281  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig died :( on: May 05, 2018, 08:04:36 PM
I'm not quite sure that failed power switch could cause such hige problems to your rig, basically it has 2 positions - off and on, while it is off - the contacts are free, and while it is on  the contacts are short. If we will leave contacts short for the long time, nothing bad should happen..  maybe you can try to reset the bios on mainboard
I think when switch got stuck in the middle, it was in a postion where electricity was passed and stopped passed and stopped and this might have happened a lot of time in those few seconds which caused the PSUs to give up. It is still strange how such a small thing can cause damage this big. Antec True Power Classic were supposed to be strong. I think they are made by Seasonic.

I knew something was wrong with that swith from day one. It's mechanism was faulty. I remeber one time I switched it off but my rig was still running, the switch's mechanisms was free. It was on my list to change it but now the damage has been done.
282  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Mining rig died :( on: May 05, 2018, 07:46:09 PM
GOOD NEWS ! All of my GPUs are safe. MoBo is good too. But my two PSUs are dead. I tested them with the good ol paper clip trick but they are unresponsive. The fan doesn't move. Most of the article says that if it doesn't respond to the paperclip test, it's definitely dead.

Like one of the post said it might be just a dead fuse in PSU. They really look fine to me and I think it might a small problem in them but I can't risk opening them as it will void the warranty.

So I contacted the service centre and they said they will give me an upgraded model !!!!!!! First thing he asked was that do I use the PSU for mining, I said no I use it for gaming. Then he said to collect the upgraded model which is modular (mine is nonmodular) on Monday.

I didn't tell him that I have two PSUs. Now I fear if tell him I have two damaged PSU, he will not give me thinking that I use them for mining. I think I will also need to show my bill which is full of mining rig components as I bought all the stuff from the same shop in one time. I will tell them something like I am graphic designer or something like that. I can tell him that I have two 1070 in my pc with sli bridge and Nvidia recommends a big PSU even for one card so that's why I have two big PSUs. Let's see what happens.

@GPUHoarder

What has been your experience with the latest HLS tools from Xilinx? A few years ago, the performance of their sample Bitcoin miner was atrocious. A $2K board with the throughput of 80 MH/s, not sure why they even included that sample.

We are low level RTL here, so I haven’t messed with much of the HLS side. The big issue with FPGAs is people used to buying graphics cards that are all commoditized close to a low MSRP don’t understand that the FPGA market is nothing like this. The traditional market for these things was Avionics, Defense, Government, Nation States, etc. the price on digikey is no where near the actual price for someone building their own hardware, and the dev kits are expensive because they come with every bell and whistle you might want to use with a particular chip and they are low low volume. This is changing a bit but these VCU1525 dev accelerators are no different than Nvidia’s P100/V100 PCIe card’s or AMD’s old FirePro, now Radeon Pro multi-thousand dollar cards. They don’t cost 10x more to make, the target market is just far less cost sensitive.

The gap between ASIC and FPGA is also much narrower now than it was a few years ago.

If a market emerges to consume 100,000 FPGA accelerators for mining, someone building their own hardware with a good relationship with Xilinx or Intel can and will drive the cost down at least an order of magnitude.
Can workstation cards become useful for mining ? Damn ! They're gonna teach us FPGA next year in college.
284  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pinnacle now accepts Bitcoins ! on: May 05, 2018, 07:22:50 PM
If you are into sports betting like me, you are probably familier with Pinnacle which is one of the oldest and biggest name in Online Betting. They now accepts Bitcoins thorugh BitPay. Good news for Bitcoin by a big company.

(Sorry if posted in wrong category)

This is not in the wrong category and I guess it deserved to be in the bitcoin discussion. This is another good news and it is one among the flooding list of good news surrounding bitcoin. I am no longer surprised that people are holding faithfully to their bitcoins and I will also do the same. This time the mainstreaming of bitcoin is no longer a joke as big companies are entering into the picture.
Yes. I posted this because everyday I see a lot of negativity towards bitcoin and cryptocurrencies in the mainstream media but the reality is completely different with good news coming out everyday.

History has shown us that you either accept the technology/change (in this case Bitcoin) or you are left behind to die.
285  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Pinnacle now accepts Bitcoins ! on: May 05, 2018, 07:16:28 PM
Are you referring to this website? https://www.pinnacle.com/en/ because they don't seem to have bitcoin at the bottom of their page as accepted option.

Anyway it could be better to post this in service discussion thread or something. But this is pretty good as well.
Yes. I got the information in their newsletter, maybe they will add it later (at bottom of their page).
286  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Mining rig died :( on: May 04, 2018, 10:52:39 PM
My mining rig was stuck on a loading screen due to some missing files on HiveOS (it happens sometimes, no big deal) so I was unable to restart it from reset button so when I tried to switch it off from the power strip, the power strip button got stuck halfway and then there was little sparking sound  in the switch and I could see a little sparking from that stuck switch and then I immediately switched off from the board. Now I attached a different power strip and rig is unresponsive. Nothing happenes.

I am sure this will cost a lot but I wish my 12*1050ti are safe. I will take the two PSUs (Antec True Power Classic 750w) for repairing today and see what happens. Maybe my motherboard is dead too. All because of a faulty switch of power strip. Do you think I can claim warranty on any of these ?

If auto power up option was off, I think my rigs would have survived. I can't smell anything burning though.

UPDATE : See post below

For past few days ethminer keeps losing connection after few hours. Once i restart miner it mines for few hours then loses connection.
289  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 04, 2018, 07:21:12 AM
Premium doorstops
ZEC fork is coming.
ZEC developers don't like and don't support ASICs so Fork is already under preparation ... double think what will you mine with the Z9 doorstops after ?  Kiss Kiss
BITMAIN will be burn again like their monero miners....

BUY DOORSTOPS BUY AND AFTER CRY .... BUY BUY ....  Kiss Kiss

Some weeks ago ZEC developers told that they have to manage other problems
Maybe it's a decoy. They want the ASIC to come to out and then suddenly they will change their algo.
290  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 04, 2018, 03:55:16 AM
Guys, don't forget that you are all responsibles to make Bitmain more and more powerful

They will building a HUGE farm on US, and you and all miners are screwed, because they will make better and better Asics than ones they selling to trolls, and they will not sell, only whem became obsolete to then

Thanks guys to ruined cryptos

291  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: DIY FPGA Mining rig for any algorithm with fast ROI on: May 03, 2018, 07:12:51 PM
If this doomsday device is what the OP suggests.  I don't see how GPUs are going to survive this.  If the ASIC is a 10 kiloton hiroshima style weapon.  This is a 10 megaton hydrogen bomb.  And it's going to get dropped right on your GPU rig.

I wet the bed last night after reading this thread.   Wink Cheesy

This CPU/GPU/FPGA/ASIC cycle has happened 2-3 times over as some people have pointed out. Except this last cycle everyone forgot about FPGAs because there were more "nerds" back in the early bitcoin days. Making an algorithm FPGA "resistant" is probably easier than ASIC "resistant", and new algorithms will come out with new coins and the cycle repeats ;P

Looks like people re-discovered FPGAs this round again since the large ASIC companies have been going straight from GPU->ASIC while ignoring the smaller algorithms.

Id be careful in buying these "dev" boards though. They cost 5k because they are not meant for consumers. I could probably build a board with with these xilinix FPGA's for under 2k (and looked into it and been approached about it in the past), and that are designed for crypto in mind.

Either way its the same deal as ASICs...of course you'll make 300 bucks a day when there are 5 people mining FPGAs on a coin....as soon as 50 people jump on its 30 bucks a day...

Yes I know, people started mining Bitcoin with these FPGA and then suddenly ASIC came and people forgot about them. But now ASICs being released for all of the algos, I think gpu mining has finally come to an end and FPGA will live for a little longer (if it works). I think either NVidia or Amd should release new dedicated mining gpu or we need some revolutionary new algo for gpus. Also can you elaborate how do you make algo FPGA resistant but at the same time it won't be resistant to gpus. I know little bit about FPGAs, my friends owns some spartans and vertix 7.
292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Minexcoin - A new era of payments on: May 03, 2018, 04:12:24 PM
I am confused. This coin's main USP is low volatility which so far was unachievable. Now I want to buy this coin hoping that it's price will increase in future but what if its objective of low volatility started working now and then it is stuck on this boring low price.
293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 03, 2018, 04:06:30 PM
It's happening, the idea of decentralization are gone

Let's make Bitmain more powerful than ever, let's forget about tech and such ideas

The real purpose is money, money, money, let's squeeze everything until ends very soon
Gpu don't gurantee decentralisation and in real world less then .1% miner actually cares about tech. It was always about money. This is how you survive and thrive in a capitalist/realist world.
294  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 03, 2018, 03:05:49 PM
ZEC will be killed by shitmain.
GPUminers,welcome to XZC,

No, it won't. All you people who can't see that garage projects with videocards could never achieve global adoption, lack vision. ASICs are the future for pow, there is no other option. Efficient, stable and dedicated to securing networks. I'm not a fan of bitmain's monopoly, however, that's gonna change and rather soon from the looks of it. More and more companies are getting involved in asic manufacturing. And if you think centralization cannot be achieved through gpu mining, you're naive, to put it mildly.
The thing is gpus are really the cheapest super computers available to masses. In a lot of Asian countries, importing ASICS is illigal but even in a small town of a third world country you can easily buy a gpu, so it adds to decentralisation or democratisation.
295  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmain launches the Z9 Equihash miner on: May 03, 2018, 03:00:06 PM
Do you think that ZCash will change their algo. Do they have the guts ? Really it definitely looks like all of algos will have an asic this year. I think next one will be NEOSCRYPT. We need new algos. The cycle is repeating.

Do you think you could have problem with the govt. ? Do you have any backup plan like shifting your base if necessary. Are you updated with the current laws of your land regarding such project.
297  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: DIY FPGA Mining rig for any algorithm with fast ROI on: May 01, 2018, 09:00:02 PM
This is not the first time they are being used. People made FPGA farms for bitcoin and then ASIC came out to destroy them. The cycle repeats again.
298  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Mining (Altcoins) / Re: DIY FPGA Mining rig for any algorithm with fast ROI on: May 01, 2018, 08:16:01 PM
This is definitely possible but inaccessible outside US and algos mostly contain low grade shitcoin. I see a lot of coins that were considered good might die this year. It will improve once people start coming but still i will until Nvidia next gen comes out.
299  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN]INNOVA - when security is the main focus. ASIC resistance. Neoscrypt coin. on: May 01, 2018, 07:05:17 PM
I was researching on masternodes coin. You people do realize that this is a shit coin, right. Even their roadmap on their site has BIG typos. Q3 is Q2 and Q4 is Q3 so there is no Q4. I reported this months ago and they still didn't correct it.

Close this thread. This coin is dead.

 Case Closed.
