You should not run wallet on Windows. Period. LTC wallet of a friend of mine was robbed by a trojan horse he did not even know he had. Despite having antivirus installed.
Google litecoin wallet trojan windows.

Your friend's problem wasn't windows itself, but downloading and running random files from the interwebz while naively relying on a virus scanner.
Pull your heads out of your asses. No piece of software, be it OS or antivirus, will be able to protect you from yourself.

agree on that. but be honest, it's not only warez that has trojans attached, many pages/mails have these too.
How may times you just ignored ssl certificate warning and just clicked on a link ? don't say never.

1. i wouldn't run a masternode unless you know what you are doing
2. i wouldnt keep (the majority of) my coins in a (desktop)wallet, what OS whatsoever. just use paperwallets
3. every OS has its vectors, but more important every user creates vectors. Thats why i wouldnt run a masternode on a system that is used for something else at the same time.
3a. give your masternode a system of its own, and if you are not the next coding god, use a system that was meant to be a server and where there is already  knowledge about  how-to-tighten-it-up around.

// i dont run a masternode.
// i dont trust myself (skils) enough to gamble 1000DRK

i thought about the fuckup during the last hardfork.

one of the problems that magnified the trouble was the fact that darkcoin.io wasnt able to keep up with the correct display of the new versions.

so...

could we turn the section of the page that says
"newest version is 9.10.x and 10.10.x blabla download here "
etc into something like a dynamic table that reads eg. a json-string

and give some members the privileges to override that json?

you know what persons i m talking about, the folks that keep the news up here around
(and, NO I DONT WANT THAT PRIVILEGE FOR MYSELF)

i think that the display of the correct version number on the "official" homepage is more important than some people understand.
even if the downloadlink is correct, the display of the download version is also very important.

can we do this?

// i m not propagating json, it could be a txt-read, or something completely different,
im just talking about reading a file wich can be edited by some trusted members quickly

"It's Time For a Hard Bitcoin Fork"
http://hackingdistributed.com/p/2014/06/13/in-ghash-bitcoin-trusts/

... I can not see bitcoin to do a hardfork. i just dont belive that it will happen.
they rather watch and hope.
(and i  m not sure if the article exaggerates)

the good thing is that the masternode-system takes some of that vector away
(correct me if i m wrong)

I know we're always talking about price on this thread, and how well and difficult it is to mine drk, and what we can earn with masternodes, etc...  And when I think of everyone buying drk, and holding it to store the value of their fiat, I get a feeling like the most important feature of crypto currency is being forgotten.  Basically the reason for it's existence, is it's usefulness.  Its usefulness in trade and in transfers between people of different countries, speed, etc...

So in the end, that is what we need DRK for.  The rest is just the infrastructure of the coin to make it useful to people.  Normal people who want privacy or who need privacy.

Anyway, point being.... well, my train of thought actually trying to reconcile what the real price of DRK should be.  Soon we will have privacy up to 1000 coins at a time, big huge plus.  Tons of coins are held to be masternodes and for investment purposes, another huge plus.  But exchanging for cash is a little difficult at least here in the USA, When a trusted company like Coinbase allows us to buy and sell dark directly, it'll be a huge plus for me because I'm a little wary of the newer exchanges who are opening up drk/$ trades.  so still a little negative.

Now thinking about the only competition we have, Bitcoin, and it's value.... gotta remember it's ahead of us in popularity and has been around the longest.... And remembering that DRK is still very new on the scene.  We won't be that "new" much longer, as time goes by fast in the crypto world.  Considering all this, I know that DRK should be worth a hell of a lot more than what it's going for now.  So what's with the price now?  I sure don't know, but if I had some money, I'd be buying the stuff up like no tomorrow!  Wish I could!  LOL

Overvalued? I don't think so.. Have you mined some of the shit out there right now? It's depressing. Right now volume is elsewhere. And honestly good luck with any of the pow+pos coins. quick up and slam down. Oh and with vague anonymity promises. DRK is the real deal and honestly will eventually be priced a lot higher. Right now evan and the team are working there asses for drk coin to succeed and we should be promoting each update, fending off fud and looking for places drk can be used in future. Once all the updates are done and dark achieves a stable price we need actual ways of using dark outside our crypto world. This is something we all can do. I'm all for learning about trading properly but trading on chart patterns is pretty self fulfilling. What I mean by this is if everyone believes shape x means Y then they will trade accordingly. Or play cat and mouse with the belief that other trades will follow Y.  A chart only shows what came before and what's happening right now. After that is a more or less educated guess. The point of my ramble is to say traders will trade (they don't add to the value of the coin they aim to make profit) and right now they are trading other coins and we should be focusing on building the other fundamentals of an ecash. Places to spend. Markets, lending, etc.  Adoption beyond the miner/crytpo trader environment in which we all play. That is what will make this coin unbeatable by competition. And will keep it stable (at a way higher price than it is now)

/rantover

TLDR Let's stop talking about chart patterns and start talking about getting DRK beyond our crypto zone. A private store of value for everyone. Safe secure ecash. With a kickass master node system that can add all sorts of functionality.

And don't forget to thank the unsung crowd of President Chaeplin, fernando, eltito, propulsion, so many voluntary testers and others who are constantly working behind the scenes, not to mention the perma troll fighters (you know who they are).

I am one of those who hasn't forgotten AnonyMint either and how he initially shaped the Darksend MN discussions and how Evan took everything to another level. It is good to remember it from time to time.

i dont, and i would definitely add coins101, cosmos (not seen lately) and tante, TsuyokuNaritai, Alex and icebucket, minotaur and ozzy to the list.
189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: June 07, 2014, 08:44:53 AM
We want to make it clear that automatic checkpointing is a temporary solution that will be removed from the code as soon as we feel it is safe to do so. Though it is clearly beneficial for use as a failsafe mechanism while we perfect the code that powers Darksend, in the long term, the presence of a centralized checkpointing server on the network is unacceptable.

Sorry for my ignorance if this is covered elsewhere, but why is a centralised server necessary? Why couldn't for example new versions of the mining code contain a key which must be included in each solved block after a certain date for that block to be considered valid by those that have updated correctly? Thanks.

Because not everyone updates their client in a timely manner.  If the miners do not update, then the blockchain will fork.  It will fork until most of the clients are updated and it has a strong enough blockchain in the system to resist any forking.  This should only be required until all the dust settles.  I think Evan will keep it in place a little longer so that if there are any other issues while perfecting DarkSend, it will be there to keep things going.  Once Darksend is opened sourced it will be removed if not before then.

I'm guessing that it forks when multiminers come in to mine.  Those are pools that don't follow what is going on and are not part of our community, so the drop in, with old clients and a lot of hash power, and screw everything up.  Not on purpose, but that is the result.  I believe Evan said in another post, that the client will eventually ignore bad players like that, but don't think that's working yet Smiley

why not put the version number into the block-generate-information and set up a 80%-rule.
(i think BTC does it this way)

if eg. 80% of the last 1024 blocks are signd with the new version the fork starts.
it would assure that the main fork is stronger and does not further fork.
the missing 20% can fork as often as they want, they will never gain the majority.

// im talking about the future.
// this time we need the hardfork, i know that.

given the assumption that the global finance system will collapse - good or bad for Darkcoin?
Disscuss.

If at hand, assign citations to the facts you present, but feel free to base your opinion on history and common sense.

Interesting, https://www.bitfinex.com/pages/stats

Trading is getting very active there. DRK has had more volume than LTC 3 days in a row.

yeal , it appears so wonderful, and the drk coin is so innovative and many  peopel like it..

and more and more people hate it

Predictably so, people can be very clannish and petty. They get very jealous and angry when they miss an opportunity.

i do agree,
but i also would point out, that there is still an opportunity to buy cheap DRKs... Cheesy

Have you got some books to learn crypto-trading?
I'm sick of reading thoses advices that seems pretty steady afterwards, and place my trades only with a look at the direction of the wind...
So if there is som "crypto-trading 101", I'll be pleased to buy it.

okay, here i the first chapter:

1) buy DRK
2) hold
3) wait for it...

Who unleashed the craken on btc?? Is satoshi dumping finally? Tongue

wtf

Sorry wrong button :-)

sry,
i just bought BTC via localbitcoins,
to get some more DRK.

...but since localbitcoins always takes so long,
it means, that the BTC i bought will be less worth till they reach my wallet.

...and DRK is rising,
wich is a good thing,
unless you are waiting for your BTCs ....
