Somewhat evocative of the invasion of the Sea Peoples http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sea_Peoples during the Late Bronze Age collapse.  Possibly caused by "famine".

If we somehow could achieve the goal we both share and enact a government that was stable and intent on constantly shrinking itself there would likely be two opposing political parties.

The anarchist party would constantly be pushing the latest decentralized solution arguing for rapid dissolution of state functions. The collectivist party would constantly call for restraint and more study worrying over the unknown consequences of untested solutions. Balance would be achieved in the interplay between the parties. We would diverge in that hypothetical world just as we do here today.

Divergence expands to fill the available space.

Bitcoin is still somewhat nerdic, but less so than it used to be.  Girls do a lot of "shopping", so if there are advantages to Bitcoin, they will use them.

  • Girls shop
  • Guys buy what they need

265  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin and closing tax havens on: April 12, 2015, 11:20:41 PM
Tax evasion is a problem everywhere, I guess eventually some people might use bitcoin for that purpose, I don't think bitcoin is particularly good for criminal activity, the digital trail may be very difficult to eliminate nd law enforcement agencies will get up to date with latest technology, eventually.
What the hell are they going to do after you run your coins throught a mixer? or even depositing your coins on an exchange with a fake email using a VPN then withdrawing. The trail is cut after that. I dont think they are going to go after that many problems, unless you are like moving billions or something.

Correct, you also do not use an off shore for a couple thousand.

The problem is not hiding bitcoin when you have bitcoin, that part is easy, the problem is getting from Euros or dollars, let's say a couple million, to bitcoin without leaving a trace, or spending a lot of bitcoin just like any other form of money without having any away to show where it came from.

Well stated.

In the movies, when someone is running through the woods and being chased by blood hounds, they often enter shallow water and walk upstream (or is it downstream?).  They leave the stream when and where it is most advantageous.

Gute Arbeit.

Verzeihen Sie mein Schreiben.

Well... Not really sure what you are trying to say. Feel free to talk english here! 😀

Danke

Nice job on the Bitcoin tax tool.

I know that people (in some other countries) deliberately keep Bitcoin and poker profits on a Bitcoin poker site until the conditions are favorable for a transfer back to the more public accounts. They do this to control when the profits are earned and taxed, and when to postpone the earnings.

I can read much better than I can write.

269  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin is just to complicated for the average person to use.. on: April 12, 2015, 07:47:06 PM
Bitcoin is currently for the "at least slightly above average" person.

Look how long it is taking to convert the average person to the metric system.

Sure, In the 80s and the early 90s only people slightly above average used computers. All people cannot be trendsetters and innovators or the word would lose its meaning.

No idea how long that is, I've been born to the metric system Wink

Yes.  The only thing worse than Imperial Measurements might be Roman Numerals.

At least our speedometers are not calibrated in furlongs per fortnight.

1 furlong per fortnight = 0.000166309524 m/s
the speed of light is 1.8026×1012 furlongs/fortnight

272  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What if YOU could put 1 feature, change, whatever, into the Bitcoin protocol? on: April 12, 2015, 03:30:01 AM
A built-in Bitcoin lottery.  By default, every Bitcoin transaction over a base amount* would give the sender an entry into The Official Bitcoin Cryptographic Lottery that is awarded every 2 years.  Funded from a micro-tax on qualifying transactions.  Senders could check a box to opt-out if they want.  International.  Transparent.  Publicity generating.  No administrative fees.  Would encourage people to download wallets.  Would encourage people to fund wallets.  Would encourage transactions.

*micro transactions would not be taxed and would not earn an entry

274  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: My life is fucked! Bought 5 BTC and lost all! God punish me. on: April 12, 2015, 03:08:10 AM
this thread of nonsense is almost a year old, people should stop bumping this thread anyway just to boost your post count
It is old thread, but the problem is universal. There are still people out there who lost everything or almost everything because of gambling addiction, op was just an example and one of many poor souls, the problem lies not in casinos being present and available for everyone but in people who are being deceived by illusion of easy money.

i dont agree that the thread is noncense,i think this thread should be made "sticky" even.. there are tons of people that might reconsider their thoughts and intentions
after reading OP. We'we all been there, depression realy gets you after a huge hit like OP had, and if some old thread can make even 1 user to reconsider gambling, then its worth it...

cheers

I agree.  This is serious business.  Don't gamble what you can't afford to lose.  That includes your house, your car, your savings, and the money you need to pay your bills.

A very sad story, and painful, but your life is not fucked over 5 BTC.

276  Economy / Gambling / Bitcoin Poker Table Starters Wanted on: April 12, 2015, 12:28:06 AM
Which came first?  The Chicken or the Egg?

Experienced poker players are needed to start poker tables.  (Other players are much more likely to sit down at a table if there is already someone there).

Opportunities for High Stakes, Medium Stakes, Low Stakes, Micro Stakes players.  Flexible hours, flexible stakes.  You decide how much you want to earn and what tables to start.  Wait for a monster hand and go all-in, or play it safe.  Play to win, play to earn table starter benefits, or some combination of both. Play only the games you are comfortable in.

Update:
  • Thank you to those who signed up and really are experienced players.  I will honor my commitments to you.
  • Thank you also to the players who made a good effort, but did not have enough experience yet
  • About one-third of the people had "issues" or needed too much hand holding
  • I am still observing play and determining who fits in what category.  Some people appear to have embellished their playing ability
  • Any new applicants will need to demonstrate their experience before we reach an agreement.  You at least need to be a "break even" player, and be accustomed to playing a few hours a day

Personally I think that Bitcoin is what will save online poker.  Signing a petition or Tweeting a Senator is nice... but the best way to defeat government restrictions is to find a way around them and demonstrate how ineffective and meaningless they are.

So it's awesome to see that you are helping to make that happen, and I'll continue to do whatever I can to help.

Our goals are noble.

We can all help.  There are internet forums where we can tell people about where we play, and why.
278  Economy / Gambling / What percent of internet Bitcoin poker is Luck vs Skill? on: April 05, 2015, 07:26:58 AM
This is a gambling forum, and most of you gamble somewhere with Bitcoin, so I am curious what percent of internet Bitcoin poker you think is luck vs skill?

  • Do you even consider internet Bitcoin poker to be gambling?
  • Are you more comfortable gambling against the house?
  • Is poker too much action or not enough action?

More troubleshooting on the "no sound" problem.

I have two XP PCs.  One has SwC sound and one does not have SwC sound.  Other sounds work fine.

I used Windows Explorer (aka File Manager) to look at the installed files (C:\Program Files\swcpoker).  The PC with SwC sound has a C:\Program Files\swcpoker\Sounds folder with WAV files in it.  The PC with no SwC sound does not have a Sounds folder, and does not have the files.  Uninstalled and installed.  Still no folder and no WAV files.

Hmm, that's weird.

I wonder if it would work if you copied the "Sounds" folder and added it to the PC that's missing it.

That is exactly what I did, and the sound worked immediately.

C:\Program Files\swcpoker\sounds  (it may be in a different location on other computers)

sounds folder containing WAV files for
call
check
dealcard
login
muck
pullchips
raise
timeout
toact
winchips

sound files are
705kbps
16-bit
1 channel (mono)
44 kHz
PCM

so for those who do not have sound while playing on SwCPoker, check to see if you have the sounds folder with those files in it.
