danbi's DMD pool - never received a confirmation email. If you'd like me to test on your pool, please unlock my account

Your account is unlocked, but please note except at times when I am hacking the stratum/wallet code, your hashrate is wasted. We do regularly find blocks... and the wallet consistently refuses all of them. I hate to see how many coins we actually found Sad

just unlock the wallet.. psshhhhtt. Smiley

why is it such a huge deal for pool mining to get rolling? I thought the change in algo was trying to create a more equitable landscape for individuals looking to be involved.  The only thing that pool mining will ensure is that the hashing power is centralized and small solominers will leave.

Well, there are two sides to this. Introducing mining pools would indeed centralise mining, adding stratum which uses getblocktemplate makes it more secure for the network. But in essence they do the same job and 90% of miners wouldn't see any difference whether it's stratum or not. 'Getwork' pool is indeed a bandwidth hog but such pool would be a temporary measure until we release stratum compatible client.
Solo mining is a game of luck, you never know when you would come up with the correct hash - the more power you have the higher your chances, however already several people gave up on solo mining because of difficulty being too high for them. Mining pool with PPS for example is a different matter it allows whoever with whatever mining gear to join in and get paid for the amount of shares he contributed. We would definitely see more people mining making the coin available to greater group of people. Big MegaHashers would still keep their share while smaller ones would not waste their electricity in vain waiting for the miracle.

I think it should be a democratic decision and the community should choose which path to take. If there was someone who would set up an oldschool pool we would see how much hash support he would get and how much solo miners ...

I suppose that PPS makes sense if that's available soon it'll be welcomed.

its opposite way around
small miners are cpu or single gpu miner
and this people want to escape the solo mining lotto

i understand we all know pools will increase nethashrate

but main purpose of this mining is spread coins between as many interested people as possible

not that a few people earn a golden nose

the golden nose phase is later when even without mining u can see how ur diamonds increase  Cool

I don't think you can speak for everyone, because I don't want to get out of the solomining. There is a great sense of gratification that comes from accomplishing it on my own.

But I also don't want to be pushed out by pools.  It'll be bitcoin all over in that solomining will die quickly and pools will reign supreme.

Maybe its time to make my own coin which forbids pool mining. Smiley

Hello Community,

I want to update everyone on the progress of things and I'm honest as always just like each team member of Diamond Coin.

I don't want it to be another apologetic message but a frank assessment.

As everyone knows the Block Chain went down last Wednesday (for us it was). As we were working on a new client client for quite some time we thought it would make more sense to release it then and there rather to use hardfork fix on the old wallet and do another hardfork soon after to switch it to Groestl algorithm.

The whole sudden situation caught us with our pants down, but we were convinced everything would work, because it worked in the lab, unfortunately as it turned out soon after it failed in the field.

Some people here accused us of not doing enough testing and, yes we didn't do enough because of the crazy short time frame we had to stick to to deliver a working client for Cryptsy. It was ready by Friday, unfortunately the problem with the database forced us to concentrate on making a patch. After that it turned out that mining pools on stratum do not accept blocks. We had a bit of lax day on Sunday just to have a bit of breathing space as most of us have slept for 4-2h per night over the previous several days. On Monday after talking directly with the pool owners we switched our focus to the code and started analysing its behaviour. We have identified possible sources of problems and now we are rebuilding the code to make it work as it was intended to work form the start. We have our own stratum server and can test any changes confirming it plays nicely so we could be 100% sure we wouldn't see any unpleasant surprises next time.

We have made some changes in the dev team setup which is more optimal and allows for better quality testing. We all agreed that this release in no way meets our quality expectations and to overcome this we decided that we won't limit ourselves with fixed deadlines - we will deliver product that is 100% working with stratum and everything else.

The network is stable now, solo mining is working correctly, coins are transferable, I suspect there would be no problem with setting up working non-stratum 'getwork' mining pool (for the time being), Cryptsy is notified and should be working on implementing the new wallet this week.

I sincerely believe that you as community should not be worried at all, but trust us to put it right. We are working really hard and we won't stop until it's properly done.

Regards,
Alex

the main issue is getwork pools are not ideal due to the protocol. They are major resource hogs.

Phenomenal Network Hashrate in Diamond Happening?

Okay, if we correlate previous mining difficulty with previous network hashrate by taking the April 20 low in difficulty of 0.9, the April 22 high of 3.6, the April 23 high of 4.8, the April 24 low of 3.2, the April 26 high of 5.5, and the April 27 spike high of 9.9 and correlating those dates and values to the hashrate values of the same dates, that is to say, with the April 20 low of 61.5 MH/s, the April 22 high of 225 MH/s, the April 23 high of 327.2 MH/s, the April 24 low of 206.2 MH/s, the April 26 high of 375.7 MH/s, and the April 27 spike high of 735.2 MH/s, we can calculate an average ratio of hashrate to difficulty. Data Source: CoinWarz

61.5 MH/s to 0.9 = 68.33 : 1
225 MH/s to 3.6 = 62.5 : 1
327.2 MH/s to 4.8 = 68.17 : 1
206.2 MH/s to 3.2 = 64.38 : 1
375.7 MH/s to 5.5 = 68.31 : 1
735.2 MH/s to 9.9 = 74.27 : 1

With an average ratio of network hashrate to difficulty from our sampling being 67.49 : 1, and using a low-ball guesstimate of average current difficulty of 35, could we then safely estimate a current hashrate of approximately 2.36 GH/s in old scrypt equivalent terms and 20.86 GH/s in new Groestl algo hashrate terms?

That would mean that we've got one hell of a network hashrate happening! (if my assumptions are correct)

And that, of course, would mean there's a hell of a lot of interest in mining Diamonds!!!

Extremely positive for Diamond if you ask me.  Grin

BTW, many thanks for the contributions, even if they're mainly symbolic and not going to make me rich. Wink
It's the “psychic income” that comes from knowing you felt it important enough to take the time that is greatly appreciated. You know what they say, it's the thought that counts!

I assumed as much just watching the diff fluctuate so acutely.

I'm not mining very many DMD now that the diff is jumping pretty high. I've gone two consecutive 12 hour stretches before a block was solved.

Has something changed on the network?

Ok after a few more hours of playing around I think I might have gotten this pool thing up and running again but of course I need some guys to help test Must find a block!

http://173.175.115.172:15555/

No registration is required throw ur diamond address in the mix and have at!
NOMP default frontend will be changed if blocks are found to be valid!

I will point some hash this way.

It only updates when a block is found correct ? so you wont see how many workers are on there etc until then ?

show pools overall hashrate.. but other than that not much info is displayed on default nomp frontend

EDIT: bout to head to bed I'll leave this thing up, if this thing doesnt register your hashrate at all or if it goes on for hours without finding any blocks please send me a pm and or post here, I'll read it in the morning.
Can keep an eye on blocks found/rejected @ http://173.175.115.172:15555/tbs

did you solve a block yet?

I have a silly question for anyone familiar with the mining aspect of DMD.

I show one of my blocks solved having been received from an new address. All the other blocks are from the same address. Why?

Can anyone answer this?
292  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Diamond Coin (DMD) Evolution v 2.0 | NEW wallet, coin mechanics, 50% POS on: May 05, 2014, 09:10:35 PM
So what seems to be the issue with the pool? I mean, the NOMP stratum works out of the box with grostl algorithms without issue. What seems to be the problem with the pool? From what im reading the wallet is not accepting blocks? Can someone shed some light on this?

besides lower variance, whats the fascination is with pool mining? you'd do better to solomine.
293  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Diamond Coin (DMD) Evolution v 2.0 | NEW wallet, coin mechanics, 50% POS on: May 05, 2014, 08:23:15 PM
I am posting so much because its lucky. most of the time right aftger i post i mine a block. J/K ! fallacy... we all have the same luck in the end.

But I did solve one after my last post... I'm up to 18 DMD.

How is everyone else solomining doing?

Could be worse I guess  Grin

Have 16 since I started Friday night, less a few hours dedicated to a couple other launches. Last night was a good night though with a stretch that produced a block every hour or so until I hit the wall just before midnight. The next one didn't come for almost 9 hours. Those are the real downers  Angry

I probably would have given this up long ago but the low power usage and potential profitability keep me on it for now. Hoping the devs get everything worked out so it's kind of a crap shoot but what isn't?

doing nothing, that's a crap shoot!

I strongly disagree. The devs get paid. (The ominous 5% someone stated before) This is a commercial product.
If Microsoft releases something crappy everyone bashes Microsoft. It's just the same here.

Additionally your argument regarding solo mining is not valid at all. Only people with huge rigs can really solo mine. I tried that myself.
Pools for CPU coins are the only way your average non-freak user can participate.

I understand your frustration. Your frustration is completely valid.

However, I instead of being a stick in the mud, I'd try to spend my energy creating and moving toward a solution to this challenge. You do admit there are plenty of people, little fish like you and me, who are figuring out a way to make it work, don't you?

I hardly think I'm a freak for having one nice graphic card on a standard intel i7 4770windows 7/ubuntu workstation.

blablabla... asics are out of the (diamond) game, pools are not working yet (perhaps some hidden pools, but this doesn't matter)

Only people with huge rigs can really solo mine. I tried that myself.

Lol, this is the best time for all solo miners! I got 8 coins the last 24h with 2x7950 - and 12 coins with 1x5970 and 1x7950. Check http://www.cryptocoinsinfo.com/, time for solo mining.

Stop crying, go solo or buy some. Stop bashing Diamondcoin or the devs.

yeah i don't know enough to have an opinion on the ethics of this dev 5% thing, but I am solomining and grabbing up as many DMD as i can before diff hits high
296  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] Diamond Coin (DMD) Evolution v 2.0 | NEW wallet, coin mechanics, 50% POS on: May 05, 2014, 07:57:24 PM
The community is great yeah.
But you can't possibly be serious about solo mining this way. Never
Not at this difficulty.
Well maybe if you can mine 24/7. And don't mind the whole rig pulling more power than DMD is worth right now. (yes I know groestl needs less blabla it still needs tons of it)

Whatever, price is tanking right now because of this. Not "precious".

The 5% thing seriously hit me when I read that though. If DMD wants to be a real commodity for storing wealth and sees BTC in use for normal transactions, then think 100-1000 times the price of bitcoin as a target. Or more.
Just calulate how frickin much money the devs get paid if it works.

If everything works as planned, then OK. Fine. Get rich of it and be happy. But then the product needs to be UBER quality to justify that.

For the rest of our benefit can you explain your understanding of this 5% profit the devs are being paid?

The community should give the dev some credit  what other coin has switch algorithm... none so its  expected to have some problems they are working hard on it  ya it's been a week but we all have lifes familys and jobs too

+1, I've got no complaints. Nothing goes perfectly but I think this task went surprisingly well... most of us are solomining just fine. Its the pools that are jacked up and newbs that can't figure it out despite an abundance of free information and personal assistance from everyone..

you chose a nonstandard port? Make sure your firewall is either off or configured correctly for that port. try this:

I have everything works fine - why should I use port 17772? Inland ports on the computer can be any - it does not not affect anything.
I use this port for the production of various coins and never had any problems.

Yep you're right, but in general its a good idea not to deviate from the default values unless there's a conflict. That's true in all computing, not just mining cryptocurrency.

But, the point is that you're working fine so my comments are not necessary Smiley

What's the update on those pools? are they still no worky?  Personally, I don't care a whole lot but their difficulties may be part of the reason that price is slipping.
