1141  Economy / Service Discussion / Re: The database of all of the bitcoin private keys on: April 28, 2014, 11:08:08 PM
I am pretty sure once you enter a real private key into that text box at the top of the page and submit the form back to the server your private key will be stored in some database. Grin
1142  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Swedish ASIC miner company kncminer.com on: April 28, 2014, 10:51:14 PM
And no, I'm not an abused KNC lover. Why do people feel the need to judge others on our decisions? I chose this option because it shipped fast and a refund was out of the question for me.

why is a refund out of the question for you? their ghs/btc is average at best.

Maybe taxes? I know I kept my Neptune orders because getting a refund wired to my bank account would have really messed up my tax situation.
1143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Just bought my first tangible thing with bitcoin - so exciting on: April 28, 2014, 12:45:14 AM
there alot of sites that accept BTC for goods? I really havent heard of many, but also havent done a whole lot of research.

Check out gyft.com.
That's kind of cheating using a third party.

However I do find the Amazon gift card with the $2000 limit very flexible.
1144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: So, what does a bitcoin WEIGH? on: April 28, 2014, 12:00:12 AM
If I am storing my bitcoin key on 256 light bulb.
Given a lightbulb weight 10 gram, my key weight is 2kg 560g.
Given that my key store 0.05 bitcoin, it makes around 51 kg by BTC.

But I can influence the weight of a bitcoin by storing more on my key, or using lighter light bulb.
I think it is about time for you to switch to LEDs.
1145  Bitcoin / Mining speculation / Re: who's going to make the first 50 T/H miner? on: April 27, 2014, 08:16:09 PM
The problem is the chips wont be getting much faster. 20nm chips is about as far as they will go for quite some time. My prediction is you won't see 10TH rigs till next year

What if we get to 1nm? Then all we can do is build ridiculously large rigs with loads of chips in them, so it has more hashrate.
1 nm won't be possible using silicon. That is about 2 atoms wide.
1146  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: I dont like 2FA ...so ? on: April 27, 2014, 07:58:46 PM
I would like to know how an attack takes place on a non-2FA online wallet that is not possible on a 2FA online wallet ?
One basic example:
- Your password to your online wallet was somehow obtained by a hacker (through Trojan, key logger, whatever)
- Attacker attempts to log in to your account to transfer your coins out.
- Userid/password authentication succeeds.
- 2FA authentication fails because hacker does not have your phone/Yubikey/OTP token.
- Attempt to steal your coins fail.

On the other hand without 2FA after entering your userid/password successfully the hacker has full control of your online account.
1147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin or Gold? What would you pick? on: April 26, 2014, 09:15:57 PM
I would take the bitcoins,  seeing that they weigh nothing.
1148  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: I didn't pay capital gains tax on bitcoin sales to IRS today on: April 26, 2014, 05:35:01 PM
The point of this thread is for me to prove the IRS can't prove what bitcoins you sold - even if you make a direct challenge about it.

By posting a message on this forum, you are not making a direct challenge to the IRS. If you want to make a direct challenge to the IRS, have someone report you to the IRS and we will then see whether you are right or wrong. I have the feeling that they will be able to find something because, as stated before, the ramifications of your financial expenditures do not stop on your person but they continue and reach anyone you have been in contact with.

I think you are correct and I am quite certain that the IRS and perhaps other "three-letter" agencies have plants here.

They tend to do that sort of thing, you know.

Stay legal people; find ways to minimise tax and go on!

My $.02.

Wink

Government informants have been the scum of society for millenia, the same scum that every police state inevitably slips on and breaks its neck in its final demise.

If you welcome and support Stasi tactics from your government you are one sick MF.

You are welcome to your scum and the law of the jungle they usher in ...
Scum or otherwise the reality is that this is an open forum and I would expect government informants and agents to be present here.
1149  Economy / Economics / Re: Worst bitcoin decision you've ever made? on: April 26, 2014, 02:51:34 PM
Being too loose with early BTC that I mined or bought for cheap. Examples:

- Opened an SR account and deposited 100 BTC in 2011 even though I don't do drugs. Never bought anything and forgot all about it until the Feds shut down SR and seized the funds.
- Left around 500 BTC in a Pirate Pass through account before he defaulted.
- Had around 200 BTC in a Starfish BCB deposit account before he too defaulted.
- Bought 2 AM blades (13 GH/s) for 50 BTC each.

On the other hand, I made plenty of good decisions that more than offset the bad ones.
1150  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Proof of location on: April 26, 2014, 11:48:27 AM
Augmented reality games or not, if real value were ever associated with proof-of-location then I'd imagine people would attempt to develop and sell location remoting services. For the system to work the value of the proof has to be less than the cost of "spoofing" a location.

In a somewhat related example, I knew of somebody who needed to trade as a non-US person on a well known Bitcoin exchange. The cost of setting up a non-US account and a secure computer in a foreign country was well within his budget given the particular circumstances. So he went ahead and did it although it cost him almost $10K. The setup served him well and in spite of AML/KYC checks he was able to trade from a fake country under a someone else's name.
1151  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: More bitcoins are domant, what does this mean? on: April 26, 2014, 10:46:17 AM
According to dormant bitcoin chart at http://www.dormantbitcoin.com/, ...
What exactly does this chart show? The fraction of addresses that received coins but did not spend them? There is no description on the site. OP if this is your site you need to improve it.

If this is so, it doesn't necessarily mean hoarding. You also need to look at the total number of addresses observed within that period to make a better determination of what happened. For example, people breaking up wallets containing large number of BTC's into multiple smaller wallets would also give you the same effect on the chart.
1152  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: AntMiner S2 1TH/s Miner (1w/GH/s) on: April 26, 2014, 01:39:29 AM

I downloaded that program and the Bitmain.img file in the quotes but My win32 disk Imager program doesn't offer any option to format. I can format in windows explorer under fat32 I used "Default Unit Size" as Allocation unit size optionquick format checked. I tried to do this to one miner and it worked! Only after i bought a new micro sd card, I think re-writing the micro sd a bunch of times corrupted it. I'll try the same on the other two now.

OK Update.. Good news all 3 1TH/s miners are hashing, the problem was with the Micro SD cards. 3 new Verbatim 8gb cards & it works.
If you SSH into the OS and do a shutdown prior to powering down, you will greatly reduce the chances of trashing your SD card. The problem is likely to happen when you power off while a program is writing data to the file system. MBP Bitfury rigs delivered last year also had the same problem. Of course, getting good SD cards like you did also helps a lot.
1153  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Antminer S1 got shot on: April 24, 2014, 11:53:21 PM
i think antminers got shot
What caliber? If .22LR you might be able to fix. Anything larger probably not a chance.

1154  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Two guys are chasing a Bitcoin thief on: April 23, 2014, 05:56:43 AM
The thieves should just buy a lot of mining power with legit money - say 10% of the hash rate in some DC in the Arctic Circle. Then make 1 Satoshi donations to random addresses on this forum with 1000 BTC transaction fees. Statistically they would get 10% percent of the dirty money back as pristine minted coins. On top of that they will still get the 25 BTC block rewards.
1155  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why isn't bitcoin core on sourceforge? on: April 22, 2014, 11:32:53 AM
There have been a few instances of trojan-infected Bitcoin clients being posted on sourceforge. Some people have been duped into downloading them after doing a search and picking the wrong one. I don't know why the official client was eventually removed from there, but I thought that it was a good idea.
1156  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [ANN] Spondoolies-Tech launches a new line of ASIC miners - Best W/GH/s ratio on: April 20, 2014, 04:11:33 AM
Standard electrical power in the U.S. is delivered in two 110-120V legs, center-tap neutral grounded at the entry to the house.  Call the legs A and B, neutral N and ground G.  The voltage between A and B is 220-240 VAC, between A and N is 110-120 VAC, and between B and N 110-120 VAC.  Typically, stoves, clothes dryers and water heaters are 220-240V.  The rest of the house is split between the two legs, for 110-120V to each circuit.  Grounded circuits have been required since the late 1970's, so half of the circuits are A-N-G and the other half B-N-G.  For a 220-240V circuit, you need A-B-G.  For the SP10s I ordered, I installed NEMA 6-15 outlets with A-B-G so I can run them at 240V.  See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NEMA_connector for details.  This is a routine job for an electrician, because NEMA 6-15 outlets are commonly used for air conditioners.  Local hardware stores carry NEMA 6-15 plugs, cords and outlets. A custom cord is required to plug an SP10 in that way.  240V is pretty dangerous, so use a licensed electrician and don't try it yourself unless you know what you are doing.

I am hoping that we will be able to use standard NEMA 6-15 power cords. These work for regular ATX power supplies running at 240V.

http://www.amazon.com/Apollo-Horticulture-240-Digital-Ballast/dp/B00EJVZLNC/

Edit: I also remember reading in some other thread about how some forum members did their own wiring and basically re-purposed NEMA 5-15/20 outlets for 240V so they can use regular 120V power cords. I think that this is just asking for trouble.

Here check this old FPGA!

Wow, I'd almost gotten Tom out of my mind.

The lame version: switch half to fiat, hold the rest.. Wink
No No you can't! only 3 choices  Cheesy
Can I at least get spend whatever I have at some point in time?

Edit: Given the 3 choices, I will switch to fiat immediately. Then I would be free to do whatever I wanted with the fiat and not be bounded by the constraints of this stupid poll.
"I will switch to fiat immediately" > maybe you don't believe in bitcoin
"stupid poll" > it is insulting to all the people who participated in the poll
"bounded by the constraints" > bounded by your arrogance is more appropriate

I hope Soros Shorts and Odolvlobo will not discourage new people to post polls, good or not.

Nope, I will convert the fiat back to BTC. I will probably keep 25% forever. The rest I may sell at some point in the near future, or keep for a much longer period depending on market conditions. But you never gave me that choice. The only option you gave that would give me immediate control of the fiat/BTC and allow me to do whatever I wish from that point on was the option to sell the BTC immediately.

depends on how important the chinese bitcoin enthusiasts  feel about not being able to use banks to xfer fiat to a bitcoin exhchange
I think you missed a few words. It should read:

"depends on how important the non-chinese bitcoin speculators imagine about how important the chinese bitcoin enthusiasts  feel about not being able to use banks to xfer fiat to a bitcoin exhchange"
