141  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Do bounty participants enjoy longer or shorter campaigns? on: May 16, 2019, 07:19:50 AM
Campaigns that stretches for longer periods are preferable unless the payment will be made by the time the campaign ends. The reputation of the campaign or its manager also helps. If the payment will be made in tokens, ETH or any other coin asides from BTC, then I'd probably prefer a shorter campaign.

What I don't like about a campaign is when it requires a ridiculous amount of posts/has no limit/promotes spamming or even when they allow spam posters to participate. Those who spam should not be given the opportunity to earn from it, it's like paying someone to trash a place.
142  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Philippines Senate Election 2019 - Democracy is dead! on: May 16, 2019, 06:44:49 AM
Can someone explain the pay-for-voting thing? I don't quite understand how it works, but it sounds like all (or most) voters receive somewhere between 500 and 4,000 pesos simply for voting.

All I know is my girlfriend got gipped out of her payment. She wasn't too happy about it. She also noticed that kids as young as 15 were being allowed to vote, and on top of that, she thinks the computer vote tracking systems were being manipulated. For reference, this is in Mindanao, Region X.

Yes, it's callled vote buying. During the campaign period or days before the election, candidates give out around 500 pesos to registered voters along with a sample ballot or list of who to vote for. Some were actually caught and arrested by the police, see in article. If you're wondering why there are people gullible enough to accept this is because 500 pesos goes a long way for some. For me, what's more surprising is the "mass or union voting of one religion wherein they require all the members of a church to vote for particular candidate/s.

Normally, kids as young as 15 years old are not allowed to vote but there has been alleged cheating within the Mindanao area where even those already dead were able to cast a vote. It has not been verified yet, however. There has been many speculations that the computer vote tracking systems were comprised because of the inconsistent reports and numerous faulty vote counting machines.
143  Local / Others (Pilipinas) / Re: Resources Para Matuto sa English Language on: May 16, 2019, 04:28:02 AM

144  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Philippines Senate Election 2019 - Democracy is dead! on: May 16, 2019, 04:13:13 AM
IMO, voter education should be promoted.

I once read an article about Socrates' view on democracy. Quote:

Quote
Socrates’s point is that voting in an election is a skill, not a random intuition. And like any skill, it needs to be taught systematically to people. Letting the citizenry vote without an education is as irresponsible as putting them in charge of a trireme sailing to Samos in a storm.

Even back then during the Ancient times, they encountered some problems with the democracy system and experienced some failure in their election. There were those who were wrongly charged because of this system and back then a wrong charge is fatal because hanging or death was the penalty.

And proper voter education does not pertain only to the uneducated or low class. You'd be surprised by the voter turnout among the elite.

To reiterate, I would like to quote what I have read from the article:

"We have forgotten all about Socrates’s salient warnings against democracy. We have preferred to think of democracy as an unambiguous good – rather than a process that is only ever as effective as the education system that surrounds it."

145  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: The Urgency for Scammer Blacklist on: May 16, 2019, 04:00:23 AM
The scammers should be prosecuted. For me, I believe, that is one measure that should be done to alleviate this problem. However, the question on jurisdiction and enforcement will be kind of tricky and complicated. The officials can only do so much plus it will be hard to catch them. They can easily disappear, abandon their compromised profiles and start anew. The creation of a blacklist is only a band-aid solution. I'm pretty sure these scammers are not so afraid of being caught.

I guess a way to help is to educate the users out there so that they may avoid being scammed. If there were less victims of these scams, then the scammers would probably run out of a business to run. We should expose them of their ways and pinpoint the red flags so that the people are aware and they can protect themselves.
146  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Another Phishing Attack through Emails - Blockchain.info (BEWARE) on: May 15, 2019, 06:52:18 AM
Phishing has been one of the major problem we are encountering in the Crypto space and something really needs to be done about it, firstly we need to ask how are this hackers about to pull out the email of people from the database of Blockchain.com, or is it possible that they sent a random message to both owners and non owners of Blockchain wallet, because if they are getting their data from Blockchain wallet, then they really need to do something about the security of the information they have in their possession to avoid hackers getting some sensitive details.

It's possible that they got their info elsewhere. Retrieving emails is quite easy - you can get info like that almost anywhere. People give away their email addresses very freely. On average, I think most people regularly receive spam email and its very likely for you to get phishing emails such as these. I'm sure wallet owners know how important and sensitive their information is and how vulnerable they'll be once they are compromised. Anyone just gullible enough would fall for phishing emails.
147  Economy / Economics / Re: Starbucks, Nordstrom And Whole Foods Now Accept Bitcoin on: May 14, 2019, 08:06:33 AM
Summary:

Quote
all evidence points to the fact that as of today, some of the largest and best-known companies in the world are now accepting bitcoin, ether, litecoin, bitcoin cash, zcash and the Gemini Dollar (GUSD), a cryptocurrency backed by real U.S. dollars stored in a State Street account and built on top of the public ethereum blockchain.

Companies now officially accepting these cryptocurrencies, according to Flexa, are Barnes & Noble, Baskin Robbins, Bed Bath & Beyond, Caribou Coffee, Crate & Barrel, Express, GameStop, Jamba Juice, Lowe’s, Nordstrom, Office Depot & OfficeMax, Petco, Regal Cinemas, Ulta Beauty and Amazon-owned Whole Foods Market. And of course, there's Starbucks, in spite of not being part of the official launch. In total, nearly 100 stores are expected to start accepting bitcoin and the other cryptocurrencies via the Spedn app by the end of this year.

This could explain bitcoin's recent price spike.

For anyone who remembers discussions from years ago about bitcoin going mainstream: bitcoin reaching a critical point of mass adoption to where you could literally purchase a cup of coffee with it. That day may finally have arrived. History is being made! This has to be one of the biggest and least covered events to ever occur in the history of crypto currencies.

One big question here is what the media and pro establishment response will be, if any. There have been numerous news reports of mcdonalds and other retail giants rolling out their own payment processor systems based around cell phone technology. In mcdonald's case, their implementation was reported to be significantly flawed with many having their money stolen and accounts breached. Crypto currency based payment systems associated with cell phones could be poised to provide a stable and functional merchant platform in an era where such technology is in desperate need.

Kind of hard to tell what the media or pro-establishment response would be - what with cryptocurrency's reputation to the public. Not everyone feels safe with the use of crypto so their may be doubt with this kind of payment system at first.

Surely, good news such as this would have an impact on the price but I thought of the recent price spike can be likened to the parabolic rise last 2015 which also slowly recovered from a bearish trend. During that time, there was a near 150 percent increase before temporarily topping out at $499 on Nov. 4th of that year. For the year 2019, bitcoin's price increases have been quite aggressive.
148  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Regulating bodies on: May 08, 2019, 06:37:11 AM
Online gambling is very popular nowadays, specially those who also uses crypto for playing. With this popularity, there's ton of gambling sites/operators available. But the problem is who to trust? who plays fair and pays fair?

Are there any regulating bodies that verifies, rates, and promotes gambling sites that is genuinely fair to its customers? Not just on fair plays but also gambling sites that protects its customers identity etc. Thank you.

It's almost impossible to have a regulatory body for online crypto casinos because they are not bound by regions. Crypto casinos can be operated from any countries so the best way to see its legitimacy is to check if a casino is licensed in their country or not. ALl license crypto casinos usually show their company name and license number in their website which can be validated through the company directory of their respective countries. That's the first level of validation anyone can do.

Second level validation is mainly the reputation check. Looks for their official thread in big forums like bitcointalk and go through the recent comments. You will definitely get an idea about what's going on. These reputation check will give you a very good overview about a particular casino and you can accordingly decide whether you want to go ahead with them or not!

I think there are reviews that you can search online or find in forums such as this, and that could aid you in verifying or validating. Reputation plays a big part - surely if a gambling site has a sketchy history, people would talk about it so better keep your ears open for that. So far, I don't think that there are any other regulating bodies which makes verification because of the conflict among jurisdictions. The best a customer could do is due diligence and research on the background of the gambling site or operator.
149  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The Best way to Practice the English Language [Speech and Writing] on: May 02, 2019, 06:47:37 AM
Cool tool. I guess if you're more into speaking, or too lazy to type.

IMO, I find the use of grammarly pretty useful as well. I downloaded a google chrome extension so that whenever I use my browser (whether I'm going to post on bitcointalk or for other purposes) it automatically detects whenever you make a typo or wrong spelling, and even makes suggestions for your grammar. If you're really keen into being better in English, then I suggest using a tool like this. For those who are having a hard time or are still coping with the basics of English language then this tool will surely aid you.

I have as much as a right to type here as anyone else. As this is my thread to our channel. I dont go around posting in other peoples threads.   Angry
If you dont like our thread then leave!

If this is a PSA/notice to your discord members, why not post it on discord...? Why use this platform?

Also, if you really want to spread knowledge or awareness or tax information, why not make a new thread in legal. This is a thread on Project Development so unless you want to propose a project or ask advise or opinions on a certain project then I don't see how your matters relating to your members in discord or any other matter should be posted here.
151  Economy / Economics / Re: would you give your fingerprint or eye scan for a fair money supply? on: March 20, 2019, 11:55:51 PM
No, I wouldn't. Bio metrics is crucial and private information. It can be used in criminal ways so I won't be willing to give it away just for some cash. Or any private information for that matter. Your own privacy and security shouldn't be bought so easily. Even when I'm struggling financially, I won't be so willing to give away my finger prints or eye scans just like that even if money was involved. Its like selling your own unique identity. Plus, I find it kind of sketchy since what gain would you get from this information?
152  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin has no practical use and could be damaging to the economy! on: March 18, 2019, 04:34:47 AM
What does electron money means, btw?

I think, what he was trying to say was electronic money.

You should have to consider that most people will not agree or accept the new technology as they were so fed up with their old school style

Meaning not using any modern technology like mobile phones and computers??

People are fed up with lies about crypto currency which is vastly used for online scam. These kinds of reason is the sole reason why they dont even consider to use crypto currency.

People's natural reaction to change is usually negative. This is a natural psychological reaction that happens to anything, not only with crypto. They are quick to reject it even while they haven't even given a chance to get to know it. This may have even happened during the initial introduction of new technology such as smartphones and computers. Many inventions are mostly rejected by the public because of this fear. People don't even consider cryptocurrency because they are scared of something so alien and new to them.
153  Economy / Economics / Re: The Factors of Demand and supply on: March 17, 2019, 11:00:25 PM
When I was in college we were taught that the price of any commodity is determined by the factors of demand and Supply to a large extent.
In your understanding, do you think that the price of bitcoin is determined by the factors of demand and supply?
very precise and correct because of that price and value of crypto currency cannot be predicted with certainty and it is one of the risks in investing using crypto currency so in other words the development of crypto currencies depends on the investor itself

of course it is!  and since the supply of bitcoin is fix and it is decreasing because of lost coins, and the demand is growing everyday, i assume that its price is going in the positive direction. why the demand is growing? more merchants are accepting bitcoin as payment method, more companies are integrating blockchain technology within their operations, and popular companies are creating their own coins, and more people are understanding its benefits and usage. in these mentioned scenarios, at one point along the process, someone needs bitcoin to participate in the system. so yes, i strongly believe that demand is growing. just my 2 cents.  Wink

What has made you say the demand is growing everyday? There may be more merchants accepting and adopting bitcoin, and more developments being done however I wouldn't say that the demand has been growing. Demand = people wanting to buy and since the price decrease last 2017, people have been doubtful of buying bitcoin since then (the general public, that is). Even with the crypto community so actively engaging, the demand for bitcoin has been stagnant. But that would only be my opinion as well.
154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin cryptocurrency banks needed. on: March 17, 2019, 01:48:47 PM
I think it's better to have the existing banks now to accept cryptocurrency, not to create a bank only for the cryptocurrency. Banks nowadays are trusted and there are many investors here and there so it's more essential for a bank to upgrade their system and accept cryptocurrency. It will just fail to have a bank that is exclusive for cryptocurrency only, not all the time, cryptocurrency will hype your daily life. I personally don't want banks since I can't keep my money/bitcoin here in online wallet or hardware wallets.

It may be a long time before that happens because of all the regulation and compliance mess up there is with having to deal with cryptocurrencies. Just now, banks are already starting to evade crypto — and even have been trying to tarnish its image by discouraging their users and spreading propaganda. But I’d have to agree that citizens have more trust for already reputable banks and will be more confident with the use of crypto if it were to be associated.

But I think that in time, it may be possible for crypto banks to exist or co-exist with other financial institutions. When the time comes that the reputation of crypto is no longer so vague, more people will begin engaging.
155  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do you think a "winning mindset" can get you what you want while gambling? on: March 17, 2019, 01:34:56 PM
"If you have got a winning mindset with no negativity in your mind, you are about to start a journey where you will see higher chances of winning over losing."
Winning mind set doesn't necessarily give you higher chances of winning but rather motivates you to focus more on the game play rather than looking and worrying to your profit. It's like achieving your dreams; you won't get it if you don't believe on yourself in the first place.

Actually, I think that having a winning mindset will only make you more positive. And that even when you encounter losses, it won’t bring you down as much since you’re focused on winning. The upside to this is your motivation and drive to play — however, I think this could also be somewhat bad for others because they may overlook their losses even if its already hurting them badly because they’re too determined to win. Others just end up in frustration.
156  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will Cryptocurrency change financial institutions completely? on: March 13, 2019, 11:53:38 PM
Well I went to a NEO coin Developer Convention today and based off everything they were discussing it sounds like Europe, Asia, S. America and N. America are getting ready to completely get rid of cash and unite the entire global economy. Those of you blockchain developers what are your thoughts on this?
uniting the global economy? and eliminate cash? if indeed that happens it is the progress made from the big countries, and it cannot be denied that many other developing countries will participate. You could say this is one form of change in the economy that was influenced by the digital era.

This is not going to happen. Unite global economy and no cash, not a chance. At least not in our live time but in general I think that expecting so huge changes from cryptocurrencies is utopia. They are just not designed like that and global economy couldn't rely on them, such system would crash. I wouldn't say it's completely impossible but for that some major changes in technology of cryptocurrencies would be needed.

Globalization has been rapidly progressing but were still far from having a united global economy, much less a cashless society. Even with the formation of the UN, I still think that having a global economy is far from reality. As for now, were already experiencing technological advancements due to crypto. Blockchain technology will soon be utilized everywhere.
157  Economy / Economics / Re: Are You The INTELLIGENT Cryptocurrency Investor? on: March 13, 2019, 11:50:55 PM
It’s good to read books about investment to learn new and old stuffs that you never knew about.
Books are obsolete, people are not writing book about crypto, this is quite new to people so you cannot read a lot of info in a book.
In the first place, why would you have to pay for a book when there are a lot of free information in the internet.

It can be very helpful. There are people who never take out their time to read and learn the stuff they are into, they just jump in and follow they crowd wherever they are heading to. It’s good to read, cause it you don’t, there are things that you will never get to know.

Articles, news, and anything that could be useful to decision making can be find in the net, the rest is just based on our analysis.

If other people were able to make it, I'm sure we can also be successful but we need to be an smart investor to do that, things are possible if you work your way on reaching your goal.
Indeed, books were an outdated tool, if we wanted to know something, google will provide everything, even a lot of people will aggregate and create a perfect answer for us, we don't need to read books. And whether we have become an intelligent investor or not, we cannot answer, what we can do is make effort and improve at a constant speed, until everyone around confirms our talents and results, that is probably the time when we are called smart investors

I'd still want to say that we still need books. Even if we have google, we can't tell if all of the content is credible. This is why many academics discourage the use of internet sources. When I was in college, there were times when papers were discredited just because the sources were from the internet. Almost anyone can upload information on the internet -- so you can't just say that it's scholarly. Even a 10 year old could use the internet nowadays.

The internet is full of useful information, yes, but we can't well say that its enough to make us intelligent.
158  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: What is good for me? on: March 12, 2019, 11:54:28 PM
I suggest you create a LinkedIn account to establish your legitimacy, as you've said since there are many scams out there. Build your portfolio so that you become well known to others.
I'm not so familiar with other platforms where photoshop and video services are featured, but this could be a good place to start. As already suggested by those who replied on this thread, post in the services section of this forum. There are many others there who posted their own services thread with their porfolios, so you should check them out. I suggest you showcase a few samples, such as this signature design thread. Make it pleasing to the eye so that you can catch the attention of potential clients.
159  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: A local crypto project at my university to attract newbies on: March 12, 2019, 05:08:02 AM
Hey, I suggest you look into this site or this thread to add to your teaching material. You may be able to use some of the videos or guides mentioned there. Its condensed into various topics so it's easy to navigate. There are some books and news sites also cited on the website which you can use. I think you'll find most basic topics which a first timer crypto-user should get there hands on/should know about.
You can showcase some of the documentaries to the members of your project, I sometimes understand better by watching videos so this may be of help for those who are able to learn better through visual aids.

Kudos to your project, mate. Hope it works out.  Grin
160  Local / Pilipinas / Re: Crypto In The Phillipines Doesn't Have Any Progress on: March 12, 2019, 03:43:34 AM
As I was observing on our community, there hasn't been much change on this economy regards on crypto. Especially when the BTC value continues to fall last December and upto the current time.
There has been a less number right now of participants here in the philippines compared to the previous year of 2017. Some thinks that it wasn't worth their time to stay for long and wait until the rise of CoinKing.

Maybe you think that I'm wrong, because of some news that politicians are creating their coins or even making an investment on this digital money. But have you consider that this person is only another one individual. It really doesnt affect much on our current economy. It really is hard to explain and convince other people to use digital currency especially in this kind of time.

Traders are now losing their money, Holders are sleeping beauties as of now. And together with our economy, it maybe on digital or the reality,... there is no improvement at all.

P.S. No Useless Replies Please Such As Short Phrases.

We're on a bear trend, so you can't really much blame them. Most of those who rode on the hype last 2017 will inevitably become discouraged. Once bitcoin suddenly became popular, the price then went down so for those who just found out about it by then will quickly lose interest. But IMO, the Philippines has actually become progressive with regards to crypto. Just recently, CEZA (Cagayan Economic Zone Authority) has made some actions for cryptocurrency regulation. You can read this article. They just issued new rules on acquiring cryptocurrency assets.

Read from the article:
Quote
CEZA is moving forward with its goal to develop the economic zone as the center of fintech firms in Southeast and Northeast Asia. The economic zone authority has already approved and issued provisional principal offshore virtual currency exchange licenses to 19 companies engaged in the blockchain ecosystem industries.
