81  Economy / Exchanges / Is Bitstamp still a good exchange for trading? on: November 18, 2019, 11:48:02 PM
Hi Everyone!

I recently published a review of Bitstamp, so I wanted to get your thoughts on Bitstamp.

Do you think it's still a good exchange? The trading fee on Bistamp is now 0.5%, which is one of the highest in the industry. What do you guys think, is it worth it to still trade on Bitstamp?

You can find the full Bitstamp cryptocurrency exchange review here.

Can't wait to discuss with you guys!

You messed up the URL tag by the way. Remove the quotation marks.

Code:
[url=http://"https://blog.shrimpy.io/blog/bitfinex-exchange-review"]Is Bitfinex still a good exchange for cryptocurrency trading?[/url]

As for the article, I was expecting almost everything to be positive as to be able to promote affiliate links. A lot better than expected. 4/5

I apologize, I have fixed the link! I appreciate your feedback! Our team does not give out any affiliate links for exchanges, so the reviews are completely based on our opinions of the exchange. Please let me know if you have any questions or comments you would like to discuss!

For example, say you have a portfolio of 50% BTC and 50% LTC. You want the percentages to stay at those values. So, in order to keep them at those percentages, as the value of those assets change, you can periodically trade to reach those target allocations again. If BTC goes up to 60%, a rebalance would then sell BTC to bring it back down to 50%.
I read the article and the Rebalancing got me curious.
This kind of feature, the Rebalancing one is something like covered by some Bots? Like what was explained in the example(quoted one).
So if it's done by bots, how we can assure if the bot will perform it accurately? Because I'm a little bit afraid because maybe the bot will make mistake or any misconfiguration on your account settings/bot settings.

Yes of course! Rebalancing is covered by https://www.shrimpy.io/. I would encourage you to check it out. You can be comfortable knowing there are tens of thousands of other traders using Shrimpy and it accurately rebalances the portfolio of these users. This service has been around for almost 2 years. Let me know if you have any questions.

Interesting. The rebalancing idea got me but there are still a few questions lingering like is the performance done by the automation accurate? Is it possible that it may not be able to rebalance? Like when BTC goes to 40%, where would it get funds to retake it to 50%? From the previous example lets say, it would take it from the LTC one? but then it would make the LTC balance go down right? So doesn't that mean that it would need my funds to maintain the balance? Does that mean that I would leave a certain amount of balance in the automation that would automatically be used whenever the coin is imbalanced? What if a market crash happens in a slow amount of time? could that possibly lead me to a loss instead? Not gonna lie it sounds an interesting idea but I'd rather have beginners study how to trade themselves before using such bots. Imo, such bots are better used by those professional traders since they could think up of many complicated situations that would require more assistance than what a bot can provide.

Generally, rebalancing is effective and accurately completes each time. The premise is pretty simple, so it's a pretty safe strategy to execute.

everyone will want a simple trade, but I don't recommend novice traders using bots, the most important for beginners is to learn the basics of trading, what's interesting to me here is the rebalancing strategy, I will try to learn it.

Shrimpy is really designed to be perfect for novice users. It's simple to select the percentages and begin automating without much overhead. I think if you dig into the details a bit you will see how simple and powerful the idea is.

Please let me know if you have any other questions! Happy to help.

This guide discusses how to automate your portfolio using strategies.
~Snipped~

I've always been a fan of automation. It does take the heavy load especially for a trader. Having a bot to continously adjust stop loss orders to a Trailing stop when in profit. I don't understand the concept of rebalancing and don't think it's for me.

I'm taking Python as a course this semester and since it's a multi purpose language, its good for automation. For now, I'm thinking of just usiit for data analysis. I plan to get the data from coinmarketcap.com and other exchange apis. I might build a prediction model using the data from coinmarketcap.com though. I look forward to building solutions soon.

That's great to hear! Instead of getting the data from CoinMarketCap, I would highly recommend checking out the Shrimpy Developer APIs. They provide more complete market data than CoinMarketCap and can be used for trading, among other things.

You can check them out here: https://developers.shrimpy.io/

Since you're using Python, here is a quick example of how you can start plotting price charts using the python library: https://blog.shrimpy.io/blog/a-python-script-for-cryptocurrency-price-charts

88  Economy / Trading Discussion / Automated Cryptocurrency Trading for Beginners on: October 26, 2019, 08:01:38 PM
I know there are a number of people here who have been looking for simplified ways to automate aspects of their portfolio.

As a result, I would like to suggest the following guide:

This guide discusses how to automate your portfolio using strategies like portfolio rebalancing.

I think it's worth a read for everyone to explore this new concept.
89  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Price Charts For Every Exchange on: October 25, 2019, 11:02:00 PM
Hi Everyone,

I recently released a project I've been working on for some time. It's a free way to chart the price of Bitcoin across every major exchange. It still has some room for improvement, but I wanted to send it out to see what everyone here thought.

I would love to get your feedback!

You can find the price charts here: https://www.shrimpy.io/price/bitcoin/tether/binance

Looking forward to hearing from everyone here.

Upon visiting your website project I noticed its good design but I have a question how much percentage is the accurancy of your price to binance? You have also a chart good job for this one but Im looking forward that its has no laggy or delay on price action.

Thank you for the question! The price updates in real-time. That means as soon as the price changes on the exchange, you will see the updates in the UI. The latency is generally about 1 second since the price change on the exchange. We will continue to make this quicker for the charts to make sure we have the fastest charts available.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

91  Economy / Trading Discussion / What Bitcoin Trading Tools Should Everyone Be Using? on: October 17, 2019, 09:58:47 PM
Hi Everyone!

I thought I would start a discussion on what tools everyone uses to manage their portfolio. There are a lot of great tools out in the market, so I would love to hear what you're all using and how it fits into your portfolio strategy.

Here are the tools we wrote up that we think everyone should be using. Let me know your thoughts!

92  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Dollar-Cost Averaging for Your Crypto Portfolio on: October 17, 2019, 09:50:39 PM
Hi Everyone!

I hope you're all having a great week. I just published an article on dollar-cost averaging which I think would be a great read for many of the traders here. It provides a simple way to consistently add additional funds into your portfolio.

I would love if you could take a look and let me know what you think!

https://blog.shrimpy.io/blog/dollar-cost-averaging-for-cryptocurrency-portfolios

Nice strategy although traders with big portfolio size would benefit more. Traders with small funds can use the strategies as it involves "injecting" more funds from time to time to cut risk.  Quick question, I saw your other thread about Shrimpy's Charting and I liked it. I want to know what your platform is about. I'm a new trader and I like what I saw. Thanks for the tutorial though. I'm sure someone might find it useful.

Thanks for asking! Shrimpy is a portfolio management application which focuses on simplifying the way people manage their cryptocurrency. Instead of spending a bunch of time day trading, Shrimpy focuses on automating simple long term strategies which have a strong track record. For example, you can quickly index the market, allocate a diverse portfolio, rebalance, and dollar cost average into portfolios. Along the way we have been building other trading tools as well to help developers. Let me know if you have any other questions! I'd love to dive into more detail about Shrimpy.

Looking nice and very useful tool specially when you are conscious of the market prices. My only suggestion sir is maybe you can add more technical indicators I'm sure that some users might be looking for it too, but overall i like your website and its easy to use. Goodluck!

Thank you for the suggestion! We will certainly look into how we can either integrate with TradingView or provide more technical indicators. Please let me know if there are any other suggestions you have for us!

Thanks!

Looking forward to hearing from everyone here.

I checked out the charts. I really like the idea. It could be useful for arbitrage possibly. The list of exchanges and prices on the left is a really good idea. I'm sure on some of the lower traffic exchanges the price doesn't move as quickly, so you could keep an eye on it and keep a balance on one of those and then whenever the price moves up on the bigger exchanges, you could send the coins over to there. However, the charts are kind of meh. Is there any possibility you could be adding Tradingview charts into it in the future? I'm fairly certain they have an API to incorporate them into your project. It would be very useful having the ability to have all of the extras their charts give you built into your project.

Thank you for the great feedback! I really appreciate it. I'd be happy to investigate how it might be possible to support TradingView. I completely agree they have some incredible charting tools which would be useful. I'll update everyone once we're able to provide more updates like TradingView.

Please let me know if you have any other suggestions!

99  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Historical Crypto Exchange Data API on: September 17, 2019, 11:59:29 PM
I know someone who is working with large amounts of data to be analyzed using an A.I. They use it to check possible formations of different price actions and the history repeating itself kind of data analysis, machine learning, algorithmic approaches, etc. Market prediction is no easy feat, maybe an A.I. could help improve chances with that. So I have a couple of questions with regards to that.

  • How far back can you collect data from all 16 exchanges you are offering?
  • Do you plan to add exchanges in the future?
  • Do you have other practical application with regards to using those data that can be collected?

I'm looking forward to your answer. A.I. is an exciting topic, and I think we are nearly there to correctly have the right approach to something a human cannot decipher easily. We all know those emotions and egos that hinder us from actual productivity.

Thank you for the questions!

Our data goes back decently far for every exchange. Of course it depends on the exchange (Since some have been around longer than others), but we have data which goes back all the way to 2012. This is basically a lifetime for the crypto market.

Yes, we certainly plan on adding as many exchanges as possible as we continue to grow.

There are all sorts of applications which use our data. Some want to use the data to backtest strategies, some want to develop new strategies, some want to research the market, some want to better understand what happened at specific points in time, and so on. There is no limit to what you can do with the data.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!
