5  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER: Entering the Future of ASIC Mining by Inventing It on: June 30, 2013, 07:18:40 PM
I get a feeling that any people in the financial industry would laugh their ass off if they read this thread, saying that less than a 25% p.a. return on ones investment is unacceptable. I mean, the Bitcoin mining industry is risky, but is it that risky?

Conclusion of this view would be, that the shareprice has to be valued much higher. If a 15% p.a. return would be suggested fair, shareprice has to be 10 btc!

When I first saw AM, it was about 1.3btc. Without much research (well, without any really  Cheesy )  I thought that looks too good to be true, and I bought some partial shares. It was rising fast, and I started reading up on it, and my first rough calc I decided potential was close to 10btc so I figured buy all I can before it gets too high. When it stalled around 2.5 I was stumped, but kept buying as funds permitted.  I think we've reached the point where my dividends will go back to hoarding and buying silver now though. when the dividends drop back to a more sustainable level I hope some more speculators will drop out, bringing it back to an affordable level. If dividends remain high... well, I can't really complain, can I?
What I am curious about is the relation to the btc:$ variable. If bitcoin is $1000, does that make AM market cap ridiculous, driving the price down? or does the dividend potential support a share price in the $4000-$10000 range? All very exciting to be a part of, no matter how it plays out!

AM is Bitcoin business, the rate between BTC/USD doesnt really affect price of share

imo ASICMINER/\is not a business it's a "virtual security" per btct.co read and re-read\/FAQ...thanks
6  Economy / Securities / Re: ASICMINER Speculation Thread on: June 30, 2013, 07:14:13 PM
It's going parabolic. AM's value didn't go up 40% in 2 days, so why should the share price be. This is a bubble.

Although I already posted this in the main thread, I'd like commentary on this post: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=99497.msg2550665#msg2550665 (And please consider it a counter post to your bubble theory).

-helixone

I'll also add that AM really can't go parabolic like bitcoin. Because it's a real business, valuation will have some play in sales to slow it down. Bitcoins themselves are impossible to price. Is a bitcoin worth $1 or $1000? Either are valid answers, if you can get someone to pay that, as there is no pricing model or point of comparison.

I'll also add my high end in this model should not be considered a cap, as it was published before FC issued the statement committing him to 800-1000TH by year end.

That statement kinda makes the 1.5 divs in my estimates a surer thing, and more of a floor. (I was initially factoring that even if he didn't keep up percentages, they will in any case make up for it in HW sales.)

NOW, we have to adjust for that, and it's hard because competition could have an outsized impact her. I'm not ready to give a new price, but I no longer would consider above 5.75  overpriced, and am now considering it the actual value of AM, with any price below that undervalued.

fyi/\ASICMINER is not real business it's a "virtual security" on a popular game\/website...thanks

You point being? Perhaps I should have prefaced "real'" with "bitcoin", IE: It's a real "bitcoin" business. I fact I'd argue with the *possible* exception of Gox, it is, and likely continue to remain to be the most valuable bitcoin business in existence.

Factor in that no-one has really caught on yet, and bubble is not something we can talk about yet. Take a look at a Google News search: https://www.google.com/search?q=asicminer&&tbm=nws Only really two articles to speak of, and neither is from your typical "bubble news" factories. (The Men's Daily News article is actually a surprisingly informative intro to bitcoin-assets.)

My point being that perhaps it's a little overextended, and needs "5 mins" to consolidate, but certainly not a bubble, and is likely undervalued yet.

I think the problem is that with a fully refundable fee is that people will create bad securities and spam the system. But now there is no incentive for moderators to vote in a timely fashion so burnside is trying to make an incentive for them to do so (50% refund).

...and then they would just vote whatever to get the additional money. In other words, assets are now approved to give LTC Global voters more money. Would you say No or Abstain to an asset, knowing that it cost you personally to do so?

The only system I can think of that makes sense is the way voting is done in 'normal' elections; set a date, tally votes, the side that gets the most votes win.

why even have votes for BTC "toxic securities" what part of "open source" do you not understand..thanks

Somehow, I doubt that, on several levels. Can you point to some explicit posts back in 2007 that would help clarify your thoughts on Bitcoin?

PRELIMINARY UPDATE

I have submitted the top questions from our poll to Friedcat.

I decided to make the #1 question a request for him to confirm the recent news from rockxie's presentation, and to summarize the plans for the mining farm and ne "Mini Blade".

The other two questions were asking when the first financial report will be, and whether Bitfountain can provide an official hashrate meter for the farm, or official updates about how many hashes they have online.

Confirmation is imperative Smiley
Thanks

Confirmation of what..thanks

16  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: same public key on: June 30, 2013, 05:51:20 PM
Exactly it is that simple.  The Bitcoin network has no concept of "ownership" only authentication.  If one can sign a transaction with a valid private key they can spend the coins.  If someone generates an address which produces the same public key as your address then they can spend your coins.

And what would happen with money that is transferred to an address that exists twice? would this money be doubled?

No.  If you make a backup of your wallet the address exists twice but it doesn't double your money.

Imagine you had a safety deposit box which only had one key and you put $500 into it.  Thus only you can spend the $500, and to do so requires the key.
Now imagine the bank screwed up and gave a second copy of your key to someone else by mistake.  Same deposit box, same $500 inside it but now two keys which open the box.  Has the money been doubled?  Can it be spent twice?  Of course not it simply means whoever use the box first can spend it and once spent the funds are gone.

Bitcoin works the same way.  Your client/wallet doesn't have any coins.  It has a set of keys which allow it to transfer ownership of coins in the blockchain.  Instead of one safety deposit box "your coins" are distributed across tens of thousands of nodes all over the planet.  When you spend coins you send a message to the network saying "hey those coins at address 1xyz... please transfer control of them to 1abc...  I have signed this message with the private key for 1xyz so you know it is a valid request".  The bitcoin network includes the transaction in the next block and the global consensus on where coins are located has been updated.  All nodes now agree the coins are not at 1xyz... they are at 1abc... .

fact is/\people don't trust computers in general and without some kind of physical backup=\/fail..thanks

Why would it get doubled? It is the same address, only more than one person has access to it. It is like sharing your wallet with your brother or whomever.
Are you saying that if I share my wallet with my brother the money isn't doubled? Crap!

HuhHuh

If I have a wallet with 1 BTC and I share it with my brother I still have 1BTC. No doubling there. Only now my brother can spend it and when he does, I cannot.

EDIT:
prolly misunderstand doubling?

easy just print out two or IC3/\physical bitcoins with the same addy and we are all\/good ..thanks

Well, with so far nothing but good news and based on the next div being good I can see it above 5.

I can't see any reason to sell, can you?
I'm not going to shit my pants and jump out just because it went up quickly...it may slip back a bit between now and div day but it always does.

Too much good news pending and long positioned owners for it to drop significantly in the near future.

It would take an atom bomb of bad news to turn it into an AMC type disaster...

Jump out, probably not. Sell, yes. I've tripled my investment in under 2 months.

The worst that happens is you lock in a fat profit. Just make sure to keep some, in case things get stay crazy Smiley

agreed/\smart traders flip out %5O let the free shares ride wait for BTC\/reboot it's how we do it..thanks
