I have no idea how I missed this ICO.
I've practically lived on this board for the last 3 years?
how long did this ICO last?
IOTA was announced late October, crowdsale started late November and lasted to late December. We were covered in all the crypto-sites, several of the crypto slacks, so not sure how you missed it either. We didn't have a marketing budget and we didn't want to hype it for months, so we couldn't pull a Ethereum or Augur, but several hundred participated, so I think you must've just been unlucky if you didn't catch it. The best way to acquire IOTA now is to either: 1. Offer some work, community members may put up a bounty or pay for tasks 2. Wait for it to come on exchanges after launch 3. Buy from someone (you should use trusted escrow) Yes, that was unfortunate. So it lasted 27 days? I think such an ambitious and revolutionary product should have had a far larger ICO in terms of length and awareness. It seems very alive on the main board now. I notice nothing else other than IOTA threads. The initial distribution of a token/coin I believe is core to it's acceptance later on. IMO, this is the backwards way to think about this. The people that are providing funds to companies might (should) start insisting that they work with DAOs that they are part of. This allows investors to retain leverage and power over their money. In ICOs the investors usually have little to no power after their investment and lead to a lot of situations where the investors get taken advantage of. Of course, DAO investing is also very risky, but it at least offers some tools to mitigate those risks.
Bottom line, we should soon see a day where companies that are willing to work with DAOs could obtain larger amounts of funds, and those who insist on doing their own ICO would be met with investor skepticism (even more so that currently) and might not be able to raise the kinds of funds they need.
That's where OP is going with this I believe. Interesting. |

One of the first steps to give this coin more credibility is to send the premine to a reputable escrow.
This alone will bring more value to the coin and project.
It will show that you are serious about truly developing the coin as opposed to just attempting a PnD.
The minute you do this it would be BETTER than not having a premine at all, because then you would have the credibility as if you had no premine, and at the same time, prove that you have resources to develop the coin. Because of these facts, it would hurt you if you did not do this, because if you were truly serious about doing everything possible to move this coin forward, you would do this right away.
People see premine and run because the premine is usually dumped. People take notice when there is no premine, or when a premine is in escrow because their investment is more secure with less risk.
So dev, let's see what side of the fence you are on. The significance of this decision can not be overstated.

I am just bringing this up because the coins in the past that have done this have had much more success because people know the dev really cares about the success of the coin, and it proves what their true intentions really are.
I like your idea. We can consider this. I would tend to think that the price would be higer if the premine was locked away and the threat of that massive of a dump lessened. It is some security for the project and so long as bits and pieces of the funds can be released to go towards aspects of the project it would be great. I had a feeling you were the real deal. This is great. With this kind of transparency, it will jumpstart this community and make it grow. What if 5% every 2 months is released, as long as the previous months coins that were released were used as promised. So the escrow will: 1. Check and see that the coins were used as planned 2. Check and make sure that 60 days have passed since the last release of 5% This is just an idea. I would like to hear what the dev and the rest of the community thinks |
