801  Other / Off-topic / Re: Using Intel CPU and Motherboard ? Your Bitcoins may be in actual danger. on: January 07, 2015, 12:17:22 AM
open-source hardware is some years behind the current generation... I've always been thinking about this vPro component on Intel processors, perhaps we should look at Richard Stallman options: https://stallman.org/stallman-computing.html

or just use computers like raspberry pi or intel that does not have vPro to do important tasks till we have a solution.

Why don't you add to the formula that people get 30 random people from the most visited area that the user visits, that means that you'll need a formula to determine the most used forum by an user and then that it poops up 30-50 people from the 5 most visited area of the forums..

804  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How to choose mining software and hardware on: January 07, 2015, 12:02:31 AM
Hello, I am new to mining bitcoin and have a few questions. First, I bought a Avalon Nano ASIC and noticed it only works with cgminer. Still setting up cgminer (it won't recognize my USB.) Second, I'd like to see what other mining software would work with it (I'd like a miner with a GUI.) Can anyone reply with some software/hardware combos that don't cost much? And any miners w/ GUI. Thanks

Unless U r mining in a mass scale, u'll probably be losing.

It does not work that way, the relationship between ROI and Mining profit is linear if the variables hold still (difficulty raise and GH/S) that means that if you have 1,000 GH/s mining and you'll ROI in 1 month, you'll ROI in 1 month even with 10,000,000 GH/S, what really changes if you are going to ROI is the cost per kw/H, if you pay less than 0.10 cents per kW/h you'll ROI with many of the asics in the current generation of asics, just get some s5.

You could try btc-e obviously and then bit-x, although i have a signature campaign and im promoting them, i've seen the site and looks well, try it and post your experience here.

I've looked at this thread like 5 times already... please upload to github or any git-like site so we might look at the source code.

Also thanks for contributing to the community.
807  Bitcoin / Mining support / Re: Can't find Antminer S3 IP address - won't reset on: January 06, 2015, 11:44:46 PM
To find the ip, you'll need an android app called Fing, after you connect your S3 and power it up, if it connects automatically you'll proceed to go on your android phone and connect to the wi-fi of your router (the same one where S3 is connected, this is a must) then you'll scan network devices sand you ĺl see shenzen name with the local ip of the S3..

Let me know if you need any help.

what you are experiencing happened to me, perhaps you should configure your router to point a specific port to your antminer s3 ip, so it wont fail to connect via local ssh, if this does not work, try again from the last known internet that you configured the antminer.

I've made this kind of game, still finishing the design, i hope you'll enjoy it as soon as i release it with my partner
809  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: A sucker born every minute on ebay on: January 06, 2015, 12:38:19 AM
Its normal, before i get into buying antminer s3 i wanted to buy an usb miner and try it out..just to get the "feel" of bitcoin mining.

I would really like to use google authenticator, dont know why it was not implemented already..
811  Bitcoin / Project Development / Re: Raspberry Pi B+ on: January 05, 2015, 04:06:59 PM
Running a node with raspberry pi seems a big task but.. its possible, for example i was thinking on setting up my raspberry pi b + that ihave around as a cold wallet, but if theres a bitcoin-qt available for ARM you should go ahead and try it.

I've made a script for that, still in Beta, but works (some issues with btchip's HID keyboard replay and udev rule ...)

https://github.com/aussiehash/Bitcoin-for-SBC

Really nice, gonna test it out.. have you considered electrum for offline wallet? should be the same to use it with your model, in fact its better since i dont need the whole blockchain :O!

Really clean script, there's much to learn from it, I'll try to use it with my Archlinux ARM instead of Raspbian
812  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Advice wanted: Using One Address on: January 04, 2015, 06:34:45 PM
Just use vanitygen and generate your own unique address Smiley

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=25804.0

Download the window binaries, run it, import the privatekey of your new address to your wallet software (electrim bitcoin-qt armory, etc)

and then just proceed to use it.

814  Economy / Services / Re: Service - Betting through bet365 on: January 04, 2015, 03:03:03 PM
I'm interested. I see opportunities to arb with Bet365 all the time with live betting. However, we'd have to come up with something better here than 5% of every winning wager.

Feel free to do your offer via pm or post it here. I find that 5% is fair, so for example, if you bet 1 BTC and odds were 1.10, you'll win 1.10-0.005 BTC and I'll win 0.005 btc
815  Economy / Services / Re: Service - Betting through bet365 on: January 04, 2015, 07:10:41 AM
anyone is using it? if yes it would be cool if they could write what they think about this service cuz im interested

no one atm.. you could try it for your self..
816  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How much btc mined? on: January 04, 2015, 05:11:00 AM
for offline wallets you can use armory or electrum, for better understanding of cold wallets: https://bitcoinarmory.com/cold-storage/

having bitcoin on a hot wallet without a back up is a bad idea.. your computer is as secure as you manage your security, you should not hold btc on any online sites since its risky.

For electrum offline wallet https://electrum.org/tutorials.html
817  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How secure is it to set up a bitcoin node? on: January 04, 2015, 04:55:57 AM
Is a RaspberryPi capable of running a full node, actually? I though you needed a ton of memory to run a node effectively! How much memory do they have? I don't believe running a crappy node helps the network much, but rather cripples it even if the intent is good!

The memory usage for Bitcoin Core doesn't necessarily be that much. https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=765934.msg8632982#msg8632982
The heavy I/O load could be a problem for your SD card though.

its not a problem since its running on an external HDD Smiley

I've been monitoring it (downloading the database right now), and it does not go above 200 MB and I'm only allowing 10 connections till it finishes downloading the whole blockchain

I also use USBS for swap, my configuration file for fstab looks like this:

Code:

 #
 # /etc/fstab: static file system information
 #
 # <file system> <dir>   <type>  <options>   <dump>  <pass>
 /dev/mmcblk0p1  /boot           vfat    defaults        0       0
 #SDCARD

 #USB

 UUID=4fbfc14c-57c1-4449-9975-e5b90e14ac1e none swap defaults 0 0
 UUID=a0a96118-8332-4d64-a5ff-32c579548ec7 /var f2fs discard,noatime,defaults 0 0

 #HDD 4tb
 UUID=94d9f5b1-317b-4be3-83b3-d770bf820720 /home/XXX/Media ext4 discard,noatime,defaults 0 0

and df -h output:

Code:

818  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How secure is it to set up a bitcoin node? on: January 03, 2015, 08:13:39 PM
Are there any implications that i have to be aware of? I have not found anything about the security related to the nodes, information is appreciated.

Somehow I feel compelled to say: don't run it as root Tongue. Just in case!

Haha obviously.. thanks Smiley
Does anyone know how to limit upload/download speed? should i just get a program that does it per process?

1. Install "wondershaper"
sudo apt-get -y install wondershaper

2. Setup Up and Downloadlimits like this:
sudo wondershaper eth0 512 512

Thanks i've found dummynet and nethogs for monitoring.. its awesome, I'll also try wondershaper.

edit: seems like dummynet is far more complex too and its better used to simulate network traffic, wondershaper will do in conjuction with nethogs.

For references if anyone need
