Ever calculated how much power the creation of one block costs?
There are any number of actually usefull stuff that will be used for barter, like food and water.
People trying to do bitcoin in such a situation will most likely severely hamper their chances to survive.
Remember, this is the apocalypse. People rioting and stuff.
FIRST concern is staying alive.
Bitcoin will have exactly zero purpose in a sociatal apocalypse.

All i have to say is that this is HUGE black eye for Bitcoin Magazine.. I'm sure that if he already isn't relieved of his "Editor-in Chief" title with them, I would be very surprised.
I, for one, will not subscribe to the Bitcoin Magazine until this mess is taken care of or that Bitcoin Magazine comes out and lets us know that he has nothing to do with the Magazine any longer.. Sorry Matthew, you made your own bed on this one...
Mainly because I was going to use my winnings that I bet with Matthew to subscribe to the Magazine, lol..

Matthew welched on a silly bet, to try and prove a point. You guys are treating him as if he TOOK MONEY OUT OF YOUR POCKETS.
Considering how relaxed most people have been, in regards to Trendon Shavers aka Pirateat40 (causing most of my frustration) I find Matthew's situation to be a bit 'scape-goatish' under the circumstances.
Does Matthew really deserve to be punished to the extent he currently is being punished ?
There are far more people on this forum that have done far worse and still don't seem to have a scammer tag or their names dragged through the mud and THEY ACTUALLY LOST PEOPLE'S MONEY. Nothing was lost in the 'Matthew' situation, right ?
People made their bet because Matt told them to hedge for a pirate default when they could have sold their debt at 75% when the bet started. They did in fact lose money because of this. Stop trying to explain this away. He is a scamming fuck. Period. |

I will make a statement regarding this matter on behalf of Bitcoin Magazine and it's publisher Bittalk Media Ltd.
However, please do allow me some time to consult all the affected stakeholders. It might take a few days. Understood and prudent. I don't understand and this is not prudent, this was 3 weeks in the making. I would have had a contingency plan from the get go. This does not reflect well for them. The longer it takes the worse it gets. Period. And ban Matt from the forums. |

First honest thing you have said in a long time. You are missing it. The reality is as an owner and senior editor of the magazine your personal actions DO reflect on the magazine. People can't trust you (that is obvious) so why should they trust a company who trusts you. Either the company is equally illreputable or has horrible judgement. That has to factor in to the decision to do business (subscriptions, advertising, partnerships). Our company was considering advertising but we won't not until you are off the payroll. Simply too much of a risk. Your personality and low moral standards are a business risk. You are the senior editor. Can we trust your judgement not to defame our company in the event your personal feeling get hurt? Can we trust the magazine to take a deposit for advertising over the next 6 months and then just walk away? The magazine is more than just you but while you remain a part of it you are dead weight and a liability.QFT Also, why doesn't this asshat have the scammer avatar as well? |

He's a dumbass for taking more bets even now. He's a scammer if he doesn't pay out. It's that simple. BTW, There's no way he can win this. I won't accept anything less than 100% of Pirate's original agreement when this bet was made. That includes interest to the hour of payout. So everyone should pile on the bets. And if you're a business partner or future business partner of Matthew's. I'd be watching this closely. |
