221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 27, 2014, 12:00:47 AM

I think we have enough clients as of now. Improving blockchain explorer would be more useful.

I disagree, we have only one standalone client for windows.

Nexern isn't standalone, as I understand it. It will still require NRS server running

yes, you are right in both. the explorer has a long todo list like:
marketdata, charts, alias extended search (the current one is simple), transaction filter and sorting, peerexplorer. a notification system
for accounts and transactions, customizable triggered and instant bc updates.

on the other hand i rewrote the client-code base to enable an important feature, others (like ethereum) are planing also:
distributed application. i think the best is to finish the asset exchange now and then i can improve the explorer like mentioned above.

edit: have to catch up first. don't know if the api or other important protocols/things have changed the last time.

blockexplorer update

http://www.nxtexplorer.com/nxt/nxt.cgi?action=10

timestamp problem fixed. running fast and smooth again.
if you find any issue please let me know.

I would like to see instantaneous transactions updates (even the unconfirmed). It's still pretty slow compared to something like blockchain info

yes, currently there is a ~15-30 min delay due to the old cron api fetch approach.
with switch to h2 by jean-luc, an instant db access is possible and on my todo list.
have to write a lua db gateway for this, no rocketscience but eats time.

I read somewhere that reallife work is keeping you busy. Did the ETA for your client change? (iirc end of the month?)

have to look into the current code state tomorrow. haven't touch the code and ide since two weeks, so i guess i run out of time to hold the date.
but i start working again on then client and more important, on the asset exchange as fast as possible.

I think its a very old account. Nexern's buggy blockchain explorer shows 11k nxt transferred in during November.
It's not an old account. That blockexplorer is broken, nexern himself said so recently.
I rebooted my nrs after weeks running it smoothly and everything seems fine now. I hope it wasn't me causing this whole problem to everyone (sorry if I sounded arrogant, am sort of noob)

yes, that's correct. there is an issue with the timestamp order within account/transaction view.
i am working at this now to fix this.
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 26, 2014, 05:42:30 PM
just seen there is an issue with the blockexplorer. looking into it now and fix this asap (timestamp conversion error).
since the RL project took a little longer and i was abroad i wasn't able to follow the current dev, so i have to sort and
catch up today. have seen also some post about the client donation i have recieved.
as stated before, i will contact the three donators the next days and ask what they prefer.
since it is thier inital funds they have to decide. regardless of thier decision i am still resume coding now.
227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: March 12, 2014, 04:26:09 PM
hi,
have been very busy the last 10 days with an important RL extended service request for a big data project
i have built for a company some times ago, so i haven't had the time to follow the thread and development.
as soon i am finished this service (this weekend) i am again on the client and asset exchange even if there
are some very nice clients already in use, since my client structure differs from the current ones.

ps: i have recieved three donations for the client work (165k nxt) which i would pass back, if i am not able
to deliver until end of month (never ever took funds for nothing and don't intend to change this).
just mentioned in case the current boring data work keeps me longer busy as expected.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 27, 2014, 06:56:31 PM
is there actually a "danger" of Bitcoin copying and implementing things like AE, AM and TF? Or is this technically impossible?

I read a quote today by Andronopoulos that BTC is waiting for the best altcoins to copy their standalone features and thus make BTC stronger...

yes, this is possible, even if they are very handicaped to make fundamental changes (who like to be responsible changing the wheel at 300mph and something goes wrong?) they have a very strong position. BTC can wait and see what works best and evolves fastest. i never would underestimate BTC and btw, this is the
only real mid/longterm competition from my pov. while it is true nxt hasn't converted the 'now existing features' optimal, we should also see that others are not
even close having all of them in a foreseeable time. if i hear we don't have alias/am/ae etc. i am astonished. correctly said we don't have complete 'clients' to
USE this but these features are already built in. this is a big difference in context. as said, others are not even close to have them within the core and nxt is close
to utilize these features. i am relaxed with nxt and under no circumstances i am switching from acting to reacting, just because of another announcement somewhere.

blah blah blah again, It is march soon!

It is march soon! let me guess it will be for april.

the only one i see here making blah blah blah is you burro. it's not your fault if you are mentaly reduced but i am still waiting for my daily fun delivery, so where is it?
230  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 27, 2014, 06:25:37 PM
Current source code (with comments) should be shared to a select group of people.

I am assuming the actual source has comments.

CFB, does it?

Very little.

This would be good usage of a bounty. Get a java programmer to go through line by line and function by function and add some comments.

Who writes a program, expects the community to vet it, implement it, write on top of it, etc and does not include some documentation? A sadist. That's who.

After reading Come-From-Beyond's comments today and all the confused (but very well intentioned) replies, I'm starting to think Emule is not so far off his rocker as we might think.

The clock is ticking and NXT has competition.

You know who already has instant transactions? Ripple.

where? and in what context?
please list them.

231  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information AE - Bug? on: February 27, 2014, 06:13:35 PM
Maybe I just had to pay TWICE for one order on the AE:

accBal was:

987945 conf, 873090 unconf. before the trade.
702845 conf, 302990 unconf. after the trade

conf Balance: 987945 -   702845 = 285100 = 1900*150 + 100(FEE) OK

unconf Balance: 873090 - 302990 = 570100 =   2*   1900*150 + 100(FEE) Huh

lets wait how the balance looks later when the conf==unconf -  - but how is it that the Trade hits the unconf Balance TWICE?!?!

Can anyone reproduce this or know anything about it Huh

Order was : 1900HIVE @ 150 (1.5nxt?) -> 2850

{'bidOrderId': '2084814903449362881', 'quantity': 1900, 'askOrderId': '12983022864822577544', 'timestamp': 8203706, 'price': 150}]

l8orre, yes. this is what i was talking about yesterday. i have some diffs too which has to cleared quickly. we need a complete balance tracing
to ensure everything is working fine even under heavy load and multiple order/cancel scenarios. i would suggest we are doing a controlled and
coordinated test this weekend and unroll the order/cancel history after heavy trades back to ensure we have a clean match here.
232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 27, 2014, 06:01:51 PM

well said NxtMinnow. came to the same conclusion. following ethereum also from beginning and there are some nice ideas but mostly as concept/ideas,
nxt is here and now, no reason to overestimate ethereum. Q4 2014 is planned to launch but i guess we won't see them before Q1 2015. ethereum is also
more gearing into financial api, mostly usefull for old school finance, therefore the big interest from this side but nxt is far more people/user orientated.
nxt will have all they want fully operational before they launch thier basic structure.

Speaking of, how is your client coming along?

working at the AE client atm. testing and balance tracing is going on but close to finish.
the apphub client needs to refactor, enabling a distributed applications approach. means
only the account handling is included make it max lightweigthed. alias and AM and some
additional tools are loadable modules on demand via a distributed application layer.
233  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: NXT :: descendant of Bitcoin - Updated Information on: February 27, 2014, 05:43:47 PM
Good morning from the West Coast NXT community,

First, great work on the tri-fold marketing brochure with special thanks to rickyjames, bitcoinpaul, w4llace, LiQio, EvilDave and especially mvag to create this great looking marketing material.

With regards to Auroracoin, the fact remains it is STILL a Proof of Work Clone and still suffers from the same geometrically increasing energy rate required to secure the network. The NXT Asset Exchange development has critical momentum; it is imperative this momentum is maintained.

The NXT cryptocurrency ecosystem is LIGHT YEARS ahead of ethereum.  I read through the ethereum forum last night and reviewed all of their problems attempting to implement their first basic clients, problems and delays and bad publicity at attempting to issue a $30 million "ether" IPO, and potentially running afoul of US SEC securities laws related to IPO issuance.

When I explain cryptocurrencies to my friends, one of the first questions is: will cryptocurrencies replace dollars, euros, etc?  My answer to them is always a resounding NO; all assets including cryptocurrencies, fiat, precious metals, land, etc will all continue to exist and be traded in parallel with the new cryptocurrencies through the NXT Asset Exchange.

HOWEVER, NXT is not just a cryptocurrency asset; but rather a powerful tool to enable transactions between all classes of assets and all groups of people.

So many people globally are locked out of the ability to conduct basic economic transactions, let alone complex transactions due to the expense resulting from the greed of the global banking cartel. The NXT ecosystem has the ability to free these underbanked and underserved people to finally join the world economic system free from the constraints of fractional reserve banking, capital controls, central banker greed, and computing arms races.

NXT is reaching critical mass.  It is true we need to organize, coordinate, keep calm and code on.  It is my vision that with the full implementation of the NXT Asset Exchange System, eventually all other energy unsustainable cryptocurrencies (All BTC and LTC clones) will be built on top of the NXT ecosystem as Proof of Work/Proof of Stake Coins.  The Proof of Stake NXT ecosystem provides the leanest, cheapest method to conduct secure cryptographic transactions and DATA GOES WHERE IT IS CHEAPEST!

@ AE devs, did you made a balance tracking already and if so did you found any diffs between your
filled/cancel orders if you unroll them back to inital balance?

ps: thx abctc

Unconfirmed balance bug is not fixed yet.

didn't mean this one but the account balance showed by NRS differs from API request after trading.
with balance tracking i mean also to ensure the balance has the correct calculated amount
after heavy trading and order cancel when calculating all fees and prices and then roll them back.
both numbers need to match of course. i think this has to be tested too but it seems i am the only one
looking into this atm.

Agreed (minus the vulgar language), we can market AE when it's finished with testing and we are happy with it.

Btw, who is really testing it? I got only a few bug reports.

I don't really need AE working (I'm not a trader and don't need to IPO anything), so I can wait till April. The community should focus on testing if it does need AE.

hm well ... I have tested all the basic functions: placeOrder (bis/ask) cancelOrder(bid/ask),issueAsset, transferAsset, trade. Fetch bidorder/askorder as TX from trade.
The bug with the 'not enough funds'. I am still missing out on the scaling - whether it is 0.01nxt or 1 nxt, little things like that.

May main focus atm is getting the modelView pulled straight in Qt, and then I'll have to switch from GET to POST in requests.

What about a liquid market? How can we simulate one? What kind of test cases can we come up with? Who actually IS testing the AE on the testNET? For sure I know about jl777 and myself but there are 2 or three others - wesleyh / nexern / marcus03 ??

Please chime in whoever is testing, so we can cook up something more lively!

yes, we have to setup a more reallistic AE scenario and put some heavy load to predefined assets.
i would suggest to coordinate this wthin the next days because we need a precise account balance
tracking for this. i just added additional logfiles within the client to trace the balance and found some
small diffs. not sure yet if this is a bug or not or a minor error within my code.

all basic functions a workig very well from my side and the AE is cool. we need ths AE soon to built
a bunch of services on top of this.

I doubt it also - but I do think we can address the Sybil attack vector much as with "hallmarking".

I am only trying to *help* but for sure my idea might not be the best one.

In the end we'll end having 1'000'000'000 IP addresses coz a guy with 5172 NXT will create 5172 accounts. So in the end we'll come back to the beginning.

Edit: A good name for this project has just come to my mind - Uroboros.  Cheesy

so what is the best solution?

adding value to nxt with usefull tools, increasing transaction/block ratio 100-1000 fold will solve this automatically.
in addition with a higher nxt price and pool leased forging you get the best result for smaller accounts.
at the end it is just a question of price/#transactions per block relation and this relation needs a vibrant usage,
driven by innovative tools. atm there is no other coin/platform providing this shear amount of functionality as nxt do.
all we have todo the next weeks is to bundle them into usefull real world applications for the user.
