221  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: May 01, 2014, 08:04:47 AM
I always liked anoncoin but it is only traded on cryptsy. vircurex is dead and I don't even consider the rest of scummy exchange where it is offered. any plans to bring this coin into other serious market like bter?

I can get you to swisscex, our partner xchange. Sad thing, low volume but all legit.

What would it take to be listed on bter?
Here is the response to an email I wrote to BTER:

Dear Sir,
Thanks for your recommendation.
New coins will be listed on Bter by voting.
Please follow our forum or tweet for more details

Thanks

222  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][DRK] DarkCoin | First Anonymous Coin | First X11 | First DGW | ASIC Resistant on: April 29, 2014, 03:52:59 PM
Could someone point me to some documentation that describes exactly how darksend works?

To note: I have read the DarkSendDocumentation.pdf, the darkcoin white paper, and I have spent about an hour searching the web looking for information on this, but all accounts are overly simplistic, and oftentimes, contradictory. I suspect that there are many people like me who are not using Darkcoin simply because this information is not readily available.

For example, do you send money to a mixing pool first, and then withdraw it later? Do you need to use fixed denominations (10, or 100 DRK)? Can you check how many coins your transaction was mixed with? How many coins are in the pool? Do I send coins to a pool, or are they simply just mixed with all the coins that occur in the block? And how exactly are the coins mixed, what's the algorithm? Are there any studies on deanonymizing darksend transactions?

Thanks in advance.

Gnosis,

How do you respond to the criticism that you might indeed be able to use an algorithm to generate a number of unknown factorization that contains two large prime factors (the so called RSA UFO, a key part of a trustless solution to Zerocoin), but you won't be able to prove you actually used such an algorithm, meaning your Zerocoin implementation will require that we have trust on you?
Gnosis,

Has the problem described on this thread been solved?

Only Bytecoin and its forks are...

To explain BroTroxer's response, it's not that it's "just a stack of bills" to us, it's that money cannot readily buy large chunks of time from people with full-time jobs and other responsibilities (unless it's a large enough amount to justify quitting). We would probably need to find new people to help out, and this itself takes time because we have to verify their trustworthiness as well as their competence in their area.

Is this offer still on the table?

Gnosis, my offer was:

Quote
I would like to support this coin by matching any donations from the community up to $5,000 if they are able to fully implement and launch a working version of the Zerocoin protocol before June 1st.

This is a reward to the developers, and an incentive for them to keep working on the coin.

Yes it's still on the table.
Alincoln, How do you want to go about getting matching donations from the community? personal message? Or does an ANC escrow service exist? Perhaps just a shared doc somewhere?
226  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: April 23, 2014, 05:29:24 PM
Hi,

Before doing things like described there
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=227287.msg6112769#msg6112769 (promotional video etc,..) I have other suggestions to do in a preliminary approach of PR.

We could make a few improvement to ANC branding:

Here are a few ideas:

  • at first I think we shall find a new logo.

I have some idea for the logo but the best way IMHO is to do a contest like darkcoin did on designcrowd.com : you can check in those few links...
    https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=421615.msg5825307#msg5825307
    http://logo.designcrowd.com/contest.aspx?id=469921
    http://imgur.com/a/3LCoa
    http://imgur.com/a/7sy98

In this way the people will vote for the new logo which will sort things out quickly... funds shall be allocated for this first because without a logo there is no brand identity.
  • Second, I think the text on the website (about darknet and so on) is not appropriate for broad adoption. I like the way lunokhod2 presented the advantage of ANC in his wiki : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Lunokhod/sandbox , particularly Implementation of Zerocoin part. It shall be more vulgarised I think and understandable for many people (even on this forum darkcoin people dont understand their coin is flawed vs ANC).
  • Third, when the logo has been selected, the website's look should be changed in accordance. (Actually I really dislike the header and slider of the current site).

Meanwhile, I am willing to be a part of the PR team I can do some web design, logo and text.

I agree exactly with this approach. In fact, I was just going to suggest that a logo would be the easiest first step Smiley

Before starting this though, I think that is important that the developers agree to this, as it will ultimately be up to them to change the web site (I presume the devs own anoncoin.net...). Are the devs onboard?

It would be nice if we could pay the designer in ANC (or at least BTC), but I suspect designcrowd won't do this. This raises the question of how to pay.... Any ideas? (I was thinking ~500-1000 ANC would be about right).

As was mentioned earlier in this thread, I think that it is important that the logo represent: Anonymity, security, and freedom (from international central banking). As this coin's survival depends on zerocoin, it might not be a stupid idea to consider including portions of their logo into this one.

Finally, you can check out my Zerocoin and Anoncoin wiki entries here (any comments are welcome, the ANC one is not really done).

227  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: April 22, 2014, 01:28:26 PM

I would like to support this coin by matching any donations from the community up to $5,000 if they are able to fully implement and launch a working version of the Zerocoin protocol before June 1st.

This is a reward to the developers, and an incentive for them to keep working on the coin.

Why is my offer being ignored? Is it too low to ANC devs or PR even care replying to?

I am not trolling. If you don't reply within 24 hours I will withdraw the offer.
I would be willing to contribute ANC to such a fund (but not USD, my resources are limited). I too was awaiting a response from the developers indicating that they were interested. Perhaps they are too busy with coding, which would be great Smiley

Regardless, I am finding it very disturbing that JackOfAll is still listed as the PR guy, especially since he doesn't even respond to his emails... Do the devs realize this? They are losing out on harnessing all the community interest in this coin.
228  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][HP] HoneyPenny [anonymity and unlinkability] on: April 21, 2014, 10:38:46 PM
Will you release code that compiles on OSX? I am still waiting for both Bytecoin and Bitmonero to do so....

To be honest, you won't be taken seriously until you release binaries, osx source code, and a GUI.
229  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [BCN] Bytecoin (CPU-mining, true anonymity) on: April 21, 2014, 10:47:25 AM
I find it difficult to support a clone of Bytecoin that didn't even build a GUI wallet program to release it.
Anyone want to do it better?  PM me.

It will have a GUI wallet, probably sooner than another clone. However, good luck with your clone. Such is the nature of the altcoin clown show. Wink
Perhaps more important that a GUI is source code that compiles on OSX...

IRC might be helpful for a launch ..

Reschedule for later date?

IRC is good, yes.
Looks like there is no so much mac-only users here. We will start in few minutes.
As far as I see on my mac it isn't very easy to build this for mac: there is a lot of things to fix in code.

OK . . what should we expect? Are you going to update the OP, post at the end, new thread, or direct to a website?

I've updated an OP: sources are on git, binaries are on MEGA.
Height is 5, difficulty is 27908. This is a good start.
This is bullshit. Does not compile on OSX. Though I can fix the malloc error (and the following error), the errors get increasing complex afterwards.

Code:

cd build/release && cmake -D CMAKE_BUILD_TYPE=Release ../..

I personally think this is being rushed and for what reason? The name is iffy and doesnt sound like a coin someone would want to own regardless of what it has to offer, no schematics released, no website; all of which makes it seem like it has poor dev. Hell I would have fronted the money for a site if it was needed. We could have built a community to ensure the success of a fork, but I feel you may just want to be the first.
If you look at the BCN forums, you will see that ByteCoin will be having some form of announcement at 16:00. It seems probable that this announcement will lead to a re-launch of BCN under fair conditions, and that this coin here is being developed by one of the BCN devs who has a difference of opinion with the team.

Could thankful_for_today explain his role with BCN?

Also, I totally agree that bitmonero is a poor name that will negatively affect adoption, especially if there are two BCN forks launched at the same time.

232  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Official Anoncoin chat thread (including history) on: April 17, 2014, 07:02:03 PM
Dear developers:

Would it be possible to donate ANC to help fund PR/web-development/code-development/etc? If you were to put a donation address on the website, along with a description of what these funds would be used for in the blog, I am certain that I would not be the only person to pitch in.

There is going to be alot of competition among anonymous cryptocurrencies with the release of CryptoNote/ByteCoin(BCN)/Bitmonera etc. (and I don't include DRK...).

Donations would be great, but we should know where to spend the resources before accepting them.
Personally, I would use most of donations for the creation of "bounties", similar to what is done over at PPC:
http://www.peercointalk.org/index.php?board=8.0

You could start with the following:

1. A bounty for someone updating the text on the official web page to describe the characteristics (and history) of the coin, including a brief description of the I2P and Zerocoin implementations.

2. A bounty for setting up an official chat forum on anoncoin.net (with the closing of this and other forums).

3. Creation of a promotional video.

4. Bounties for completion of the “in planning/development” tasks listed on the web site.

5. A reward for the creation of a new coin logo (via some form of competition).

6. Adding ANC to the faucet, allowing newbies to experiment with zerocoin transactions.

7. Translation of the website into Chinese (and other languages).

Also, you could pay someone to respond to the emails sent to admin@anoncoin.net and jackofall@anoncoin.net, as well as other PR activities. Perhaps the financial backer of zerocoin already has this all under control, so please excuse me if I might seem a bit impatient.

Guys!
See what I have received just right now!

That's so strange and, to be honest, I'm a little bit scared by this.
My guess is that they are going to introduce a new fork, which will compete with the simultaneously released Bitmonero fork.

236  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN][?] A new coin based on CryptoNote technology (BCN fork) on: April 17, 2014, 01:02:05 PM
The mentality about this coin seems to be that because I never heard of it or seen it then it must be new.

The mentality is that since no one has presented any objective third party evidence that it isn't new, it might be.

Lack of evidence does not answer the question either way.

The wiki entries for CryptoNote and BtyeCoin were created on April 12 and 15

https://en.bitcoin.it/w/index.php?title=Bytecoin&action=history

You realize that BCN is, in effect, 80% premined ? It was not released on clearnet until about a week ago.

Looks like everything is ready.
Bitmonero will be launched in 24 hours => Launch time 17 April, 22:00

Could you let us know what Bitmonero means?

Also, will you have binaries for OS X that work at this time (After two hours of wasted time, I can't get the Bytecoin source to compile).

China need this coin, but we don't have enough for them.
It is not good to have fast rise.
Anoncoin is more then speculation.

ANC freedoms and secure transactions!

We need a china translation, and a china pool.

Ok

Given that there is little information available online as to how zerocoin actually works, and given that people are bound to look for this information after zerocoin is implemented in anoncoin, I've decided to update the zerocoin wikipedia page:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zerocoin

I don't fully understand the zero-knowledge proof for redeeming zerocoins, and the original paper is a bit opaque to a non-expert, so it would be great if there was someone who could clean up any mistakes I made...

Add to this post, The Anoncoin's developers have modified the zerocoin implementation in the Anoncoin

Yeah, I know, but I don't have the details Sad In any case, wikipedia has deleted the anoncoin page several times on the basis that it is not notable (which is true; there are no, or few, articles in reliable sources that discuss it). As soon as this gets picked up in the press, I'll be creating this page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Lunokhod/sandbox (feel free to modify it, it's only a sketch).
