Bitmonerod gave this message 2016-Mar-28 19:09:16.278514 [P2P1][5.138.110.35:18080 OUT]Sync data returned unknown top block: 1013521 -> 1009962 [3559 blocks (-2 days) ahead] SYNCHRONIZATION started
So why bimonerod thinks the highest block of the blockchain is that 1009962?

Will MyMonero.com be up on tomorrow 25. March 06.00 GMT?

I wasn't saying that law enforcement/spying agencies provide child porn. I was saying that there might be an outcry over monero similar to the hissy fit Chuck Schumer had over bitcoin. A spark can turn into a wildfire of public outrage, fanned by the powers that be, and for example the NSA might apply its computing power to attacking monero. I think that scenario is unlikely, but it's possible. You're willing to consider all kinds of far-fetched scenarios that another person might call conspiracy theories, Risto. Don't you think the the scenario I've outlined lies within the realm of possibility? Looking into the future, events almost never play out the way they think we will. Sometimes things turn out better, sometimes worse, but often they play out in unexpected ways.
That is what I am slightly worried about. Once ASIC is needed to mine Bitcoin, Monero can be mined by GPU. So it is easy for NSA to attack Monero. Have I understood right?

When starting bitmonerod, the message is shown. Last scheduled hard fork time shows a daemon update is needed now. I thought this update would do it. What should I do? I just started getting the same message. I believe it was mentioned that this message is a bug and there is nothing that needs to be done. Also there is a release due out today that will address this and a few other things. Well ok. The synchronization has anyway been very slow. Before and after last update. It takes easily half an hour or more to sync just one days blocks. Has anyone else this problem?

I increased my lending rates close to 1 % per day. In poloniex.com cryptos can be lended. The idea is I guess simple. To have some interest. But how the lender can be sure to get the coins back. And the interest. Or even expect so. It is easy to make a fake identity to poloniex. Have I missed something relevant? May someone explain.

I just updated to this brand new simplewallet. https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero/releases/tag/v0.9.2Simplewallet can be used to make an ordinary wallet. The way that simplewallet itself creates mnemonic seed, address, spendkey and viewkey. Simplewallet can be used to make an ordidinary wallet by already known address, spendkey and viewkey. Simplewallet can be used to make a view-only-wallet by allready known address and viewkey. How simplewallet can be used to make an ordinary wallet by already known mnemonic seed? You can restore the seed, which will create a new wallet. Subsequently if that new wallet is created you can extract the spendkey and viewkey from it. To expand on this, use this command: simplewallet --restore-deterministic-wallet It will prompt you for the seed and a new password to be used for the new wallet file Worked. Thaks dudes. That was simple.

I like the XMR team very much though although my personal acquaintance is only 29% anymore.
What do you mean? Having 29% of your property in xmr? Or level of co-operation?

Where are you trading at and with what app? I'm using Poloniex for buying my Monero, but the UI is soooo slow and nearly broken on my android.
Polo crashes my phone, and my mediocre laptop barely functions. Crazy resource hog. Since I don't trade much, I can put up with it to buy my moneroj. It sure would be nice to have a 'light' version with fewer features though. I also don't trade much and would not attempt it at Polo on my new android phone. I find it almost impossible to scroll through the order book. I did cancel an order once. To check the price I use bitcoinwisdom, no lag at all. One stop shopping You can scroll down and click the Switch to Mobile Version tab at the end poloniex.com site. Or just put m.poloniex.com to the address bar. Mobile version is running just fine with both phone and desktop/laptop. The Desktop is very sticky also on my laptop, so I use the Mobile Version without any problems. For some reason the Desktop Version is running just fine on my Android Phone. I just do not understand how it is possible. But it is. I anyway use the Mobile Version also on my phone while the text fits better to a small screen.

I guess every wallet created by simplewallet has to be refreshed to catch up the blockchain? And this has to be done to every wallet. Also for view-only-wallets. It takes a time. This is not so nice once the bitmonerod has to be also get synchronized with the blockchain. Which take a time.
So. It would be great if MyMonero.com was added with a such feature which can be used to check a balance of an address. It would be a kind of a online view-only-wallet. By just giving the address and the viewkey the balance can be seen.
|
|
|
Now I have checked there should be right address and view-key. The blockchain is syncronized. But still simplewallet shows zero balance on its view-only wallet. MyMonero.com anyway shows the real balance.
|
|
|
When I am using this command ./simplewallet --generate-from-view-key address:viewkey:filename
to create a view-only-wallet and use a faulty address, simplewallet will tell it is faulty address. But when I use purposely a faulty view-key, simplewallet does not complain anything. It just creates a view-only-wallet. And that wallet can be opened. But I guess it will only show zero balance. Is this featere of simplewallet ok? What version of simplewallet are you running? https://github.com/monero-project/bitmonero/commit/f6abc5324f602ded6a0424445c033f5a8622ab22Edit: I don't think this is in a tagged release yet. I dont know how to check the version. But I downloaded this about three moths ago.
|
|
|
It would be better that simplewallet complained if a faulty view-key is given when creating a view-only-wallet.

That is the way the view-only-wallet is created for simplewallet in linux command line. What is the command to create a full wallet by allready created nmemonic seed?

I am creating some paperwallets by https://moneroaddress.org/I anyway can avoid possible botnets by using that page offline when creating papewallet. But to be sure that the nmemonic seed is real, I has to check by some onlinewallet. At the end of that site there is some guide of using GPG key. I guess a can download the same address-generator code from github and verify the validity of the code by GPG. The guide anyway is slightly messy for me. Can someone explain it more simple way? If it is possible? [1] Download the .ZIP file from -> https://github.com/moneromooo-monero/monero-wallet-generator. You can extract it on an USB, preferably a fresh one. It contains an HTML page that is used as generator and can be used offline. [2] You can grab MoneroMooo's PGP key from -> https://raw.githubusercontent.com/monero-project/bitmonero/master/utils/gpg_keys/moneromooo.asc. Subsequently, you can use any PGP/GPG program to verify if the generator hasn't been tampered with. The program simply verifies that the generator has been PGP signed by MoneroMooo. You should see a message similar to: I am not sure, but I think this step can also be performed offline. [3] Once you have verified the seed and have all the compartments on a fresh USB, you can bring the fresh USB to an offline/airgapped pc to generate a paperwallet with it. Does this answer all your questions? EDIT: Included a screenshot how [2] should look like: EDIT2: If you or anyone else needs additional help or a walk through regarding [2], feel free to PM me on IRC. I am at #monero on freenode. I'll compile a guide for it later. Looks like you have some kind of GUI GPG. Where is that available? I used linux command line. Anyway. I progressed. This is what I did. 1. I downloaded the ZIP-file from https://github.com/moneromooo-monero/monero-wallet-generator2. I opened this site https://raw.githubusercontent.com/monero-project/bitmonero/master/utils/gpg_keys/moneromooo.asc and copypasted its whole contain to a texteditor, named the file as moneromooo.asc and saved it to the same directory where I dowloaded the ZIP file. I did not yet use USB stick since I am just testing. 3. I opened the linux command line and went to the folder where I put those files. I gave command $ gpg --import moneromooo.ascgpg: /home.gnupg/trustdb.gpg: trustdb created gpg: key 4D6CEFC3: public key "moneromooo-monero < moneromooo-monero@users.noreply.github.com>" bring gpg: All in all treated: 1 gpg: bring: 1 (RSA: 1) 4. I gave command $ gpg --verify monero-wallet-generator.html.ascgpg: Signature made to 7. january 2016 02.14.58 EET using RSA key ID 4D6CEFC3 gpg: Good signature from "moneromooo-monero < moneromooo-monero@users.noreply.github.com>" gpg: WARNING: This key is not certified as a reliable signature! gpg: There is no guarantee that the signature really belongs to its holder. Primary key fingerprint: 48B0 8161 FBDA DFE3 93AD FC3E 686F 0745 4D6C EFC3 So is everything just fine? Looks like there is some problem with the key. I am not using english linux so I made some translations to those messages. Do not wonder if the language looks slightly different than usually.

I have synched with blockchain. I am trying to create a watch only wallet to simlplewallet by this command. --generate-from-view-key 49bPEMu2NiJCDPAvzDDTJCfcRKcdSmB5P3XFbMbw7m1rJt7cotJeFJEZVhTFguYeQ4TNEvPwAbtF5Ps JQ9iEKz8mH2WmQo3:794d99ba442931954d00de76218f62a85692fbffd544590a0f5d913149fed0a:lookwallet
It is like --generate-from-view-key address:viewkey:filename
But only this happens. [wallet 4AT4qA]: --generate-from-view-key 49bPEMu2NiJCDPAvzDDTJCfcRKcdSmB5P3XFbMbw7m1rJt7cotJeFJEZVhTFguYeQ4TNEvPwAbtF5Ps JQ9iEKz8mH2WmQo3:794d99ba442931954d00de76218f62a85692fbffd544590a0f5d913149fed0a:lookwallet unknown command: --generate-from-view-key 49bPEMu2NiJCDPAvzDDTJCfcRKcdSmB5P3XFbMbw7m1rJt7cotJeFJEZVhTFguYeQ4TNEvPwAbtF5Ps JQ9iEKz8mH2WmQo3:794d99ba442931954d00de76218f62a85692fbffd544590a0f5d913149fed0a:lookwallet [wallet 4AT4qA]:

Ok. I put that command to linux command line inside the folder where simplewallet is. Not to inside running simplewallet software. I gues you ment that. Looks like you are almost right. You just missed dot and slash at the beginning of the command. It should be this way. $ ./simplewallet --generate-from-view-key 49bPEMu2NiJCDPAvzDDTJCfcRKcdSmB5P3XFbMbw7m1rJt7cotJeFJEZVhTFguYeQ4TNEvPwAbtF5Ps JQ9iEKz8mH2WmQo3:794d99ba442931954d00de76218f62a85692fbffd544590a0f5d913149fed0a:lookwallet Creating the logger system Monero 'Hydrogen Helix' (v0.9.1.0-release) Logging at log level 0 to /home./simplewallet.log password: ***** Error: --generate-from-view-key needs a address:viewkey:filename triple $
But till there is some problem. What that triple means at end of the error message? Are you entering the command all on one line with no extra spaces in between. If you have a line break after AbtF5Ps as shown above or any extra spaces it would not work So like this: $ ./simplewallet --generate-from-view-key 49bPEMu2NiJCDPAvzDDTJCfcRKcdSmB5P3XFbMbw7m1rJt7cotJeFJEZVhTFguYeQ4TNEvPwAbtF5PsJQ9iEKz8mH2WmQo3:794d99ba442931954d00de76218f62a85692fbffd544590a0f5d913149fed0a:lookwallet
Looks like that worked! Thank you.
