502  Other / Meta / Re: Cybersecurity Board - Hardware Wallets Save All Now - But How Long ? on: September 21, 2023, 02:36:36 AM
I tend to agree which could be the reason this board didn't exist.

Creating a sub-board dedicated to Cybersecurity in a Bitcoin community is a topic that warrants careful consideration. As a Global Moderator in a Spanish Hacking forum I can tell you that you are right that kind of sub-boards are filled with a lot of noobs, script kiddies and scammers.

A sub-board focused on Cybersecurity can provide valuable educational content for community members. It can help users understand the risks associated with Bitcoin and cryptocurrency and equip them with knowledge on how to protect their assets.

By offering discussions on vulnerabilities and hacking techniques, the sub-board can raise awareness about potential threats. This can empower users to take proactive steps to secure their investments and personal information.

AFAIK the equilibrium of the AIR in our atmosphere nitrogen and oxygen is very importan to preserve the weather and life in this plannet. When methane is released into the atmosphere, it can absorb and trap heat from the sun, contributing to the greenhouse effect and global warming. This can lead to various consequences

504  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Vanity Address Generator in Java on: September 20, 2023, 08:37:21 PM
what is the benchmarking process? How will I compare them?

In the case of my keyhunt tool you can select a specific range, so, if in you code you can do the same the idea should select the same range and check how many coincidences it found and how much time it takes.

Another way to make these benchmarks is just put them at random ranges and stop them after some 15 minutes or half an hour and compare how many addresses they found, this may not be fair or may be biased because Address prefixes are random and it's not predictable how often they may appear.

2. Suggest a better (if any) entropy source than Java's SecureRandom.

Well i think that actually SecureRandom must be enough validated by the community, some of us may remember some nasty bug in  SecureRandom that lead in some multiple bitcoin wallet hacks

Weaknesses in Java SecureRandom (e.g. Android bitcoin wallets)
Some SecureRandom Thoughts

If you aren't sure of using SecureRandom, I may suggest o try to use the RNG of the Guests OS, but that may complicate the code a little and also make it OS depend, that break the the Java Parading: Write once Run Anywhere

I like the OS Random Number Generators, but for Java I recomend stick on the Standar Class.

SecureRandom
Quote
This class provides a cryptographically strong random number generator (RNG).

if you want to do some benchmarking try to compare it againts the:

506  Economy / Economics / Re: If They Can Pay off their Debts, Why Don't They? on: September 20, 2023, 06:47:37 PM
well, i am only going to point to the opportunity Cost, Governments and often have competing priorities, such as investing in infrastructure, healthcare, education, and social programs. Paying off debt immediately would require diverting funds from these essential areas.
507  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin.org indefinitely forbidden from serving whitepaper and client to UK on: September 20, 2023, 04:20:57 PM
These two points you made here are not going to change that because people could already use a VPN or a mirror to get the whitepaper or just never read it (who said you need to also read the whitepaper when adopting bitcoin?!).

Yes I agree with you those just were some vague thougts.

Also i know that we don't need to read the paper to adopt bitcoin, but it is very interesting to read in any case (I strongly recomment read it)

Something that bothers me is the white paper has the website in the header.

It says clearly www.bitcoin.org

How the F. a stupid judge can ignore that?

Saludos!

510  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: How do you feel when you look at your first Bitcoin wallet? on: September 19, 2023, 11:23:45 PM
For me, it's never too late to start accumulating and holding onto Bitcoin because I believe in the long-term.

Agree with you it's never too late for it, I am also stacking every satoshi that I can.

I did not move much bitcoin before, my first wallet doesn't have many transactions but it is from 2011, almost 12 years ago, yes we missed the opportunity but there is no way to feel regret of that, it is sad but we can't change anything of that feeling on that way, then IMO is better to look at the future with better expectatives and begin informed about bitcoin and its technical topics will be good for all of us

So, keep stacking those sats and stay curious. The bitcoin game is still young, and who knows what's coming next

We have still 29 halvings to walk for a while

How to make karma strike back CSW?  Huh

It is a difficult topic, the news is also unbelieve to read. But I think that seeking for karma it's not a good way, i mean if karma would act, it should do that alone no?

One option may be to locate friends or users there and encourage them to distribute the bitcoin wallpaper, but that may also have legal issues against them no?

A way to win this should be made in a technical way, I don't know how, let's ask the real satoshi to sign a text message saying that CSW is a liar… o wait there is a message already signed by old miners no?

Welcome to the forum! It's great to hear about your journey into the world of cryptocurrency. Many of us have had similar experiences of initial skepticism, given the prevalence of fraudulent schemes out there. It's commendable that you took the time to research and educate yourself on the topic through platforms like YouTube and Telegram channels.

I'm glad you decided to join this forum. It's a fantastic place to exchange knowledge, share experiences, and continue learning about cryptocurrency. If you ever have questions or want to discuss specific aspects of crypto, feel free to ask. I'm here to help and learn together!

If there is some recomendation to start learning something is this next link: Chapter 4. Keys, Addresses, Wallets

Rember not your keys not your coins
513  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: They sent me btc to my wallet they were available and then they disappeared! on: September 19, 2023, 04:51:49 PM
OP might be a bit mixed up here. When you get money on Binance, they give you an address (an address that bianance control, rember not your keys not your coins). But then, Binance moves that money to another Binance address (Binance Hot wallet). Don't worry, your Binance account should still have that money, even though if you check that address on some explorer, it'll look empty.

At least that may confuse to some new users like him
514  Economy / Economics / Re: X (formerly Twitter) may be telling people like me to exit the platform on: September 19, 2023, 04:04:38 PM
I've been on Twitter since way back in April 2011, and I've gotta say, I've had a good time there. I love the stuff I find, and it's where I stay updated on what's happening. But the latest news about them thinking of charging a monthly fee has me feeling pretty bummed.

Twitter is like my main squeeze in the social media world. I mean, aside from some forums and Telegram, it's the place I hang out online. I've met friends, laughed at memes, and had some cool conversations.

But here's the thing – if Twitter starts asking for cash to use it, I might have to hit the eject button. I get they need to make money, but it could mess up what's great about Twitter. It's open to everyone, and that's awesome. Charging money might shut some people out, and that's not cool.

So, if they really go through with this fee thing, I'll have some thinking to do. I mean, I love Twitter, but I also love not spending extra money on social media. We'll see how it goes, but I really hope they don't push me to say goodbye to my Twitter crew.

516  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: == Bitcoin challenge transaction: ~1000 BTC total bounty to solvers! ==UPDATED== on: September 17, 2023, 02:22:33 PM
and i wonder how is that possible without knowing the private key from the beginning ??

All those address can be derived from the RMD hash of the address, example:

Address 13zb1hQbWVsc2S7ZTZnP2G4undNNpdh5so decoded in to Hexadecimal is:

0020d45a6a762535700ce9e0b216e31994335db8a5ee6612b2

But first byte for btc address is alway 00 and last 4 bytes are te checksum: ee6612b2

So the Real hash160 of the address 20d45a6a762535700ce9e0b216e31994335db8a5

Example with Dogecoin is almost the same, address D88gYxMEoumtZSJAC9mwa2EWfm6g3uocon

Decodes is 1e20d45a6a762535700ce9e0b216e31994335db8a50d861875

1e is the prefix for Doge, the checksum are the last 4 bytes: 0d861875

So the Real hash160 of the address 20d45a6a762535700ce9e0b216e31994335db8a5

So for almost all altcoin you only need the original rmd160 hash check the next image:

I recommend you to read Chapter 4. Keys, Addresses, Wallets

517  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin puzzle transaction ~32 BTC prize to who solves it on: September 16, 2023, 10:58:30 PM
Now I can solve puzzle 65 without the public key in just a few seconds if you have the right factors in place

Hi, nice code Smiley The prime numbers approach is a good idea, I also try it some time ago, but it only works as you said if you have the right factors if no then the brute force approach of the prime numbers is also some exhaustive, we can try some small and common factors but those don't provide much speed, but if the prime factors aren't common then the probabilities of some prime number is factor of our key are very low probabilities.

IMHO this prime number approach is a nice as proof of concept but with some low success
518  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: My Bitcoin transaction has been stuck in the mempool for two weeks please help! on: September 15, 2023, 11:52:35 PM
Your tx isn't also flagged by RBF, so you cannot bump the fee

That is not quite right, thereis still the option of FullRBF, but yes that depends of the software used to do the transacction.

Bitcoin Core 24.0 Will Enable Full-RBF — The End Of Unconfirmed Transactions?

Example:

519  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Ouch, today someone made a transaction with over $500k fee. on: September 15, 2023, 11:39:29 PM
It does bring an interesting issue for a small pool.

I wonder if this kind of actions would bring or open something like a "precedent" for other situations

It is not the first time that a return of this type has been done, but the media coverage that this particular case has captured the attention of the financial, technological and general bitcoin community.

The worry is that if we allow this now, it might lead to more situations like it in the future. Think about a situation where someone comes with arguments like Craig Wright did againts bitcoin developers, saying that miners should be responsible for users losses or helping them to recover their lost wallets...

Just image that.  Shocked

My recommendation to miners would be not to return anything to people/corporations they need learn from their mistakes.

Regards!
520  Other / Meta / Re: Is the first Merit the hardest Merit to get? on: September 15, 2023, 11:14:05 PM
To be honest i don't think that the first merit is difccult to get, but that depends of each person and the quallity of the topics that the publish or then thing that they share.

My get my first merit when i publish a message sharing my open source project, and that was my message number 6, previous 5 messages before it don't get any merit

However, I must emphasize that achieving merit constanly depends on the relevance and value of the topics you engage with or the content you share. It's essential to focus on contributing meaningfully to the forum, and over time, these merits will naturally come your way.
