Given your shitty investment history you probably should be avoiding securities. It cant hurt to simply hold BTC till you actually need it since you might be able to buy a lot more silver if the price shoots up much more.

Not sure what you are talking about but yes, throwing the money in the cash kitty is one of the ideas I was discussing with our financial advisor. i was looking for something a little more "active" though. Do you have any idea what a good investment might be?
603  Economy / Securities / Re: [BitFunder] TU.SILVER -- Request for Discussion on: March 11, 2013, 07:17:19 AM
I am pleased to present this week's Tu.SILVER report.

http://kongzi.ca/silver/TSR/20130310TSR.pdf

Relevant quote:

During the preparation of February’s report, our financial advisor commented on how difficult our books were to understand. I responded by selling all our investments and moving entirely into JAH on BitFunder. This was at a price for JAH between 6.5 and 9 bitcents. Right after I did this, ASICMINER started paying dividends and JAH exploded to over 30 bitcents a share. I could not believe our luck!

As a result of this, TU.SILVER has about 30 bitcoins available to be invested somewhere. Thus I put it to you, the investors. What should TU.SILVER do with the money we've earned? We could advertise. Maybe we should invest in something (ASICMINER?) or maybe we should pay a special dividend. I'm not sure at this point. Sales have dried up due to the extreme volatility in the price of BTC. So perhaps we should throw it in something stable and tied to BTC like BTC-BOND or LTC-ATF.B1?

Please share your ideas on what TU.SILVER can do with the money. Should we buy S.DICE? What would you do if you had an extra 30 bitcoins?

Buy more silver?   Cool

The danger in buying more silver is that sales have dried up right now, probably due to the extreme volatility in the BTC price. So it would be tying up the money without meaningfully expanding the fund. I'm not sure that's the wisest thing to do right now.

I'm thinking, if I want to attract investors to the fund in a down market I am going to want to provide sustainability and dividend. Or I could provide added security. I could make the move to the vault now, or I could advertise. I'm leaning towards advertising right now but will make a final decision later. I'm basically looking for input. I'm pretty close to just dumping it in LTC-GLOBAL  Cheesy or maybe, BTC-BOND, ATF.B1, etc.

What stops you from "Whoops I got robbed?"

just the 'whoops my reputation is shot'

Yeah that's unacceptable from the get-go. This isn't really a small community like it was last year. It's evolved and matured considerably. Please don't start a business like this unless you can guarantee the silver. Here's the solution I am planning to use for my own silver ETF, TU.SILVER:

606  Economy / Lending / Re: [50 btc] 100% secured business development loan on: March 11, 2013, 01:59:58 AM
oh 1% over 90 days? thats horrible

but what does secured mean? he secured with his own stash
It means that the only risk in this case is that Btcjam goes out of business / scams. 4% apr is good given the risk, but sitting on bitcoin has being more profitable (even considering the risk).

The problem is it's not horrible, it's good. "4% apr is good given the risk" -- that's the key. I remember 'someone' declined a job-secured 10% annual loan and counter-offered 400% because bitcoin, not one month ago. This person is destined to lose all their money pursuing such a policy.

Nobody knows what is going to happen with the BTC price and believing it will go up because it always goes up is foolish. If you have a LOT of BTC you would be wise to diversify it a little and this is a quick and easy way to short a few BTC without having to pay too many expenses. In fact, you're even earning interest.

Anyways the loan went thru so I will lock this and, well, we will see what happens in 3 months Smiley
607  Economy / Speculation / Re: Two simple charts. on: March 11, 2013, 01:45:48 AM
Does the "hype cycle" chart still apply if the technology really is a "new paradigm"? I hope the fact that that was my first question is not a bad sign...  Wink

This is the response I was looking for. My point here is that markets are participated in by people. You are investing fiat money in an asset. Mass market psychology applies here. There is no new paradigm. People who say "new paradigm" will be caught in the mania phase with their pants down and their fingers wrapped firmly around their bitcoins -- unwilling to sell at any price.

Take a look at the AAPL chart posted in this thread. It matches the hype cycle chart even better than bitcoin does. That person's wish "why can't we be more like AAPL" is a dangerous wish indeed Smiley
608  Economy / Securities / Re: Furthering the S.DICE / AM comparison on: March 11, 2013, 01:40:22 AM
As to 6...this is perhaps true, and if it is in fact true it is setting the stages for some very serious problems down the road - not with AM particularly, but in general and across the board. Free entreprise on a global scale may well be thwarted by a shared stereotypism where "they are bad" is well and satisfactorily proven to either side. I guess this is something of a sleeping dragon or somesuch.

Nahh, just your youthuful naivety and eurocentric bias showing. The dragon woke up in the 1980s FYI, when nobody was paying any attention.
609  Economy / Goods / Re: Physical Silver Ownership Storage Idea on: March 10, 2013, 04:57:39 PM
I have an idea.

If I have physical silver and you want to own it; but will let me hold it

Is anyone interested?

Almost like silver ETF, SLV

but actually Sprott physical because most of us should know the SLV doesn't have enough ounces for what shares they owe of supposed ounces

Obviously I'd post pictures etc.

An maybe this will just be an idea for another entrepreneur even one that can better accomodate (large physical supply, good security...)

I already run a business like this. Not saying don't start one yourself, just saying. If you're interested here are our last three weekly reports:

http://kongzi.ca/silver/20130224TSR.pdf
http://kongzi.ca/silver/TSR/20130303TSR.pdf
http://kongzi.ca/silver/TSR/20130310TSR.pdf

The main advantage you can offer your clients is geographic diversity. i.e. if you're doing this in the USA it probably won't be a very popular/useful business. Again not saying don't do it but... If you're doing this in asia (like I am) or in some odd European country, you would be a lot more successful. Maybe we could even do business together. I'd love to network and get another link in my supply chain ^^

The second major obstacle you will face is fees for storage. No one should trust you unless you can guarantee insurance/segregation of the silver. Unfortunately this costs money so anyone buying silver from you is guaranteed (long term) to lose ALL their money. This is the major problem with issues like GOLD/BTC-GOLD/LTC-SILVER as they currently exist. I've come up with a novel way to solve this problem with my own company TU.SILVER, but it's not easy at all. Even my financial oversight advisor (see below) has a hard time understanding what I am doing Smiley

Also a word of advice on the trust situation. I hired someone to look over our books and to go over our invoices and purchase orders and basically do our financial reports. This is key. No one should trust someone who is operating independantly for an operation like this. As John K. said, one of the main attractions of precious metals is that they have alloidial title. There are strong reasons to let someone else hold your silver for you, however, these reasons fall by the wayside if you cannot demonstrate impeccable trust.

Anyways I'll follow this, it looks like an interesting proposal, just be sure to cover all the details. You'll want to have a look at John Galt Asset Management's Bitcoin GOLD Trust Prospectus for starters, it's very detailed and educational if you're planning on starting a business like this.

611  Economy / Services / Re: Looking for people to store some of the forum's money on: March 10, 2013, 09:55:59 AM
I am holding too much money for the forum. This is contrary to the forum's otherwise decentralized structure. I'd like to get some extremely trustworthy people to hold smaller chunks of the forum's money (maybe 250-500 BTC per person).

- You probably need to have been active in the Bitcoin community for at least a year.
- You probably need a very high OTC rating.
- You need to have dealt with far more BTC at one time than what you'll be holding for the forum.
- The list of "treasurers" and how much money they're holding will be public.
- The contract will be quite complex (I haven't finished writing it yet), as this is the forum's money, not mine, so you'll have to know what "the forum" is and in exactly which circumstances you can release the money.
- Full reserve is not a requirement, but you will be responsible for returning the money within a few weeks of a legitimate request no matter what.

If you're interested, post here with how much you would charge for this service and what your reserve policy would be.

I suggest you diversify into other, similar assets with alloidial title like gold and silver. 5000 BTC is only going to be about 130 ounces of gold. That is relatively easy to secure physically. You probably don't need to split up the assets among multiple people. But for what it's worth I held over 5k BTC myself when I was running my GLBSE assets. I'm open to any ideas but I probably don't want to hold a large amount of BTC. Being honest it would probably be better if you hired an investment advisor disconnected with the community and pursued an alternative on your own. The only one you can trust is yourself, right?

614  Economy / Scam Accusations / Re: Red Flag Alert -- Where is Ian Bakewell? on: March 09, 2013, 04:40:29 AM
Pretty sure you misread the thread.  Read it again.

The BTCjam loan was due on the 5th. I didn't see anything regarding this on his thread. I'm just looking to see if there's any solid info on the BTCjam loan since he hasn't logged on since the 3rd.
615  Economy / Scam Accusations / Red Flag Alert -- Where is Ian Bakewell? on: March 09, 2013, 04:34:27 AM
Ian Bakewell hasn't been on the forums for a week, and is now days late on first payments of a 600btc loan from the lending forum, and a 300 BTC loan on BTCjam.

He also borrowed at least 30,000 shares of S.DICE from TradeFortress and possibly other securities and loans from other people.

I don't think Ian is a scammer (yet) so why am I posting this here? Because there's no where else to post it, he locked his loan thread and apparently hasn't logged on in a week anyways. I don't like the missed payments. Does anyone know what is going on?

I highly doubt he's run off as he's been very quick to identify himself of his own accord. I'm just looking to see if anyone has seen or heard from him since the 3rd, since he hasn't logged on since then.
616  Economy / Securities / Re: {Bakewell} Get an equitable stake in a transparent & growing mining company on: March 09, 2013, 04:26:31 AM
Ian I know this thread isn't regarding your loan but you locked your loan thread.

You're three days overdue on your BTCjam loan, and now one full day overdue on your promise to pay according to https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=146689.0.

I'll be honest I was suspicious due to the large amount of money and shares you had borrowed from the community. It looked like a cash out. The comments on BTCjam state that you intended to pay on the 8th (yesterday) but that time has come and gone.

Due to the large amount of money you've borrowed would you mind providing an update on this the next time you log in? Thanks.
617  Economy / Securities / Re: [BTCTC][[ASICMINER-PT]] - Public trading of ASICMINER shares on: March 08, 2013, 08:07:37 PM
The 1000 have sold.

Which means it now falls squarely into a gap in your revised contract which says:

"For under 1000 shares, the management fee shall be 3%.  For over 1000 shares, the management fee shall be 2%."

So what's the fee for exactly 1000?

Shit I can't have my dad review the code for this page. I will get another programmer to review it. I will let the forum know what they say, but I really only trust what my dad says.

"My dad is too busy to review the code". That's what did it for me. How about you guys at home?
620  Economy / Securities / Re: [TU.SILVER] Free Kookaburra Silver Coin! on: March 08, 2013, 02:38:14 PM
*Edit: I will place a 1 bitcoin bid from the TU.SILVER kitty (1Kitty8g4AMrU8QaLCntESmrvJNmz1QUGk) to Satoshidice. The number I roll will be divided by the number of shares of TU.SILVER, and the remainder will be used to choose the winner.

I don't want to spend any money from the kitty because I want the kitty to be a record of our spare cash, to build confidence. So I'm posting this from a wallet I control, as anyone can see this hasn't been decided yet by satoshidice so that's fine. I just need some provably random number (i.e. we don't know the result at the time this message is posted).
