Experts are able to predict better on which project will be more profitable, most people by chance are lucky to pick good project. I have taken note that project managers matters, there are some managers that are already noted and trust worthy, like arteezy, sylon, btcdigger ...or a name like that and some others that you can trust for good project, it increases your chances of choosing a rewarding project. Sometimes, the number of participants also bombard the reward.

Most times, excessive bonus kill the project, except the project has a very robust community and has good liquidity and therebye supporting the project for an organic growth. Although the major intent of any bonus is to get the attention of buyers who may think it's a good offer but actually a deadly one in the long run.

I will rather use a centralized exchange that I understand it mechanism well. Use a trusted exchange and avoid exchange like bitebtc, and avoid the one with too much withdrawal fee, and not requiring KYC for the amount you are about to exchange.

I don't think so about this point, many altcoins will be forgotten but many altcoins can appear and replace it. Eth is slow in terms of price if consider to btc but that is as a result of the many ico's lunched using the eth network, still that is not to be consider eth as scam, inshort, you should give credit to eth, as a result of eth we have many erc20 project in the market with good potential to grow big, not all erc20 project are scam, many are genuine and good.
