Hi, noob question apologies.

If I want to set up a dedicated node on my Linux server (headless).  Is it as simple as setting up a wallet on the server and finding the commands to run the wallet as a daemon or are there some instructions I can follow to get it up an running?

I think you need to follow Bicoin instructions https://bitcoin.org/en/full-node .

Use hodlcoind and hodlcoin-cli. I'll test this in Windows. My Linux servers does not have enough disk space.

is the wallet sync not working only for me?

Try this https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1317918.msg22003506#msg22003506
Quote
I tried these nodes from https://www.coinexchange.io/network/peers/HODL . Wallet in now syncing ok.

Go to console (Help -> Debug Window -> Console) and type or copy paste

addnode=88.99.30.25
addnode=37.221.204.26
addnode=51.15.162.15
addnode=188.202.62.41
addnode=104.233.80.15
addnode=95.65.206.180
addnode=204.65.66.114
addnode=46.236.116.179
addnode=212.49.103.42
addnode=66.90.175.20
addnode=178.27.91.246
addnode=184.9.107.79
addnode=84.58.255.201
addnode=217.147.160.30

I had a problem that wallet did not remember added nodes. I created hodlcoin.conf and copied the list https://www.coinexchange.io/network/peers/HODL
addnode=46.4.64.68
addnode=88.99.30.25
addnode=37.187.27.4
addnode=136.243.93.203

etc...
to hodlcoin.conf. The location of hodlcoin.conf is found from debug log. Like
2017-09-23 16:37:07 Using config file C:\xxxxxxxxxxxxx\hodlcoin-3.0.1\hodlcoin.conf
or C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\HOdlcoin\\hodlcoin.conf

By default hodlcoin.conf does not exist. You need to create it by using for example notepad.

By adding
connect=46.4.64.68
makes wallet always try to connect to defined node.

46.4.64.68 is coinexchange.io's node. I connected to that node and now my IP is listed on the website.
88.99.30.25 is hodl.optiminer.pl
37.187.27.4 is fr-db2.suprnova.cc

Im am. Im ready to ride with you. Lets do this. Been waiting to hear your ideas. Fish

Need to fork the coin so it like spreadcoin . so there no pool mining, then we can get the user to solo mine with many wallets so it faster to sync, atm there botnets and pool mining that has ruined this great coin. It doesn't help that the head developer didn't get rich from it and now moving onto a new coin ., -+

There are no benefits for pool mining other than giving smaller miner a more steady payout.

I'm still waiting to here something from the developer. You make some good points. I don't know how much time we should give before deciding the developer has abandoned the coin for good? I still believe the developer could be busy with other things and will get back to the coin but you never know I suppose.

HOdl coin discussion and I need input from the community please...

  • New Website Domain Name: How about hodl-coin.com? ( wow what if FReeTrade would transfer the existing domain? )
  • When I do the fork do we want to make any changes to the coin?
  • Do we want to change the logo?
  • Do we want to change the ticker?
  • The new block explorer I will self host at the coin's new website.
  • The new seed nodes I will provide at multiple co-locations.
  • What new exchanges would you want me to pay for the coin to be listed at?
  • I think the new website should include an exchange section to buy/sell/swap the coin?
  • I think I need to produce a road map graphic of this coins forward agenda.
  • Do you think this thread is good or should a new one be started?

The new website I have my head wrapped around it. Here are my thoughts. First off alt coins need to not be about the coin but rather about the community. An altcoin is nothing without its community. (period) The new site I have in my mind a kind of Facebook clone. It will have a streaming wall like Facebook where members can post text, photos, videos etc. Posts can be shared, commented liked etc. Also the site will have groups that can be created and joined both closed groups and open groups. The site will have live chat for person to person or group chat as well. The site should have a discussion board something like what we have here but also a blog section. Members should add threads to the discussion board and also be able to create blog posts.

The community site should be focused on the community of HOdl coin but past that it's not HOdl only. In other words as altcoin peeps we have many other interests in terms of other coins, crypto in general and even general discussion. Thusly the website should be a community environment where we are free to discuss all of the things that interest us.

Last but not least I've noted a few posts here that are very derogatory to the original developer FreeTrade. IMHO I think this is negative energy. FreeTrade has done no evil but rather has devoted a good deal of cash, labor, blood sweat and tears to this coin and with that being said this is a great coin and as a devoted community we will work together to make it much better. Look at the details.... no premine, no instamine, the recent code development at github and the list goes on. My suggestion is that we should be thankful to FreeTrade for his contributions to get us where we are today! Bad mouthing and talking poorly of the original developer will not help this coin to get better trust me.

You read this now start talking. This coin is moving forward centered on the community. I need to hear what you have to say so... yeah just start talking!

I would have hoped that if FreeTrade starts a new coin he would include his "former" community. I think of a involvement such as the one happened with shadowcash. They stopped that project and made all SDC holders eligible for the same amount of their holdings for their new token PART.
Of course this might be a bad example of how to do such a transition but he could do it in a better and more guided fashion.
I would be rather be in the boat with a new project (which could involve some key properties of HODL as well) instead of trying to revive this dead beat cow...

People were very upset about how the Shadowcash team handled the transition but honestly most people will have already trippled their investment in SDC if you look at the USD-chart of SDC and Part...

At least he should comment on your suggestion.

@DisasterFaster (what a pseudonym o.O) I think it's great that you are trying to move things forward. I also like your ideas for the new website you have in mind. Just let me say that it should also involve a section where discussion can be ongoing without the need for a registration.

I would love to see you involved with FreeTrade's new project on the basis of HODLcoin.

This was actually my first post on btctalk Cheesy I mined quite a bit of HODL in the last year, it was my entry point into crypto.

I like the idea of active web page. Too many coins have a static web page. I would like to people see that we trying to help them. Guides and FAQs are important. I'm quite new to cryptocurrencies and I would have liked to see more info at web pages. Instead of centralized info I had hundreds of pages forum threads. Hodlcoin should be easy for beginners.

I was thinking about integrating pool mining to wallet but maybe guide how to start pool mining is better. Should we host our own pool?

What you say about SDC is true. I more than 3x just by hodling thru the swap. We cant control what Freetrade does. not to mention his new idea consists of two paragraphs related to a 5 digit ticker. not much there. 5 letter tickers are DOA all the big exchanges have said they dont want bullshit like that, they want 3 letter tickers like the stock market to make it look more professional. The name bcash is fucking dead on arrival. no major exchange will list that name. I like freetrade and have been working along with him here for years now. The truth is we need someone with fire in their belly, passion and follow though with their plan. Freetrade for what ever reason does not have that right now. Things change in life passions change people change. We cant wait anymore for Freetrade. Embrace our new leader and lets come up with some innovative ideas to implement and continue help and grow the community.

I'm afraid of that "solo mining only". When using pool you get coins everyday. I like to check my wallet every day and make deposits. Some how it is addicting and fun. Even if you don't have much CPU power you still get steady income. Even kids can mine some coins after school and see those coins in their wallets. No need to be mega miner if you don't want to. Easy to start.

My Monero wallet is much much more valuable than Hooldcoin wallet. I still prefer Hodlcoin. Monero is not interesting to mine. Payment thresholds are 0.3 - 1.0 XMR. This takes weeks or months. I should have got my 0.3 XMR (28$). I have not opened my Monero wallet since... I don't remenber. I demonstrated Hodlcoin to one of my friends. It was easy and he had some coins in his wallet in no time. Suprnova pool takes some time to configure. optiminer.pl is easier. I would like to see a GUI for hodlminer.exe.

Hodlcoin doesn't need Asics or GPUs. Basic CPU is enough so Hodlcoin should be easy enough for basic users.

addnode=84.193.219.191
addnode=91.112.41.147
