1  Other / Serious discussion / Re: World laughing at the US on: September 27, 2018, 02:45:31 PM
This isn't really new - the majority of the world has been laughing at the US since he was elected.

It kind of a nervous laugh if you know what I mean.

2  Other / Serious discussion / Re: U.S. Hydrogen Economy - A requirement for a sustainable future on: September 27, 2018, 02:38:21 PM
So far, none of your points have disproved the hydrogen economy being possible. If you have actual constructive feedback, it'd be nice rather than just being a naysayer spreading FUD.

This is were I can see that you are a "wannabe" without any scientific nor economic background. When you are proposing a new "solution" YOU have to prove that is feasible. That means that you have to provide at least the basic numbers on which your "theory" (you insult that word) is based. And no, just having a transportation cost is not enough.

Example: "We could put rockets on the moon using butterflies and if you say is not possible you are spreading FUD."  Thatīs exactly what you are saying.

Bah, this is wasting time. BTW, you will find biased reports to justify anything. That is what lobbies are for.

Umm, I'm from academia, abet a different focus (information technology). I'm not a "wannabe".

I've provided sources and information to support claims which you refuted. Now you're saying "the sources are fake!!!!!". If you're too lazy to double check my work, fuck off?

If you want, I can provide DOI for each bit of research; eg; 10.1016/j.ijhydene.2014.05.078
On the tungsten carbide synthesis for PEM fuel cell application - Problems, challenges and advantages

The provable part of "your work" is basically contained here and there is a good rationale behind producing hydrogen in Nuclear Plants, yet in no way by the means suggested.

Even you don't have a background in energies or economics, you do understand that your proposal has to make economic sense. I can't "double check your work" because you have not provided any numbers of your own that I could possibly check. Again, this is so basic that it does not make sense to argue.

3  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How can we help improve and to build a decent forum. on: September 26, 2018, 09:55:29 PM
Letīs make it simple:

- Read the post about rules. It is pinned here https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1689727.0

- Post in the correct boards.

- Search before you ask.

- Be polite, however posts like "nice", "thanks", "good idea" are not welcome.

- Never, ever repeat your post or copy/paste content from the internet.

- Donīt ask for merit. There are too many posts about it.

You should be fairly safe with this.

5  Other / Serious discussion / Re: Would DAO leads to a society that does not require morals? on: September 26, 2018, 02:59:55 PM

Or should I not even worry about this? Will a moral compass no longer be necessary?
After writing this post, I thought of another possibility of how the future people can organize themselves.

This is the largest XX century DAO experiment https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Soviet_Union . It did not work well, perhaps because they did not have crypto yet.

The DAO concept has strong similarities with Anarchism and Cooperativism. Rather than not having moral rules or references, they had in fact to be put in place to regulate at least the internal relations of the individuals. Without a moral reference there is no implicit guarantee of behaviour or honesty and that makes society impossible.
6  Other / Serious discussion / Re: U.S. Hydrogen Economy - A requirement for a sustainable future on: September 26, 2018, 02:43:26 PM
I think this post contains mostly ideas that are imaginative, but terribly inaccurate or simply wrong.

I propose we replace our dependence on oil with two new dependencies; water and energy. When you take energy, in the form of electricity, and apply it to water at a specific voltage, you can actually split the oxygen and hydrogen bond, forming some good old Hydrogen and some pure Oxygen.

Hydrogen nowadays is produced in refineries. The reason is that the dissociation of water in H and O2 is very energy consuming. Its easy to put forward solutions if you donīt have to do numbers.

A renewable way to solve this problem would be huge wind farms and solar panels to convert the local water source into hydrogen. However, it'll take a while to build all the turbines and solar that we'd require to replace gasoline with electric.

Again, the problem is the costs. It does not add-up.

The energy required depends on the state of the water, when it's in a vapor form, it requires less energy to split, because it already has heat energy.
With that in mind, there's another really, obvious solution. Just rig up a fancy steam engines with a nuclear reactor equipped. Not only do nuclear generators already have the requirement of water, it produces massive amounts of energy. Also, it's output is water vapor, exactly what we need to make a lot of hydrogen.

The reason why the nuclear power plants produce vapor is because they put it through a turbine to generate electricity in a quite efficient process. And before you suggest anything "obvious" with that, learn the basics of it.  What you propose would cost x10 times more at least. Also, you will be generating even more radioactive waste that will last for centuries to come.

If that is not enough, simply know that the water used is normally radiated. You donīt want that outside the reactor even if it is the secondary cooling circuit water.

Ideally, we could bootstrap our hydrogen production infrastructure with nuclear very cost effectively (as in $1.80 / GGE (gas gallon equivalent) in 100% clean fuel).

Nope.

Logistics
That leaves logistics, how do you transport hydrogen?
Well, there's actually several ways. I'm going to leave out the bootstrapping method, mostly because I lost my train of thought.
The idea way would be to use pipeline. I think it'd be a good idea to retrofit our existing pipeline infrastructure and build out where we can. We can use pipelines and work at phasing out natural gas lines (because hydrogen can be burned for heat, just like your natural gas heat).
Safety is normally highly regulated when it comes to gas lines, I don't see how this would be any different. I think it's safer than many existing pipelines. With your irrational fears annulled, let's continue on.

Get familiar with the liquefaction of gases and the cost implicated, the design parameters of oleducts and the engineering constrains. In a world without physics laws your idea is great. You are not mad, you simply think that engineering is what you see in the Discovery channel.

Missing concepts, filling in the gaps

I wouldnīt know where to begin honestly.
7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: What is mining? My understanding! on: September 26, 2018, 12:55:16 PM
... it is basically a process through which blocks (that contains information about transactions) are verified. For that miners has to perform simple calculations Nodes (Computers) does that for miners. The one who performs it the first gets the reward .Thats how all the blocks got mined!
...

To understand mining I suggest you consider two different aspects:
a) Why is mining necessary at all. What is the purpose of mining.
b) What is the process of mining.

The (b) part is only relevant for developers or people who need to actually act on the technical level. As you say, it is related to solving a computer intensive problem with the best result (the one with more "work") for a given block.

The most interesting part is actually (a). Mining is a process that secures the Bitcoin network. It is mainly designed to avoid any malicious actor to be able to tamper with the network and it is IMO the greatest achievement of Blockchain.
8  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: The price of most ERC20 tokens depends on the price of the ether! on: August 22, 2018, 03:38:43 PM
It seems to me not correct that the price of most ERC20 tokens depends on the price of the ether! What do you think?

Most do yes, but not all. Those that have an immediate dividend possibility are clearly in demand and they do preserve the value in terms of fiat.

Also, I have observed that coins related to crypto exchanges frequently preserve their value quite well because these are value backed by exchangeīs fees, so their value is good even when other tokens fall because at the end of the day you will normally sell coins and pay a fee for it and it does not matter if the market is good or bad. In that category you will find Binance, OK and similar coins.
9  Economy / Speculation / Re: Is it going to pass $20k again? on: August 20, 2018, 10:23:54 PM
My mother and I had a talk about bitcoin last December 2017 or January 2018, the time where bitcoin is on its ATH. She predicted it will not go up beyond $20,000. Do you still think it will reach again its ATH?

I think that it may go over 20k but it is not going to happen this year because the people are trapped into the highs of january and that is marking the season. The trading activity is quite intense, even when BTC drops in value and even many play with short positions it is very likely that someone who bough at 5000 will sell at around 7000, and that is enhanced by people who bought at 7000 and are eager to close their positions since many months ago.
10  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: bounty manager on: August 13, 2018, 12:09:58 PM
who is a bounty manager who is friendly and kind

Are you looking for a bounty manager of a friend?  Tongue

Bounty managers deal with many people, sometimes even thousands of people and the best traits for them is not as much to be friendly as to be fair, helpful and most of all dedicated. Participants  that have problems can normally understand that there are rules and that the manager will not break them, but what really kills any managerīs reputation is not being available for the community and not answering promptly to the issues.
11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: The recent price is rising, can I continue to buy cryptocurrency, why? on: July 25, 2018, 05:30:53 PM
You should accumulate as much crypto as possible these days, the prices are set go up even if they are less attractive than last week. There is a saying about not trying to catch a thousand kilo stone when is falling from a cliff, but I think that the cliff has finished at least for this month. August will be slow and I really hope, for my hodlings shake, that September shows a green face.
12  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: What makes listing of coins so high on: July 20, 2018, 08:30:24 PM
Clearly the exchanges provide high visibility and liquidity and that is integral to the value of a token, since a top exchange will actually give that easy of buy and sell. That happens even with the traditional company shares and stocks, the price is very linked to what exchanges list them, for example the same share can increase up to two fold just because it is in the NASDAQ index. Of course, the exchanges are going to take as much advantage as possible from this, after all they are making a nice contribution to the value.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Should we compensate bounty hunters when ICOs fail? on: July 19, 2018, 11:33:40 AM
No.
And let me tell you a little secret.
Do you know why everyone hates bounty hunters?
Because they are entitled, whiny, unprofessional, leeches who crash the value of a coin, not help.

Let me tell you another secret. Do you know why investors hate bounty hunters AFTER THE ICO IS OVER, because they are unprofessional fortune seekers that donīt like paying to those that made their ICO a success. Bounty hunters are accused of dumping and selling, so what? Bounties are normally 1 to 3% of the tokens, so if there is demand for the ICO the price will hold perfectly. The problem is that ICOs are no longer oversubscribed due to the greed of the teams and the unrealistic marketing campaigns, and the they have to put the blame on someone else.
14  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: [11-07-2018] Bancor Struggles to Recover Lost Tokens on: July 13, 2018, 11:36:27 AM
It is very sad really, I guess that part of the issue is creating those white hacker contest. Even the best guy that finds a bug worth millions is tempted by the dark side.

It is difficult to tell if a exchange has actually been hacked or if some of the people that actually have some management responsibility have decided to fill-up their own tanks taking advantage of the difficulty on tracing or finding evidence when these hacks happen. From a merely logical point, if these people think they will gain more by stealing, they may do so, provided that the chances to get caught are slim.

The Bancor ICO managed to raise a lot of capital (more than 150M USD) even with relatively low rakings and a ridiculous hard cap. I donīt trust it.
15  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do you make a good announcement? on: July 11, 2018, 10:39:38 PM
This forum is normally a good place to start launching your token. An announcement must set a few things clear for anyone interested, so you will be addressing at the same time:
- Small investors
- Large investors.
- Bounty hunters
- Future users
- Other people.

So the basics for this are clear, firstly make sure that your project is clear and sound and ask others for their views. Regarding the ANN, ensure that you have a decent designer and make a really compelling visual display. At the same time all the information required for any of those users should be there, and it should be enough to convince them to go to your web and keep reading.
16  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Speculation (Altcoins) / Re: Time to buy? on: June 30, 2018, 04:35:44 PM
The week has been low and some bears got hold of all the market, and I do see that as an opportunity to get deeper into some of the coins that I think will go high. You may want to look into some of the latest models of blockchain that are aiming to increase the performance of the networks and transactions. Bear in mind that there is no possible competition or substitute to Bitcoinīs huge community, development and branding, but there is room for new coins and chains that have clear value or different use cases.
17  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Adult website 90million daily users can now pay with Tron Zencash on: June 30, 2018, 04:33:05 PM
This is a very wrong strategic move by TRX, I think that these sites are going to scare away any possible institutional investment. Most of the investors and teams in crypto know that the next step in this technology is to be able to capture the institutional grade investment that comes with High Risk investment funds, typically, hedge funds and technological funds. For most of these institutional investors Porn is a no-go area. Anyway tron is probably a coin I would not hold, since it is pretty much the definition of empty hype.
18  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: If an IPO company and now an ICO, what is the problem? on: June 29, 2018, 12:49:25 PM
If an IPO company and now an ICO, what is the problem?
If an ICO project like Amazon Hub Lockers and deploying a whole country to Asia then are people interested about it?
As my know , big company as Amazon will not publish any ICO project , the reason is simple . They don't need do that .
1)IPO and ICO is different , ICO has a very big risk and maybe you will lost all your money .
2)IPO is more stable than ICO , but you get maybe is not very much as ICO .

You are absolutely wrong. There are low risk IPOs and high risk IPOs. You can potentially loose all your investment in any of the two. A very famous case, with billions of dollars lost is here
19  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Discussions about Bitcoin with merit awards on: June 29, 2018, 12:46:23 PM
In practice, miners ensure the safety of the net by performing the PoW computations and then the nodes reach a consensus on which of the proofs of work has more "work" on it and thus the "mined" block is adopted as the valid one.

It is true that miners donīt mine bitcoins, instead they collect the block fees (a good reason why they donīt want to increase the block size) and receive some bitcoins for it, but the bitcoins are not created, they are already there since the genesis block.
20  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Where can I invest as a newbee on: June 05, 2018, 11:55:14 AM
I think that the best options are the large coins, that is, the top 5 or top 10 in marketcap. It is less likely for these to dip largely, so even if you loose (and you will loose sometimes being new on all this) you will be compensating and waiting with a solid porfolio for the good times. Use the money you can spare and HODL.
