Making high-stakes business decisions has always been hard. But in recent decades, as the complexities of global commerce have deepened, it’s become tougher than ever. One decision-making tool—human intuition—seems to offer a reliable alternative to painstaking fact gathering and analysis. Encouraged by scientific research on intuition, top managers feel increasingly confident that, when faced with complicated choices, they can just trust their gut. Indeed, a survey that was conducted in May 2002 by executive search firm Christian & Timbers reveals that fully 45% of corporate executives now rely more on instinct than on facts and figures in running their businesses. Decision-making consultant Gary Klein, in his book Intuition at Work, expresses the common wisdom when he says that intuition is “at the center of the decision-making process” and that analysis is, at best, “a supporting tool for making intuitive decisions.” Intuition has its place in decision making—you should not ignore your instincts any more than you should ignore your conscience—but anyone who thinks that intuition is a substitute for reason is indulging in a risky delusion.

The trust in intuition is understandable. People have always sought to put their faith in mystical forces when confronted with earthly confusion. But it’s also dangerous. Intuition has its place in decision making—you should not ignore your instincts any more than you should ignore your conscience—but anyone who thinks that intuition is a substitute for reason is indulging in a risky delusion.

There is no group of people that has a more complicated role in the Economy than billionaires. In theory, billionaires generate a positive economic impact through the creation of jobs and services for the public. Of course, the truth is a lot more complicated. The next notable wealthy person was Mansa Musa, a Medieval West African Emperor who became wealthy through the salt and gold trade. He is noted for spending so much money on his travels to the Middle East that every town he visited suffered from hyperinflation. Hence, almost all billionaires are CEOs and business owners. They happen to own the most profitable companies in the world. Billionaires come from all walks of life – some have humble origins, some do not – but they all have ownership of capital. Jeff Bezos is the CEO of Amazon, which in turn owns the factories and capital that the employees operate. By owning capital, the entrepreneurs effectively have a “right” to the profit generated after all expenses are paid. First – a brief discussion of growth. A common misconception is that billionaires “steal” the wealth of the public, treating the company like a zero-sum game. This misconception comes from a misunderstanding of the monetary system. Many people believe that one person getting richer means everyone else becomes poorer. Let’s explore an analogy to understand why this is not true. There is a village of 11 fishermen that are able to catch 110 fish per day. Each fisherman brings home 10 fish at the end of the day. One day, one of them invents a better fishing strategy that enables the village to catch 220 fish per day. In return for the invention, he receives 20% of the extra catches on top of his pre-existing share. Thus, he walks home with 32 fish, while the rest walk home with 18.8 fish. Overall, everyone is significantly better off.

404  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: ⚽ Sportsbet.io ⚽ Italian Serie A ⚽ Football Pool Discussion Thread 2022/2023 on: June 30, 2023, 12:08:54 PM
Season starts a week after EPL -- it feels like we have to wait longer and longer now for season starts (in my mind it's always July) so maybe it's just my hold on calendar start but apparently this is actually an early start for Italy. Which explains why the new schedule isn't out yet.

The schedule is set to be released next week, 5th July.

Indeed, mid-August start dates for Serie A are uncommon, partly due to the weather, since no one wants to play ball in temps of 30°C or more.

With the EURO next year, i suppose everyone will have to start a few weeks earlier.

Just checking in here to see how we're all doing for new season. I'll probably need to check in La Liga too, to sort of drum up support and remind people to get some money ready for new pools, yeah?

Can someone please tag me when you start paying fees for the La Liga pool? I'll be joining the pool this year, ...honestly can't wait to get my ass kicked and finish bottom three. Grin

I intend to join every available pool next season, including leagues i don't normally watch/follow. I'm also making some major changes to my FPL way of doing things. I won't rest until i start producing Top10k finishes (wishful thinking). Lol

In addition to the regular pools and fantasy leagues, we have AFCON, Copa America, EURO, EURO Fantasy, and Nations League in 2024...a busy year and a half ahead of us.  #no-life  Grin

So I like the Idea behind Best Ball, As you all know I pm people that forget to set their lineups or have last minute scratches.

I don't know how injuries are handled though, if your QB gets knocked out for the season your just boned? Or your kicker like butler last year? I had to use a rostor spot last year for 2 kickers most of the year and that sucked. but you need those points each week and those are positions you don't normally draft 2 players in. Come to think of it TE as well if you lose that position its not as bad as QB or K but can ruin your chances.

The free 10-man that's available on Yahoo does not include kickers and defense, HALF-PPR scoring.

source: https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN29299.html
Quote
Best Ball leagues have a fixed roster with a total of 17 players on each team: 8 starters and 9 bench.

Starters:

    1 Quarterback
    2 Running Backs
    3 Wide Receivers
    1 Tight End
    1 Flex (W/R/T)

Thinking about this I guess the drafting strategy would be way different.

You guys that have played it want to chime in on these thoughts?

I haven't played in one yet. I was hoping ChiBitCTy might give us a few pointers, but it appears they haven't either...perhaps wheelz1200 has some experience with these types of leagues?

Given the format, i'd guess a WR-heavy draft, 2-3 QBs, and 9 bench spots should account for injuries...idk.

Also I would have no problem doing 2 leagues this year of differing formats (except ppr) and think it would be fun to do a early draft on one (bestball maybe) and a late one after pre season for our main one.

I completely forgot that we plan to expand the main league from 10 to 12. It would have been convenient to have both leagues on the same platform, however, i'm not sure how 12 and 10 (the free best ball league on Yahoo is locked at 10) would work. There's plenty of time to figure it out i guess. Nonetheless, having two leagues isn't a must, i just thought it might be fun, draft and forget.

edit;

Sleeper app might be a good alternative for the best ball league, it's fully customizable (i was able to test it last night, we can match the settings from the main league), and besides Sleeper has the best design/UI of all fantasy platforms out there.

We are face to face with the gravest economic problems arising out of landed property; and when we turn to economic treatises we find little to help us in their solution. These problems lie at the very foundation of our economic life, and yet we economists, who should see a little farther ahead than others and a little more clearly, seem strangely unconcerned. It has been generally sup- posed by thinkers that private property in land has been a bul- wark of political liberty, because-so the argument runs it has developed a strong class of men who have loved liberty and at the same time it has given them a firm foundation upon which they could stand in successful opposition to tyranny. Land, privately owned, is security for loans in the United States which aggregate billions of dollars and which supply lifeblood to our industries. Private property in land is the foundation of the building and loan associations of this country which probably are furnishing more people with homes of their own than any other single agency. It is generally believed that these homes give their owners a socially precious stake in the community and that they are a powerful force in making their owners good citizens. In other ways land, privately owned, increases the number of home-owners.

Post-cold war hopes of a world without wars, where conflicts between and within nations are peacefully resolved through negotiations, have not been fully realized. Recent data on armed conflicts indicate that during the period 1989-1997, there were 103 such conflicts in 69 locations around the world, 33 of which were active in 1997.1 Over the decade, roughly one third of all United Nations Member States were directly involved in at least one armed conflict. The number of conflicts increased after the end of the cold war, peaking in 1992. Most were contained by the end of 1997. There were 27 conflicts in 1998 and 36 in 1999. Armed conflicts within States are political conflicts involving citizens fighting for internal change. Some are secessionist movements, generally spearheaded by a group of people, more often than not a minority within a community, who take up arms to fight for the establishment of either an autonomous entity within an existing state or an entirely new and independent state of their own. Such struggles have taken place recently in Asia and Europe. Such conflicts have been relatively uncommon in Africa, although issues related to ethnic identity are an important factor in African politics. However, Eritrea declared independence from Ethiopia and several military actions on a large scale followed. In Europe, between 1991 and 1992 Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia and Herzegovina seceded from Yugoslavia after short or prolonged war, while the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia did so peacefully. Barring these and East Timor, the break-up of States as a result of secessionist movements has been rare.
Historically, children participated in wars as drummer boys, foot soldiers or ship’s boys, but not all of them fought or risk their lives. The alarming trend today is that children are widely used as soldiers during prolonged periods of civil war. As of 1995, conflicts have dragged on in Angola for 30 years, in Afghanistan for 17 years, in Sri Lanka for 11 years and in Somalia for seven years. Moreover, children are no longer recruited as a last resort when adult fighters run short – they are sometimes recruited first.

I wonder why the Wizards agreed with this trade.

It's called rebuilding! You acquire draft picks and expiring contracts. I expect the Wizards to move Porzingis and even Kuzma if a good offer present itself.

With this trade, the Suns just became better, but what I would want to see is to improve their depth. Yes their starters are one of the best right now, but their depth is for me one of the worst. <...>

Suns have only one tradeable asset, and that is Ayton. They don't have any more draft picks and can only sign players with the veteran minimum. There isn't much room for roster improvement since all three Beal, KD, and Booker have the max.

Does anyone think there will be a special bet available towards the NBA draft for this coming Thursday?
What I recall there was a competition for 6-3 Free last year or a type of multimaster competition on the site under Sportsbet Specials.
Been through so many sporting events since then and they have had so many competitions it is hard to remember actually. Cheesy

It'd be great, but i'm skeptical. We didn't get one for the NFL Draft nor March Madness, as we had in past years, only wagering contests, iirc. We should keep our eyes peeled though, Sb has a knack for surprising us...

As for the Draft itself, Brandon Miller at No. 2 makes a lot of sense for the Hornets. Odds still pretty decent as Hornets need a forward, Miller is a better 3pt shooter than Scoot Henderson. I just don't see LaMelo and Scoot playing together, not a great backcourt fit imo.

------

Here's a Euro Q. winning ticket i had today. I hate parlaying together such low odds, glad it worked...  The Neths and Italy BTTS still playable at 1.70 (with a boost), guess that's my play for tomorrow. Oh and good luck to our Croatian forum members in the final. Spain looked shaky at the back in the semis.

If you think about it, it's really just over a month left. When training camps begin, tons of team news/footage/storylines to follow up and analyze, more than enough to keep us busy. That's the time we get to revisit our fantasy league, interest check, decide what to do, etc. Then it's preseason games in early August, mock drafts and whatnot all the way up to Chiefs vs. Lions opener.

I realize it's a little early, but i'd like to propose a complimentary league, or at least float the idea, a Best Ball league. It's pretty straightforward and fun imo. All you need to do is draft, and Yahoo offers free 10-man leagues, so it won't be difficult to set up.

What is Best Ball you may ask?

Looking for a game that allows you to complete a draft that you can track throughout the whole Fantasy Football season without having to manage a roster? Best Ball offers just that! Each week, the top scoring players at each position on your roster will automatically count towards your weekly score. Once you draft your team, you won't make any roster moves all season long - no adds, drops, trades, sits, starts, etc. The team with the most points at the end of Week 17 wins.

Randy Moss days till...

Hardly any other sport/competition i've lost more money to this past year than this meme tournament we have called Nations League. That being said...Cheesy

I see the odds for both teams to score have increased slightly since last night, i wouldn't be surprised if this ends 1:0. I guess i'm banking on the fact that the season has just concluded and nobody is arsed to play hard/defend....as we saw in the other semi-final last night.

I'm hoping to see Retegui play, but from what i've read in the Italian press, he'll be on the bench. The kid is talented, and a move from Argentina to a good European team is very likely.

Anyone else has any plays on this match?

Nuggets wrapping up the Finals today, aren't they?

Heat could get Herro back, but even if he is cleared, i don't think it makes much of a difference, he hasn't played in two months and i'm not sure how much he can contribute at this point.

One thing i'd like to see Miami try is to switch everything, every PnR, dribble handoff, and so on. They tried zone, but it didn't work, trapping and blitzing Murray and Jokic doesn't work either because both can find the open guy at any time. Switching forces the Nuggets to end in a lot of one-on-one situations, it also eliminates all of the easy buckets Gordon and the rest get off of cuts. I'm not saying the Heat have the personnel to pull this off, given Vincent, Strus, and Robinson are a liability on defense, but they can try for at least a quarter...

In any case, here are my bets, every single line has a 100% hit ratio so far in the Finals. It would be great if Murray one hits...but can he get another game with 10+ assists? I suppose we'll find out soon enough. Gl, everyone!  Wink

Jokic 20+ points/ Jokic 10+ rebounds / Jokic 1+ 3pts @1.61  won

Bam 20+ points / Bam 9+ rebounds / Bam 3+ assists @3.10  X

Murray 10+ assists / Murray 3+ rebounds / Murray 1+ steals / Murray 2+ 3pts @4.10  X

Knowing that a draw is all you need is a double-edged sword.

Cagliari was indeed the better team tonight, even if they didn't have that many scoring chances aside from a few crosses.

I'm not sure if Ranieri would have substituted in Pavoletti if it hadn't started pouring 5 minutes before the end. The boy he replaced was Cagliari's best/most dangerous player....Luvumbo.

In any case, a heartbreaker for Bari and their fans....about 60k at San Nicola, incredible atmosphere as you would expect.
