21  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Btc and alts on: March 19, 2021, 05:29:00 AM
When BTC dominance is high, it affects the alts then after BTC dips, its the alts turn to pump. Think of it as a circulation of money. This is because this is the money flow as follows:

1. Fiat (e.g. USD, EUR, GBP)

2. BTC

3. Large Cap Altcoins (e.g $ETH)

4. Mid Cap Altcoins

5. Low Cap Altcoins

6. BTC again

7. Fiat

22  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Extremely Underrated 'Basic Attention Token' (BAT) | Finally All time high $1.16 on: March 18, 2021, 02:46:46 PM
This was due to it being listed as one as new trust on Grayscale along with 4 other coins namely chainlink (LINK), decentraland (MANA), filecoin (FIL), livepeer (LPT). You can read more about it here. I think that BAT has been under the radar lately because of their minimal developments but if you really take the time to check out their project, you can see that there's plenty of potential to it. I've been using the Brave browser and its really great. What I like about it is that its Chromium meaning all the extensions and linked accounts I had for Google Chrome can be instantly transferred. I think that BAT should partner up with more people for their ads.
23  Economy / Economics / Re: Your pots of money and thinking long term / retirement / life after retirement on: March 18, 2021, 02:00:07 PM
Yes, we should think about retirement, but don't spend too much time planning it since it is not that useful. Imagine you are driving at night. You will find that you can only see up to 250 feet (according to google Grin). The same goes for long-term planning. You can see only a few years in the future.

What's more useful is the budget management:
(1) Don't use debts, except if you are 100% sure it's profitable in the end.
(2) Don't spend more than you earn.
(3) Reinvest your saving to generate more income.
I use all of these things all together and I can't say that I am rich, I have been working for just 9 years so far which means maybe it will take some more time, but "unexpected" payments cause you to go back to zero when you are not too rich.

I never taken out a loan ever, and I never owned credit card neither, I always lived within my means and never had debt in my life, I always save 10% of my savings forever and never had a problem with that, and I reinvest that money into things to make more money. Why am I not rich? Because, I had to spend that money into things that wasn't expected, health related stuff, parent related stuff, life related stuff in general, not because I spent it on some funny stuff, I spent it on important stuff and that is why I think it is quite important to realize that you could do everything and still not be rich if you get unlucky.

There's a saying here in my country for the middle class people that it will only take just one sickness or medical emergency to render you bankrupt. This is because the medical expenses here are ridiculously expensive it will literally drown you in debt. Unlike in the US or other more developed countries, the government doesn't cover that much for your hospital expenses. People joke that the debt you incur is more deadly than your illness.

This is why I try to build up my emergency funds and get a health insurance. However even if I have those, one trip to the hospital could deplete all those. Sadly, I've only started becoming more serious on saving and investing just recently but I follow a simple formula. Savings - income = expenses. Instead of just saving what's left for my expenses, I do the opposite and spend only what's left after I take out the percent of what's supposed to be saved/invested and if I exceed that then I'm living beyond my means or in need of additional income.
24  Local / Altcoins (Pilipinas) / Re: Cardano (ADA) will be listed in Coinbase Pro and Coinbase on: March 17, 2021, 02:20:52 PM

25  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Visa: We make it possible to buy bitcoins using Visa on: March 17, 2021, 02:09:58 PM
I'm more keen on seeing more development on this as I've already heard about this sometime in the past. I hope they will be able to allow us to pay with bitcoin for any merchant that accepts Visa, just like how paypal plans on doing so. I think Paypal's plans and implementations are more expressed as compared to Visa which hasn't detailed out their integration with crypto. Paypal was even able to lay out a timeline although they haven't given any update for now.
26  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Trading your strategy on DEMO is a waste of time on: March 14, 2021, 12:09:32 PM
Yeah, its just not the same in demo trading. The gain or loss doesn't hit you as it does in a live trade. I tried this at first as well and the emotions in actual trading is a lot different. You think to yourself that you're ready and won't be affected but when you actually see all the red and negative on your portfolio you'll really feel yourself sweating. In trading, you just really have to hit the ground running. What's good with demo trading is that it allows you to practice your entries and exits, assess whether you can identify the patterns and eventually familiarize yourself.
27  Economy / Economics / Re: Free Market Efficiency vs GPU Scalpers on: March 14, 2021, 12:00:20 PM
We live in a world where capitalism exists so sadly, opportunities like this will bring about scalpers who will grab the rising demand they see. Its sad to see how good GPUs are so hard to come by right now its basically a rip off if you buy one. I pity the gamers or pc users who intend on building a PC then having to deal with overpriced GPUs. I read somewhere that Nvidia intends on creating a dedicated GPU for mining so I hope that when they do, it will solve this competition amongst the miners and gamers.
28  Economy / Micro Earnings / Re: Play to earn btc. on: March 14, 2021, 11:55:42 AM
There are many blockchain games out there especially since NFTs are a thing right now but I have not heard of any play to earn btc games. I remember back in 2017, those were a thing alongside faucets which allow you to play games but it seems like there are no faucets anymore these days. Most of them were really not worth your time. I suggest you could look into blockchain games but most of these are ETH based or rewards will be in NFT tokens. Still pretty early in the development stage but has plenty of potential for development.
29  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why new projects/ coins do not have ANN on bitcointalk ? on: March 13, 2021, 02:24:22 PM
Tell me the reason it is necessary for the project to create ANN on bitcointalk.
Although depending on different projects they have their own channels to discuss their issues privately, so I don't think it is an important issue.

Well, normally projects would first create an ANN thread here on bitcointalk because its a forum full of people who knows about crypto and have the potential to buy in or invest on the project. (Although I would say that probably 90% of the members don't actually do) then a bounty campaign is initiated. If you were to share these projects on social media, it wouldn't gain much traction because not many know what crypto, coins, tokens etc. are. That was the case back in 2017 especially when ICOs were booming but I guess most projects are able to market better using other social media tools which turns out to be more effective for them, I believe.
30  Economy / Speculation / Re: Microstrategy keep buying bitcoin. How if they become the biggest BTC HODLer? on: March 13, 2021, 02:15:28 PM
I think we need companies offering utilities, we need companies that'll buy into the idea of accepting bitcoin as payment options and give announcement like this more often instead of constantly manipulating the market with their news of acquiring more coins that only benefit them. Tesla bought bitcoin then they offered it as a payment options for their electric cars, we need more companies like this.

Exactly. I've been seeing Microstrategy buying bitcoin again and again so it doesn't feel any new to me and this news doesn't give any impact anymore as it did when he first bought. I'm more keen on seeing companies like what Paypal has done, accepting crypto merchant payments (although it hasn't launched yet). I want to see companies like Netflix, Amazon or Apple investing and then offering it as a payment method for their subscriptions. Once that happens, that's when we can expect to see more retail investors flocking in.
31  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin and monetary policy on: March 13, 2021, 02:05:47 PM
Here is a guide to Bitcoin, Blockchain, and Cryptocurrency for Investment professionals. Also, here is a youtube video on Blockchain and Money which was conducted at MIT, but that's more on the technical side of blockchain. This one is more related to history of money and our financial systems and how bitcoin plays a part. Its a series so you can check out the others on their channel. Watching it was super fascinating to learn about history of the global finance and payments system. Essentially, ledgers are at the core of everything and the way we make payments has always gone through processes of evolution and change. This lecture was conducted by the guy who was nominated by joe biden himself to be the SEC chief.
32  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is for Holders! on: March 13, 2021, 01:55:25 PM
While it may be true that if you are into trading and investing, then buying Bitcoin or any other type of crypto for that matter is definitely for those who can hodl and withstand the market changes but amidst that, Bitcoin is more than just for holding. Although many have benefitted from holding bitcoin and became millionaires (congrats to them), Satoshi Nakamoto created bitcoin for purposes more than that. I see bitcoin as a revolutionary change for our financial systems.
33  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where's the altcoin bull on: March 12, 2021, 03:47:50 PM
I don't think all old projects will run by their ATH as they previously did last 2017. Many of the top performing coins from previous years are not performing as well right now, and many of the new coins took the spotlight. If there's no development on the coin then its just pure speculation. Back in 2017 was also a time when ICOs were booming but only about 5-10% have actually succeeded. Even if were in a bull run, not all the alts will pump as it did. However, after a BTC pump its then time for the altcoins to shine.
34  Economy / Economics / Re: Crypto Art record! 69M for a Beeple on: March 12, 2021, 03:33:23 PM
You'd be surprised at how much people spend on art, much less for digital ones. NFT hype pretty crazy right now. I wonder how long this will last? If I had artistic skills, I'd likely want to turn it into an NFT as well.

Have you guys heard about the properties turned into NFTs as well? Although there's no confirmation if there's any value or validity to it like a land title would. It's crazy because its like anything can be turned into a NFT now. I can imagine more celebrities jumping into this and take advantage to get profit.

The OP's first reply:
Not when the average guy using BTC doesn't even know how LN works and so few people/companies are accepting it.. The main problem is currently sitting on the main layer - second-layer solutions aren't imo real solutions to those issues.

This guy's reply just a few replies down which is literally just copy-pasted. I just noticed while I was scrolling.

36  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: China Declares War on Bitcoin (?) on: March 11, 2021, 10:47:49 AM
Not much of an environmental or energy expert but is building 700 coal plants in replacement really the better alternative? Sounds sus to me. There's so many other energy alternatives there. Why not builder solar, thermal plants or install wind mills? Do they even know the energy consumption of mining? Otherwise, its probably just a cover up as crackdown on crypto..

Chinese social media Weibo suspends Huobi, OKEx and Binance accounts just today is also another indication that they're just trying to drive out crypto, most probably because this is not within their control and regulation.
37  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: NEM ($XEM) worth holding for the Symbol ($XYM) drop? on: March 11, 2021, 05:01:35 AM
It's quite expected for the price to drop before the event and since the airdrop is coming up soon, people may have been already selling because they already took profit. There are those who don't bother with the airdrop and just rode in to take profit knowing that the price will go up leading up to the event. It's up to you if you really want to hold and wait for the airdrop to get some $XYM but just keep in mind that its likely that there will be a dump. I suggest you do more research on NEM to determine which is more worthwhile.
38  Local / Pamilihan / Re: Bagong Crypto Trading Platform sa Pinas - BloomXapp on: March 11, 2021, 02:38:50 AM
Heto ang latest news, BloomX Enters Tech Agreement with Binance to Offer 250 Cryptocurrencies to Filipinos.

Quote
March 10, 2021 — BloomSolutions, a local virtual asset service provider licensed by the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas, said it has entered an agreement with global crypto exchange Binance to leverage its core technology, infrastructure, and liquidity, to allow Philippine residents to access and trade over 250 cryptocurrencies in exchange for Philippine peso (PHP) in the recently launched “BloomX” crypto trading platform.

The BloomX app allows anyone to easily trade cryptocurrencies for Philippine pesos and vice versa. Among the 250 cryptocurrencies supported are the major ones like Bitcoin and Ethereum, as well as popular tokens like Aave, SXP, and SLP. (Read More: Philippines Gets New Crypto Trading Platform With BloomX App)

Previously, co-founder Luis Buenaventura said BloomX app’s “exchange page” is powered by a deep order book exchange though only the buy/sell form is shown to the user for simplicity. Binance is revealed to be this deep order book exchange in the recent episode of BloomCast, a weekly crypto webshow hosted by the BloomSolutions founders. Every time a user places an order to buy a crypto on BloomX, the order is then placed in Binance. This ensures users that orders will always be executed.

Quote
By leveraging the technology of Binance, buying crypto on BloomX means buying from Binance itself, albeit in a relatively easier process than placing an order in a sophisticated order book. Luis said the app is made this way because its target users are not the more sophisticated ones.

Luis also said it doesn’t make sense to only support 5 or 6 coins in a trading app. “Filipino customers want to diversify their crypto portfolios, and our platform allows them to do that in seconds, with just a couple of clicks.”
39  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Trading from Scratch on: March 10, 2021, 03:21:00 PM
One of the things you should first be aware of if you are really keen on trading is to be knowledgeable on the basics, the platform and its features and how to read the charts. Its astonishing to see newbies jumping aboard without even first knowing how to deposit and withdraw crypto, not knowing the differences between the networks and thus losing their coins in the process of transferring. Too many are to eager to earn the potential gain but don't even bother getting a feel of it and I believe this is why many traders lose their money.
40  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Atari Set to Launch Cryptocurrency Casino Featuring Atari-themed Games and NFTs on: March 10, 2021, 02:58:29 PM
NFTs are pretty hot right now and you can also purchase digital collectibles if you're a big Atari fan. It will make you nostalgic if you look through the cards they have in the marketplace, most of them have the old school styles. It may be just a running fad that will possibly die soon, seeing companies like these brings a lot of positive influence.

I'm hoping to see more large gaming industries adopting blockchain and NFTs as well, this could be very big for the gaming industry especially since the gaming industry has been booming recently even amidst the pandemic.
