1321  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Decentralized Mining & Preventing Centralization in Pools on: November 20, 2013, 04:38:47 AM
The basic idea is this:  blocks have a random vesting time between 1 day and 1 year with an average of 6 months.   Any pool operator would have to maintain 6 months of inventory and operating expenses on their books while exposed to price fluctuations in the underlying currency.
If implemented, this intent could be easily defeated by an external BTC derivatives market which would undoubtedly form.

I can login put performance has been like shit lately. It is very difficult to complete a transaction. I hope kangasbros upgrades his servers to cope with the increased demand.

Can I still run 2 November Jupiters on a single 120V 15A circuit? I recently had an electrician install additional circuits in my basement and after all the mining equipment was intstalled I ended up with one spare 15A circuit, which was why I ordered 2 November Jupiters based on the 600W power consumption of the earlier version. My load center is now maxed out and I can't add any more circuits.

Wasn't ebay/paypal kinda against bitcoin miners? Pretty sure I read that somewhere...

yes they are, if you buy some minning staff on ebay, paypal may block your account
Just list the minning staff on eBay as box of funs and PayPal will be OK with that.

Regarding the apparent delivery to wrong destinations based on tracking numbers, keep in mind that USPS tracking numbers get recycled - sometimes too quickly. You may not be looking at the tracking information for your particular shipment.

Got my October kit yesterday and I'm happy to find out that it fits the Spotswood v2 case perfectly. The auto-IP configuration script worked flawlessly too.

With just fans and no heatsinks it only hashed  at 400-450 GH/s due to the H-cards frequently shutting down. With a single goxed-style copper heatsink behind the regulator the nonce rate went up to 525 GH/s. There is still plenty of shutting down of the H-cards going on, and I would probably need to add more heatsinks when I find the time.

IMHO these Oct H-cards come a little to hot from the factory for the average mining enthusiast. Fortunately you have the option of turning the voltage down.

The picture below shows it sitting on top of an August kit.

I can't wait for the late-night Infomercials to start playing on Television...

"Buy One 5GH's miner, and get a second unit ABSOLUTELY FREE!"
"But wait ! There's more ! Call in the next 10 minutes and we'll upgrade you to 7GH's FOR FREE !"
"You'll also receive this ceramic coffee mug at no extra charge !"

They just need to find a sleazeball like Don LaPre to show people "how I mined $50,000 a week from my one-bedroom apartment".

Add sinks ... and reduce STRESS in your life Wink.

I don't know about that ... sticking on $400 worth of tiny heatsinks per rig was a pretty stressful and time consuming experience for me. I wish somebody would make custom heatsinks for these.

1329  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: November 06, 2013, 09:15:18 AM
Yeah so that one board is still bad.  Keeps shutting itself off even if I downclock it so the onboard temps are only 30-40C.  I guess I'll have to talk to dave about RMAing it.  This happens no matter what slot it's in.

Same thing happened to me, chips were cool enough. Turned out that the power regulator was too hot, despite heatsinks (I measured 90°C with IR-Thermometer). I moved the 3 fans from the top to the side of the regulator, which helped a lot. Now my 10 Boards are stable at 345-355 GH/s.
Aren't these new H-cards supposed to have trim pots that would allow you to reduce the voltage output of the regulator? The voltage preset at the factory may just be a little too high for your operating environment. This symptom was common with the August H-cards if you "over pencil mod" them. I have yet to receive my Oct kits, but if this were to happen to mine I would try reducing the voltage a little on those cards that were shutting down.

It doesn't need to be pretty...fairly efficient with cold room temps. Anyone know how much power the stock AMD fans draw when you wind them up to 5K rpm?

If you don't look too closely at the hardware, you'd think it was early 2011 all over again.

52x
62x
104x

Shipped!

Order 67x not shipped yet. Sad

They're likely bundling stuff together to consolidate shipping costs.  I'd imagine they are in the 400s right now.

I'm not sure of that as I have a nice size order and I'm order #36X  Sad
I hope they are not going by pay date, because I have an order #41x that remained unpaid for a long time while waiting for CC to start working again (which of course never happened).
1332  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: 4x BitFury Chips STOLEN on: November 01, 2013, 04:03:41 PM
If they were lost after you arrived in the US, it is possible the TSA might have randomly searched the luggage and taken the chips because they couldn't figure out what they were. Usually they leave a notice in the suitcase when they do this kind of thing, but not always.
1333  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Solo Mining vs Pool Mining ? on: October 30, 2013, 06:29:52 PM
In a month or two, solo mining/gambling will be way better than the .0001 BTC/day that 280GH/s will earn, lol.

I agree with this assessment as well.  It will be better to roll the dice on some or all assets in a few months from now unless one has free electricity to run mining equipment.  Right now I think its better to diversify the risk (hashrate).
That's like saying saving $2/week will never add up to anything so you might as well spend the money on the NY Lotto.
1334  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: Will a Sep/Oct KNC jupiter ever ROI? on: October 30, 2013, 01:41:28 AM
Are you guys leaving the default settings on the genesis block calculator again?  130% per month growth - sure, that sustainable forever, no problem.

Actually, 130% is too low, increasing it to 150% would be safer.
You want to be safe or accurate? One the one hand you do want to avoid making a foolish investment, but on the other hand you don't want to be too conservative in your calculations that you end up never buying a miner even when doing so could have made you a profit.
1335  Other / CPU/GPU Bitcoin mining hardware / Re: AVALON ASIC BITCOIN MINER MINI on: October 28, 2013, 11:48:49 AM
Why don't you just cloud mind instead?  These things are going for 1,000 to 1,400 USD on ebay which is pretty expensive.
Why buy from eBay? They are available for 4 BTC now direct from the Avalon Store which includes DHL shipping from China. Buying from eBay would save you at most a couple of days.
1336  Economy / Computer hardware / Re: [FS] **Version 2**: All aluminum open air case for BitFury miners on: October 25, 2013, 05:22:48 PM
Are these still in production?
1337  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: October 25, 2013, 01:12:17 PM

Does the backside of the regulator even get hot?

Very. I've put copper heatsinks behind the regulators - not directly because that space is blocked by other components. The heastsinks do get burning hot.
1338  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Avalon ASIC users thread on: October 25, 2013, 08:38:03 AM
Yeah, a lot of the ckolivas firmware options that worked so well on B1 and B2 Avalons don't seem to work on the new Avalon Mini I just got.

Kind of disappointing, because I didn't buy the Mini to "ROI". I wanted to run it quietly under-clocked with a low fan setting in the corner of my office and use it as a conversation piece. Even at 256 MHz the fan is a little too loud and it seems like you can no longer directly control the fan speed with cgminer (at least not down to the low levels that I want). In the end, I decided to just unplug it.
1339  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] US/North American Bitfury sales now open ***full prototype pics*** on: October 24, 2013, 10:53:08 AM
My Raspberry PI got shorted out, a diode on the backside burnt out. I had upgraded from v1 Mboard over to v2.3 Mboard. It lasted just 5 minutes or so before burning out. Now back to v1 Mboard. I think the PI does not like being fed power through the pins, and rather expects a micro-usb plug.
I am not sure if the version of the M-board matters. A month ago my RPi lost its GPIO functionality when I powered down a v1 M-board. I wonder if putting a decoupling capacitor between the GPIO power pin and ground would help?

i really don't get the Tea Party.
The Tea Party has changed a lot since the early days. Initially it was just about fiscal responsibility. Now it stands for a whole bunch of right wing crap and has lost much of its original focus. I am embarrassed to admit to having supported it back then.
