Trigger Warning: Businesswire

https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/20200811005331/en/MicroStrategy-Adopts-Bitcoin-Primary-Treasury-Reserve-Asset

TYSONS CORNER, Va.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--MicroStrategy® Incorporated (Nasdaq: MSTR), the largest independent publicly-traded business intelligence company, today announced that it has purchased 21,454 bitcoins at an aggregate purchase price of $250 million, inclusive of fees and expenses. The purchase of Bitcoin cryptocurrency was made pursuant to the two-pronged capital allocation strategy previously announced by the company when it released its second quarter 2020 financial results on July 28, 2020.

The company addressed the first prong, which called for returning a portion of its excess cash to shareholders, when it announced today that it had launched a cash tender offer for up to $250 million of MicroStrategy’s class A common stock via a modified Dutch Auction offer. By acquiring 21,454 bitcoins, MicroStrategy addressed the other prong of its capital allocation strategy, which called for investing up to $250 million in one or more alternative investments or assets.

“Our investment in Bitcoin is part of our new capital allocation strategy, which seeks to maximize long-term value for our shareholders,” said Michael J. Saylor, CEO, MicroStrategy Incorporated. “This investment reflects our belief that Bitcoin, as the world’s most widely-adopted cryptocurrency, is a dependable store of value and an attractive investment asset with more long-term appreciation potential than holding cash. Since its inception over a decade ago, Bitcoin has emerged as a significant addition to the global financial system, with characteristics that are useful to both individuals and institutions. MicroStrategy has recognized Bitcoin as a legitimate investment asset that can be superior to cash and accordingly has made Bitcoin the principal holding in its treasury reserve strategy.”

Damn Bob, you beat me to this!

Very big news.
First publicly traded company to dump fiat currencies and embrace hard money trough digital Gold. This is a turning point for bitcoin.

Is this why we've dropped a little do you think? The current price is around what these folks paid per bitcoin.

Barry Silbert, CEO of crypto investment giant Grayscale, also praised the company’s decision. He tweeted:
“MicroStrategy, a $1.2 billion company, just turned itself into a publicly-traded bitcoin play. Smart.”

I like how a few months ago the news was that buying on Mondays was the best. I guess everyone front-ran that advice.

The CME gap fill is a theory that is widely recognized within the cryptocurrency market. Data shows that the Bitcoin exchange market usually moves to fill the gap between CME and the rest of the market. Consequently, following a weekend, Bitcoin often sees a major price action.

It only took 4 days to come back to 11 900. It's bullish.

I have been thinking similarly... I have been expecting more correction or more flat.. but she seems to be wanting to gravitate UPpity... for some strange reason.  Go figure?

It's that mythical melt up everyone likes to talk about.

I'll tell you a little true story: My wife woke up about three years ago around 1am at night and told me she was dreaming of an epic catastrophic event that was happening (yes, she was in the future in her dream) on the 17th of august 2020. She was fucking terrified by this dream but couldn't remember details other than the date.
I don't really believe in this kind of foreseeing, but i entered the date on my smartphone's calendar. I set the reminder to 14 days ahead. So i asked her a few days ago, but she
could not remember anything about a bad dream and a certain date.

Cool story, though kind of seems she or anyone could have picked a random date in 2020 and there'd be something to be terrified about. Here's hoping in your case a dream is just a dream.

I wonder if they have Covid on Mars?

am willing to find out

Beautiful test today. SpaceX continues to just do their thing and everyone else is playing catchup. Granted they are standing on some pretty giant NASA shoulders but SpaceX has to be given sole credit for normalizing reusable launch vehicles. Kind of crazy how just a few years ago many didn't believe it was practical to even bother to try and achieve.

Dave Portnoy has got 1.72M followers.
Let’s do it.   I want to buy all the bitcoins.
hope he can understand bitcoin, and finally get some.

If he buys all the bitcoins I'm guessing he'll be able to get some.

Talking of strategies to sell some, what are strategies being planned by others here?
  • Where do you invest/save your new stack of fiat in the current economy?

Bigger pumps in 2021 !

it is just started, 2021 should be 2017 in this cycle, so next year should bring more gains for BTC, but one should be prepared for that, it will be too late to get in at that moment, i presume, if that moment comes in the middle of 2021

Why? It'd just be another cycle. Plan to hold for 4 years from whenever you buy.

At the risk of starting a heated debate...

Digital is the clear winner, there's no question about it. Digital is a wild force that conquers everything in its path. Computing, audio, photography, video, communications, now cash... You name it.

Analog still has its place in areas where digital has not yet entered. The universe and its quantities are fundamentally analog, so there will always be a bridge between analog and digital (microphones and speakers will stay analog for a very long time).

Analog has sentimental value (that "good old times" kind of feeling).
Analog is romantic (for the ladies -- sorry to our female WOs, but it's true, speaking from experience).

But digital is The King. Those who disagree are entering Flat Earth territory.

Sure, for all practical purposes digital is the tech winner. Analog is now an increasingly difficult to implement artistic option whereas before it was the only choice. I still make records the old fashioned way but instead of tape I use a hard drive. The newer generations of record producers have an often markedly different approach that is much more computer focused from the get-go.

The universe may be fundamentally analog, but the way we understand it and describe it is fundamentally digital. Energy is passed in quanta between particles, but to my limited understanding at least, that's because particles resonate, not because there is an immutable limiting value. Quantum entanglement is the universe's blockchain.

Hope everyone in the WO is doing well in this new normal. I've been trying to avoid social media for a bit but this was too cool not to share with the group, in the vein of that btc wars tank website, but this one is buses and people (in what looks like a South Park art style), and you can compare btc to other coins too, a fun time waster...

A little bit. Yes. Our history is what it is. Destroying historical artifacts is fucking retarded.
