141  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] 15 Sets of Attractive Stamps - Ends Sunday, 18th. on: February 15, 2018, 02:53:23 PM
i'm no philatelist, but my understanding is that stamps aren't worth a lot once used, they only remain valuable until they are attached to an envelope? please let me know as It isn't something that I am knowledgeable in

It's true that there's a general tendency for stamps being more valuable unused, however there are numerous exceptions to this tendency. There are cases where used (stamped) stamps are significantly more valuable than unused ones (for example if the stamp was only valid for a limited period of time).

The general valuation difference between unused and used stamps is not so huge that a statement like "used stamps are worth almost nothing" is warranted. The overall difference actually tends to be smaller with more modern stamps - presumably because collector's services emerged, where every collector can easily order unused stamps via subscription.

Besides that, the per-stamp-price for this auction is fairly low. (Personally I prefer to collect used stamps, because it is a sign of their historical significance as an object of utility. It makes no sense to me to collect things that were only produced for collectors and did not see real world use.) I will put up auctions with unused stamps as well when I had the time to wade through my collection again... so if you're only interested in unused stamps you can check back later.
142  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] 15 Sets of Attractive Stamps - Ends Sunday, 18th. on: February 15, 2018, 02:18:34 PM
To get this running and to help Bitcoin starting its engines again I'm throwing in another set for the first bidder Cheesy:

Upon successful completion of the auction (i.e. the winning bidder has paid and received the stamps) the first bidder will receive this set for free, regardless if he/she won the auction or not. (Obviously, if the first bidder is also the winning bidder, he/she will receive this set for free together with the other sets.)

In addition, the winning bidder of this auction will receive one free set of my Cold War coins from Eastern Germany: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1876762.0

146  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Controversial Artwork "Skin in the Game" - Ended without valid bid. on: February 12, 2018, 11:42:16 AM
4 hours left.

keep on trying son.. but It looks like I was right and you are wrong..

the market is saturated with shit right now.. far too many people are pumping out pieces.

I don't recall we exchanged any argument about "right" and "wrong" in relation to the artwork or my intention of offering it here. But I'm glad you feel like you are "right", if this feeling is important to you.

I'll go ahead and bid 0.001BTC but rather than you sending me this piece I'd like it if you could donate it to any of your local establishments, and update the thread once done with a picture of it hanging at a wall or so. The establishment is up to you, I won't mind if it is a slaughter house or a fancy restaurant.. Perhaps a gallery or something else?

If you accept, I'll honor my bid.

Thank you for your good intentions, but I can not accept this conditional bid. The whole point in selling my artwork is (1) showcasing my work and (2) maybe finding someone who appreciates it and is willing to pay to own it for him/herself because of that. If there is nobody in this forum who does, then the artwork won't be sold. That's no problem.

(Besides I already had a request for the artwork from one of my friends. So I will either keep it for myself or gift it to my friend.)

149  Other / Meta / Re: Please add information regarding Copper, Gold (Silver?) Memberships on: February 05, 2018, 04:07:18 PM
You posted what I already know. The other link does by no means indicate that there is no gold membership.

There is no gold member or silver member. They are custom titles which some users are capable of setting.
Read about the 50BTC donation: https://bitcointalk.org/donate.html

Thanks for the clarification.

There are some members who got a custom title without donating 50btc. Regardless, there is certainly not a gold or silver membership you can buy... at the moment.

This must be the case, because hilariousandco is not on the donator's list. Maybe all moderators?
150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The real reason behind the decline of Bitcoin and all other Altcoins on: February 05, 2018, 04:03:29 PM
Are you looking for the real reason behind the massive declines we've seen recently?

The answer is 2 words = Interest Rate.

The US is going to keep on raising it and investors are looking for save haven that pays sure dividends ... so the US Dollar that everyone has buried in the last decade is outperforming all the Cryptos, and soon the EUR/USD will hit a parity (it's $1.25 now, it won't stay like this for a long time).

History always repeats itself, one way or another.

I don't think so at all.

The USD is in a longterm downtrend and has most recently devalued against the EUR and other currencies despite the prospect of rising interest rates. Calling the USD a safe haven is totally misguided. the most important traditional safe haven is gold - which during the last few months has increased in value against the USD as well.

The influence of interest rates on crypto valuation is close to zero. The most probable real reasons behind the current correction are:

1. Normalization of an overheated market (more than 10x increase in USD valuation during 2017)

2. US banks restricting credit card purchases of cryptos
151  Other / Meta / Re: Please add information regarding Copper, Gold (Silver?) Memberships on: February 05, 2018, 03:49:11 PM
By popular demand, newbies can now pay to have some of their restrictions lifted. If you pay the fee, you become a Copper Member, and you can post images. That's the main point of this: allowing newbies to post images. Additionally (and these might change depending on how things go), Copper Members currently have these bonuses:

Link to this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2385104.msg24371150#msg24371150

And it seems there is no such thing as gold member. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=2472518.0

You posted what I already know. The other link does by no means indicate that there is no gold membership.
152  Other / Meta / Please add information regarding Copper, Gold (Silver?) Memberships on: February 05, 2018, 03:32:51 PM
I recently noticed some members having an additional Copper / Gold member status.

While I found out that copper membership is an option for Newbies to pay a small fee for certain privileges (esp. posting images) I still have no clue what a gold member is. Maybe there exists a silver membership as well?

It would be very nice to have this information added to one of the stickied threads dealing with ranks here.

EDIT:

Du zahlst also Bestechungsgelder für Merits (siehe Deine Signatur)?
154  Local / Off-Topic (Deutsch) / Re: hunger in Venezuela, spendenaktion on: February 03, 2018, 01:58:13 PM

155  Local / Trading und Spekulation / Re: Der Aktuelle Kursverlauf on: February 03, 2018, 01:50:51 PM
156  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Artwork "Skin in the Game" - Ends Sunday, 11th of February on: February 02, 2018, 01:55:38 PM
Thanks for the images, definitely an interesting piece that seems different from what you've normally done.

Thank you! I'm well aware that this doesn't fit the expectations of the majority of the collector folk here. But I head a great time creating it - so there's no reason not to share it.

I like the name but this artwork is near my understanding limit of art....I tried to focus but all I see is this

- img -

Good luck with your auction  Wink

Hehe, so you're definitely not into abstract art... Smiley

Frankly.....  This side looks the best.. In MY OPINION.. merit

- img -

Because of the x-men crest?? Me too

Nice that you like the backside as well. But this is not a merit begging thread... Cheesy
157  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Artwork "Skin in the Game" - Ends Sunday, 11th of February on: January 31, 2018, 06:53:18 PM
I really don't care for it.  I am not sure what the game is.

Having "skin in the game" is an idiom used by parts of the financial community.

I might go get my feet done, save the skank foot skin shavings, glue them to a satori chip and try and sell it. If I did that it would still sell for more than this piece

Then go ahead and do it.

I wouldn't do it as it is an insult to the collectors here... but again it is better than this piece as I have said..

I think it's a great accomplishment of my artwork that you feel that the collectors here are insulted by offering it. Smiley

Edit: Updated the thread title to reflect this.
158  Economy / Collectibles / Re: [AUCTION] Artwork "Skin in the Game" - Ends Sunday, 11th of February on: January 31, 2018, 06:48:24 PM
Good luck with your sale Smiley

Thank you. Actually it is not really important for me if it sells or for what amount - as I have stated in my previous auction thread, the act of creating an artwork alone is enjoyable for me. And if it is able to evoke whatever kind of emotions when shared it's even better. Smiley
