I'm 24 and I just want to see some kids smiling you dumb!

This whole thing is kind of pathetic...

Considerations before giving to a charity, for those based in the US - http://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0074-giving-charity

Advice for Australians - http://www.scamwatch.gov.au/content/index.phtml/tag/charityscams

e.g.

  • The person tries to put pressure on you by making you feel guilty or selfish if you don’t want to donate.
I'll make this donations happen anyway.
It seems like here people won't do anything.
  • The person asking for money cannot or will not give you details about the charity, such as its full name, tax status, address or phone number.
All the bitcoins will be in sight, we will start helping poor children and their families by buying them what they need.
  • The person gets defensive if you ask any questions about what the charity does and how much of the donation gets taken up by costs.
You are crazy man! Donations aren't a scam!
  • The person doesn’t want to give you a receipt. Or, they give you a receipt that does not have the charity’s details on it.
  • etc...

Welcome to the United State Goverment people! Who else would have the power to manipulate the price like this, and the motive to do so?? All those tax free transactions are eating at then, and they can't take it anymore!!

Or not.  Anyone with $10M can easily manipulate the Bitcoin market.  That won't change until the markets are much deeper and much bigger.  It hardly takes the resources of a nation state and certainly not the United States. Somalia central bank would have the resources to push the Bitcoin market around.

This has to be my favorite quote on bitcointalk so far... I might have to give Dr. Abdisalam Omer a call and see if we can work out a price manipulation deal Smiley
5  Economy / Securities / Re: S.DICE - SatoshiDICE 100% Dividend-Paying Asset on MPEx on: June 12, 2013, 07:13:48 AM
Evorhees, can you please publish SDICE balance sheet too? Nothing fancy, just a summary of company's assets, liabilities and shareholders equity. As of May 31 is OK.

Thank you.

+1

I'm looking to invest but would like to see up to date financials to have a better understand of where SatoshiDICE is at...

Thanks,
Eric

BTW - having read through this thread over the past few hours to get more background on what has been going on, regarding Abu22:

You're really obnoxious. Please sell your shares and stop making this thread such a miserable place to spend time.

BTW - for those interested in altcoins - check out http://www.coinwarz.com/cryptocurrency

They have added some neat features recently, like difficulty fluctuation and exchange rate stability.

lol, there are a lot of alts that's for sure. I figure some dev is going to "crack the code" so to speak and create the next contender. I hold balances in Argentum, Bitbar, Bitcoin, Digitalcoin, Elacoin, Feathercoin, Flashcoin (Which I regret) Litecoin, Namecoin, Stablecoin and Worldcoin. I am playing the odds that something will be worth it later.
If not, I have learned a ton so far regarding gpus and hashing, that has to be worth something as well.

I'm with krusin; trying to get out of newbie hell, and the fact that I have been dabbling in buying / trading / mining a variety of altcoins as well. I've been trying to hedge my bets by diversifying, with a weighted focus on those that seem more stable or likely.

So far I've bought / traded / mined:
BTC (obviously)
NMC (merged mining after all)
LTC (people call it the silver of digital currency)
FTC (It has had a pretty good run so far)
CNC (because the Chinese run half the world anyway)
WDC (because, well why not)
Bitbar (another well why not)

I don't have any stocks of Argentum, have to look at that one. I'm also thinking of trying to add some high risk bonds to my portfolio if I can get them at the right price. I'm trying to follow a somewhat traditional portfolio risk exposure strategy with low/medium/high risks assets at 60%/30%/10%. Its a little more difficult to figure out risk when it comes altcoins, in fact the the entire crypto-currency thing is a little difficult to gauge. It is probably more realist to say that the risk exposure is medium-low/medium-high/high-high than just low/medium/high, but it all gets normalized anyway.

That's my two cents worth...

While I'm not crazy about the USB Eruptors based on their cost / hash rate ratio... that is a pretty cool and minimal setup  Smiley
9  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: [Poll] Litecoin on MtGox on: June 11, 2013, 08:13:28 PM
I have been using BTC-e for LTC trading, but I think it would add a lot of value to the litecoin market if Mt Gox finally adds them as another currency. Their statement from a few months ago was that they were working on implementing it when they had that massive DDOS attack and then all this hoopla with US DOJ and AML stuff.

Still, I'm hoping by the end of the summer...

As far as investing... That is tricky. "Investing" in BTC is extremely risky and you should be prepared to loose everything. Bitcoin is not designed as an investment, it is a payment system and I would recommend thinking of it that way. But if you want to do it anyway for fun or whatever. Then start with 1 bitcoin and try selling it high, then buying it back low. Make a game of it!

Not to pick a fight with RodeoX, but I would completely disagree with that assertion. Yes bitcoin is used as a payment system, but like all currencies, whether fiat or virtual, they have some nominal value beyond their use as a form of payment, which fluctuates over time in relation to the other currencies. If you can trade currencies, and exploit fluctuations to your advantage, then it is a perfectly reasonable investment vehicle, just as if you were trading USD-GBP, EUR-JPY, or leathermugs-tin hats. Yes it has risks, as all investments do, and you certainly don't want to over-extend yourself or lose more than you can deal with. But you can always manage risk as well, for instance when trading you can put in a stop-loss order, so that you only risk X percent. I think that bitcoin today is on par with some of the riskier fiat currencies, so I say educate yourself, then go for it.

best way to invest in Bitcoins is simply to buy bitcoins
How would you recommend I do this?

Quote
Online wallets like coinbase is not recommended to fetch your roi . Cold storage is the way to go.
How does that work?

I'm just trying to buy and hold some Bitcoins.  What should I do?

Hello fellow forum members,

I'm a long time lurker that decided to get into BTC and LTC investing / trading after doing some very simple mining at home for the past few months.

As to bitcoinrocks question:

How do you acquire bitcoins? Join an exchange like Mt. Gox or BTC-e or Camp-BX or similar (https://en.bitcoin.it/wiki/Buying_bitcoins)

Be prepared to wait for a while to get verified (due to Anti-Money Laundering requirements, also referred to as AML), and be prepared to wait for a while for your bank deposit or transfer to show up. A lot of people put money into a fund transfer service like Dwolla, and then send their money on to the exchange, where you change those dollars or euros into BTC or LTC or whatever currency you're interested in.

How do you store your BTC? You need a wallet, check out this "getting started" (http://www.weusecoins.com/en/getting-started) or this site (http://bitcoin.org/en/choose-your-wallet). Keep in mind that you have to have different wallets for BTC and LTC because they are different coins based on different blockchains. Its like having a USD denominated bank account, and another for EUR or GBP.

How do you make a profit with BTC and LTC? Simple - buy low, sell high... same as it has always been. You build a portfolio with a variety of risks, watch the markets for trends, crunch your own numbers, build experience, and be blessed with more good luck than bad.

That's it  Cool

And there is my first post!
