41  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GBIT] GRAVITYBITS - SHA256 - POW/hiPOS on: February 03, 2016, 01:38:00 AM
Stake systems as they are normally characterized by their developers:

POS - Coin age is used in the calculation for both stake weight AND the staking reward. Staking reward is set by the coin's APR. The effect is a stable, consistent interest for all staking wallets, regardless of input size or reasonable downtime.

First coin: NXT Peercoin.

HiPOS - Coin age is used in the calculation for stake weight, but not staking reward. Staking reward is fixed per a schedule. Results in stable, consistent interest for staking wallets as long as down time is minimal and inputs are small. Large input size is harshly punished by HiPOS.

First coin: BitBeans.

DPOS - Coin age is irrelevant. All coins that are mature will add the same staking weight (usually 1 in the wallet hover display). Results in stable, consistent interest only for active wallets and only with small inputs. Downtime and large inputs will significantly impact your interest with DPOS. On the plus side, no age means that moving coins is less costly because lost coin age is not detrimental.

First coin: I don't remember, something crappy.

for someone named 'kingaltcoins' you don't appear to have a lot of experience or perspective on the coin game

(we all know the red text is him being upset he can't make all of $4 dumping at this elevated price point)

Well I never thought i'd say this but

DAMN IT MAN. Even SCAMS get more bloody attention than this.

I gotta make some fancy graphics and a bolox roadmap or something to get you talking

It's almost like most of us have mined hundreds, if not thousands, of alts that are basically indistinguishable from this.

I mean I'm still mining, that's what I do, there's just not much to say other than correct confusion as it arises and wait to see what's in the development pipeline, which is 99/100 times absolutely nothing.

It will take over 300 years to reach the supply cap at the stated interest.

In 10 years there will be only 70,000 coins total on the market.

Still, everyone should be aware this Virus has been found injected into downloadable spliffcoin.qt wallet.

People are getting on your case because strictly speaking a virus hasn't yet been found, that part of the process usually involves someone actually finding the virus files on a VM instance with the wallet installed.

I have been looking on mine and havent seen anything but I'm not an expert and I don't know every place to look. There's no need to rush to conclusions, if you are smart and running altcoin wallets in their own VM instances you really have nothing to worry about from virus devs and can be properly patient when these issues arise.

I've never seen those particular errors come up as false positives, fortunately as we aren't on exchange yet we have nothing but time to see what the truth is.

What a shame, sounds like ol' link-change-to-virus maneuver. On to the next one I suppose.

Has anyone made any bucks out of this new SwagBucks yet ? Cheesy

never hurts to leave a few high asks on the market, i sold a handful during that spike the other night
49  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][SPL] SPLIFFCOIN | X11 PoW/PoS | Next Level Cannabis Currency on: January 07, 2016, 04:20:32 PM
Nevermind. All you need to know is that these devs are the same scammer devs from floz.

We lost our money. Time to move on. When will the next ccex ico happen? I need to buy in early and sell out quick to make back my money from floz.

You get burned by an ico so you call a non-ICO coin a scam and then start looking for the next ICO? I don't think you're cut out for this game niktitan, my advice is cash out now and save yourself further embarrassment.

The ticker may be an issue for this coin for some exchanges, Gorillabucks already used it and I know exchange operators are often reluctant to consider reused tickers even when the original coin is delisted.

I tend to think any coin that drives the technology or use of crypto forward can be called a good coin regardless of the motive behind the development, so something like doge gets made as a joke but it introduces tons of people to crypto and ends up becoming something better than what was intended.

I like this coin because the dev added the splitblock thing and now any crypto can incorporate that code for free if they want. The dev never asked for ICO or tricked anyone to mine or any of that crap, and now we might see it picked up in other coins, and it was all because the Spliff Dev either wanted to improve crypto, or maybe just wanted to make a buck. Either way, the technology takes a baby step forward and we all win in that way regardless of the price. If they have other tricks up their sleeve this could be an exciting project.

For the record, the split block function was originally introduced in HYP by presstab.  I am sure the SPL dev got the code from there, which he is perfectly free to do as HYP is fully open source like most coins.

I've been away from the game for too long apparently, thanks for the correction.

botnets are a factor in mining prices but the botnet operator pays the same opportunity cost as anyone else to mine a new coin, because they could just be pointing that botnet over to nicehash or whatever else. and the cost to mine this coin has not been all that high anyway so I don't know why you'd jump to the conclusion of botnets.

you're right, of course, that all altcoins exist for speculation and not real use but the dev here is putting on a good show so might as well let it play out. pretty much the only thing a coin needs to establish itself in this grim altcoin market is a long term dev who puts the time in to add any kind of value to the qt, and we're off to a nice start already with the splitblock deal that lets people split their coins more efficiently for POS.

when new coin market caps are often teetering below 5 btc you don't need to be the next bitcoin to be a success...

You could post this thread any time in the last year and it will always have been true
55  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BUCKS] SwagBucks | Need Exchange | PoW/PoS | No premine | No IPO on: December 11, 2015, 07:00:25 AM
Saying there is no coin age is specifying the POS as DPOS. HiPOS and normal POS both use coin age to determine the stake weight. With DPOS, all mature coins have the same stake weight so coin age is irrelevant.

You can see later in the post it specifies that 50 confirms are needed to mature and begin staking.

It is a clumsy way of approaching it but the dev probably didn't want to put DPOS in the title, because why advertise that you're using the worst POS system?

(I'm mining anyway fwiw)

edit: it is also common for developers to have no idea what staking system they are using, this appears to be true DPOS though based on my observations
56  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][BUCKS] SwagBucks | Need Exchange | PoW/PoS | No premine | No IPO on: December 11, 2015, 02:52:41 AM
Is this your first DPOS folks? They always have insane stake weight. The "1" you see per coin when you hover over the icon represents an absolute fuckton of weight in the console, for every DPOS coin.

This one might be specifically worse, I haven't done any testing to determine what the relative magnitude of the weights are on normal DPOS coins, but I suspect your cause for alarm is unwarranted in this case.

(I have been a longtime critic of DPOS for this and other reasons, this staking system is more vulnerable to manipulation from every direction than any other)

How to tell if I'm mining?

I made a new task under the mining server tab, made a wallet, etc., it says 'running' under status but I can't see any other indication of mining (hash rate, cpu usage, etc.).

You don't me to tell you what I think should be done about them.

Unless they can be sent home on the blockchain, this would be an astounding achievement.

i like that you are using art assets from other games without any attribution. it really inspires confidence that you could make your own game.

not just anyone could post screenshots from another game. oh wait, literally anyone could do that.
60  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [GE] Greed Evolved • HiPOS & POW Hybrid • Inflation Blocking • Super Blocks! on: August 02, 2015, 07:54:03 PM
I like the changes. I think the name change is good and appeals to traders, which is the core of the coin.

Are you guys expecting him to release some bullshit anon road map or something ridiculous? What could possibly be better than another chain?

I think it's clear that the challenge is keeping the fun, speculative nature of the coin alive without having to swap chains to reduce supply. It sounds like that is what the dev is attempting with the next chain so I say, go for it.
