a lot of project were created based on ERC20 and they were not a small project, some of them raised a few millions on their ICO and i believe they won't let this happen.
if ETH is dead, they can no longer send their asset and their costumer will be mad at them.

Peoples have different opinion about seeing things, for you all of them are good project with a goood technology and team. But for some of us all of them are average in term of support, team and technology. The price is determined by the support, as long as they have a huge support and it keeps growing, the price will be increased as well.
technology means nothing if nobody is using it, so peoples are the most important thing for cryptocurrency to get another ATH or increasing its value.
(in the end of the day, they even won't be able reach their past ATH again if the market and peoples are acting this way).

It won't be long until someone/some project replace it, a lot of problem happened with that project or their system and even Vitalik himself did not do his best. It was like he was tired of it and want to try something new, the only reason why he did not step out of that project yet because of ETH supporter. I am expecting too much hope into hit after they created smart contract, yet it failed me..

Even if ETH gets regulated by the goverment or any cryptocurrencies get regulated , we still can not control it. Just look at those fiat, how many times it got pumped or dumped by them ? even because of that, some countries were facing a crisis. Manipulation is part of human, as long as you and them are human we can not avoid it.
beside manipulation, the reason why cryptocurrencies moved to the ground was due to fear and hesitation. a lot of thing happened with them when cryptocurrencies reached its peak a few months ago, losing their investment and even some of them were losing their house.

But sadly 2018 is not a year for Bitcoin or any cryptocurrencies to repeat its history again, did you remember when people said Bitcoin and other will get another momentum when Bitcoin conferences begin ? but in reality, it did not work well even the price went down from where it belongs at that time.

So far everything is fine, how about you start it from the scratch ? download a new wallet from github and download it(if you are already downloaded it, you can start it by deleting database folder), afterward sync it first before doing anything else.
if it is working, just wait until everything is done. You can recover your wallet by sending your wallet.dat from your old wallet into a new one.
you might use an old wallet before mainnet, that was why you got that error.

Did you even read the images ? they used ERC20 as their base for their project, why ? because it is very easy to create one and it is cost-effective compared to build up a new kind of project with a different/new algorithm.

If you are seeing it that way, you should have included NEO in your 'dangerous list' because both of them were used by people as a platform for creating a smart contract and running an ICO.
