501  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: ANTMINER S3 Discussion and Support Thread. on: July 22, 2014, 06:13:48 PM
I have two S3's, received last Friday. One of them hashes at 440GHs at stock speed (218.5), so I'm fine with it; however, the other hashes at 400 GHs at stock. I've been trying different things like putting it on a different psu's like ATX, Dell/HP server, but nothing helped. I'm taking notes on different clock speeds on this one:

Frequency     GHS(avg)      Temps       HW            Watt (Kill-A-Watt)     ASIC Status
----------     ----------     -------     --------     ------------------     ----------------------
250              487.26          41, 41        2             428                         Chain#2, 1 "x" on the far right
237.5           423.55          39, 37       38             367                         All OK
225              422.69          39,36         7             364                         Chain#2, 1 "x" at 2nd position & 1 "-" at 8th position from left
218.75          403.58          40, 38        0             355                         All Ok

After editing the asic-freq file, a reboot command was issued. All readings were take at 30 minute mark. PSU is a Dell Server Power Supply 750W. All 4 PCI-E cables are plugged in, even at stock frequency.

Yes, it took me over 2 hours to finish writing this post.  Grin

I'm setting the frequency at 250, seems to be the sweet spot for this S3.

At what frequency would you run this at? Why?

so you spend 940 usd worth of mining equipment for $16 aday?

Neptune's arrived about five minutes ago - Batch#1 order paid for on the 26th November.

I'll let you guys know how they perform! Even though they are late (very late) I am a bit excited :-D

If it is preconfigured with any pool details I will let everyone know.

Coins per 24h at these conditions 0.1121 BTC
How much did you spend on it

In total 13 BTC at $900 per BTC (inc. shipping / taxes).

I've already bought back the 13 BTC at $500, I'm expecting the miner to ROI around 6 months on its own BTC investment but I also enjoy mining and it opens up opportunities for getting some returns on alt's from time to time.

Sorry but you wont make a roi in 6 months, the next difficulty jump is 13 to 17 so how do you work out 6 months to return your money?
agreed...but...
it's already nearly 30% with 4 and 1/2 days to go....     how'd you get 13 to 17?

https://bitcoinwisdom.com/bitcoin/difficulty
clearly says 28.8

I think you have to take into account the block generation time which shows about 8 min, it's supposed to be every 10 min so the difficulty will be less than 28.8% jump, it will compensate for the 10 min block generation time, maybe I am wrong?

Thats what i mean, difficulty is changing 28%, which is 17 in difficulty
It says the next difficulty is 17 in clear text...

514  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: [VMC] Official Virtual Mining Corporation Discussion on: May 06, 2014, 04:00:40 AM
I received a HashFast refund in a timely manner, VMC sent and unsigned Check first of all then asked me to send it back and since then I have heard nothing.

LMAO they sent you an unsigned Check, how does that even happen

It's a very old con man trick from the 1970s.  Sending a back check is fraud.  Sending an unsigned check buys you a few weeks for an 'honest mistake'

Its a terrible mistake to make and that person must be super retarded
