381  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Cypherfunks[FUNK]! Internet band & coin. For the musicians! New bounties up. on: March 17, 2014, 01:56:36 PM
It's difficult to pack everything into one page
AGREED! :-D

so I thought the homepage is just a teaser. Then the curious could follow the rabbit hole down further.
Umm, what rabbit hole? That was my problem. Got to the site and was looking for further infos on articles like "what is a crypto currency" or "how to get involved" .. links to your blog. just didn't see anything else besides the video.

(bootstrap navbar with important links? navbar-bottom or such maybe?)

P.S. http://94.23.196.92:8080 is now almost done. sortable tables are completed. only "ping" is left and I'm stuck at the moment how to implement it^^
382  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Cypherfunks[FUNK]! Internet band & coin. For the musicians! New bounties up. on: March 17, 2014, 11:56:45 AM
Just a comment. I don't think the current website of www.thecypherfunks.com helps anybody that gets there. not enough information on what it is, why he should get involved, etc. (sent soundcloud and homepage links to an old friend that's been into electronic music for quite some time now)
383  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Cypherfunks[FUNK]! Internet band & coin. For the musicians! New bounties up. on: March 17, 2014, 06:51:02 AM
Congratulations everyone. Here's the result of the giveaway!

Took a little longer than expected, but didn't want the huge miner to get all your bonus FUNKs that were intended to make smaller miners happy Wink

Guess what I've been working on!

A p2pool node scanner! Since we've got some more nodes coming up, we need to make sure there's a proper list!

http://94.23.196.92:8080

Please consider donating some BTC 1HLstfdaXpV48BnTpG1zKRrZaRFXmAezeU
It's been hard work!

not completed yet, but it's in a working state and is only missing a few things like sorting, ping times and local hashrates.

EDIT: local hashrates (local_nonstale_hashrates) and version numbers are added. global speed is global_nonstale_hashrate.
EDIT2: Aaaaaaand it now features a daily global hashrate chart Wink enjoy! time to go to bed bow^^
385  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] [KRN] Ekrona - not only for Vikings. Scrypt, KGW, NO PREMINE, 3.3 m.blocks on: March 16, 2014, 08:31:36 PM
Ekrona P2Pool Mining Platform
URL: stratum+tcp://94.23.196.92:9449
USER: your_own_ekrona_wallet_address
PASS: 123

I also suggest setting some optimized values in your cgminer (Main Screen hit 'S')

queue=0
scan-time=2
expiry=8

These values make sure that you don't get your work rejected because you solved it based on old data.

Now please support the network by spreading the hashrate of Ekrona (shouldn't all be mining on one single pool).
I've put around 10 MH/s on this p2pool to get it started properly and I'd like you to join and have your share of it!

Why should you use a P2Pool? It's a more secure way of mining cryptocurrencies. The block generation code implements the addresses of each miner and pays directly towards your walletaddress instead of a central wallet on the pool server. Thievery is impossible because of that. Further more, it actually includes YOU as the miners in the currency's network and is way more fun than a simple MPOS pool.

Of course, your support is appreciated at KRN: KCG6wzb62cxmrvk2GNPUT4A4yQPACbhfsw

Please, spread the hashrate some more and join us!

Here's the temporal retargetting I was speaking about earlier. Anything we can grab from that to improve diff adjustments easier?

basically, it should be something very simple (less prone to hacking Wink ) and effective.

  • retarget with every single block
  • increases by a maximum of 5% per block
  • decreases by a maximum of 25% per block
  • retarget timeframe from the past 64 blocks?
  • crosscheck with the last 16 blocks for tremendous differences (quicker downadjustments)

does that call too much for a multipool attack? (then maybe 15% down) not sure what I'm saying here, just a few thoughts:D

Here's a publicly available p2pool git for cypherfunks. all settings / images included. just the usual setup and starting, it automatically connects to the main node!

Simon, you can put that link on the frontpage too Wink

that's what I meant (offtopic now) small asics for scrypt that are affordable and cheaper to maintain: better doof to scrypt mining than a gpu

Any idea if Funks KGW is susceptible to the time warp exploit?  I know there was talk of taking down Aurora Coin with it if they implemented KGW, and that's one reason Doge is going with Digishield instead of KGW.  With the current difficulty so low I don't see it being exploited now, but possible in the future?

I've looked into time warp exploit (and need some more time to understand it properly). Afaik it hasn't been done yet? Has any KGW coins been exploited with this (if so, link please)? I'll definitely have a look at Digishield (read about it when Dogecoin implemented it) & I will definitely look into Darkcoin's DGW as well (seems to solve time warp exploit, which is awesome). Currently I want to avoid a hard-fork where possible, and for now it seems to be fine. We have a lot of new non-crypto people joining, so would like to avoid hard forks where possible. And if we do, do it once off and as irregular as possible. Difficult to get the word out to the non-crypto enthusiasts on why they have to download new wallets. Ideally, a web wallet in the future will avoid these problems so that the crypto enthusiasts that help run full nodes can update in time.

With regards to ASICs. It does exclude the average person from getting involved who does not have access to money for ASICs (like me). However, as Florian said, it's a trade-off against chain security. There hasn't been any large-scale attacks on smaller chains, but it is always something that worries me.

It's important to remember. We are going to get a lot of people involved with this that don't really care about the technical stuff at all. They will care about the music and that there is a workable currency. They don't care about ASIC resistance or KGW like we do. What we need is a secure chain with happy miners that we don't have to change too much. It's a fine balance. Let's hope we get it right.

Will look into Digishield & DGW. Cheers!

look at heavy coins diff adjustment algo. that seemed interesting too Wink

there are small asics as well for the same cost as a GPU, so even smaller can invest imho. Wink
Digishield and DGW have been out of my knowledge until now. will have to read into it too
391  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Cypherfunks[FUNK]! Internet band & coin. For the musicians! New bounties up. on: March 16, 2014, 03:13:32 PM
I have a technical question for the team - has there been any thought put into implementing any of the ASIC-resistant or whale-resistant algos? Darkcoin's DGW is absolutely great, and solves the issue of such things as happened yesterday when the 100MH whale attacked the Cyphership ;-) Also, we need some innovation technically rather than just socially, as I'm 100% certain that when ASICs turn up it's going to make most stock scrypt coins totally infeasible. I'm more than happy to help with implementation if anybody's interested.

To be honest? Cypherfunk is technically one of the finest scrypt-based currencies. It does have a proper code, well working KGW, etc.
A simple miner with lot's of hashrate isn't going to break the coin - and neither my pool Tongue All that happens is a few more blocks than usual per minute and a rise in difficulty.

Switching a coin to a totally different algorithm isn't something that should be done and I believe hasn't been done ever before, or have I missed something?

EDIT: ASIC-resistance <--- you know that ASICs are a GOOD thing, right? Properly securing the network with high hashrates (actually all known ASICs today for scrypt aren't more powerful than gpus for the same price, just more energy efficient) and consuming less power - making a coins network cheaper to maintain and let's it be used more widely.

Bitcoin's ASICs are a blessing for the network. it hasn't hurt it - to the contrary. That huge rise in hashpower made it way more secure than before and by kicking out cpus and gpus for bitcoin "mining" (maintenance of the network) it drastically lowers the waste of energy world-wide for that network. the goal is to further reduce (i.e. by using 22nm asics such as neptune's) power requirements for a high hashrate.
Just my thoughts - but I'm sure some would agree on that^^

EDIT: let's assume you'd create an algorithm that addresses the GPU's vector engines used in OpenGL games for example (basically making a gpu-only coin rather than cpu-only), it would make a coin that would only properly work with a GPU that uses a lot power. the costs are way too high to maintain it in the long-term. the value/price of a cryptocurrencies is not only estimated by trades, but can also be estimated by the investment needed to run it and the continuous power requirements to keep the hardware running.

there it goes again... 100mhs boom^^ lol (certainly not me!^^)

oh well, not too shabby for you guys. PPLNS is made for that - to protect you. he's pretty much finding lots of blocks for all. if you are a steady miner, you get more payout from blocks than one that comes and goes every hour or so.

WoW - again those 100MH/s guys active^^  lol Wink P2Pool seems to handle it properly, though it shakes the share diff up a bit (but not for too long anymore as I had reduced the lookback times when I upgraded the server)

http://94.23.196.92:36363 (I still have to get that new interface coming that I promised a while ago :-/ been so busy lately ;( not cool)

Great to see the work being done around The Cypherfunks. Glad to be part of it.

ANNOUNCEMENT
  • I will be giving away another 250,000 FUNKs sometime today to all active miners on the pool. Make sure you get your shares up! Wink
  • This giveaway is funded by the pool's income! Wink
  • Remember, queue=0, scan-time=2, expiry=8 keeps rejects low and pays better towards your hashrate!
  • url = stratum+tcp://94.23.196.92:36363
  • user = your_wallet_address
  • pass = 123

EDIT: Donated 100k to Seps Pack, 100k to Faucet and 800k to TipBot. That's my 1mil I promised Wink

Marscoin MRS P2Pool - Mining Platform

What is a P2Pool? It's a decentralized mining pool network. Usually multiple nodes act as one big pool together. However, due to this fresh launch, this is the only node available at the moment. So what do you gain from this "P2Pool" then? You're basically finding mini-blocks for a sharechain and whenever a share of this sharechain is greater or equal to the difficulty of Marscoin (MRS), a block is found and the payout is immediate! In the block creation code, your wallet address is implemented and the block pays directly to you. No middleman! No risk!

Please, give it a try!

Pool is working nicely! Block found! Wink

Id Love to see more hash rate on it. Keep in mind, a balanced network is far more stable and secure than a single pool with all the hash power. (Which essentially isn't a network anymore Wink )

Is someone willing to create some Ekrona merchandise Cheesy? Coffee cups, t-shirts, caps, hats, underwear, pants, you name it, Ekrona got it!?

Some panties would be nice. Would give us guys a chance to include our women in those efforts and have something else to enjoy while looking at cryptos Cheesy

I sent you some support Smiley Good work!

Oh, thank you! Smiley

P.S. By properly setup I mean correct values for nSubsidy settings with proper block halving integrated in the netcode. A share target time of 24seconds (works good with the 200s block time for lower rejects).
P.S.S. If anybody is interested in hosting additional nodes in the future, I'll make the code available.

This is a wonderful cryptocurrency.
Here are a few "fun" facts why I consider it superior to most others:

A ) it's got its own block identifier (hex code) - most don't bother even changing it from litecoin's prefix^^
B ) it's not using "coin" - woohoo! that word get's annoying Wink
C ) properly adjusted nSubsidy code (all blocks equal before halving, no "superblocks" no premine blocks, etc.

Now with that in mind, I've taken my time to create a properly setup P2Pool Mining Platform for this fantastic currency.

Ekrona P2Pool Mining Platform

Is there any other bounties that can be established or donated to other than the current seps pack one?  Like for creation of a tip bot or faucet?  While I can't program myself, I could see me donating towards a bounty fund for this type of thing.. Normally that's why some coins do premine, so they have coin they can offer for such things.. but there was no premine on this so no incentives, other than the seps packs at this point...  Some good press right now, good time to get this stuff going faster.

that's a great idea. Simon? I'll donate 1mil FUNKs right away!
400  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: The Cypherfunks[FUNK]! Internet band & coin. For the musicians! [Big press] on: March 14, 2014, 08:39:49 PM
I like the open source music aspect of this, I can see the potential of Cypherfunks the band taking off... the coin needs markets though, something to do with them, someway to draw people into wanting to use them or have them.  I think a lot of people now have what I've started calling Alt Coin Fatigue.. including myself.. I now am looking for something that makes a coin stand out, and has a real use... most of them there is not a dang thing to do with them other than go "oh, shiny.."  The music part I already like and is different, so once a way to really use the coins that benefit in some way it can have the potential to really take off..  something like being able to directly tip funk for songs, loops, etc, and even pay for such services related to music maybe.  The simplest way would be to be able to download an MP3 for like 1000 Funk, but then that kind of goes against free open source.. and of course the artist may need to convert the funk into cash, so it's got to have some value and market.. don't know if that's the direction this coin wants to take though.

In the mean time, since my hardware was long ago paid off and then some, it's like freaking winning the lotto cherry picking all these easy coins that people are missing out on mining!   Grin  So shiny!

not quite there yet - but going for smaller, more promising coins, is actually more fun as it's easier to become a real part of it Smiley
