362  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Newb - Is mining worth it with a low budget? on: January 15, 2016, 03:02:43 PM
Hello BitcoinTalk!

I'm quite new here. I've read a few thread and I was honestly wondering if bitcoin mining is worth it anymore with a small budget.

I've got a GTX 980 ti, and I know GPU mining has been efficient in the past, but ASIC miners are the main bitcoin mining hardware nowadays.

So, if I'd mine bitcoin with my GPU, would it be worth it, at all?

Thanks,
A

If your incentive is to make profit, then don't go into bitboin, rather buy some cloud mining and buy some bitcoins directly.
When you want to learn about mining, my advice would be to buy a cheap S1/S3 miner and experience it.

I disagree. Don't touch cloud mining or S1's.

If you want to learn, get something like sidekicks 15gh/s usb sticks. Only about 5w each.

Allows you to learn about mining while not paying a fortune for electricity. Will actually make a small profit if you pool mine, but most are buying a few and using them as solo lottery miners as they are such low power.

There's nothing you can do about people reselling the sticks unfortunately, let's just ignore it.

Are these still worth it where can we buy?

Yes they are available, PM sidekick. They are worth it if you want a the best USB miner on the market today to play with! Smiley

Thanks both. Drew_ii recommended to plug the 3.0 into a 2.0 hub first then to the Pi so will do that.

Is 900ma enough for 15GH?

So just get a decent USB 3.0 powered hub?

Should work with an original Pi B right?
368  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: GekkoScience Compac BM1384 Stickminer Official Support Thread on: January 12, 2016, 10:57:53 AM
Read though a few of these threads but can't find a clear answer.

What's the best way to power 4 of these at around 15GH each? From what I understand I need a hub that can output more than 500ma? If so how much more?

Are there any cheaper decent hubs available or can I just use a Y cable and a bog standard hub?

If there is a small production, I will do a group buy for Canada  Grin

Great job Sidehack as always

I'd say I'd do a group buy for Europe, but you may want to use bitshopper.de for the pods too ?

He'll add VAT and profit, I'd rather you do it Smiley

bitshopper.de actually was pretty good when I tried to get one in the US.  I wanted to collect them all on compac's.  He went above and beyond to get me one for decent of the EU compacs.

I don't think you will avoid VAT if you live in EU, but I could be wrong.

I don't doubt his customer service, I'd just rather a group buy as I know it would be cheaper, that's all.

Lol, It's the old spelling for Bazaar. Google & dictionaries note it as still being correct http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/bazar

However in its English pronunciation it will be pronounced as "Bazar"(Buzzer with an active r sound) and "Bazaar" will be completely a different pronunciation.I doubt it will have a resell have because the words don't convey the same meaning.

It's the same meaning and pronunciation. It sounds like ba-zar not bazza.

Here's the proof:

Happy new year and keep up the good work! It's nice to know there's someone out there building miners for those who don't want 1000+ watt monsters

^This!
