161  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The Barry Silbert segwit agreement with >80% miner agreement. on: May 26, 2017, 02:02:17 PM
Someone, please remind me why we need any size limit in 2017; when CPUs are pushing 100 GFLOPS and GPUs are pushing 10k, surely more can be processed than produced...
Why are we still sitting with a 2011 mentality?  Huh

It's been 4 days since I restarted my Bitcoin node (in order to make a configuration change) and I've uploaded 300 gigabytes of data to peers since then. I'm on track to upload over 2 terabytes this month.

A block size increase will increase the bandwidth required to run a full node.

Increasing the bandwidth required to run a full node will certainly reduce the amount of full nodes. It's up to the user to decide if that is desirable or not.

You're right, bitcoin is not a currency. It's a payment network.

I'd call it a "distributed truth ledger".
163  Economy / Speculation / Re: Wall Observer BTC/USD - Bitcoin price movement tracking & discussion on: May 26, 2017, 03:40:28 AM
$600 price spread (so far) in a single day, or 22% drop.  Nice pump and dump guys.

lol, look who's back? the second we get a little dump you dare to speak out again.  Grin

I'm not fond of rising prices on constantly decreasing USD volume on both Bitstamp and Finex.  That's the textbook definition of a roach motel:

Finex:

Bitstamp:

"Smart money" is definitely not buying in such a situation.  All the large players who actually want bitcoin already own bitcoin, hence why there is no volume.  Now it's just a giant CNBC Jim Cramer mad money scheme of trying to find some random guy in the public to dump on at more than you paid.

That looks like bitcoinity.org to me. The volume bars default to bitcoin (mBTC in fact) on bitcoinity.org and it appears that you haven't changed it. Here is the same BitStamp chart after changing volume to USD.

164  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What do you think? on: May 25, 2017, 06:03:33 AM
Everyone can benefit from censorship-proof transactions and a seize-proof store of value.

Depends on your jurisdiction.

If there was an exchange I trusted, I believe I would slowly start selling a few coins at this point with the intentions of buying them back for less in the future.

Since no such thing exists, I can't do my small part to help flatten the spikes in the exchange rate, which I have been well trained to believe are inevitable at some point.

Oh well... I'll watch the rallies with nervous jubilation and endure the troll infested bear markets with quiet disgust... from over here, in my corner... all cozy in my straitjacket.
168  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Armory unable to send bitcoins on: May 25, 2017, 05:11:13 AM
Armory doesn't have that functionality any longer. All "phone home" code has been removed by goatpig.

Check the top stickied thread in this sub forum for the latest version. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1896808.0

Update to the latest version of Armory.
170  Other / Meta / Re: Boycott the scary censorship here. on: May 24, 2017, 04:48:49 AM
This thread belongs in Meta, since it's about the forum itself. You should move it yourself before sensor ships.

There is a user here who posts a new anti-Core, pro-BU thread every day without fail, sometimes multiple threads per day. Then a few of his pals come in to pat his back and remind us how evil Core is.

If what you are saying is true, this wouldn't be happening. So, I call bullshit.

I, personally, think the moderation here is entirely too lenient and a bunch of shit-stirrers would be banished to a child board for shit-stirrers if I had my way. Oh, sig spam would be grounds for perma-ban as well.

But, by all means, boycott away.
171  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Ethereum is Now the Most Secure Public Blockchain, Overtaking Bitcoin on: May 21, 2017, 07:43:14 PM
This is VERY relevant to the scaling debate. All the arguments of "Bitcoin doesn't need to be a payment network because it will be the digital gold of crypto with the highest security" went right out the window.

Has anyone ever used Ethereum to pay for anything?

So you are trying to tell us that something which isn't being used as a payment network is going to overtake Bitcoin because Bitcoin is a poor payment network.

You better stick to begging favors from your pool operator overlords, jonald.

oh so NOW you say being a payment network is important.

What happened to your digital gold theory?

Huh? I elaborated on your argument. I made none of my own. Are you losing it man?

My digital gold theory? I don't know what you are talking about.

My opinion is that Bitcoin excels at censorship-proof transactions and as a seize-proof store of value and it doesn't make sense to use it when censorship or seizure isn't a concern.

Gold is poor at both of those things due to it's physical nature (which all the gold bugs are quick to claim as one of it's most important properties).

173  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: ArmoryDB.exe has stopped working on: May 19, 2017, 03:34:22 PM
ive uninstalled and reinstalled, but the same issue happened. How can I redownload just the chain or use a new copy?

You'll need to delete the block chain files in your Bitcoin folder.
174  Bitcoin / Armory / Re: Stolen BTC? on: May 19, 2017, 02:48:15 PM
So to be clear, there's no way I'll regain access to the BTC without downloading the entire ledger?

You can extract the private keys and import them into a different wallet at any point in time.
175  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin becoming so god damn slow? on: May 16, 2017, 05:35:26 AM
with that said I strongly disagree with what holiday and QuestionAuthority are trying to convince others about. bitcoin is not some millionaires' money to just move around their $20,000 around the world.

I never suggested such a thing.

Bitcoin's use case is obvious. When other forms of value transfer or value storage are censored, Bitcoin is clearly the logical choice.

Governments around the world continue to implement increasingly onerous capital controls with no hint of stopping or even slowing down. Bitcoin is the answer.

It's ridiculous to think that a solution which requires storing every single transaction in it's history forever is going to be useful for daily, mundane purchases (at least as far as on-chain transactions are concerned).
176  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is there a solution to hackers using Bitcoins for ransoms? on: May 16, 2017, 05:26:21 AM
Secure your computers and back up your data?
177  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin becoming so god damn slow? on: May 16, 2017, 04:52:29 AM
If we want bitcoin to be widely adopted it should be simple enough that anyone can use it efficiently.

If you want the freedom that Bitcoin provides, you need to take the responsibility to learn to use it properly. There are no shortcuts.
178  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin becoming so god damn slow? on: May 16, 2017, 04:50:33 AM
You guys aren't ready for mainstream adoption. Now sit back and let better crypto currencies come to the front.

LOL.

Mainstream adoption of any cryptocurrency simply isn't going to happen any time soon.

Have you ever talked to a "regular" person about computers? They are fucking clueless. You expect them to be custodians of money that requires at least a general grasp of computer security? Pfft...

The only way the mainstream is going to use cryptocurrency any time soon is through a third party custodian, and just like that the entire purpose is lost.

Let's not even get into the fact that the average debt slave can't even write a $500 check in an emergency. You seriously think they have money to blow on disruptive technology?

Oh, they are also clueless about money, in general, as well. They don't have the slightest inkling about how the fiat garbage they use every day works. Gold bugs and silver stackers are probably the best targets for adoption and most of them are downright hostile to the idea of cryptocurrency.

Mainstream adoption... LMAO. Keep dreamin'!
179  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin becoming so god damn slow? on: May 15, 2017, 06:01:52 PM
So a person wanting to use the currency must more or less be some kind of wallsreet trading expert and follow the market fees daily to use this to pay every now and again, gotcha.

paid 1$ for a 130$ transaction, seems fair enough, banks take less and its instant

absolute horrorshow.

God forbid you should bother simply checking a website before making a transaction.

https://bitcoinfees.21.co/

Bitcoin is censorship-proof. Banks require permission. A centralized solution should always be more efficient than a decentralized one.

Clearly you, along with many others, have been spoiled by the early days of Bitcoin when there was far less competition to append the block chain.
180  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why is bitcoin becoming so god damn slow? on: May 15, 2017, 05:37:20 PM
You don't know how to use Bitcoin obviously. All my transactions confirm in the next block.

Bitcoin isn't suited for micro-transactions. If you are using Bitcoin to send a dollar, you are going to have a bad time.
