1  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN] H2O Coin | DGW + Scrypt-N | MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE - FORK AT 98000 on: June 16, 2014, 04:12:45 PM
Unfortunately, H2O has been delisted from Bittrex.   Sad

We weren't able to talk to Richie to plead our cause and could even have a LTC pairing. It's the team's fault because we weren't able to be fast enough to provide the coins new features. We're working on them and the next phase is the donation fee implementation on which we had technical difficulties to implement but on our way to a solve the issues.

Holding your coins is the only advice I can give to you at the moment. I just hope we'll be able to provide you with new wallets soon which will finally set us back on tracks  Undecided

EDIT : That doesn't mean the the coin is dead, just that trading is more difficult now though there are still other available exchanges. We'll try to come back with new features quick in order to generate interest.

Hey, i need some help...
I made a transaction before updating the wallet and now it won't go away even after deleting everything but wallet.dat and reinstalling the wallet...
Import private key also doesn't solve the problem...
What can i do?
Can you got the IRC channel (#h2ocoin on Freenode) for the dev team to solve it ? Thanks.

Hello!
What with xhash.net?
Xhash chose to terminate H2O mining, unfortunately. I don't know why but that's how it is... You can mine on other pools without any problems though.

I posted on the old thread because many are in the dark and on the wrong chain.
Hopefully it will help.
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=494229.msg7259300#msg7259300
Thanks for that. I thought the message for the new thread would be more visible, it's more readable with your post.
3  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN] H2O Coin | DGW + Scrypt-N | MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE - FORK AT 98000 on: June 09, 2014, 01:18:18 AM
[...]
We need to ask binary at dedicated pool to fix the h2o pool.
This is the biggest pool out there and currently not giving very nice advertising and potentially no one is mining there because of the error below:

"For some reason, something failed to load. Your shares and hashrate are safe - don't worry!

To get this solved quickly, let the admin know either by chat in IRC or emailing by the support link on the left (chat is BEST)!

Payouts disabled, you will not receive any coins to your offline wallet for the time being
Blockupdate disabled, blocks and transactions confirmations are delayed
Findblocks disabled, new blocks will currently not show up in the frontend"
This pool was supposed to be updated with the new wallets, it's weird. We'll get on this and help them solve the problem. Thanks for warning us about that.

Good that things are being solved then.

Now we can focus on proper innovations then  Smiley

XFranz, if you pass in that thread, please update your wallet to version 8.7.2, as it seems you're on the wrong fork. Thanks.
6  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN] H2O Coin | DGW + Scrypt-N | MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE on: June 06, 2014, 10:35:13 PM
Fork happened but it seems that not everybody updated their wallets.
We need everybody to be on the right wallets to avoid forked and orphaned coins. Pools, first and foremost.
7  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [RE-ANN] H2O Coin | DGW + Scrypt-N | MANDATORY WALLET UPDATE on: June 06, 2014, 11:33:20 AM
Make it merge-mined. I can do this for you if you require - 0.2BTC
Thanks for the proposition. I'll talk about it to the dev team and will keep you updated.  Smiley

There are already at least 2 coins considering water.
Platorin, this is not a new coin, don't worry.
This coin has been created in march (old thread : https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=494229.0) but the owner (@ThisWeeksCoin) didn't have enough time any more to manage the coin because he had to take care of urgent problems IRL. The community then decided to take over the coin with his agreement in order to rebuild it. I created this thread in order to have the ability to edit the OP because of the fork that happened a few days ago.

There is a new management team and new dev team. We didn't change the logo, we updated it with a new color scheme which will the same for every elements of the coin and for its image to be more efficient. We have ideas which will soon to be implemented and we want to give back some life to the coin. We hope people will recognize the work that is done behind the scenes to bring it back and therefore will be assured of our legitimacy.

I can understand people disagreeing with the community trying to keep this coin alive. There are a few hundreds coins existing and there are more created each day. But we didn't choose the easy route (by creating a new X11-anon coin to surf the hype, for example), we are trying to rebuild an existing coin because we believe in its purpose. So I can only ask you all simply to give us at least some time to convince you before doubting us.

There is a new team, and we are bringing new features to the coin. This has been going on in the other thread but we needed a new one to be able to edit the OP.

H2O Coin (Community Takeover)

First of all, thanks to ThisWeeksCoin for giving birth to the idea of a coin aimed at water charities as access to water is still a problem in the world in 2014 and shouldn't objectively be.

Second, this thread is not a relaunch, it's just a new beginning, the premises of the coin stay the same but the management has changed and therefore we need a fresh thread to be able to communicate better with the supporters

In 2014, access to water shouldn't be a problem but it is because a big percent of (-us-) the world's population don't have clean water in their houses, in their villages, in their cities.

ThisWeeksCoin found that http://thewaterproject.org/ accepted Bitcoin(s) as donations and decided to help them. H2O will then focus on their organization and help them as much as we can.

Each month, some of our pools (official pool will contribute) all the fees it collects, it will go towards www.thewaterproject.org

In the long-term, we're aiming to find non-profit organizations and help them to bring clean water to the people who need it.

Be a part of the small percent who actually gives a damn about people's lives outside of the box.

11  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] H2O Coin |Yahoo!Finance & more| DGW + Scrypt-N - *DONATED 17.5BTC* on: June 04, 2014, 11:03:17 PM
Everybody come claim your bonuses from the Mining Marathon.
- 175K sent to Gatt13 after his 7 days of mining.

I am no means a coin developer, but I was thinking...  When the change to update wallets to DGW3 is done, could it possibly be looked at reducing total number of coins? (maybe not at DGW3 update but sometime in future update by someone).
If total number of coins now will be 2 billion to exist (if feel the coin will always remain undervalued/priced as there is just too many) I understand the original intent of 2 billion to be different/unique.. but the core values of the coin is what makes this unique already, a charity coin.  I was thinkng if coins were reduced by a factor of 25, so total # would be 80 mil not 2 billion (this will also help increase value and rarity of the coin).  I know alot of work would need to be put into doing something like this (and I do not have the coding/skills needed to even attempt this).  Figured I'd throw this out there and see what others also think.
Again thank you owlhooter for taking a look at this coin and helping to improve upon it  Smiley
The team also find the number of coins a little too much. Cutting the supply is in talks but not for the moment as we're focused on fixing the fork issue.

When it's done, the real rebuild plan will be on  Smiley

After some more inquiries, looks like you were right : this morning drewdrew (part of the team) who I talked to during the last hour found the blockchain being very slow. He didn't think of a problem until a few supporters reported the solo-mining bug. With the help of owlhooter we found the problem :

WHAT HAPPENED
 - there has been a temp fork this morning but the blockchain resynced well in later blocks.
 - the submitted blocks from solo miners were most likely to a pool with an outdated wallet and caused their blocks to disappear therefore their coins too. We hope that by fixing the issue, they will get them back.
 - we asked bittrex to stop the trade in order to fix the blockchain issue.

WHAT TO DO
 - do not make any transactions with H2O until we fix the issue, just in case ;
 - check your block height (hover the little tick on the bottom right of your wallet) and compare it to the one of the network here : http://cryptexplorer.com/chain/H2Ocoin ;
 - mine on pools until issue is solved because only solo miners were affected by the issue ;

WHAT WE'LL DO
 - owlhooter will help us from now on as our dev.
We hope his presence will not be temporary but he seems to be interested and found our project to be "ambitious"  Smiley
 - he will put a hard fork in the blockchain issue by implementing DarkGravityWave3 at a future block (not determined yet) in order to fix the issue because H2O is currently using the 1st version. It will be tested on the testnet to be sure then released.
 - if ok, we'll ask the solo miners, pools and everybody to upgrade their wallet (and backing their wallet.dat before doing so  Wink)
 - none of your coins will be lost because the fork will be on a future block.
13  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: [ANN] H2O Coin |Yahoo!Finance & more| DGW + Scrypt-N - *DONATED 17.5BTC* on: June 03, 2014, 02:45:54 PM
Supporters,

A bug with solo mining has been detected today. The problem is the following :
 - input address is null
 - output address are generated randomly
 - transaction id has a suffix at the end, for example "-000" which prevent them to be visible in the blockchain.
 - transactions in transactions history have a question mark

This is not a fork as pools are operating nicely and we recommend you to stop soloing if you're doing it a the moment and switch to pool mining until the issue is resolved. First hint of what could cause that would be a dysfunctional node in the network.

Some supporters have unfortunately lost some coins because of that. If it's your case, I engage myself to personally refund you the lost amount.

I discussed and investigated with Ghost about it and it doesn't seem to be a fork.
Block height on our wallet was right (93231 as I speak), same as the blockchain's.

Could you explain why you thought of a fork ? I'm not knowledgeable enough myself so maybe there are hints I didn't see.

I'm investigating your claim at the moment with the help of Ghost. I'll update the situation later.
Thanks for finding this possible issue.

I'm going to talk to a developer. He's going to help with the wallet.

Got some free time now.
Thanks a lot !
I've looked everywhere I could but I don't have the connects to find one...

Hey guys, we're alive even though I wish we were moving faster.  Undecided

The current obstacle is that after TWC's and the dev's departures, we are left without a dev. Brainstorming is done, the rebuild plan is set but we need a dev who would be able to patch things up. We're looking actively but we're not finding. We have Ghost in the team (he did the linux wallet) but he doesn't have much time unfortunately and would only be able to supervise, and Winevirus who was the dev is MIA and we can't contact him. Therefore, we are currently in the process of hiring a new dev. If anybody knows one, feel free to contact me, a reward will be given.

The current situation is a little frustrating because everything is set (the team has agreed about how to rebuild the coin) but we're only missing a dev to make things happen. And that's why I'm currently quiet because I don't want to make any announcement which would then only be wind.

By the way, don't forget to claim your bonus after the mining marathon, PM me with :
 - the total number of coins mined during the seven days
 - the total number of mining days
 - your average hashrate
 - and a screenshot.

Thanks for the support.

Following H2Ocoin's owner (too busy IRL) and dev (finished work) departures, a few supporters (me included) decided to keep the journey going by taking over the coin. There is plenty of work to do : nearly dead hashrate, value next to none, site not up to date, cadaverous reddit and so on... This alt's current state is bad and we have to roll up our sleeves because we want to rebuild it believing in this coin's purpose (as a charity one).

Finding the charity aspect slightly under-valued and the current "anon - x11" hype a little too much, we would like to rebuild this alt because there is a true potential in this segment. Many alts have foundations, donate to NGOs or create charitable events but I'd like a coin with a donation process to its core and not as a side event. I think the previous owner had a great idea with this coin but I believe he didn't fully went with his idea because there's more to be done, IMO.

Otherwise and to be more complete, there is another existing altcoin in the "water charity" segment which name is Clean Water Coin (WATER) which surfed the h2o's wave a few weeks after the PRE-ANN early march, but thanks to a more dedicated and conscientious owner is nowadays best known (better value, bigger community) and more solid than H2O.

I appreciate what they are doing because they overcame some setbacks which could have been bad for them but managed to get back really well and are now at cruising speed. On top of that, they have a good marketing image ! But to me, as H2O was the first on that segment I decided to support H2O (principles I guess  Tongue) and that's why I'm looking for one or few devs to get the coin back on tracks. I also need to state that there is no beef between the two camps and that we can coexist.

New community dev team has plenty of ideas and already has a plan to reorient H2O as a charity coin to its core and not just it being a gimmick. But none of us know how to code in c++ (well at least, not wallet, blockchain and security stuff) and that's why we need devs to complete our team.

What we wish is at least one dev which will be interested in the project first (details and plan by PM), able to code, compile and having knowledge and skills to implement algos and security protocols. We'll wish to build something long-term, therefore we'll need somebody who will be dedicated and who won't quit once paid (which happened already). I don't know the specifics and it's possible that I'm not accurate enough in my description of the job but wholly, we need somebody able to build a coin.  Wink
Obviously, the dev will be paid as the job is difficult (it will up to him to decide whether he will be paid in H2O or BTC).

About myself, I can code html, css and some php and I'm not bad in Cgraphic design and CAD but I have no knowledge in other CS langagues...
If needed, you can check my post history and see that I mostly posted in the H2O ANN and that I tried to push the coin towards the charity side above since early may when I started being a little worried about the coin's future (even if there had been a 17.5 BTC donation to thewaterproject which convinced me of the coin's potential). I'm not interested by creating a new coin to surf whatever hype and that's why we want to rebuild the coin instead of creating a new one.

If interested or more details needed (about me, the team, the pay, the alt's history or our plan), you can join me by PM where I could be able to give you more infos (which I don't want public atm obviously, competition we know that :p). You can also join the H2O IRC (#h2ocoin on Freenode) where you would be able to directly discuss with the team and introduce yourself.

Thanks a lot  Smiley

Merci beaucoup Smiley
