Amazon sells sex toys and yet they're still considered a family friendly retailer.

Correct, but on Amazon it's not "in your face" - you have to search for it. Just from a pure business standpoint I believe this will cost spendbitcoins.com customers. Who knows? Maybe they'll gain more than they'll lose. I would definitely recommend a family-friendly competitor over spendbitcoins.com if Jeremy keeps it the way it is. This is too bad, especially after the great coverage he received on The Bitcoin Show.  Sad

I apologize for the rambling thoughts but, if you offer porn on spendbitcoins.com, there will be room for someone else to open a family-friendly buying site that will take a portion of your customers. There's a time and place for certain things and I think your site is a bad place for porn.
623  Economy / Goods / Re: Spend bitcoins on porn on: July 29, 2011, 07:31:44 PM
It now seems like you're trying to be all things to all people. I think it would be better if you created a separate porn site with its own domain name. Keep this one family-friendly please!
624  Economy / Goods / Re: Spend bitcoins on porn on: July 29, 2011, 07:29:47 PM
I'm not a prude by all means but this will be a turn-off to a lot of people. You may want to consider having another click through page with an explicit warning before entering. With that said, I don't know if I would be putting that on the front shelf if at all.  Not too excited about your site now becoming a porn site. I liked to send a lot of people to spendbitcoins.com but now I'm not so sure. Just my 2 bitcents.

it's a limited edition watch produced for the bitcoin community. Of course the style will not be for everyone. I consider it a unique watch to commemorate the early years of bitcoin before it becomes mainstream.
629  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: [ANN] The World's First Bitcoin Luxury Wrist Watch! on: July 29, 2011, 04:11:54 PM
We thought about that but we ultimately decided to keep it on the rotor - only to be revealed by displaying the beautiful movement through the exhibition case back. In keeping with bitcoin's "crypto" theme, it's almost like a "secret key" - displayed only to those you want to share it with.  Smiley

UPDATE: Dial will now say "BITCOIN CHRONOGRAPH"

633  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is the Best Safest Easiest Most Trustworthy Web-based Wallet for Non-Techie on: July 29, 2011, 12:56:10 PM
For now, keeping a small balance on InstaWallet.org as described below works well for me:

Nice and easy wallet solution for iPhone:

 (Source: http://bitcointraining.wordpress.com/2011/07/05/simple-wallet-solution-for-iphone/)

I’ve put together a simple tutorial for iPhone users where you can have quick and easy access to an online wallet where you can keep bitcoin “pocket change” – (enough for meals, taxi fares, small payments, etc.).  This would be the equivalent of what you would carry in your regular wallet for your daily needs.

Here’s how I did it:

I opened my iPhone browser and navigated to the link:  http://www.instawallet.org

This url creates an instant URL unique to your browsing session and it assigns you a bitcoin payment address that is visible right on the screen. The first thing you want to do is bookmark this unique URL. Next, double click and copy the bitcoin payment address that is generated for you on the page. Paste it into a new “Notes” page on your iPhone notepad. Make yourself a note that this is your “InstaWallet payment address” for receiving payments. This is the address you will give to others when you want to receive a small payment.  Here is what my Note now looks like:

    My InstaWallet payment address:

    1ME6HTc8aYtzkb43HfpmzGBtdGb7bfJMKz

I also emailed to my iPhone my bitcoin “savings” payment address (this is my separate and secure bitcoin wallet address to where I keep my savings at home) and then I copied and pasted this savings address to my same “Notes” page so it now looks like this:

    My InstaWallet payment address:

    1ME6HTc8aYtzkb43HfpmzGBtdGb7bfJMKz

    My Savings payment Address:

    1ME6HTc8aYtzkb43HfpmzGBtdGb7bfJMKz

[Note: in this example I've used the same payment address for both but in reality I have a separate payment address for my "savings" address]

With my unique InstaWallet URL now saved as a bookmark in my iPhone, and my “sending” and “receiving” addresses in my Notes page, I am now almost ready to do business.

First I send a small amount of funds from my “savings” account over to my InstaWallet payment address. My first transfer was a few of bitcoin (about $50 worth). In my bitcoin “savings” client I save and label my InstaWallet payment address so I’ll have it quickly available for the next time I want to “top up” my iPhone wallet.

Now I am fully prepared to engage in small transactions quickly and easily from my iPhone. If I want to stop on over to Mezze Grill for lunch I simply scan their QR code for the bitcoin payment address, open up my bookmarked InstaWallet page, and paste the payment address into the payment field and press “send payment”.  If my buddy wants to reimburse me for drinks I simply open my Notes page, copy my InstaWallet payment address, paste it into a text and send it over to him so he can pay me. If I end up receiving several small payments that add up to more than I feel comfortable keeping in my mobile wallet I simply send a payment over to my “savings” address.

My iPhone is password protected and I don’t carry around any more money in this wallet than I can afford to lose without too much heartburn. If I wanted, I could also securely write down my unique InstaWallet URL and keep it in a safe place in case my iPhone is lost or stolen. In the event my iPhone is lost or stolen I could simply enter the URL in my home browser and spend out the funds to my savings account.

There you have it – a simple and easy mobile wallet for your iPhone! If you found this info valuable please send a tip to my payment address above and help buy me a drink!

Enjoy!

Yes, at BuyMyBitcoin.com all transactions are settled off-site. Reputations help build trust and the actors can work out their own arrangements - be it escrow or trust.

Reputation doesn't matter on an exchange when you are guaranteed to get your btc/$ the instant the trade goes through.

With your method, sure you can trust somebody until they decide a certain trade is worth ruining their reputation.  Until then you need to deal with language and time zone issues, and wait until the transfer goes through through various means.

I really don't see the advantage.   Undecided

The advantage is that, while the reputation system is imperfect, it is one of the few ways of reducing risk and facilitating trade when dealing with digital cash. Escrows are imperfect too but if you combine the two you can achieve a great alternative to the traditional exchanges. It helps to decentralize the exchange process as well. If one or two big exchanges go down, the price discovery mechanism suffers - especially if there are no alternatives.

This also avoids the (possible) event where exchanges will be brought under the "know your customer" rules and you may have to provide identification documents and such. The auction listing format avoids the need to handle other people's money and this reduces the risks of future regulation.

These reputations will be useful for conducting other transactions as well. Much like people point to their ebay reputations for off-site transactions. Same security precautions should be taken though.

thats an exchange just like mtgox right?  he's talking about an auction site like ebay.
Correct.

 to be more exact :
 thats an exchange -> yes

 like mtgox -> no

mtgox is a real time exchange, you wont know who is selling you bitcoin and the seller  scammed by the buyer ( reverse paypal for example )

bitmarket.eu is a p2p exchange, you will know the seller, send payment yourself . . . and you can be scammed by your buyer

is there an auction site for Bitcoin related items?

Not sure, but we've decided against that for this site. This is intended to be focused on auctioning bitcoin only so widgets don't clutter it up. The purpose is to build reputations and create price discovery off of the exchanges. It's another way of helping to create publicly viewable price discovery without having to rely on the major exchanges - it's also another effort to decentralize the exchange mechanism.

you mean like https://bitmarket.eu/  ?

I've used that site, it works pretty well.

One of the primary benefits of using BuyMyBitcoin.com is that you can build a reputation. Also, this creates another form of price discovery away from the exchanges.
