41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]Joincoin (J) ToR Anonymous All Algorithm mining! NEW THREAD on: December 29, 2020, 10:32:18 PM
Reward scheme was changed, as the original plan was to zero the mining reward, which would have killed the coin years ago.
Now it's dormant but at least the chain is alive and well.

Too bad Altility got hacked the very next day.

That's bad but it could have been worse, if we deposited coins there.

Freiexchange is free as well

Thanks to Sekker, the coin got in the Altilly listing queue for BTC and USDT pairs! :-)

So do you mean that it will be an swap, not a fork, and it will  be a new blockchain and network errors and vulnerabilities will remain on the old network?

Thanks to the development team for continuing to develop the project Smiley

It will be a swap not a fork, because the code is brand new, not shared with any other coin and the blockchain format was also written from scratch and optimized.
There are no known vulnerabilities on the Cryptonite network, of course we can't delete the past when we had the know security troubles but as far as I know, no new exploits have been performed.

Hey pallas,

somebody bought all xcn from FreiExchange at 1 satoshi.
Does this swap mean balance from Cryptonite will be reflected to Cryptonite 2?

thanks!

Yes, that's the idea. We will need to set the ratio, probably with a community poll.

May I know the url of the github repo?

It's in the first post of this thread.
I found this: https://github.com/pallas1/Cryptonite, isn't it based on bitcoin?

Yes it is based on bitcoin, but some key components have been rewritten or heavily modified.
Please see the features section of the first post, or the wiki, for details.

Will you still be using the same algo?  Smiley

Do you like it? :-)
Well, that's an option, or we could make a new one: after x22i and x25x I have some experience ;-)

Yes I do but like x22i and x25x ASICS can be made for this if it became big enough. Maybe one with a little code in it that ASICs and nicehash can't touch. An example is Zano ProgPowZ. Still has the same hashrate as Progpow but with a little code in it.  Smiley
Maybe ProgPowC....C for Cryptonite code. Smiley

Indeed: that was an option as well, a memory intensive one with "tricks" to make bitstream coders crazy.
Actually, x25x is already pretty complex for a fpga coder, but not impossible. As far as I know, when sinovate was big, there was no fpga for x22i nor for x25x, which means that it wasn't worth the effort: it would take too much time and resources.

x22i and x25x ? Never heard of this algo. Is there some documentation about those hashing algos, I would love to read more. Thanks!

I developed them for Sinovate, you can find the white papers on their website.
We also have a nice idea about a memory intensive algo but it's not finalized yet.

53  Economy / Reputation / Re: [Interviews] with Bitcointalk members on: November 06, 2020, 09:00:39 AM
1. When and why did you become interested in cryptocurrencies?

It was summer 2013, before the big pump to 1000.
I was just curious about this new technology, as I always am, but I wish I came earlier.

2. When and why did you buy your first bitcoin?

Never bought any.

3. How did you get on the forum?

Back then, it was simply the most popular one.

4.1. What prevents mass adoption of cryptocurrencies?

There is still a usage barrier, and complications linked to buying and using bitcoin. This is slowly changing and progressing: I think it's only a matter of time before all transactions will be done using some for of cryptocurrency.
The question is, will it stay decentralised and free like bitcoin? Or will we end up using banks like before? I have no answer yet.

4.2. How do you think mass advertising of gambling projects has a positive effect on the development of the forum or harms the community?

Some people will always gamble and waste their money. If, by doing this, they help crypto by making volumes or advertising projects, then why not?

4.3. How do you consider whether 2-3 years of experience in cryptocurrency is enough to successfully invest or does an investor need to receive special education?

Investing in crypto was, and still is, like gambling for the most people, so I would not say it needs a special education.
In the end, with traditional investments you can hope to get some percent per year, with crypto you can do the same in a few days or even hours, how can that be secure enough for everyone to try? Not even for anyone with experience, I would say.

8. Do you trade on exchanges or invest in projects?

I've always invested my time and knowledge in crypto projects, I've been involved in many coins through the years. The most important is Cryptonite (XCN).

9. Tell a story about your big profit or big loss?

I can say I've been too confident in some projects a few times. This made me lose some money.
The reason that happened was because I was involved in the project and I thought it was good, the team was great and so on.
Unfortunately that is not enough to be successful in crypto.
This is one of the reasons it is still a very risky business.

10. What do you think about the DEFI ecosystem?

I think it's one of the logical extensions of the original bitcoin/blockchain idea and is here to stay.
But, I don't think the current profits will. It will probably go down and stay more stable.

11. Is your anonymity a vital necessity or precaution?

You never know.

12. The last cryptocurrency book you read?

I read a few books but always found out it's much more interesting to read through forums, code, stuff.
You really need to read the code to understand how it works. Code rulez as of today.

13. Advise 3 cryptocurrencies/tokens for investment in the next 1-2 years?

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Cryptonite.

14. How much will Bitcoin cost at the end of 2020?

My guess is 20k$, but it may well be much more.

15. P.S. (Optional)

When you bow deeply to the universe, it bows back; when you call out the name of God, it echoes inside you.

I hope that the new project also eliminates the weakness of the current XCN code during low mining activity:
A single miner with a strong hash impulse can currently slow down the blockchain for a long period of time:
I am currently observing such attempts again and again!
An additional coupling of the difficulty adjustment with a time signal could be an effective remedy ...

XCN is using a quite old difficulty retargeting algorithm. It is pretty slow but it is also very secure. Some newer algos are "smarter", but I've seen coins being targeted by hackers because of that pretty often.
For sure we will include a newer and more versatile difficulty retargeting algorithm in the new coin.

Hello everyone!
I wanted to make a little update on the status of XCN.
We can't hide there is no activity you can see about the development of the coin.
Things have been running very slowly because of personal stuff of every team member and because of the price of the coin: we can't set bounties or pay people in Cryptonite to do things, in the current exchange situation.
But, some stuff has been going on nonetheless, and as you can see me, bitfreak and sekker are still here and on discord.
Cryptonite 2, or however it will be called, is progressing slowly but it will definitely happen, because both bitfreak and me really want it; unfortunately we have very little time to dedicate to it, but still the code is growing and a release should happen next year.
And since we want to make a swap from XCN 1 (subject to community poll vote), the good old coin will get some love "by reflection" of the launch of the new coin.
Also the new coin, while a total rewrite from scratch, is keeping some of the basic innovative concepts of Cryptonite at its core, and this will drive interest to the origin of those technologies.
Meanwhile, sekker is going on with his game, which will include crypto payments with XCN and other coins.
Thanks to everyone who supported our project!

No new one I believe.
