The Big Ten will be playing catchup all season as some teams have already played 5 games before a single Big Ten team has played. There are a lot of intriguing matchups in week 1, and I’ll be looking at 3 games: Wisconsin vs Illinois, Ohio State vs Nebraska, Michigan vs Minnesota.

Illinois vs Wisconsin Analysis and Prediction
Illinois is led by former NFL head coach Lovie Smith. It took him awhile to adjust to the college game but it appears that in his 5th season he has the Illini in an upward trajectory. He got them to a bowl game in 2019, their first since 2014. The talent level has been steadily improving in each year of his tenure, with recruiting and use of transfers definitely picking up. They do lose their top 4 defensive linemen, so it’ll be important for them to step up as they face a daunting Wisconsin rushing attack.

Wisconsin has been a steady program for quite a while now and has been getting closer and closer to reaching the playoffs. They lose their star RB Jonathan Taylor to the NFL and their starting QB has gone down with an injury. For most programs, that would be very worrisome and you’d expect a step back. However, Wisconsin has proved over and over that their system is built to last and they are able to replace and reload. Expect Wisconsin to use their big offensive line and still have a very solid and balance attack. As always the defense will be stout as well.

Prediction: It will take Wisconsin awhile but behind their stout defense and balance attack they will dominate the Illini. Wisconsin 37 Illinois 14

Nebraska vs Ohio State Analysis and Prediction
When Nebraska hired Scott Frost nearly 3 years ago, their fans thought they’d have their savior to bring them back to their glory days. Through 2 seasons, he’s been a complete disappointment going 9-15. There is some optimism as he has shown his ability to turn around a program in UCF. His 3rd year will be very important for the trajectory of Nebraska for years to come. The offense and defense is projected to be improved on last year. They face a tough schedule so even if they are a better team, the record may not reflect. This face a daunting task in week 1 and will be hoping to make the game competitive.

Ohio State is definitely the favorite to come out of the Big Ten and make the college football playoffs. They have been on the cusp for a national champion for years now and will be looking to make another push. They are absolutely loaded everywhere even with multiple players going to the NFL. They are led by Heisman hopeful QB Justin Fields. He’ll be playing catchup due to the number of games played and will be looking to make a splash in week 1. I expect them to make a statement week 1

Prediction: Ohio State is too talented everywhere for Nebraska. Ohio State 52 Nebraska 20

Michigan vs Minnesota Analysis and Prediction
Michigan fans were ecstatic when Harbaugh returned in 2015, hoping that he would lead them back in national contention. The results have been mixed with him winning a little over 9 games a year. He has definitely made the program steady but fans are definitely looking for more, and in particular to get past Ohio State. While 2020 Michigan will have a decent squad, I don’t think they are quite there to be challenging nationally. Their #18 ranking seems appropriate. They’ll be breaking in a new QB and looking to start the season off strong against an upstart Minnesota team.

Minnesota has been on an upward trajectory with PJ Fleck as head coach. They had their best season in a long time in 2019. They’ll be looking to build on that and get a big ten west title this year. They return quite a bit on offense including star WR Rashod Bateman, starting QB Tanner Morgan, and their entire starting line. They’ll be looking to prove 2019 was not a fluke and that 2020 will bring better things to come.

Prediction: This game is very hard to pick and could go either way. I believe Michigan has a bit more talent and will grind out a close victory. Michigan 27 Minnesota 24

Khabib Nurmagomedov (28-0 MMA, 12-0 UFC) is one of, if not the most dominant fighter in UFC history. He has absolutely relentless grappling and has dominated nearly every opponent he has faced. He will do his best to get a hold of you and when he does, he will take you down and keep you there. He has been so dominant that he has only arguably lost 1 round in his 12 UFC fights. To go along with his absolutely exception al grappling, his cardio is off the charts and it seems he never gets tired. He has an improved striking game as well and mixed things up well.
Justin Gaethje (22-2, MMA, 5-2 UFC) has lived up to the hype since joining the UFC. In his 7 UFC fights he has either had fight of the night or performance of the night, living up to his nickname of The Highlight. While his background is wrestling, he does not utilize it at all in his fights. He is all hands on deck, pressuring his opponents with very good striking. He had a very aggressive approach which lead to mixed results in his first 3 UFC fights starting 1-2. While all were entertaining he was getting caught in slugfests ending up getting knocked out twice. While still using an aggressive style, he has been more patient in his fights and has reaped the benefits going 4-0 since. His last performance was absolutely fantastic where he outclassed a very good Tony Ferguson before winning in round 5. Against Khabib, he will need to keep the fight on his feet to stand a chance.
Prediction: This fight will be a huge test of whether or not Justin Gaethje can keep the fight on the feet like no one has against Khabib. I'm thinking he will do a good enough job to keep it on the feet as much as he can and earn a Knockout in round 3. Gaethje by TKO in round 3

Whittaker vs. Cannonier Analysis and Prediction
Robert Whittaker #1 vs Jared Cannonier #3
Robert Whittaker (21-5 MMA, 12-3 UFC) is the former MW champion with just an incredible record since moving to middleweight. He started his UFC career as a welterweight, going a modest 3-2. Since his move up to middleweight he has gone 9-1, including winning a title before eventually losing to Adesanya. He has rebounded from his loss, and defeated Darren Till a few months back. If he is able to win against Cannonier, he'll be looking at a rematch with Adesanya. Whittaker is a very well rounded fighter and is capable of winning in a variety of ways. He rebounded well from his first loss at middleweight.
Jared Cannonier (13-4 MMA, 6-4 UFC) is a former heavyweight that has finally seemed to find his right weight class. Like Whittaker, Cannonier didn't have the best start to his career, going 3-4 and heavyweight and light heavyweight. Since his move to middleweight he has looked tremendous going 3-0 with 3 knockouts. He has looked like a completely different fighter and it makes you wonder why he never fought at this weight class before. He has incredible power and proved in his last fight that he is a really dangerous and patient fighter.
Prediction: Round 1 will be a bit of a feeling out process with both fighters showing patience. Cannonier will find his shot in round 2. Cannonier by TKO in round 2

Ankalaev vs Cutelaba Analysis and Prediction
Magomed Ankalaev #11 vs Ion Cutelaba
Note: This will be a rematch of a fight from February that was a TKO victory for Ankalaev 38 seconds into the first round. There was a lot of controversy to the ref’s decision to stop the fight as it appeared Cutelaba was playing possum and wasn’t actually hurt. This is why we are seeing a rematch to get a definitive winner
Magomed Ankalaev (14-1 MMA, 5-1 UFC) came into the UFC with a lot of hype around him. He looked great in his UFC debut vs Paul Craig until literally the last second as he lost via a desperation triangle choke with 1 second remaining. Since that fight he has looked as good as ever winning 4 fights with 3 being knockouts (if you include the first Cutelaba fight).
Ion Cutelaba (15-5, 1 no contest MMA, 4-3 UFC) is one of the craziest and most intense UFC fighter on the roster. He is all into his opponents face and is all aggression. He has has mixed results but definitely shows a lot of promise. His aggressive style has resulted in 12 knockouts in his 15 wins. He will ensure that this fight will be all action
Prediction – This fight will be absolutely nuts for as long as it goes on. I believe that Ankalaev will have a false sense of security due to the first matchup and that Cutelaba will blitz him in the first round and pull off the huge upset. Cutelaba by TKO in round 1.

Their attack has been lead by new signee James Rodriguez and emerging talent Dominic Calvert Lewin. James Rodriguez has been a known talent for quite awhile and is looking to reprove his worth after a few shaky seasons. He has been absolutely tremendous, scoring 3 goals and 2 assists through 4 games. Dominic Calvert Lewin has been a young talent to keep an eye on for awhile. Through 4 games, Liverpool has scored 11 goals, tied for 4th in the league. Liverpool will be looking to rebound after a stunning 7-2 loss in their last game to Aston Villa, They have completely dominated their rival Everton as of late with their last league loss to Everton coming all the way back in 2010. At full strength/form, Liverpool is definitely the favorite in this matchup.

Prediction: Both teams have very solid sides with great attack. I expect this to be a good game going back and forth.

Houston Astros vs Tampa Bay Rays Analysis and Prediction
The Tampa Bay Rays have been one of the most dominant teams on the year posting a record of +20 wins in the win/loss column. They have shown time and time again that they are here for the long haul, especially after a tremendous win over the New York Yankees which turned out to be a grueling best of 5 series in which they simply snuck away with.

The nemesis of his series is the Houston Astros if you haven’t guessed it. The Astros have been on what some would call a “shame tour” having them been outed for cheating on route to one of the most recent championships they won. With everyone waiting for them lose, they have fought day in and out showing they are still the team they have claimed to be all along. Eliminating 2 of the top teams in the MLB above them, they have posted a wonderful 5-1 record on route to where they are today.

Offensively, the Houston Astros are nothing short of perfection when it comes to swinging the bats and keeping them hot. Several times, the Astros have come out and thrown up multiple runs to continuously pounce on opponents and make them seem helpless when stepping up to the mound. On the other side of things defensively, Tampa Bay has shown great strengths in pitching and defensively holding teams to lower run scored games, meaning this may play a terrible part to Houston’s game plan. If one thing is for sure, both of these teams have the offensive power to put up runs and add to the score meaning at anytime these teams can pull away from one another. Each team holds the counterpart to the other, which should make this series a low scoring bloodbath.

None the less, both teams have shown in and out, again and again why there are where they are. This series will be played in a grueling best of seven series which means each team will be battling for the next few days to get the best of the other. The way things are looking we could most definitely be in for a long series.

Overall, we’re given a Houston Astros experienced team who’s fought through the best and been through a hell of a run to claim a championship, despite people’s indifference of the team, against a Tampa Bay Rays team who has shown to be lights out and covering all angles of the baseball field offensively and defensively. Thought the outcome may not be easily predictable, and many people probably hoping to see the demise of Houston, I’ll have to agree it will be the end of Houston. Tampa Bay will do the little things and find themselves in great positions, thus leading to a victorious series against the Houston Astros. I predict Tampa Bay will Win this series and move on to face the winner of Dodgers versus Atlanta.

The World Championships have begun for League Of Legends, which will bring to a conclusion the 2020 LoL season! Being one of the biggest tournaments in esports history, it’ll be taking place in none other then Shanghai, China. To give a bit of perspective on how the tournament works for newcomers, here’s an idea of things will play out on one of the biggest esports stages in the world!

Novak Djokovic needs no introduction. By the time he is finished with his career, he will most likely be the most accomplished tennis players of all time. He is showing no signs of slowing down and has played an excellent 2020 French open. He won his first 4 rounds easily in straight sets before finally being challenged by the always game Carreno Busta. Djokovic overcame a slow start before putting him away. Djokovic is as motivated as ever as he is chasing Federer/Nadal in grand slams. He also would relish the opportunity to meet Nadal in the finals and beat him at his own favorite grand slam.

Stefanos Tsitsipas is a 22 year old from Greece, reaching his 2nd ever grand slam final. His big break through was on clay in 2018 reaching the finals of the Barcelona Open before being beaten by Nadal. Since then, he has been on a steady climb, winning 5 ATP titles including the year end finals. He has a very good service game backed up by solid overall play. His 2020 French Open started very rocky, as he went down 2 sets in first match against Jaume Munar, before coming back to win in 5. Since then, his level of play has increased and he won in straight sets in the rest of his matches. He looked very impressive against Rublev last round and will need to have a similar level of play in order to challenge Djokovic.

Prediction: I'm a big fan of Tsitsipas and think he has been playing very well in the last few rounds. Despite his improved play, I think Djokovic is a little bit too much for him. Djokovic in 4 sets.

Rafael Nadal vs Diego Schwartzmann Analysis and Prediction
Rafael Nadal will be looking to extend his record 12 French Opens, as well as tying Roger Federer in overall grand slams. His build up this tournament was a shock as at ATP Rome he lost in straight sets to Diego Schwartzmann in the QF. He has not let that deter him as he as looked great at this French Open, winning every match in straight sets. There isn't much more to say about Nadal, as he is the king of clay for a reason. He is a deserved favorite in this matchup.

Diego Schwartzmann is in the form of his life building on a finals appearance at Rome a few weeks ago. He has built on that success, winning the first 4 rounds dominantly in straight sets. His last round was against the #3 seed Dominic Thiem. It was a very good matchup going back and forth, before winning in 5 sets. He will be looking to build on his recent performances to have a chance against Nadal at the French Open. He is a very good player and showed that in Rome vs Nadal. Schwartzmann is a very game opponent and will be giving Nadal everything he can handle.

Prediction: I'm really looking forward to this match and think it will be very competitive. I still can't bet against Nadal and thinks he will take it. Nadal in 4 sets.

The Semifinal field is a perfect representation of how this field went. We have an up and comer Polish woman in Iga Swiatek, a 23 year old qualifier making her first appearance at the French Open in Nadia Podoroska, and 2 former grand slam winners in Sofia Kenin and Petra Kvitova. It should make for an a very interesting semifinal where all 4 have a chance to win their first French Open! I'll be previewing the matchups and making my predictions below!

Iga Swiatek vs Nadia Podoroska Prediction and Analysis
Iga Swiatek is a 19 year old up and comer from Poland. She has shown steady improvement over the last couple years and has shown glimpses of her potential. She has looked like the best player of the tournament and is surprisingly the biggest favorite to win the entire French Open. She has dominated her opposition, winning every match in straight sets. Her path has not been easy as she beat the runner up in last years french open, Marketa Vondrousova. Swiatek made Vondrousova look like she didn't even belong on the same court, smashing her 6-2, 6-1. A few rounds later she dispatched the in form world #2 Simona Halep, 6-1, 6-2. She is definitely the deserved favorite in this matchup and the entire tournament. Quite Remarkable

Nadia Podoroska is a 23 year old from Argentina making her debut in the French Open. Due to her ranking, she had to go through the Qualifying rounds, making it absolutely remarkable she is in the semifinals of her first French Open. She also, has been very impressive beating ranked players in Putintseva and the #3 seed, Elina Svitolina. She has gotten stronger as the tournament has gone on, dominating Svitolina in her last round. She is oozing with confidence at this point and could continue the run of her life if she is able to beat Swiatek to make it to the finals.

Prediction: Prediction: Both of these players are remarkable stories in getting to this semifinal. Swiatek is definitely the better of the 2 players and is in the form of her life. Podoroska will not be making it easy for her, but i think she will finally be outmatched. Swiatek in 2 sets.

Sofia Kenin vs Petra Kvitova Prediction and Analysis
Sofia Kenin is trying to build on her impressive 2020 run. She won her first grand slam this year, taking the 2020 Australian Open. There have been many critics thinking that the Australian Open was a fluke and that she will never win another Grand Slam again. Her French Open performance is shutting up those critics. She is in a great position here and could pull in her 2nd slam of the year. Her performance in the first 2 rounds were a bit shaky, winning in 3 sets in each. Since then she has gotten stronger winning more convincgly in her next 3 matches.

Petra Kvitova is also a former Grand Slam champion winning Wimbledon twice. While she has been etched in the top 10 for awhile now, there were also critics wondering if she would ever lift another grand slam title. She has performed very well and has won all her matches in straight sets. She has a very powerful serve game that she will be looking to take advantage of. This is her best chance in awhile to lift her 3rd grand slam title.

Prediction: This matchup is very even and will be extremely competive. I think Kenin having more close matches recently will be enough to propel her to grind this out in 3 sets. Kenin wins in 3 sets.
