evidence that it is better to accept the default fee amount
122  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do winning and losing gamblers have different personalities or habits? on: March 10, 2016, 09:05:52 PM

PS: Are you writing a thesis on Gambling and Personalities?

No.

[academic stuff] But Psychologists have noticed that different games appeal to different personalities, and mathematicians know that different games have different % Expected Value (EV).  I see evidence that some games reinforce specific personality traits and habits.  The self-selection process (appears to me) to result in different personalities having noticeably different financial results when gambling.  I realize that it is not always easy to separate cause and effect [/academic stuff]

123  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What's stopping people from using bitcoin? on: March 10, 2016, 07:17:21 PM
Some of the advantages of Bitcoin involve the remote but private purchase of items and services, in a way that does not show up on a credit card or bank statement.  And there will always be a multi-billion dollar demand for these items and services.  They include completely legal things that people want discretion and privacy when purchasing, and things that are legal in some jurisdictions but not in others.

The acquisition of Bitcoin is a separate step from the private purchase of the items or services, but the general public has been slow to recognize the advantage of that two-step process.  The good news is that Bitcoin Market Capitalization is now at approximately 6.5 billion USD, and Bitcoin wallets can be downloaded from most of the major software sites.  That is progress.

Does someone who buys a scratch ticket every day have a noticeably different personality than someone who works regularly to improve his poker game?

Are there differences between slots players and blackjack players?

125  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Tips for local transactions on: March 10, 2016, 01:43:04 AM
I prefer local transactions

126  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Do winning and losing gamblers have different personalities or habits? on: March 09, 2016, 06:54:44 PM
The question confuses me.
Most gambling games you will see how there are -EV and players have no control over it.

If you're talking about games like poker, yes, there's a big difference between a winning and a losing player in the long run.
It takes a lot of dedication, discipline and understanding to be a wining poker player, and most people give up before reaching that.

That sounds correct to me.

So it appears to be influenced by personality or habits.

First, if we observe the personality and characteristics of a large number of people gambling at the following games, will we notice any similarities, or any differences?

  • Slot Machines
  • Scratch Tickets
  • Craps
  • Roulette
  • Blackjack
  • Dice
  • Poker
  • Lottery
  • (add your own game if I forgot to include it)

Are people with certain characteristics drawn to play some games, and to avoid others, or do we find an equal distribution of personalities among the games?

If you compared a large number of losing gamblers to the winning gamblers, would you notice any differences in personality, ability, or habits?

Is it something that we could test people for?

Are there things that we could encourage, reward, or train people to do better that would increase their chances of winning?

129  Economy / Economics / Re: Article: Maybe Bitcoin Will Grow Up to be a Currency (Bloomberg) on: March 09, 2016, 04:19:44 PM
Bloomberg has a lifetime of dollar-denominated investment success.  To a hammer, everything looks like a nail.  Someone else will lead the Bitcoin parade.

130  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: would you have the courage to do this? on: March 09, 2016, 03:03:22 AM
I laughed when the pit boss said "Ashley.  I want you to take a moment and get yourself composed, and then we'll go over the rules of the game.  Are you sure you wanna make this bet of your life savings here?  I want you to know, we would never knowingly condone or accept someone making a wager of their entire life savings, but we know this is a culmination of a grand adventure for you, and hopefully the start of many more and more interesting pages."

131  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Bitcoin as one part of the Decentralized Revolution on: March 08, 2016, 06:44:45 PM
It may be useful to remind ourselves that Bitcoin is one part of the decentralized revolution.  The parts currently (or will soon) include:

  • Cryptography – private communication
  • Bitcoin - decentralized monetary system
  • OpenBazaar - decentralized marketplace (a blending of the best features of eBay and Torrents)
  • Torrents - decentralized document distribution
  • Distributed websites - decentralized publishing. Distributed websites are not stored on a single server.  The parts (including images and even different words of each sentence) are hashed and reside on multiple servers worldwide.  Publish anything, without actually writing it.
  • 3D Printers and CNC – decentralized production

The old model of buying pizza with Bitcoin is still possible, but the real utility of Bitcoin will soon become apparent.  There will be many new users, and a higher price.

132  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Video: OpenBazaar Testing - Buying a Physical Good on: March 08, 2016, 04:29:22 PM
So, every seller needs to run their own server connected to the Internet 24/7? Is that correct?

There will be services which will keep your store online 24/7 for a tiny fee i should assume.  If you want to sell legit things that could be a decent option.  I just hope we can upload CSVs no problem Smiley

One option is to install OpenBazaar (and your OB storefront) on a dirt-cheap, low-power Raspberry Pi using Raspbian server, and let it run 24/7.  But if you need stealth, additional steps would be necessary.

If they release a fully functional OpenBazaar this year, it will be
134  Other / Off-topic / Re: What else besides Bitcoin r u doing to make money online? on: March 07, 2016, 09:11:18 PM
My main source of income is playing internet Bitcoin poker.  I do not invest in inventory.  There are almost no expenses.  It is completely portable.  It is off the grid.

135  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is bitcoin being used for illegal activities on: March 07, 2016, 08:09:45 PM
Cash is being used for illegal activities, by the truckload.
136  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: Video: OpenBazaar Testing - Buying a Physical Good on: March 07, 2016, 04:31:35 PM
The OB interface has improved noticeably in the last few months, but it is not ready for prime time yet.

The number of users (and the price) for BTC will increase when OB is fully operational.  It will be front page news.

People will sit around the campfire and talk about the old days before Bitcoin and before OpenBazaar.
137  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling. Is It Wrong? on: March 07, 2016, 02:23:10 AM
It is not wrong if you do it right.
138  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Any advantages from gambling? on: March 07, 2016, 02:04:18 AM
Internet poker can encourage discipline, observation, decisiveness, bankroll management, and aggression.

Once mastered and combined with Bitcoin, an internet connection and a computer, it can provide a completely portable source of income.

139  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How much can you earn with gambling? on: March 07, 2016, 01:49:40 AM
Play only against other humans, never against the house.

Do not sit at the table with your entire bankroll.  Be patient.  Pay attention to what is happening.  Classify the players by how impatient they are.  Look for a reckless opponent who bets big with nothing.  Wait until they bet big and you have a legitimate hand.  Raise them all-in.

Quit when you are ahead.  Protect your winnings.  Do not risk them.

Repeat at a different table, always with just a fraction of your bankroll.

140  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to motivate women to use Bitcoin? on: March 07, 2016, 01:28:09 AM
Many successful women want to be anonymous on the internet.

The opposite of Facebook and credit cards.
