1  Economy / Economics / Re: Money Matters on: September 13, 2018, 07:21:54 PM
Money matters because we have made it our primary mean of exchange and also because in current society it is roughly equivalent to political power as well due to the way we organize ourselves. I think money is different than wealth though, as the value of fiat money can quickly decrease.

So yes, money matters just as long as it has a central place in our society, as long as we collectively decide it matters but there are certainly things that matter much more in the end.
2  Economy / Economics / Re: Rising USD prices on: September 06, 2018, 09:51:18 PM
The impact of USD fluctuations on cryptocurrencies market is very insignificant so far, like other persons have mentioned the real impact is for people with fiat currencies in crisis such as turkish liras and venezuelian currencies. It might have a bigger impact in the future yes but right now no, crypto is in a bear market that s all.
3  Economy / Economics / Re: how to save money? on: September 06, 2018, 06:54:37 PM
This is easy to understand, saving that money is enough to collect your money from your own work. And save it on the machine card or ATM. Save it well so you can use it when the situation is pressed.

Some people cannot save money because they have been through too many difficult situations for a long period of time but yes of course everyone should save money every month in order to make it easier to go through bad times. I think it's very important to not chase luxury lifestyles when your own security or the one of your family is not secure in the long term, it's more important to save as much as possible (while still enjoying life of course).
4  Economy / Economics / Re: Fiat Currency Always Fails on: September 06, 2018, 03:57:30 PM
I think fiat and cryptocurencies have more in common than we generally assume because they both rely exclusively on trust and the law of offer and demand. That said fiat are also indirectly backed by networks of banks and central banks and many other institutions yes. What I like  the most in crypto is the transparency of the rules (codes) and the endless possibilities in the real of smart economies and digital scapes.
5  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin Mining Drives Green Energy Innovation on: August 30, 2018, 09:14:21 PM
I really like Antonopolous and OP approach to Bitcoin green subsidy capability. In my opinion it is a very valid point but it only counterbalance the negative effects which are them very present.

By negative I mean that theoretical perpetual race towards more hashrate and more energy consumptipn which in the end is more waste than anything else.  I wonder what solutions outside of the free market there really is to.limit this waste.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: ETH, road down to $50? on: August 30, 2018, 07:44:04 PM
I think seeing ETH to $50 is a possibility if we continue downward in a bear market, it would still be some decent value compared to what it was in the beginning. Myself I don't think it will go so low in price, as other people have mentioned it is very unlikely that it goes under $100, there are many many developers still working on it and plenty of new things coming.

I doubt it will get back to $1000 anytime soon though  Cheesy

Only time will tell but right now the crypto market is pretty depressed.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Are you long term or short term? on: August 16, 2018, 07:53:25 PM
I am more long term oriented but there are many coins where you can feel there is a short term opportunity to make a profit and there is no point investing long term if you have a the feeling it will just pump and dump. So yes, I'd say my mindset is long term but if you really want to make profits, you need to see short terms and seize short term opportunties as well. It's a tough neighboorhood but there are plenty of opportunities in crypto.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: bitcoin or litecoin ? on: August 16, 2018, 07:08:28 PM
I think Litecoin design is slightly superior (like more supply) but it is nowhere near Bitcoin when it comes to immaculate conception, reserve currency status, overall bullishness, adoption as a store of value, market cap and price growth possibilities.

So yes, Bitcoin of course and Litecoin as a second choice, dumped them all months ago myself, will buy back some if it falls too low because it's still a decent minor sidechain for Bitcoin.
9  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Tokens (Altcoins) / Re: Securix - A token driven mining company on: August 10, 2018, 11:10:49 AM
It's the first ICO about mining that seems convincing. I am not sure about the returns but it seems like a pretty solid project that won't vanish overnight. That said, anyone can do a whitepaper, write text and put pictures so I would need more research before saying it's safe and worth investing.

Good luck with your project if you are sincere  Cheesy
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Crypto is about to dead - Get out from it before its too late on: August 09, 2018, 05:20:12 PM
I totally disagree. The technology behind it was a revolution in the digital age. Those who are about to die are those who do not keep up with the changes of the digital age.

Exactly, that's more like this that we should anticipated the future... but on the other hand it's pretty clear now that many altcoins that pumped wildly in january will never come reach their ATH again, simply because there are too many useless cryptos and too many new projects coming out every day. I see absolutely no reason for the cryptocurrency market to die because it's just such a powerful tool, it might take some time to attract large ammount of money again because it needs to evolve a little bit.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What is a good amount to invest? on: August 02, 2018, 07:49:37 PM
The maximum ammount anyone should invest in cryptocurrencies is around 5% of their investing portfolio. Now if you don't have that much money and decide to let's say cut a useless spending to invest a bit in crypo I suppose it wouldn't be such a bad idea. But 5% max is a good choice because it's a very risky investment and you might loose everything.

Like other people have said, don't invest everything in altcoins, put at least a decent 50-60% in Bitcoin, because altcoins are very volatile and risky  Cheesy
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: IOTA is the next big thing on: July 27, 2018, 04:02:45 PM
I find the concept of tangle very fascinating but I don't see much use for it in the very near future, I really like the project and the fact it is German and has many partnership but for the time being, I will rather invest in Bitcoin and other projects which in my opinion will be adopted faster. To me it seems much overvalued for the current real value it bring to the world but I am sure it will be a big thing in the future yes.

As other says it's mostly a matter of when and how long you want to wait though.
13  Economy / Economics / Re: The dollar affects Bitcoin? on: July 27, 2018, 09:53:47 AM
If USD and EUR decrease due to inflation, the price of Bitcoin will increase. Therefore, fiat inflation will increase the price of Bitcoin in the long run. That affects the price of bitcoin

Yes it is obvious that the price of Bitcoin in fiat currencies is affected by their relative purchase power. I think the OP question is a bit too vague but as the dollar is the world reserve currency it has a large effect on the global economy which has also an effect on the supply and demand of Bitcoin.

The connection between is thus direct and indirect but they both have their own complex dynamics, so as much as it's interesting it's a pretty difficult topic  Cheesy
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Do you feel like quitting? on: July 26, 2018, 09:25:09 PM
Sometimes I feel like quitting but when I mean about quitting is just temporarily leave crypto and my coins for later once a clearly identifiable bull market come back but I am so fascinated by the potential of the technology that I keep researching and seeking informations on the latests developments and projects. I feel like it's probably going to take years before anything really useful besides Bitcoin is adopted throughout the world but it's one of the most exciting time because it's still quite early.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Has the market recovered? on: July 20, 2018, 08:58:54 AM
I think that it is recovering even only a little bit. Not a total recovery. We can see some slight increase from the price of Bitcoin in the past weeks. I don't think there is some specific reason why it is slightly increasing. I think it is because of its pump and dump cycle.

I think it's impossible to predict if the market downtrend is reversing or it is simply some Bitcoin bounce but the situation of most altcoins is very bad, so I would say it's possible it's the bottom and the start of a recovery but it could also go further down with BTC under $6K and altcoins bleeding so bad that every altcoin holders will cry a lot. I am bullish myself but I would advise people to hold at least 50% BTC to avoid loosing too much if this is just a bounce.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Altcoin be as important as Bitcoin? on: July 19, 2018, 10:21:01 PM
In any ecosystem, be it in nature or business, there is always a competition. And most often than not, the best always rises to the top. And here in our crypto ecosystem, a competition do also exist. Between Bitcoin and Altcoin. We all very well known that bitcoin, being the first and most proven cryptocurrency already took the center stage in crypto market. Now that altcoins came into the picture, where does it really stands? What will be the selling point of altcoin that will eventually led the bitcoin enthusiasts to finally switch places?

In my opinion Bitcoin is the source and the rest is a very interesting evolution, I think technological developments in altcoins will lead to the future of digital fiat money that will be something like centralized digital currencies but will also lead to better decentralized cryptocurrencies. I also think it's too early to predict which altcoins will survive the test of time, so far Bitcoin seems to be the only one to be truly capable of that but there will be more of course and more than probably altcoins currently existing.

So yes, they are as important, it's from the same family as BTC, it's expanding the technology.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Blockchain Technology on: July 19, 2018, 03:28:32 PM
Blockchain is like a "giant Google Doc". "With one different key. you can see it, and add it (note financial transactions), but can not change the information already stored there. Blockchain does that with a mathematical calculation called cryptography. What makes the recording unchangeable and altered by others,

Yeah basically blockchain is simply a secured shared ledgerd, it could be used as a tool to help protect the environment but in order to do so a political will and strategies would be necessary. I am highly skeptical about the tokens like the one promoted by the OP, I don't think they will work. But as another poster has pointed out, planning and tracking the use of natural resources could maybe made much easier thanks to blockchain.
18  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin security is safe now? on: July 18, 2018, 02:45:02 PM
As other people have mentionedn the Bithumb hack has nothing to do with Bitcoin itself, Bitcoin is probably the most secure cryptocurrency in the world as it's the one which has been under the most scrutiny from developpers from all around the world, which has been the most intensively tested and which has the more hashing power from large mining operations.

I think nothing is never 100% safe but Bitcoin value would be much lower if there were any doubt about its security.
19  Other / Politics & Society / Re: $50,000 electric car or $45 carbon filter on: July 14, 2018, 01:43:45 PM
I think that the $45 filter is a cool temporary help but in the long run we should be moving to electric cars.

That being said, Im curious as to the source of energy that is used to charge that electric car. If it is coal or nuclear power than I really think we should be working towards something else. That isn't to say that we need to immediately kill all those jobs that coal and nuclear power create but transition to something else. The sooner the better.

I am very skeptical about the real effect of the filter on cars emissions, I mean, this carbon dioxyde can be filtered and kept somewhere but it cannot be destroyed so simply just with a $45 filter or we would have no more global warming problem if it was that simple, it seems like a scam to me but maybe it help a little bit. Anyone knows how it could really work ?
20  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Who believes in HODLING? on: July 05, 2018, 08:15:35 PM
Holding is not the worst strategy if you really know the cryptos you have invested in have a continuous development and will have more chance to rise in price in the future no matter what happen. I think selling high and buying low is the best strategy to accumulate but it's difficult to pick the right moments and even more so for people new to the space (less than a year). So, why not holding but be careful with what you hold or you will get burned as well.
