Best to use both if you really need to be able to count on the privacy... and hopefully someone will come up with a off-chain transfer system on some Tor site that implements chaum tokens.
Could Open Transactions play a role in any of this? https://github.com/FellowTraveler/Open-Transactions

This sounds exciting. I've been following the CoinJoin thread for a while and would love to see this implemented. Making a donation now.

The problem is dealing through banks - not decentralized exchanges. The original idea behind LocalBitcoins was to facilitate local, person-to-person exchanges and bypass the banks altogether. Bitcoin and banks go together like oil and water. Bitcoin was created as an alternative to the current banking system and why people keep trying to marry the two is beyond me. Bitcoin is a direct threat to the establishment. Ask yourself, why should banks enable and accelerate their demise?

Feature suggestion - using compressed public keys by default As far as I was able to check, the blockchain wallet uses uncompressed public keys by default. Since it is very popular, a lot of people are using uncompressed keys. If you were to switch over to compressed public keys, each transaction sent from the wallets using those keys would be smaller, meaning the future blocks could accommodate more transactions. Just a way to be forward thinking and "greener" . More info on compressed public key - http://bitcoin.stackexchange.com/questions/3059/what-is-a-compressed-bitcoin-key . You could even get fancy and give us the option to pick our exchange (for price) and give the option to enter a % premium or % discount.

Feature suggestion: When creating a payment request (by clicking the "Request Payment" button on an address page) it would be great if one could enter a EUR or USD amount. Right now you can only enter BTC amounts, but I do know several merchants who price their products in Euro and would like to be able to create payment requestsbased on Euro amounts.
This!

Here is a feature that I think would be awesome:
What: First, a little background: From the standard web page at Blockchain.info one can search an address and view the balance and payment status. The QR code is also displayed and a "request payment" button is available. Problem: you can only enter a bitcoin amount. Can you please add the option to enter a currency amount?
Why: Scenario: Let's say I have a restaurant and I would like my servers to have my bitcoin address (via the Blockchain.info URL described above) bookmarked on their smart phone. When a customer offers to pay in bitcoin the server simply pulls out her smart phone, opens the bookmarked page and clicks on "request payment". She enters the total amount of the bill and tip and generates the QR code. She then hands it to the customer and the payment is completed. She can verify the payment by seeing the transaction right there on her phone and the deal is done.
Another Reason: I don't want my servers accessing my wallet just to generate payment requests and I may not want to use the BitPay or Coinbase solutions. I might prefer to have my own wallet and then I simply provide a payment address via a simple bookmark for my servers using Blockchain.info.
All bitcoin transactions are treated as "cash transactions" at the register and balanced with the tickets at the end of the day.
Additional Benefits: This same feature would benefit everyone who wants a quick and easy way to receive payments without performing exchange calculations and without having to open or keep a wallet on their phone.
Thanks for considering, Trader Steve

For what it's worth I can personally vouch for Trace's integrity and I feel much better knowing that he, Jon Matonis and Roger Ver are involved in bitcoin at the levels that they are. Additionally, I greatly appreciate the technical solutions and ideas that Gregory Maxwell has created.
As an aside, it is a sad commentary when morality is considered by some to be a "fringe political belief".

I, too, would like to know... I figured it out...see the link referenced above for details.

How exactly? I'm not a techie and that link doesn't make sense to me...(I have a Mac) dont worry about the link just create a new file and add "checklevel=2" inside that file as text and then save as bitcoin.conf. Thanks! That worked perfectly! What a great community!

Get a new bank, problem solved.
+1 Stop using banks altogether - Bitcoin was created as an alternative to this monetary tyranny. Why should banks embrace it?

Have you never taken a test like that before? Stop being a scaredy cat. That information is compiled by the credit agencies. It's called knowledge based authentication.
No, I have not seen anything like that before, which may explain my apprehension. I am asking how they linked it to me as I don't believe I provided enough information about myself that should allow them to. Yeah, it's like a built in credit bureau that knows everything about you and matches you up with your ID through the various questions. Creepy if you ask me. That is why, if you value privacy, that you should do all of your trades locally through person-to-person transactions.
