies are used to spending an ungodly amount of time mining virtual coins in online games.

6. The government can’t track it, can’t block it, and can’t crack down on it.
133  Other / Off-topic / If you could create a Bitcoin... on: April 15, 2013, 05:08:17 PM
Digital coins might be difficult to develop for amateur coders or simply eat up to much time in development, however that does not mean we cant think up our own creations! So if you could create a coin, right now what would it be? The suggestions do not have to be practical or realistic, all I ask is that you do not promote any actual coin you might be working on or any pre-existing coins already out there. Obviously a good idea would be to come up with a name but additional ideas such as proof of work, mining alternatives and so on will help complete your coin's vision. Smiley

I guess I will start off. My coin would be...

Spacecoin
To begin with people will need to start obtaining Spacecoin's, a night out with a telescope would be necessary in order to observe the skies. The idea is to find and spot new objects in the nights sky such as asteroids and even obscure planets, to be honest this might have high a difficulty (im not an astronomer), but I like the idea of people earning just from looking out into the universe and enjoying the outdoors. Plus not only would findings help advance science, but no energy would be consumed. Anyway and interesting sights could be reported and if confirmed to be a new finding you get a Spacecoin, perhaps larger findings = larger payouts. I just thought of this idea while writing the thread so it is a little random, I don't even own a telescope lol.

Maybe you could even take ownership of the found object (the aliens wont mind), and sell the object as a commodity. So say I find an asteroid and I call it 'Bob the asteroid', I can then sell Bob to someone else, Bob would be the gold equivalent of the FIAT system. Also if the asteroid happens to be hurtling towards Earth then its value could rise in value exponentially due to public interest(fear) Cheesy.

So what is your idea?
134  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / The UK Public & Bitcoin on: April 15, 2013, 12:01:00 AM
I want to create this thread, slightly out of frustration although I would also like some thoughts. I will have funds in a few hours and I want to buy Bitcoins. The problem is the UK appears to be very limited in regards to services that will exchange GBP to BTC. At the moment I am aware of Localbitcoins and Bitbargain, are these the only services available for the UK? How can those of us who are UK residents get around this issue, maybe I am just missing something really obvious? I have been really trying to push some of my own Bitcoin projects forwards yet I am getting a growing feeling that I will only be able to target the international market as the UK laws (banks) are rejecting the digital currencies.

How can we convince an ordinary UK citizen to go through the laborious process of exchanging GBP to BTC, just for the pleasures of taking what will feel like a big risk to them. At this early stage I think it is essential that people can move around their money, I can't expect UK customers to purchase from my channels and to be honest, I will probably save myself anyway due to the difficulties above. So are the major banks disabling bank transfers to Bitcoin exchanges or are they using courts and the legal system to do the dirty work?
135  Bitcoin / Project Development / Merchant Advice - Accepting Bitcoin Payments? (+Wordpress & Opencart CMS) on: April 12, 2013, 04:44:12 PM
At the moment I am planning/working on a number of projects. I would like some advice on any of the platforms listed below in regards to accepting Bitcoin payments and general extension type stuff that might come in handy. It is clear cryto currencies in general are in need of more merchants trading with coins so hopefully I can contribute a number of new services for those who want to start using coins beyond commodities. I should also add that accepting alternative coins is also worthy of a mention, I hope to accommodate for crypto-currencies in all future projects too. I will list the 3 major platforms I will be developing with, all using separate domains for each project and all requiring slightly different features. If you use any of the below then Demo's will provide some useful insight, I would definitely like to see how you guys have allowed for coin trade in your own projects.

Non-CMS
At the moment I have a self managed portfolio website, nothing much but I might start selling digital goods and design related items through a mini store. I am not to worried to much about this project in terms of accepting coins however if you wish to recommend useful code/payment gateways that will allow me to accept Bitcoin then great and I will integrate.

Wordpress.org
This project will allow premium(payed) user sign ups, Paypal will already be set up however it would also be great if I can somehow allow coin payment for premium membership. I am curious about what WordPress extensions and gateways might be suitable? I realize this is a very general question but if you are a WordPress user I would appreciate your feedback, any good Bitcoin's extensions will do.
*Edit: I should add that this project will be a service created specifically for Bitcoin (& alt) users so extensions for this project will be especially helpful. This is top secret at the moment so don't ask lol Cool.*

Opencart
I plan on creating a designer apparel label and I will use the Opencart CMS to manage the apparel items, affiliates, coupons and so on. This will be an eCommerce project so ideally I would like to allow payments in coins, also the ability to cycle through currencies automatically converting the prices would be useful.

I will not exclude the possibility of hiring for specific extensions to be made for these projects too, I will exhaust other existing possibilities first hence why I am looking for your advice. I will probably look more into hiring at a later stage, at the moment I am interested in the possibilities available now and in the near future.
136  Other / Off-topic / Do you think the Queen is buying up Bitcoins? on: April 11, 2013, 09:32:06 PM
I feel like my head will end up on a pike after asking this, but do you think the Queen (of England) is investing in Bitcoins? Insiders have suggested that she has already emptied her palaces of furniture and century old paintings ready for mining, she is also apparently on the verge of sending a death squad to BFL as she still has not received her mining rigs yet lol.

137  Bitcoin / Mining / Custom Spec Mining on: April 09, 2013, 10:27:08 PM
Lately I have been drawn towards the idea of designing and perhaps even manufacturing a custom mining unit. My question is what skills would I require to create a custom mining rig? I assume the process is fairly difficult and would require programming skills and so on? Could I realistically create a rig for under £1000 that would be adequate once the next mining difficulty increases (no point developing for old standards). I am just a designer so I realize I am probably a little naive in terms of this idea, I just want to invest my money into a worthy idea and create something practical. Could I simply piece together standard PC parts and have a capable mining rig up and running?
138  Other / Beginners & Help / Google+ Bitcoin Community Invite on: April 09, 2013, 03:56:11 PM
Any Google+ users around here? I am sure there are a few lurking around lol, anyway I have just created a Bitcoin community and I would like to invite anyone and everyone to join. I am currently in the invitation process so the community should steadily grow over the next few weeks. Also, in order to promote open discussion on Bitcoin related subjects I have created a variety of categories available to post in and discuss with others. Feel free to suggest new categories if I have missed anything.

  • Discus Bitcoins
  • Trade & Offers
  • Design Content
  • Share Videos
  • Mining Hardware
  • Speculation & Predictions

139  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / What is your transaction count and trading ratio? on: April 09, 2013, 12:48:38 AM
I am just curious how many transactions you have made using Bitcoins? Ideally with a little insight in regards to how long you have been trading in BTC too. You might think this is irrelevant data but I would like to get an idea of transaction count relative to Bitcoin history/experience. Also some indication in terms of your receiving/sending ratio would also be interesting to know?

Personally I am currently at 5 transactions and 100% received (not enough to start spending yet).

Also, rather than creating a new thread I might as well seek some info on another question that has been on my mind. As a newb, what would be the most efficient process/service for trading GBP into BTC? I will be ready to invest on 15thApril and I hoping to get some BTC in my wallet as soon as possible lol.
140  Economy / Marketplace / Selling Marketutopia.co.uk Domain +Opencart theme on: April 06, 2013, 10:33:31 PM
I registered a domain name a few months back (2013-02-11) and I have not really used it since, this is due to focusing on my primary website. As a result I would like to offer up the Marketutopia.co.uk domain for sale. Aside from the domain I can also provide(included in the price) the custom theme and branding (logos etc) that I designed specifically for the domain. At the moment I have a popular third party eCommerce system 'Opencart' installed and the theme is a customized version of the default 'Opencart' theme (latest build).

In terms of stats (visitors etc), this domain is pretty much a clean slate with very few indexed pages. I have never really published any products, just some Amazon affiliate links to test the feel and structure of the site. The domain name is ideal for anyone looking to sell a broad range of items, even Bitcoin related stuff. You can check it out using the link below.

(Note: For those with little web design/programming experience and little desire to hand code, simply set up an account(free) with 'Opencart' then copy over the theme files. You can then add products and modules etc through the Opencart dashboard without having to deal with coding!)

http://marketutopia.co.uk

I will accept BTCBTC £ $ so feel free to leave an offer if interested. The entire package would land you with a fully functioning, branded website with a CMS system that also offers tons of features from coupons to affiliate promoting. I have also noticed some Bitcoin extensions in the Opencart marketplace that you might like to experiment with.  Wink
