You better revise that.  This coin will get raped by multipools if it ever gets popular.  In fact, all the coins will be mined out in the first 4 hours of this coin going online if it gets like 10gh/s hash.

DEDICATEDPOOL will be going down for about 30 minutes at 12:55am EST for some hardware upgrades.  We will be back up as soon as we can.  This is in about 25 minutes from the time of this post.

Make sure you have failovers setup.  We should be back up around 1:30am EST.

seems like mining is stuck at block 4999 for a couple of hours now

Its stuck because difficulty is high and miners left suddenly. It will take time to solve blocks and get it going again.

No, that's not the reason.  BCC has been a victim of a timewarp attack it seems EDIT: The checkpoints are wrong in the wallet.  Same thing happened to Aiden.

In fact, this coin has been heavily attacked from day one.  No idea why.  ON dedicated I've had to mitigate attacks on stratums and web because of this coin.  Someone obviously doesn't want it to succeed.

Also - the BCC wallet keeps randomly crashing for no reason.  Never had a wallet crash like this.  There is nothing in the logs to say why either.

Sad Any help would be highly appreciated!

I would suggest nobody make any transfers until this is fixed.  I think because the block will invalidated, that any transfers from wallets will have their coins returned after a reindex of the blockchain, but just to be safe I'll be disabling cron payouts on Dedicatedpool until we know more.

In fact, further investigation of stratum logs reveal this:

2014-04-28 17:15:33,167 INFO template_registry # Yay, share with diff above 100000
2014-04-28 17:15:33,167 INFO template_registry # We found a block candidate! 00000000253f79e4f244e44d678e0bce0c9895b033eb6ae1975d40d1836321a4

And since it's 4999 and won't go to 5000, there might be something in the code like a checkpoint.  When you forked this coin, did you check your checkpoints and make sure they were deleted from the last coin?

EDIT:

Here's the problem.  You didn't delete the old stake checkpoints from the fork:

Line 24 in kernel.cpp

static std::map<int, unsigned int> mapStakeModifierCheckpoints =
    boost::assign::map_list_of
    (     0, 0xfd11f4e7u )
    (  5000, 0x1d88a220u )
    ( 10000, 0x3bae1eb9u )
    ( 15000, 0x8c6b5d66u )
    ( 20000, 0x90881334u )
    ( 21330, 0xe07fa575u )

Actually I have to admit, I'm not sure how the "stake checkpoints" actually work, but it seems they are affecting, in some way, the checkpointing for the PoW blocks.  I checked checkpoint.cpp and it doesn't have any checkpoints mapped.  Anyone else comment on this?  I don't have the time right now to look over the PoS code.

506  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [PRE-ANN] - The WhiteCoin Foundation - Community Planning & Discussion on: April 28, 2014, 01:56:54 PM
What gets me is the fact that some people may actually believe these trolls/FUDsters.

When something happens in my life, I always take those next critical thinking steps and ponder, 'why are they doing this, what is their motivation.'  Usually that comes down to 'follow the money.'

So what motivation do trolls have to come here and post negativity about this coin?  Surely anyone so negative about Whitecoin would have already sold their position, or never mined it in the first place.  So they'd have essentially washed their hands and been glad they got their money.  They wouldn't be wasting their time here bashing a coin they have no stake in any more.  But let's say maybe the reason they are here is because they can't trade their coins on a market because all wallets are frozen on those markets.  But that doesn't make sense either why they would be bashing the coin, because if they still had a stake in WC, they would be trying to create positive energy to pump the coin's value up.

So if both these situations fail to explain the logic behind these trolls, what other logical case could be applied to the trolling situation?  Well, lets follow the money.  If they don't have any stake in WC, their trolling must be a direct result of an ulterior motive that is not primarily known to most.  Quite possibly they have stakes in other coins that may or may not have a direct monetary shift due to the popularity of another competing coin.  This sounds like the most logical situation, does it not?  Another possible situation is that people are trying to drive the price down even further in order to buy up cheap white coins before it gets pumped again.

I implore people in this world to think through the motivations of people a little further than what it seems to be on the surface.  Don't get pulled in to the trolling.

My motivation is two fold.  I like being a positive energy in the crypto community.  Because of this, I have stakes in both black and white coins.  There is no reason both cannot co-exist.  So can we stop the trolling on both sides please?  Is it not positive for either coin.

Thanks,

binary

I don't think it's one specific community, the BlackCoin community is very nice. It's generally people who want to invest at extremely low prices scaring people.

Possibly.  It doesn't need to be blackcoin only though.  And it doesn't really need to be a community. I've seen some generally nasty people out there that will stop at nothing just to get people to sell one coin, and buy in to another.  One stop to any trollbox and you'll see this in action within about 15 minutes.

I just wanted to update people before going to bed.

Whitecoin is a blackcoin clone, yes.  But there are a ton of people who missed the blackcoin boat and now are whitecoin supporters.  In the end, both coins can survive peacefully together.

If you are selling below 1000, be prepared to be very sad.  Once the new wallet comes out, whitecoin should rise up because right now it is very undervalued.

Think about it, if it's hanging around 1k right now with the problems at hand, wait until the problems are fixed.  Whitecoin community is strong just like the blackcoin communtiy.  We should continue to support this coin going forward.  It really is one of the gems of scrypt.

Furthermore, you know a pump is coming.  There was way too much hash on this coin just to let it wither away... think about it logically for a second... whitecoin is here to stay and will go high.

I think confirmation for mined blocks are 350, not 300 as mentioned in thread.  We have gone over 300 on dedicated but the coins in wallet are still immature.

Anyone confirm?

If you were having troubles connecting to the stratums on our orangecoin pool, try again.  I had created a new stratum server for this coin but didn't set the open files limit high enough (doh.)  An oversight on my part.

heh heh. a mini miner like myself went for a wee bit of solomining right from within seconds of the start. was over 300k dif. now its over 10 million. I gave up within seconds.
now on dedicated. obviously only big guys can get head start and get a few blocks.
think game over for guys with small rigs.
Can't distribute coins. all ends up in a few large bags.

I love the icon though.

I tend to agree.  Scrypt ASICs and large GPU farms have pretty much made it really tough for the small fries, including myself.  I only have 8MH/s, but I'm still able to do pretty well.  On whitecoin my 8MH/s mined 75k blocks in the PoW stage.  So it's not complete over for the little guy.

Anyways, ASICs use less power, less heat, are much more efficient.  Nobody is going to continue to buy GPUs anymore.  The GPU phase of crypto is done because the profits aren't high enough any more to sustain the cost of power, and the heat over the summer period will be killer for GPUs.  x11 will not save GPUs either, again, because of the slim profits.

You need to go Scrypt ASIC to stay in this game.

However, I still think at least for the next few months you should be fine still to make profit.  Just mine coins that you know should do well down the line and you'll make good profits.  This game is not longer a "mine and dump" game. You need to mine and hold to wait to see if a coin will rise.

source is being updated on gitbhub, new wallets seem to be in the works.  Very good news that someone is coming to help out.  Glad there are some in the community who still help instead of troll and whine like a bunch of bitches.

This.

Pretty much ignored 90% of the posts.  Crypto is community, and open source.  If the project is in trouble, intelligent people can continue development on it without the original developers.

Obviously the trolls that are commenting do not have this ability or intelligence.  They are not trying to get real answers or provide solutions.  This is why their comments are ignored as garbage/trolling.

Anyone selling at this point is retarded.  There was way too much hash on this coin for people to just give up on it, and it will continue to be a great performing coin.

PS: Just for the record I am an OP on the #blackcoinpool channel too.  There is no reason both coins cannot prosper.  Let's start to make crypto better, instead of this cesspool some of you gentlemen make it out to be.

An important update regarding whitecoin

I would like to thank everyone for their support. I am amazed at how this community has come together. Since announcing this, I've had hundreds of people reach out to me offer moral, material, and technical support.

A work group of major stakeholders in whitecoin has been assembled, our plan is to commission a dev to properly update the wallet for us in the coming hours. We have found the dev we need. However, we feel it is only fair that those who are devoting their expertise be compensated. Real people with real jobs will be dropping everything to save whitecoin.

Our plan will be handled via a transparent process, we will not accept code from an anonymous or non-qualified dev. Here are some basic facts for everyone:

1. The premine is gone, we believe it was dumped long ago, and still no contact from the whitecoin creators.
2. A vast and financially backed alliance is forming to create a legitimate whitecoin foundation.
3. The blockchain is secure and your coins are safe.
4. We expect to release a wallet update within 24 hours if not much sooner.
5. To continue to protect the block chain, if you support this plan, we ask you to point your hash to whitecoinpool.com at port 3377
6. We continue to request that all users avoid transferring their coins wallet to wallet, and that exchanges not permit exit of whitecoin until the update and hard fork.
7. Notice of the hard fork will be given in advance.
8. Transparent fundraising via an escrow service will be announced tomorrow so that whitecoin can move to the next phase and recover.
9. All users at whitecoinpool.com (chunkypools) were protected from this crash by virtue of the fact we had no time or faith to process our final WhiteCoin buys once this situation became clear. Your hash from the last 24(approx) hours has been protected as BTC, payouts will resume in the morning.
10. After this message you will not hear from us until morning, when after I've received an update on the new devteam's progress, I will make a followup announcement.

My personal goal is to see WhiteCoin move to 10K sat+ where our community believes it should be. I won't quit until that happens.

Thanks again for all your support and patience, point your miners, let's get some sleep, and it's a new day for whitecoin tomorrow.

With highest respects,

Chris Salsman

Gentlemen,

This morning for about 2-3 hours, the block processing jobs were not running. This resulted in the frontend not showing found blocks or processing payouts for a few hours.

This issue has been fixed now.  If you were not seeing blocks processed or getting payouts, please check now and all has been fixed.

All hashes/blocks mined in the past few hours have been retroactively applied.

Thanks to everyone who mined on Dedicatedpool for Whitecoin!

At the end of PoW, I disabled payouts for an hour or so to make sure that after there was a big change in hash power on the coin, that there were no forks.

Now that the dust settled, I have successfully sent 50 WC to mintpal and it succeeded.

If you have whitecoin you need to withdraw, please log on and get them now.

Thanks!
