101  Economy / Economics / Re: 10k BTC bid wall...Is this activity normal? on: July 10, 2011, 01:13:57 PM
I wonder if we'll see the circuit breaker of MtGox set off soon, just like last weekend.

102  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Bitcoin traders, why don't you just trade forex? on: July 10, 2011, 01:10:50 PM
forex has margin calls, bitcoin does not

most 'cheap' forex markets and are unregulated and are just simulated games, your not actually trading on the open market.

when said person accepts my offer, is there a new box where I can put contact info and my BTC address?

the exchange happens automatically, as your $$ is loaded in and the sellers btc is loaded into gox system too. so gox just takes $$ from your account gives it to seller and takes btc from seller and puts it into your account. then you withdraw your btc to a btc address you supply.

108  Economy / Trading Discussion / Re: Mtgox's 2 Factor Authentication: Yubikeys on: July 10, 2011, 12:07:15 AM
What scheme is Mt. Gox using? Are they using Yubikey's verification servers? Do they generate the key and burn it into the token themselves? Or can the user program the token?

We use our own AES keys (two random AES key by user) and burn the tokens.

We will provide in the future an option to unlink a token and retrieve the keys & programming codes.

sounds good.
109  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Today Im meeting the guys writting the new Iceland constitution to talk Bitcoin on: July 10, 2011, 12:05:55 AM
Just make sure that their constitution bans legal tender laws and fiat currencies.  Use Panama as an example.  This is what's been in their constitution since the formation of Panama over a century ago:

"There will be no forced fiat paper currency in the Republic. Thus, any individual can reject any note that he may deem untrustworthy."

See this article on how stable Panama's financial system has been vs. even the U.S:

http://mises.org/daily/2533

EDIT: It would also help to ban any form of capital controls as well.

well if you make a 'buy order' for and there is a matching 'sell order' the transaction happens onterwise it waits till there is a match. you pick the price.

your 'safe' from getting scammed so to speak when using an exchange so long as the exchange itself doesnt have issues.

Gox and TH seem popular and fine at the moment.

you just open an account, they give you details to send your btc to them, they credit it to your account. you set a price, if that price is met with a buyer, your account gets credited the value in $$$ and your btc passed on.

then you withdraw via chosen method which varies between exchanges and countries, from options like bank wires, dwolla exchanges or liberty reserve withdawl to same some.

when you go to these sites you can read about their methods and fees.
