FYI

All statistics are working again.
1062  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Coinotron - coins from SolidCoin 1.0 on: October 15, 2011, 11:57:42 AM
FYI

We've successfully recovered all pool's coins from old solidcoin 1 wallet and transfered them tu current SC2 wallet.
Those coins have been added to users SC balances.
In order to limit possible payouts to non-existing solidcoin 1 addresses we also changed SC payout threshold to 0.
Please check if your SC payout address is correct (generated by SolidCoin 2.0 client) before you change send threshold value.

Bitcoin round appears to be stuck at 125h10m, and no statistics for the top bitcoin miners.

Yesterday I had to disable statistics calculation due to performance issues caused by high load in SolidCoin 2 sub-pool. Currently only lists of solved blocks are being refreshed. Best miners and main pool stats are not refreshed.
I hope to re-enable those stats soon.

Interesting, somewhat hidden Wink

I'm planning to lower this threshold for BTC to 0.1 Smiley

Are the auto payouts via send threshold for BTC broken ?

No they are working fine.
If you have problems please check if payout address is valid and payout threshold > 0.5 BTC

No where on the website does it state that the threshold has to be > 0.5, might want to fix that.

It is stated on Help page, in section Payments.

Any plans for a Geist Geld option?
Honestly I'm afraid of these 1-2 sec rounds. This will generate a lot of network traffic that may stress my VPS server too much Smiley
Instead I'm considering Tenebrix. Solidcoins 2.0 will be available as soon as it is restarted.

I like the free market approach to all these forks as opposed to DoucheExpress' dictatorial approach... So here is an idea for the people who want GG in coinotron:

Try a donation/inverse-bounty payable in any of the currencies you work with such that when whatever $$ amount is reached to be able to upgrade your server big enough to support the extra load you will upgrade and add it?

If GG has enough supporters it shouldn't take too long to drum up the cash to upgrade the server(s) I would imagine?  Plus you might get some donations from other chains hoping to monopolize on the shared increased performance to them as well?

It may not be feasible but if so this could be a good idea for you.

That is very good idea. And it looks feasible, although there will be some work to perform. If it works, I will send you a bounty Smiley

So it's not really proportional, or is it? (Can you explain a bit more about your reward system?)

Here you have exact formula :

Share Score = exp ( C * time span from beginning of the round to share delivery time / round duration )

Payout = 50 * sum( miner’s share scores ) / sum( all miners share scores )

For C = 0 we have Share Score = 1 for each delivered share i.e system is proportional.
When we raise C value, system becomes similar to Slush’s method. Most precious are shares delivered at the end of the round.

Currently we use C = 0 – pool is small, round duration is measured in days.
But when we observe increase of pool-hoopers activity we will set this value to about 6.

How has this changed, if at all, for the BTC side ?

It didn't change for BTC.

The way to take down any network is to attack its hubs and Coinotron is one of those hubs. I'm working on acquiring some botnet time now as we speak and I can assure you, it is going to suck to be Coinotron when this comes online.

Come on, BTX.  Attack whatever you want. I can even prepare for you a list of potential new targets. You must have something to attack when you are done with Coinotron and other pools supporting SC 2. You work so hard. I feel obliged to lighten your load.
I propose that you move your activity to real world. For starters attack something small and harmless like fly or ant. If you succeed we will move to more demanding targets: mice, rats, frogs. And so on.

Coinotron is the fly or the ant .....

Now keep in mind, you invited it.

BEX, as I said: attack, bite, assault, scratch etc. Do your best Smiley hehe

I guess the "profit" calculation for i0coin is not valid anymore, because there is no longer an exchange for i0coins. Cry
You are right. Doublec shutted down exchange but API is still working Smiley
I didn't check this while disabling auto-worker for ixc and i0c.

Tried with +15 & after save it shows 15 only. Is it taking +15 as 15?
Tried with +5 & it changes back to 10. seems minimum value is 10. is it?

Currently it doesn't accept character "+". I can't save neither +15 nor +5. But 15 and 5 are saved without problem.
Yes, +15 is displayed as 15. I will try to change display format, +15 looks better Smiley

2011-09-28 New enhanced version of to auto-worker.

We've added possibility to set handicap for each coin. It affects algorithm of selection of most profitable coin. It can be used together with auto-worker. It works just like handicap in soccer betting.
If you prefer some coin over others you can set handicap to positive value. This coin will be selected for mining even if its profitability is below 1.0.
If you set negative value then coin will be selected only when its profitability is much higher than profitability of other coins.

Let's see how it works. Let's assume that we are interested only in BTC or I0C mining and BTC profitability is equal 1.

Example 1.
User wants to mine i0coins even if their profitability is below 1. He sets I0C handicap to +15%. Worker will be switched to I0C at I0C profitability = 0.87 ( 1/(1 + 15%) ). Below 0.87, worker will mine BTC.

Example 2.
User wants to mine i0coins only if they are significantly more valuable than BTC. He sets I0C handicap to -20%. Worker will be switched to I0C at I0C profitability = 1.25 ( 1/(1 - 20%) ). Below 1.25, worker will mine BTC.

Is there an ETA on the JSON API?

Atm no, there isn't. I'm working on pool improvements and integration with Solidcoin 2.0
1078  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Why does auto-mining in Coinotron is more profitable than mining only BTC on: September 27, 2011, 08:11:22 AM
As I understand it, Coinotron's BTC mining uses a proportional payout method, so is vulnerable to pool hoppers, especially since the "Profit/BTC" figure used by the auto miner isn't adjusted to match the expected earnings under a proportional system (ie much higher while the shares are low, and terrible when the shares are really high).

Correct. There is some "classic" pool hopping in BTC part but it really doesn't matter much because when more profitable coin shows up almost 2/3 of btc miners are switching to this new coin. So it’s a kind of coin hopping Smiley
I didn't observe pool hopping in alternative parts of pool. Maybe because of very short round times.

This means a user who blindly used the "auto" miner would essentially have some of their profits taken by the pool hoppers, on average. Make sense? It would work much better with a PPS* or even PPLNS system that has the same expected payment per share no matter when it's submitted.

I agree that PPS* , PPLNS are more fair but BTC part in our pool is way too small to introduce PPS without risking a lot of our own coins. And regarding alternative coins – almost non hopping observed.

All that said, using Coinotron is fun! You don't even need to install the client applications for i0coin etc to mine for them - you can just get a deposit address from an exchange to get the payment sent to (just be VERY careful to prevent 2 payments to be sent to an address that is only set up to accept 1).

I’m glad to hear that!
Auto was made mainly for fun. And for profit of course. Hmm, and for fun Smiley
But seriously soon we introduce even better auto worker. You will be able to set handicap over BTC. It should smooth very rapid movements to more profitable coin.

The minimum of 0.5BTC before you can get a BTC payout is way too high though. Most pools have a minimum of 0.01BTC.
It will be changed. Technically change is trivial, but before I’ll do it I must inform all users who have balance < 0.5. They may have btc addresses which expired like those in Bitparking.

Can you make your search case insensitive?

First link works fine. In second I changed last 'e' -> 'E' and your explorer can't find block.

http://blockexplorer.sytes.net/block/000000000005eb3ca6082db4d590cf961dd4ed1ece2c1c1303d2305ca92b027e

Do both blocks actually exist?  If the second does not, it's logical that it won't find it.

No only first block exists. Second one is simply first one with last character 'e' changed to 'E'. It was an example.
Anyway now I'm converting all links to blocks in your explorer to lower case.

Aren't all Bitcoin address types case sensitive?

That was link to block hash, not address. Hashes are written as hexadecimal thus may be treated as case insensitive.
