141  Economy / Speculation / Re: using futures to offset short term losses on: December 12, 2017, 08:14:37 PM
I'm don't operate a big mine, but I'm curious if there's anyone out there who is using the futures to offset your short term losses
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZUiMJ9iy7to)

I only feel safe if im holding the private keys of my bitcoins. The futures are nothing but some contracts in some computer, it is a distraction to me, the people involved don't even hold the underlying asset. If there are fluctuations in the price if I hold through it. Also you need a special verification to be able to operate with futures if im not mistaken, which I don't have anyway.

Did you happen to watch the video I referenced and understand the tactic that is being used? Basically, you'd crunch the numbers and lets say you'd short 10% of your expected mining rake at a lower price than you could make a profit after rent/electrical cost (if applicable).

I"m just curious if anyone is employing that strategy. In theory, it does check out.

canaan   1,424.56THs, seems they have dropped significant Hash Rate. I wonder why? Also, I am about growing my farm with Avalons, does anyone have specs on the new A8 that is rumored to come out in January. Looking to add another ~150 TH/s to max out my available power. Any info regarding the A8 would be appreciated. THX Mine On!!

Keep in mind they ostensibly do burn-ins on their batches...

Canaan has gone to great lengths to reiterate that any specs you see on an A8 at this point are BS. We (Canaan customers) have received notices to only believe what we see from corporate. I tend to rely on that, as they've always been considerably more honest in their overall dealings than BiteMe.

it is a really good way to look at things, instead of getting manipulated by everyone's guesses, as fun as they can be.

My Blockchain bitcoin wallet changes its address every transaction I guess for security purposes, didn't even realize, since I got my first few payments no problem. I updated my wallet address here in the settings after I realized this, but we had already matured both blocks. Are my payments somehow gone? Or have they not been sent out yet? Sorry for the noob question.

pretty sure you still have access to any addresses that you have on your account

Because Kanopool pulls 0.3% of total network hashrate, would it be correct to estimate that we should be averaging finding one block every 333 blocks?

Yes, we are all generously patient as we await our inevitable payments, BTC falling from the sky. Lovely.

In other news, I hope everyone has their dance shoes polished because its about time to start cut'n that rug!

hi everybody, i'm new in kano pool, i found everybody is nice.
i just want to know how much a day i can earne whit you
i have  antminer s9 14TH
can you help me please.

It's been asked a billion times in this forum, even within the last couple of pages.....

The pool has a ramp up and down process and there is a page that helps tell you what you will get once you ramp up.

That being said, I did the search for you.

tradebtc.net/bitcalc.php
Also the important point:
You get rewarded per block we find, not per day.

Since at the moment we expect to average finding a block about once every 3 days, you can expect each reward to be almost 3 times the expected daily reward calculation, but once you've been minig for 5Nd.

Of course, on top of the expected 100% PPS, you add the average expected transaction fees, and at the moment until the end of 2017, the pool fee is also 0%

Hey guys, newbie here. I am a bit concerned that the payout for the last two blocks found is not reflecting in my wallet. My other payments have been rather quick to reflect. I was having the payments dump into an online wallet and then I would transfer it to my Ledger Nano. I recently changed to go directly to the Nano and now the past two payments are not showing up. I check and checked and triple check the address. I have used the address before to successfully receive bitcoin to the Nano.

It seems like an unnecessary way to do it. You're paying a transaction fee which isn't necessary. Put the wallet address of your ledger as your payout address.

That is what I did. I didn’t have my Ledger before that is why I was using Coinbase. The payments showed up quick. The two payments to the Ledgerhavent posted so I was just concerned. That is the reason for the question. Seems they were much faster with the coinbase wallet.

Don't worry. You'll see them show up in the next couple if days. The reason that take longer is because the kanopool pays the transaction fee and processes the transaction for you so you're not paying anything, but it takes until we find our next block to actually process that transaction... As far as I understand it. I could be wrong. Can somebody else clarify or verify?

Thank you. That makes me feel much better.

No problem. You will be pleasantly surprised. I'm not even half way through my ramp up, and I'm seeing My payouts increase quickly.

under rewards it shows 414 hrs is my N ranges. that went up? even though I been in it since sunday. is that right?

Yes it is correct. I see 414hr 20m 6s.
I figured it would go down since i been on for 6 days. I cant grt the 5nd figured out.

Look at "Workers" > "Shift graph"

that makes it more clear. It shows you where your 5nd is

Also, read the "help" section of the site

Reboot, reboot, reboot!

hehe, oh man can't get over that.

Anyway, let's get some blocks Lady Luck. It's time to pull the wool over Variances head!

what would a reboot do? Would it not, theoretically, reset the circumstance of probability and therefore, in the long run, actually increase the time to the next block?

What if you physically damaged your hardware wallet. What sort of recovery process is there?

I really think that you can still access it as long as you still have your seed. So, having a hard wallet is not just enough. Make sure to make a hard copy of your seed, so that in case of emergency, you could still access your bitcoin even if you don't have your hard wallet anymore.

Thanks for clarifying. What I'm understanding is that a secure hard copy of the seed phrase is the fundamental action taken to create a recovery method.

The difficulty increase of 18.1% seems to have changed everything. We were going along pretty good until then. Is the only way to overcome that just adding hashing power? Would it take an 18.1% increase in miner hash to have stayed at the near 100% luck point?

edit: That would have been a 4.88PH/s increase needed just to stay current

It's affected most pools....we may be stuck in a rut for the next week and a half on this...  GRRRR

BLOCK BLOCK BLOCK

Stuck in a rut? How is this anything than variance?

When this bubble does burst there will be a lot of used miners on fleaBay Cry
When do u think it will. Or will it?

Maybe ill reach my 5nd before the block

a) Bitcoin isn't the bubble its the pin. My guess: Expect continued massive volatility but a continued trend of upward growth. -(edit) in fact, a lot of people point out how bitcoin gets stronger every time it's attacked, so who knows... Maybe we'll see more spurts of parabolic growth, then we'll see more crazy anomalies like when it jumped from 13k/14k to 19,600... WTH right? Then a quick retreat back down to 16,15. The jump from 14 to 19 is nearly 30%. We may be seeing those types of positive 'glitches' occur again. With the way media works, and how most sheeple take their queue's from msm, its reasonable to assume that going mainstream won't happen at a constant rate. It will go parabolic for short periods of time as percentages of subcultures join the ranks of the enlightened. I see the biggest challenge being that most people simply won't understand the technology and most people don't really care.(end edit)

b) yeah I only got things dialed in on the 2nd, so I doubt that I'll make my 5Nd before the next block - that would be a hell of a stretch, no whammies.

I have a similar situation. I just had an electrician friend install two 20 amp circuits to two separate outlets specifically for my miners. It was a few hundred bux, I think (still haven't gotten the bill). It took a couple of his guys a couple hours. So, its more than worth it for the peace of mind.  Cheesy
Remember that whenever possible, wire in 20A 220 volt.  Obviously that is standard in Europe.  You can get two miners easily on one circuit and it saves a little bit of power loss over the wire and in the power supply versus 110 volt.

I'm in WA state and residential panels are 110

Hello Dancers !

My first S9 will arrive tomorrow...
Here in good old Germany the electricity coasts are very expensive.
My House is from 1904 the power lines are the same age.
I hope I will not burn down my house, all I can say is: MINE ON! Smiley

Today my main breaker circuit in my house was melted, four days after installing 3 antminers secured after a 16 amp breaker (1 pointed to kano, 1 to slush, 1 to mining-dutch) . No lights in house, it took two hours before the called mechanic from the electricity company installed a new main fuse, the old broken one of 25 amp was replaced by a heavier 35 amp. Problem is here in the Netherlands you can not see or look yourself at the main breaker fuse, so I assumed it was already 35 amp, the current standard. Wrong guess, old house, old main fuse. Will cost me 2 days mining to pay him.

that sucks, man. That's cool that you've got it handled.
