61  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Ħ [HODL] 5% Interest. No Staking Req. Term Deposits 10%. Solo Mining. on: November 07, 2017, 06:43:34 PM
Yes. Where is @DisasterFaster? According to quotas below he is a talented guy.

I contacted FreeTrade about 1 - 2 weeks ago. He added dns seed to the source code and hoped that the new website will be up and running in next January.

I like the idea of active web page. Too many coins have a static web page. I would like to people see that we trying to help them. Guides and FAQs are important. I'm quite new to cryptocurrencies and I would have liked to see more info at web pages. Instead of centralized info I had hundreds of pages forum threads. Hodlcoin should be easy for beginners.

I was thinking about integrating pool mining to wallet but maybe guide how to start pool mining is better. Should we host our own pool?

I would love to hear the community opinion on this but my preference is no pool mining but solo mining only....

I'm afraid of that "solo mining only". When using pool you get coins everyday. I like to check my wallet every day and make deposits. Some how it is addicting and fun. Even if you don't have much CPU power you still get steady income. Even kids can mine some coins after school and see those coins in their wallets. No need to be mega miner if you don't want to. Easy to start.

My Monero wallet is much much more valuable than Hooldcoin wallet. I still prefer Hodlcoin. Monero is not interesting to mine. Payment thresholds are 0.3 - 1.0 XMR. This takes weeks or months. I should have got my 0.3 XMR (28$). I have not opened my Monero wallet since... I don't remenber. I demonstrated Hodlcoin to one of my friends. It was easy and he had some coins in his wallet in no time. Suprnova pool takes some time to configure. optiminer.pl is easier. I would like to see a GUI for hodlminer.exe.

Hodlcoin doesn't need Asics or GPUs. Basic CPU is enough so Hodlcoin should be easy enough for basic users.

Monero was profitable until it became popular , in the last 100 days the global hashrate doubled and the difficulty trippled, mostly due to Korea listing it on their exchange, when a coin becomes popular it attracts more miners, the global hashrate increases to a point where solominers wont be making much.. this is the normal lifecycle of all non-POS altcoins... And that is excluding the impact of botnets who essentially mine with stolen equipment.

To Disasterfaster and fishmaster, from a technical point of view the challenges of taking over hodlcoin are going to be:
- block explorer
- seed nodes
- Faucet site ( on testnet and mainnet ) to help new people ? there was a good one on mainnet.
- ability to built wallet for windows / linux / macosX , right now only Fuzz knows how to do it, using his computing resources. ( I only know how to build the linux wallet ).
- exchanges ( yes rebranding is needed ).
- more developers needed !!
   - technical topics needing to be discussed:
      1 - payement gateway , needed if you ever want to see light-wallet type apps use Hodl , look at existing api's see if we can integrate
      2 - Freetrade HIP002 proposal , https://medium.com/@freetrade68/hodlcoin-improvement-proposal-002-adf802d2ccb7
      3 - The size of the blockchain and the wallet load time ( for me its 5 mins ).
      4 - the automation , speed at which we can make new wallets / releases ( volunteer QA people )
- The official website with download links to official software
- Official youtube / twitter / slack channel or telegraph ?
And finally partnerships with like-minded projects.

Your right it needs a leader with fire in their belly , but it also needs a lot of time and energy  ,people forgot sometimes this isn't our main payed job Wink

  • block explorer - I can build and self host this at the new website no problem.
  • seed nodes - I currently have seed nodes running in San Francisco, London, Singapore and Kansas City so I see no issue taking care of this.
  • faucet site - I don't see a big issue with this and I would hope the community could donate up some coins for faucet(s).
  • ability to built wallet for windows / linux / macosX - I can do all of that compiling myself no problem there.
  • exchanges - I am already working on a new logo. I am willing to help fund new/additional exchange listings.
  • more developers needed - True that but honestly I think I can handle this and I do have in-house help.

1 - payment gateway , needed if you ever want to see light-wallet type apps use Hodl , look at existing api's see if we can integrate.

I agree on this and it would be a more medium to long range goal.

2 - Freetrade HIP002 proposal , https://medium.com/@freetrade68/hodlcoin-improvement-proposal-002-adf802d2ccb7

I think this would be an improvement and not really difficult to code.

3 - The size of the blockchain and the wallet load time ( for me its 5 mins ).

Another area for improvement and I would love to hear suggestions on how to best achieve this.

4 - the automation , speed at which we can make new wallets / releases ( volunteer QA people )

More help would sure be nice but I think things can be done quickly enough.

5 - The official website with download links to official software.

Once the logo is ready I can have the site up and running ready to go within about 2 weeks.

6- Official youtube / twitter / slack channel or telegraph ?

I would say YouTube is mandatory for a location for tutorial and marketing videos. Plus that I can market YouTube videos for about .06 USD per video view. Facebook would also be mandatory and there I can market videos for about .02 per view. Twitter is okay and can have a coin page there no problem. As far as slack/telegraph I am confident once you see the site I am going to build the coin site will have this function integrated. The new site will have community groups, live chat, discussion board, and blog.

Good to see you in here inputting. I know you've been very involved in this coin and I really hope you'll continue to be an active member of the community. Quick question, have you been getting paid to do coding work on the coin or did you donate this? Would you be interested in doing coding work going forward either donating your time or in exchange for pay?

Someone can give me a new hodlcoin block file Sad.

http://hodlcoin.oo.fi/blocks/2017-11-03/

I created the bootstrap.dat in Windows by running commans 'copy /b blk*.dat bootstrap.dat' . Try if it works.

You simply need to place the bootstrap.dat in your %appdata%\HOdlcoin folder, (on linux/unix in your .hodlcoin folder) the file will be renamed bootstrap.dat.old when the data import is complete.
https://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/13241/importing-all-blkxxxxxx-dat

EDIT:
I tried bootstrap.dat and it did not load all blocks. It's better to copy blk00000.dat and blk00001.dat to blocks folder (default folder C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\HOdlcoin\blocks) and run

hodlcoin-qt.exe -reindex

EDIT 2:
Sorry! Technical problems with server. All downloads stall.

Try this link.

Good night everybody. I was triying to sell my mined Hodl coins in Yobit and when I tryed to make a deposit it said to me that it wasnšt posible. So I writed the suport from Yobit , and they answered me this:
Deposit\\Withdrawal coin will be available after you upgrade the source code of the wallet.
- therefore, in order to avoid the loss of users, the network is not available.
If you have updated the source code of the coin, send us (https://yobit.net/en/maintenance_request/ Free)and we will promptly correct the problem on the coin.
Thank you for contacted the support.
Does anybody, knows the source code so I can send it to Yobit.
The more places you can exchange it the higher the price will go.
Thank you and good bye.

Thanks for sharing. Meanwhile use Coinexchange.io https://www.coinexchange.io/market/HODL/BTC .

More people should learn to code or attract coders like from community colleges, etc. to good projects.

The code is here:

https://github.com/HOdlcoin/HOdlcoin

I am interested in encouraging and learning because there doesn't seem to be much discussion of code in many threads I'm on.   I have a C++ background but not sure how much time I have for compiling on my machine.  This could be a good thread to revive other projects that are slow right now.  What compiler do most use these days, etc.

You can join Hodlcoin Telegram group https://t.me/HOdlcoin1 . We are discussing about developement in our group.

Hodlcoin IRC channel #hodlcoin is on Freenode network.

There is an user called Tecra who has been asking how to enable AES-NI and AVX2 optimization for wallet mining. I have tried to answer that question but Tecra has quit #hodlcoin before I wrote a reply.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1317918.msg19564195#msg19564195

Start your wallet with parameters -optimineraes=1 and -optimineravx2=1
"hodlcoin-qt.exe -optimineraes=1 -optimineravx2=1"

Or locate and create if needed hodlcoin.conf (default location C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\HOdlcoin ) and add lines
optimineraes=1
optimineravx2=1

In debug.log there should be lines like
2017-06-13 06:37:15 Optiminer Flags: AES-NI = 1, AVX2 = 1
2017-06-13 06:37:15 Optiminer Flags and CPU support: AES-NI = 1, AVX2 = 1

Users have been reporting that optimineravx2=1 is not working.

I've had the wallet open for a couple of days now and it's still stuck at 1 year and 37 weeks behind; so it doesn't appear that the wallet is sinking?

That means I have about 100 or so coins currently up in the air without me being able to use the wallet functions such as the HODL, and I'd really like to be able to HODL everything I get...

does anyone have a download for the blockchain? Or any solutions?

How many active connections you have to the network?

Try this. Copy new addresses from coinexchange.io.

Nice to hear from dev.

Thought this was dead :-)

My wallet sync's up just fine btw.

EDIT:
Is it any help to the HODL comunity if I leave my wallet open?
I am currently seeing 8 active connections in my wallet. Am I then one of them?

When you leave open wallet you help other people to quickly download blockchain. You can leave wallet open but just use password for wallet.

Ok. I have encryptet my wallet of course. So I will leave it open as much as I can for the sake of the comunity :-)

Your wallet will make max 8 connections to the network. You need to have port 1989 open if you want allow other users to connect your node. Here https://www.yougetsignal.com/tools/open-ports/ you can check if port 1989 is open. From debug window (Help->Debug window) you see if you have incoming connections.

HODL Dev why not buy support this coin?When Price goes up? I think coin totaly ded now.......!!!!!

There have been big buy orders. At the monent, at average price 0,00000027 you can sell 754000 coins. I'm trying to buy some coins before new releases and website which might be coming soon.

I'm testing "GPU mining" by using Nicehash. I use overlocked GTX1050 Ti. NiceHash reports that my daily estimate is 0.00011 BTC. I can buy 1 kH/s per day per 0.0001 BTC. So hash speed of GTX1050 Ti is about 1000 H/s.  The problem is that minumum order is 0.005 BTC.

GPU mining for HODL? You probably mine some other GPU mineable coin and then you get conversion to HODL.

Yes. NiceHash miner selects most profitable GPU algorithm. Pays BTC. Then I buy hashing power for Hodlcoin pool. https://www.nicehash.com/marketplace/hodl .

Its simpler to buy some HODL like i did Smiley And for 0.005 BTC you can buy estimate 15-17k hodl.

I agree Smiley

My total order is 0.010864 BTC. Fee is 0.00043600 BTC. Price was 0.0001 BTC per kH per day. For one day that would be (0.010864-0.00043600)/0.0001 = 104.28 kH/s

With difficulty 0.002885 this calculator https://bitmakler.net/HOdlcoin___mining gives about 36258 Hodlcoins

With current market price is 0.00000040 BTC, 0.010864 BTC would buy 27000 coins. Thats quite high market price. Price 0.00000028 would equl to 38800 coins.

Most of the time it's cheaper to buy coins from markets. At the price peaks buying hash power might be profitable if hashing power price is still 0.0001 BTC/kh/day.

PS.
I made my hashing power order too late. Difficulty is now about 0.0033 http://www.fuzzbawls.pw/explore/HOdlcoin/index.php . It was lower than average for some time. Difficulty 0.0033 would give about 31600 coins.

We have the Apple Mininig Monitor App available now for our pool, it is linked on the poolpage too:

http://music.minerpool.net

Every feedback is welcome.

What is the pay out threshold? If I mine with GTX1050 does it takes how many days to get coins to my wallet?

I chose your pool because you have a working example fot genoil's ethminer.
Windows CUDA
    ethminer.exe --farm-recheck 200 -U -S music.minerpool.net:8009 -SP 1 -O 0xd4f31ec6c958dc0409314510e49fff35c193e83c.rig1

PS
What Is the most efficient miner for GTX1050 or GTX1060?

1.-  Threshold 10 Music
2.- Less than a day.
3.- Try and compare (claymore, ethminer, etc...), see devfee

Thanks.

Claymore's miner reports 15.7 MH/s for my GTX1050Ti. MSI Afterburner: 80 % (Power limit), +122 (Core), +1000 (Memrory).

who's your cards makers? im at %50 PL, core -200 and memory +750.
i would suggest reducing your core alot, it only burns power and doesnt yield enough performance to justify the heat. memory seems ok.

Asus GeForce GTX 1050ti 4Gt GDDR5. I'll lower my core clock. I have quite accurate power meter so I'll take some measurements.

1. Fix the sync problems. Wallets doesn't find new nodes.

manual update Hodlcoin.conf ( all crypto ). Currently the community is old :p die  or sleep.. about new nodes ^^
no prob sync for now wallet 3.0.1 OK

Do your Windows wallet search new nodes? My Windows wallet can find only hardcoded nodes and nodes in hodlcoin.conf. Finding new nodes fails. I think Windows wallets are broken. Compilation problem?

I run my dedicated Linux node with -churn parameter and it finds atleast 30 nodes. MAX_OUTBOUND_CONNECTIONS is 8 by default but with -churn and -outboundconnections parameters you can make it higher.

/hodlcoin-cli getconnectioncount gives 37. I have many inbound connections.

Code:
void setChurnMode(int outboundconnections){
    churnNode=true;
    MAX_OUTBOUND_CONNECTIONS = outboundconnections;
}
https://github.com/HOdlcoin/HOdlcoin/blob/HODLCoin0.11.3/src/net.cpp

Code:
    int isChurn = GetArg("-churn", 0);
    if(isChurn){
        int outboundconnections = GetArg("-outboundconnections", 50);
        setChurnMode(outboundconnections);
}
https://github.com/HOdlcoin/HOdlcoin/blob/HODLCoin0.11.3/src/init.cpp

I just installed Linux wallet and after some time the outbound connection count is 8. Wallet is requesting node addressed fron other nodes. https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Satoshi_Client_Node_Discovery#Ongoing_.22addr.22_advertisements

(I wrote this message before messages on page 239 was written)

Below is a recap of develepoment ideas.

My suggestions.

1. Fix the syncin proglems. Wallets doesn't find new nodes.
1.2 DNS seeders/crawlers like https://github.com/sipa/bitcoin-seeder
2. New more active web page with tutorials and faqs. Stuff like this
"HOdlcoin already has greater capacity than Bitcoin due to more frequent blocks. Following the implementation of this HIP, HOdlcoin will have a capacity of 116 times that of Bitcoin. " should be advertised.
https://medium.com/@freetrade68/hodlcoin-improvement-proposal-001-a802f9948d68
3. Make wallet app start up faster.
4. Bittrex?
5. Own pool?

I don't know about all technical details but I would like to see Hodlcoin to be most easiest way to the world of cryptocurrencies. Kindergarten teachers shoudl be able to mine and send coins without problems.

HOdl coin discussion and I need input from the community please...

  • New Website Domain Name: How about hodl-coin.com? ( wow what if FReeTrade would transfer the existing domain? )
  • When I do the fork do we want to make any changes to the coin?
  • Do we want to change the logo?
  • Do we want to change the ticker?
  • The new block explorer I will self host at the coin's new website.
  • The new seed nodes I will provide at multiple co-locations.
  • What new exchanges would you want me to pay for the coin to be listed at?
  • I think the new website should include an exchange section to buy/sell/swap the coin?
  • I think I need to produce a road map graphic of this coins forward agenda.
  • Do you think this thread is good or should a new one be started?

The new website I have my head wrapped around it. Here are my thoughts. First off alt coins need to not be about the coin but rather about the community. An altcoin is nothing without its community. (period) The new site I have in my mind a kind of Facebook clone. It will have a streaming wall like Facebook where members can post text, photos, videos etc. Posts can be shared, commented liked etc. Also the site will have groups that can be created and joined both closed groups and open groups. The site will have live chat for person to person or group chat as well. The site should have a discussion board something like what we have here but also a blog section. Members should add threads to the discussion board and also be able to create blog posts.

The community site should be focused on the community of HOdl coin but past that it's not HOdl only. In other words as altcoin peeps we have many other interests in terms of other coins, crypto in general and even general discussion. Thusly the website should be a community environment where we are free to discuss all of the things that interest us.

Last but not least I've noted a few posts here that are very derogatory to the original developer FreeTrade. IMHO I think this is negative energy. FreeTrade has done no evil but rather has devoted a good deal of cash, labor, blood sweat and tears to this coin and with that being said this is a great coin and as a devoted community we will work together to make it much better. Look at the details.... no premine, no instamine, the recent code development at github and the list goes on. My suggestion is that we should be thankful to FreeTrade for his contributions to get us where we are today! Bad mouthing and talking poorly of the original developer will not help this coin to get better trust me.

You read this now start talking. This coin is moving forward centered on the community. I need to hear what you have to say so... yeah just start talking!

I like the idea of active web page. Too many coins have a static web page. I would like to people see that we trying to help them. Guides and FAQs are important.

Looks like many alt coins use modified Bitcoin seeder https://github.com/sipa/bitcoin-seeder . If that was forked for Hodlcoin we could easily run DNS seeders. DisasterFaster might run one for us?

All legitimate questions.

I'll add some stuff.

-Keep the humor of HOdlcoin moving forward

-New website

-Delete Youtube promo vid (and now somewhat superfluous references to bitcoin)

-Establish official discord/slack and telegram

-Do more to show how the coin is special

-More communication with FreeTrade

-Possible hardfork (if possible without chain-split) featuring improvements/features

-New wallets (maybe light wallets also) and "mobile" wallets

-Look into more exchanges and consider how to best position/prepare HODL for approval

Let's throw some ideas around Smiley

Anyone who has a reliable node at a fixed ip address, please message me if you'd like me to point the a dns addresses at your node to help with keeping the network robust for new users to get started.

I've always been a Windows user, and have limited experience with Linux. With that said do you all think it would be more beneficial to mine on Linux system oppose to Windows system?

I have not tested if there is any performance difference. I use Windows 10 and Debian for mining. Windows 10 is my workstation and Debian my server. I like Linux because I use SSH to connect my server.

Is this coin still has any future? I mean isn't it dead yet?
I have mined quite a bit of it, but just wondering is there any perspectives here...  Roll Eyes

I'm quite new to bitcoin, hodlcoin etc networks but I'm trying to learn more.

Looks like there is no DNS Seeds. Hodlcoin wallet has hardcoded "DNS seeds" but those seeds are actually just nodes. Only westcoast.hodlcoin.com and eastcoast.hodlcoin.com are working.
Code:
vSeeds.push_back(CDNSSeedData("westcoast.hodlcoin.com", "westcoast.hodlcoin.com")); //West Coast
vSeeds.push_back(CDNSSeedData("eastcoast.hodlcoin.com", "eastcoast.hodlcoin.com"));//East Coast
vSeeds.push_back(CDNSSeedData("europe.hodlcoin.com", "europe.hodlcoin.com")); //Europe
vSeeds.push_back(CDNSSeedData("asia.hodlcoin.com", "asia.hodlcoin.com"));//Asia
vSeeds.push_back(CDNSSeedData("174.140.166.133","174.140.166.133"));//Hodl-lay-yee-hoo
vSeeds.push_back(CDNSSeedData("54.201.171.55", "54.201.171.55"));
vSeeds.push_back(CDNSSeedData("54.213.104.91", "54.213.104.91"));

DNS seed should give a list of node addresses like bitcoin dns seed seed.bitcoin.sipa.be.
Code:
nslookup seed.bitcoin.sipa.be
Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    seed.bitcoin.sipa.be
Addresses:  2001:0:9d38:6abd:281a:362b:a05a:69a4
          2002:d2d3:6da5::d2d3:6da5
          2001:0:4137:9e76:cb5:b1e:a3e4:52f1
          ..........
                 128.79.2.48
          46.101.236.112
          193.138.218.38
          5.199.134.67
          13.93.6.133
          5.101.140.194
          172.110.8.233
          94.230.153.4
          80.233.141.86
          49.2.147.201

          5.9.106.77
          71.93.161.226
          13.228.170.183
          77.21.109.150
          96.20.227.39
          24.21.123.250
          5.196.211.87
          153.215.15.204
          177.204.64.200
          94.28.163.45
          43.229.76.56
          106.15.186.248
          213.174.156.83

If node is listening incoming connections you should get a response from port 1989. This can be tested by tcping https://elifulkerson.com/projects/tcping.php .

Code:
C:\Windows\system32>tcping westcoast.hodlcoin.com 1989

Probing 96.44.157.195:1989/tcp - Port is open - time=208.603ms
Probing 96.44.157.195:1989/tcp - Port is open - time=208.711ms
Probing 96.44.157.195:1989/tcp - Port is open - time=205.467ms
Probing 96.44.157.195:1989/tcp - Port is open - time=200.919ms

Ping statistics for 96.44.157.195:1989
     4 probes sent.
     4 successful, 0 failed.
Approximate trip times in milli-seconds:
     Minimum = 200.919ms, Maximum = 208.711ms, Average = 205.925ms

But if nodes eastcoast.hodlcoin.com and westcoast.hodlcoin.com are working why users cannot sync their wallets via those nodes? When you manually add other nodes syncing works.

Mmh. westcoast.hodlcoin.com is running version "/HOdlcoin:3.0.0/".

I added
connect=46.4.64.68
connect=eastcoast.hodlcoin.com
connect=westcoast.hodlcoin.com
to my hodlcoin.conf to make my node hodlcoin.dy.fi always connect to those nodes.

Try 'addnode 46.4.64.68 add' in console (Help -> Debug Window -> Console).
